I’m a wheelchair user. We’re notoriously rough on our bearings especially since I mess with some wcmx ground work. Basically street skating but for wheelchairs. I also refuse to stay inside during winter on snow covered and salted roads so my bearings completely seize every couple months. I just got myself some new spacers and metal free ceramic and nylon ABCE 11 bearings for help with shock absorption and eliminating the possibility for rust for spring. I’ve never had a smother ride but I change bearing type based on time of year too.
Thanks man, that was really helpful for this old pair of skates I found at goodwill. I thought I had to pay ridiculous prices for new bearings, but ended up the old ones I have work fine when cleaned. I didn't have to purchase tools, so using stuff around the house is very practical for casual skaters who don't feel like buying a tool for their bearings. Thanks again.
Just saw a Short of someone using an ultrasonic cleaning machine to clean their bearings. I've had an ultrasonic cleaner for years but never thought of putting my bearings in it. Game changer.
My dog pulls me on my long board and my wheel barrings take a tun of abuse riding over 20km an hr on badly maintain sidewalks. Great video for cleaning! It made a massive difference and my dog definitely appreciates the smooth ride.
Hi there ! Useful video thanks ! But some important safety info missing : I think the candle is a bit dangerous and unnecessary. Most products you would use to clean bearings are highly flammable (alcohol, acetone, wd40...). Also when you say dump the liquid out, one should check if the chemical or solvent they’re using is safe to be discarded down the drain or in nature. Acetone can melt some plastics so if you have plastic pipes it’s going to damage your installation + it’s terrible for nature. Chemicals and solvents should be discarded to a hazardous waste facility. ;)
Candles are always necessary. If you think one candle and alcohol are dangerous, you shouldn't meet me on saturday nights. Good point though with the handling of hazardous materials!
This was such a wonderful video. I love how hysterical Karli is. 🤣 I can't wait for when I need to clean my bearings, this will be my go to tutorial to watch! Thank you! 🙌🏽💞🛼🦋
I applied for sonic as my first job because I loved to skate, thought it was the coolest place to work! I got "sonic" skates back when I was 16, I'm now 27! I still skates on the same wheels...I've never cleaned them 😕 I've always just kept riding. I definitely have a lot of learning to do. My elbow scars understand now lol 😆
I have the bearings with the metal shields and i have actually taken those shields off to clean the bearings on multiple occasions. It's difficult and I've bent them a couple times but I was able to bend them back and get them back on
whenever you feel like your wheels are not turning or making weird sounds is generally a good indicator. The time will depend on how often you skate and what terrain you are skating on!
I use a brass punch, 1/4" will work, about 5" or so long, place wheel outer side down on bench, put brass through hole at a slight angle to engage center race of bearing and tap out with hammer, move punch from one side to the other so bearing comes out straight. Once one bearing is removed use a 1/2" punch and tap other bearing out, you'll have to place wheel on top of a block of wood with a hole larger than bearing so it pushes out otherwise you'll just be hitting your work bench. To clean bearings I use CFC plastic safe brake or carb cleaner, then blow out with compressed air. I use Super Lube synthetic oil to lube the bearings back up. A drill press with correct size brass rod works great for pressing bearings back into wheel, never push on bearing retainer.
I just got a pair of Lollies and skated at the park twice (I live near desert in AZ) and noticed the second time I felt like I was moving slower and it took more work. After watching this video I thought that maybe I need to clean the bearings of sand and dirt but my AZ skate community is saying that I should only need to clean the bearings once every 6-8 months. What do you think?
Typically, your bearings should last longer without needing to be cleaned. It is possible to dirty them up in a single session if you skated over a ton of sand/dirt, water or even walking through grass. A good way to know is by spinning each wheel individually and seeing how they spin and sound. It could even be that your wheels are too tight? I hope this helps. Please reach out to our customer service if you need more assistance! :) cs@moxirollerskates.com
You are the best! Thank you for the tutorial. Do you ever use spacers between the bearings on the axle and speed washers on the inside and outside against the truck and nyloc nut? Too much weight for the street? Just a little question. Also, I'll love the hairstyle and fashion you look like Farrah Faucett ( only you're prettier and a better skater ) great !! I ruined a set of bearings skating Vail pass in Colorado on the"11 Mile* bike path I won't bore you with the mundane details However, a loose moose with attitude, a bridge and Clear Creek river and 11000ft altitude. I came here to figure out how to use a bearing puller/pusher and she shows me I don't even need one lol. But thag rubber bit came out of one of my bearings I tried pushing it back but it didn't seems to work. Maybe I gotta fully Uninstaller them. I'm actually getting new wheels and bearings soon but I was reading a comment saying to add a washer and spacers on the wheel, to skate even faster. So I wonder would any washer do or does it have to be skate specific and what exactly is a "spacer"
First coment!!! 💜 Love moxies, please restock the Jack boot I want a purple one!!! Is it possible to order in your webb a jack with a metal plate??? Thanks 💜💜💜💜
QUESTION-- I had heard it recommended to clean the factory grease from the bearings and replace with speed cream. Should you do that right off the bat???? My bearing on brand new skates don't roll more than 3 seconds. I noticed you didn't have spacers are they necessary on quads??? Powerdyne makes a good tool for the wheels and trucks also.
What size socket do we need for Lolly's? I just bought Fundae wheels! But the Y4 tool has been sold out for so long!I ordered the universal tool but not sure that will work.
@@moxiskates universal tool works! def will get a socket wrench or the Y3/Y4 eventually, cause the uni is plastic so don't want to over-use it. it's absolutely a must-have tho and so glad I have it :) :)
Hello I’m a brand new skater and I wanted to loosen my wheel … during the process I used to much pressure and it looks like my bearing was pushed in to 😓. My wheel spin and it’s not loose when I shake the boot but there is a noise when I spin the wheel. Should I replace the bearing? Or is okay to ride with? I only got my skate a week ago 😓 Please help I’m lost on what to do now.
So I roller-skated in the pouring rain, and the next day my roller skate couldn't even roll lol. The experience itself was soo "emotionally freeing" buut it's not something I'll be repeating anytime soon lmao
Oh no bummer :( Rain can damage your bearings pretty bad, If you do get caught skating in the rain just be sure to air them out after to help prevent rusting. We hope you get rolling again soon!
I was trying to clean my moto deluxe bearings and removed the inside ring, thinking it was a cap but it was holding all the bearings inside and they spilled out but I can’t seem to put them back in. Any tips or tutorials anybody knows on how to put them back together or is a new set of bearings the best bet?
Great point! Alcohol can damage some plastics but not all, as long as you do not soak them for a long period of time they will be okay to clean typically until it's time for new bearings.
I just got some moxi wheels, they jooked me cause I ordered the wide ones and they dumped narrow on me. I just put new bearings in and it only took about 50 feet and they unstiffened. These juicy wheels are smoother quieter and faster on these rural streets I skate alone.
@@moxiskates with the bearings from the gummies, i couldn't open them up (take the face plate off) and i forgot to order new bearings - so i just cleaned them with a micro-fibre cloth and they spin perfectly. Why is every bearing cleaning video using a container to clean the bearings thats just a dirt soup bath Your a girl do you take a bath to get clean like stewing in dirt or do you take a shower and let the dirt wash down the drain? Go to the automotive section at the store you get car oil from, get some break creaner in a spray can it will dissolve all oils and blast the dirt out, dry's in seconds with no residue. Go ahead, try it, you will not go back, I guarantee it
Keep in mind, Spraying WD40 will remove the old grease, but it won't clean your bearings, and it won't regrase them afterwards. Filling your bearings with WD40 and skating them without regreasing will result in destroyed bearings.
Was this video helpful? What other kind of videos would you like to see us make?

Thanks for the video! That was great information!
Now do the other 8 bearings!
You were amazing I now feel confident with changing mine. And youre funny.
Is it good to take the shields off of both sides of the bearing?
If you want to be super thorough you can, but you don't have to!
Do all new skates come with 16 bearings?
Silly question but curious.
I have the bearings with the metal shields and i have actually taken those shields off to clean the bearings on multiple occasions. It's difficult and I've bent them a couple times but I was able to bend them back and get them back on
How often should i clean the bearings?
is there a way to lube the bearings that don’t have a shield after i let them soak in alcohol??
Is bearing lube necessary?
If you clean the lube off that's already there, then yes. If you run a bearing dry it'll wear much quicker and be prone to corrosion.
Karli is the cutest
How often should we do this? Especially for outdoor skating? Plz

Hoe often do you change bearings?
