It is a little refreshing to see people who own their decisions and obviously have trouble discussing all this stuff publicly; I think their situation and attitudes towards their financial situation resonates more with me than the typical "oh-I-spent-that-because-I-deserve-it" people who come on here.
I was thinking the same!!! Like yeah they have debt and the car purchase was not smart but I really appreciate their approach to this whole situation and I am learning a lot so I’m grateful they came on 🎉❤
Men are supposed to vet their wife's better BEFORE marriage. That wasn't the first thing she's done against this man's advice. Also. Don't be a doormat like this fella.
it sounds like it was a vehicle for him to drive, she probably thought she was doing the right thing. i have an agreement with my wife in that when we don’t agree with a decision neither of us don’t do anything.
After watching more recent videos where the person is arguing through the whole episode, this couple was so refreshing to watch - minimal explanations, no excuses, receptive to criticism. I love these two and really hope they are in a better place now
@arcticredpanda4598 I'm sure that's a problem for some people....but when you're doing nothing but arguing the entire show it doesn't seem like much progress is made.
I appreciate Fernando's honesty when he says "I was not managing my finances correctly". He didn't put the blame on anyone but himself. That to me is the mark of an honest and humble person.
I definitely was there for the first few years of my career. Got my shit together, learned to look at my money, budget and every raise I got or negotiated I put 66-100% to savings. Never more than 33% to lifestyle creep. I'm able to save 50% of what I make every month now and don't feel like I'm sacrificing anything in my life. Sleeping sound at night.
$1,149 monthly car payment for 6 years at 16% interest. Holy shit. The fact that a bank would even approve a loan like that is wild to me. She must have put zero money down and financed the entire cost of the vehicle. Talk about screwing your entire financial future with just one swift stroke of a pen.
I just love the husband. So humble, makes almost no excuses, and is able to take a jab from Caleb like it's no big deal while still being receptive to the criticism
@@creandomidulcehogar Agree he looks pretty humble. But its the wife that scares me, she comes off soft spoken but you can tell she makes idiotic mistakes. Too may at their (our age) Most of them are common sense, like stop already. that car payment? really. then the whole "we were moving" crap. theres def deeper issues but ,Maybe she just needs a good ****ing lol. props to them on going on though.
The husband is also for sure holding back. She is full of crap and he won’t say anything. All that side hustle and applying for jobs stuff was probably half BS.
He’s humble but he needs to grow an pair. Your wife shouldn’t get a car behind your back. That alone shows who wears the pants in the household. she also quit her job. She’s also lying about finding jobs.
I REALLY want to see a follow up for this couple. I want to see them succeed so badly. I am just starting my journey with only $2,000 of debt and I felt like I was drowning before watching this. I feel like I can breathe now after seeing how much work they are going to have to put into digging themselves out of the hole that they are in. I appreciate SO much that they shared their struggles here. I understand how easy it is to just give up and let debt go to collections. This has motivated me to double down on my own budget and get things done. Thank you.
That’s fantastic! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 You’ll get out of that in no time. My husband and I got out of debt a few years ago and let me tell you.. not having any debt is the best feeling. We use one credit card for everything and pay it off every month. We even pay all the bills we can on that card so that we can get 2% back on as much as possible. There are even some purchases that give us 3% back. We end up getting a few thousand dollars back every year and pay zero interest because we never carry a balance over to the next month. If you’re good with using credit cards and not over-spending, find yourself one that gets cash back (travel points if you’d rather do that). Just make sure you’re not carrying a balance from one month to the next so that you don’t ever have to pay interest. You’re already in a much better position than most people. Congratulations on that. And I know I’m just a stranger on the internet, but I’m proud of you for recognizing your situation for what it is before it got out of hand and for working towards fixing it. This random middle aged lady will be rooting for you! 🙌🏽

I started watching Caleb back in April and got a second job at Costco on top of my full time job and have paid off my 10k in debt (two private student loans, two credit cards and some miscellaneous debts)! I’ve also been able to build up my emergency fund to 4,500 and now focusing on my IRA and federal student loans.. it’s not easy working nearly 80 hours a week BUT it’s temporary and so damn rewarding! Thanks so much, Caleb!
Fernando deserves so much praise after this audit. Abby took most of the responsibility for all the bs spending Caleb was pointing out and on top of that the budget going forward completely revolves around him being able to keep his high paying job for the next 3+ years even after they expressed they’re on their last legs with all the moving that comes with it. Their entire household is and has been on his shoulders and while it is very admirable of Abby to touch on her mental health and therapy, I feel Fernando deserves so much more respect and praise in this comment section.

My boyfriend called while I was watching this to ask if he could take me out to dinner for our anniversary tonight… I said “do you have money to do this or will it be on your credit card because I don’t want to go out to eat if we can’t afford it right now.” He said yes he has the money for dinner and for getting gas to come get me and take me out so it’s not on credit and then HE THANKED ME FOR ASKING AND BEING CONSIDERATE ENOUGH TO CARE ABOUT HIS FINANCES. Thanks Caleb and everyone who goes on the audits for training my brain to think like this so I won’t end up like my parents 😊 Update: 7 months later & we are engaged now☺️
This is something that I did to my parents years ago. I don't really enjoy getting gifts but I know when it's my parents a lot of times they put you on credit card that I know they probably can't afford. Durban times have told them to return a gift because I know they put on a credit card
@@Rudy1150 If we believe her income estimate the $1100 BMW payment was her signing over 20% of her income away for 7 years. His truck payment was on the very high end of reasonable, but was pretty close to the 8% that advisors give, though at a longer term than recommended. So people are more aghast at her car payment because it was almost triple the recommended income percentage for over double the recommended term while his is about at the max recommended income percentage for just under double the recommended term. Are they both bad? Yes! But his is a reasonable percentage of his income. Hers is insane in every way.
That is the silver lining, yes there will be a loss on selling the car (maybe not too bad in this used car market), but man, having an "ok" car and taking that loss has got to be better than a $1k+ payment for 6 years. No car is worth that kind of financial strain.
I hope she realizes the toll she’s putting on her marriage and her husband. She said proudly that she had no credit card debt only to find out most of debts was in collections. Buys a car worth more than her salary makes tons of unnecessary purchases and then for some “unknown” reason gets fired
Saying proudly she has no credit card debt only for Caleb to find out they’ve all gone to collections was 😂. She has bad energy and seems extremely cocky. I hope the best for her husband. He’s being taken advantage of.
I wouldn’t assume too much. I’m a contractor precisely because these big companies don’t give two 💩s about you, and I’ve witnessed 3 layoffs in the last 11 years. People who had worked there for years and decades were let go just because the company wanted to save on real estate cost and consolidate offices, or just because the new leadership didn’t want to follow in the same direction as what’s been happening. Not all companies offer severance pay, btw, that’s something you negotiate going in. So don’t be shy about having these conversations when HR calls you with a job offer after the interview.
There is a lot that has hurt me mentally, but what has hurt the most is my financial choices. It is a learning experience and we are rolling with the punches. Stay tuned for the progress episode 😉

@@LaSombraaok bro tbf the student loans aren't fully stupid debt. She began the MBA journey when she had a good job and wanted to advance in that path. A LOT of people are discouraged by society to take on loads of debt for education, so she should be forgiven for that part. The BMW does seem pretty stupid, esp since she got while he was at work, but she's owning up to her mistakes now and hopefully they have a great future
I had a credit card in 1972 and charged xmas on it that year. It took 6 months to pay it off. My husband said, no more credit cards and we haven't had one since then. I use a debit card when I need too but no more credit. We have a hugh emergency fund and a half of a million dollars in our investments for retirement. We won't be dying on the walmart floor. All of our properties and 3 farms are paid for. We were the poorest people among our friends but it all worked out in our favor. I really enjoy Caleb!
If my wife went out and bought a 60k bmw at 16% interest behind my back, we'd either have a lot of counseling ahead of us or a trip to the divorce lawyer. That is not ok
It would be a serious discussion for sure. Sounds like they had that conversation though, based on her remorseful tone and willingness to sell it if it would help them in the long run.
I’ve heard it said “personal storage businesses are monuments tot he death of the American dream.” and this is a perfect example. People living in debt and small apartments wishing they had a garage or basement to keep expensive toys which they never actually get to use…
It's so crazy, people do this all the time. My parents had a storage unit they were paying 400 a month for and everything in there was worthless. They had it for years!!!!
I want to reassure this couple that these episodes help the viewers so much. Seeing people in situations similar, worse, and better than my own give me so much inspiration and motivation to continue chugging on. Fernando, your attitude and your sense of responsibility are so great, even if you ended up in this situation. I hope very much that you and Abby were able to find a solution.
usually I get pissed at these in debt types but the humility and sadness in their eyes makes me feel for them. I can't imagine being 33 and being a 110K in debt
This is one of the first episodes where I DESPERATELY want them to come back and have done better. A lot of the time people have such a terrible attitude about their own responsibilities and accountability that I find it difficult to sympathize when they end up not improving. But these guys? I truly hope for the best for them, they seem to really be willing to take advice and make changes for their family ❤
Proud of this couple for coming on. It's humbling to expose so many personal things to thousands of strangers, but they'll never know the people who sit at home and relate/are helped by this content. Fernando and Abby, if you're reading this, you've got this! Think of it like flipping a house. With each step you as a couple are remodeling your financial and relational home! Stay strong! Trust the process! It wasn't that long ago when you were 28 and when you guys hit 36 and you're debt free with a net worth of $100k it will be like a breath of fresh air. You guys got this!
This was probably one of the most relieving episodes to watch after seeing the entire video. I hope they really get it all squared away and start their happy life soon!!
I'm not trying to hate on Abby, I'm just very confused with things on her part. Why is she only applying to around 4 jobs a week when she knows and feels bad that Fernando is taking on all the bills and struggling hardcore. She claims she's willing to clean toilets but if she were applying to even minimum wage jobs, she'd have something by now. It's concerning that she wasn't willing to submit her own financial documents to take the first step to merge their finances. It worries me for their future when she isn't willing to make sacrifices. Fernando I feel is trying to take on the role of trying to provide and is not managing it well but doesn't know how to do better. I especially think it's difficult for him to manage things now when she has done at least the car loan behind his back. Abby's impulses could be a contributing factor to their financial situation. I think it's unfortunate that Fernando is having to forgo essentials like a haircut or new pants if he needs it due to their financial situation.
At the start I was thinking he was the issue, but the further in I got everything seemed to be coming back to things she didn't want to talk about. By the end I'm pretty certain she has the, "My income is my money, and your income is our money" mindset. I also think she heard Caleb is very pro-therapy and was hoping he would pressure Fernando into couples counseling more than any financial advice. When that was being talked about seemed to be when she was most interested in the conversation.
Abby is all talk. She was fired for a reason. She talked so much about side hustles but it actually brings in no income. Fernando isn't going to change because he knows she's the problem.
My question is why didn’t she provide her financial info? Like it’s all him. I get she did disclose info but my guess we aren’t getting the whole story. He’s not the only problem. It’s funny bc she kept downplaying their purchases but look at how much debt they’re in.
It makes me wonder if she was termed for using her internal information to gain financial benefit for her side hustles. If you're working in a department called "Partner Relations" you have access to some info...
Her not selling the BMW sits so absurdly wrong with me. He gets to keep buying her books, pay for her school, and pay off her luxury car she couldn’t afford when she bought it in the first place and he didn’t want her to buy. So so wrong. Once she gets a job and they pay off all the non-BMW debt they should reevaluate their budget so she bears more of the burden of that decision.
I was unemployed for a month back in Feb and not having an emergency fund was an EMERGENCY. This is going to be a tough listen because I can relate to them 19 mins in.
Indeed! Rebuilding my own. It's rough and scary when you don't have one- or it gets depleted and you have to juggle payments. Wouldn't wish that on anyone.
A lot of people hold off on filing for unemployment too. FILE THAT INSTANTLY!. Your (ex) company paid for it already, you might as well use it even if it's only 2 weeks
I’m a Marriage and family therapist. A comment on your advice to have a shared account: While that’s an ultimate goal for couples; commitment, trust, responsibility. For many of the couples that come to these episodes, they don’t trust their partners and rightfully so. I wouldnt ask someone to commit to marriage of they are truly not ready for it. In the same line asking to have a shared account will take more emotional and behavioral changes required by each partner. The consequences of things going terrible on a joint account are far worse than working towards a joint account once the relationship and finances are stable.
@@maxlantano9076 If you’re not interested in different people’s perspectives, why even read the comments? The fact she didn’t get severance from Apple was pretty telling. She was probably a low level employee that wasn’t doing a good job. If her husband was able to float most of the bills without her income means she probably wasn’t making much.
@@boydassistant6621 happens all the time. Sometimes companies need to reduce labor costs so they have mass firings. They usually give a severance package to avoid dealing with unemployment claims. Apple was willing to reimburse her MBA. If she was a good employee but they just needed to downsize, a 3 month severance is small potatoes. The fact they didn’t means they’re confident enough that if she were to file unemployment she wouldn’t get it with little effort on their end.
That’s a layoff, no? I was laid during the GFC. Got severance and unemployment. Getting fired for doing the company wrong is totally different and gets no severance or unemployment. That sounds more like what happened to her.
@@boydassistant6621 if you’re laid off there’s a chance the company wants to hire you back. This happens to a lot of seasonal workers. They’ll work for 8-9 months get laid off for 3 and come back. Sometimes companies know they aren’t going to hire the people back so they are “fired.” Instead of dealing with thousands of unemployment claims, bigger companies, especially like Apple, will just fire you and give you a severance so it’s done and over with because there wasn’t good grounds for firing. But if Apple had grounds for firing her, it has to be bad enough where they wouldn’t give her severance and will dispute her unemployment. I know it seems weird but big business handles stuff like this differently. Just had a friend get fired because there was a company merger and his equal position in the other company had like 10 years more experience so they kept him and fired my friend. They gave my friend a recommendation letter and 6 months of severance.
Caleb, as someone who works at Public Storage(in a different state), you should both be grilling people hard about having storage because 95% of the time, anyone who stores longer than 6 months would've been better just selling and rebuying the items. And you should also stay skeptical and grill harder about the items they are storing, what size unit they have, and the details of the contract. Most people can sell if not downsize at least. And I think they vastly undersold the size of the unit they had. It likely was not just "Some items and a couple motorcycles"
yup. after 2yrs i pushed for my X to either him continue paying the storage and keep everything or we sell whatever sells and the rest bye bye. We was spending more money storing. had we moved back in together i prob would have wanted new look for our place anyways. So unless the plan is to store emporrary, great, but and nolonger than the value of your belongings.
God, I hate Public Storage. Worst experience ever a few months ago. I moved my stuff out after the month I (stupidly) prepaid for. And I say this as someone who used to work in self storage.
I have a storage we pay $210 a month have been transitioning to a new state. We have had it for 5 months I’m thinking we have 1 more month to go get the stuff and transfer it here or just go down for a weekend and do a storage sale and sell most of it or all of it
Not sure if the auditees spend any time in comments, but - I hope Abby knows that there are TONS of people watching who are getting a lot out of it. Encouragement, lifting hopelessness, knowing that there's a way out, and it might not be easy, but it's short-term and worth it to have a future.

@@mikenormandy9250 I wasn't listening too hard about the taco, but there's no way it would've been a good choice either. Those are expensive trucks that hold their value, so I'm sure she was going to buy a new(ish) one. She shouldn't even have a car though, she refuses to be employed or a good worker, and her "side hustles" don't make enough income to bother counting. Abby - you have absolutely provided value to others! The idea of ending up in your situation scares me to death, not because it's hopeless but because it will take work to get out of. Whenever I start to get lax about my finances, these episodes remind me why I'm doing what I'm doing. You and everyone else who has been on the show has helped me catch myself before heading down a path I can't turn around!
If my wife went and bought a car behind my back after i made it clear i didn't want to buy that car. We would probably be getting divorced. If someone is willing to do that you obviously cannot trust them financially.
She’s a sociopath. Notice how she uses the face of “taking responsibility” to convince Caleb that the debt and debt choices aren’t as bad as they seem, notice how she lies pathologically to be seen in a better light regarding credit card debt that went to collections, watch as she over praises Fernando because she knows the current power dynamic suites her better if she lives to leech off of him. The whole episode she’s done with that raspy reflective tone with no nerves or anything not because she wants to be responsible rather because she’ll do whatever it takes to improve her situation with as little sacrifice as possible. Sociopath.
Honestly, context matters. For example, my husband and I have no debts and both save our own money. If him or me ever decide to buy a car, the other one can obviously discuss it, but I wouldn’t stop my spouse from spending his own available money on a car he wants to have and can afford. Neither of us would ever end up taking 16% loan on it though, that’s for sure, but it’s kind of not even up for discussion, we just both know better, by default.
This show helps me because I'm reminded 3x per week that I'm behind on retirement and that I don't want to die on the Walmart floor. It's easy to live in the moment and forget about the future.

Sneaking off to go get the car when he was at work because he said no is going behind his back. Legally he is responsible for that debt as well and she had no right to get a vehicle that equaled her total yearly income with a predatory interest rate.

These are lessons you should have learned while going through your own episode, there is *truly* something off with you man. This is not a normal reaction. So either it's fake or you're just not very kind. This is so so inappropriate of you. I am so disappointed in you. I am so sad that, of all the people Caleb could have given his time help, he gave his time to someone so uninterested j reflecting, growing, and supporting others. Wow. Just wow.
She asked “how” it helps people watching. It helped me by watching other people’s stories and the trouble they are in and to identify what changes I need to make so it can get better for me. I have had a second jobs now for a few months because of these videos. I want to change and correct my spending habits and get on the right track. Thank you Caleb and everyone who comes on for these videos
She probably feels like he’s doing enough for her. Marriage is for better or for worse and now it’s at the worst so let that man take care of you AS HE SHOULD. This is a big test for their marriage. I wonder if he throws it in her face, she seems sad enough that he may just be!
I'm not a psychiatrist but I'm seeing what looks like money avoidant behaviors. Which is where money stresses you out, so you ignore your finances and you end up in a cycle where your finances get worse and worse as you ignore them. They seem like nice people, I hope they can turn it around.
Will say as a viewer of this show has given me a great wake up call. It made me make a budget again and actually learn a lot of financial tips for my situation. I’m 1 year out from a wedding and it made me take the finances seriously and see what we can afford. Thanks for joining the show and thanks Caleb for being consistent
As someone who has worked at Apple in management I can tell you in order to get fired, not laid off, from Apple it means you have to be a bad worker for a very long time. HR likes to cover their bases and it takes like 6 months of documentation. So she’s not telling the entire story of why she got fired, unless she just got into a fist fight at work.
I agree with you. Apple will have security escort an individual out of the building for egregious behaviors (threatening coworkers, theft, drugs on the job, etc); otherwise, before firing someone, there is prior documentation to support this action. Normally, it is not possible to receive unemployment when fired by an employer, so that’s why she was hesitant to apply; however, during times of heavy layoffs, Apple tends to not fight with a fired individual who is filing for unemployment benefits.
Bingo. She is swimming in debt and she ignored her husband and got that high ass car note knowing she’s 60k in school debt is down right insane. She dragging this guy down her hole
It hit me when she said she vouched for him being there for family when they need something. My dad was the same way. He was the oldest of 5 born in the depression so he took on a lot responsibility for the family. He didn’t meet my mom until he was 40 but up until then helped out numerous nieces and nephews when they needed it without question and without expecting to ever get any of back. But when he died (and he worked up until that day) none of them could even be bothered to help. Sometimes it doesn’t pay to be kind-hearted and help people, especially family.
My mama was the same way. Gifting my cousins cars, just for them to take them & immediately sell it for Jordan’s, chains & designer clothes, now they can’t drive to work… cousins who took out loans in my mama’s name. Cousins who would rob her, stealing everything out of her purse. I vowed to never be someone people can use & moved far from family & never visit. When she needed help, she never had help, but was there for everyone.
@@mirandasmith6856Wow! Sorry to hear that! Luckily my dad never bought cars but they’ll take whatever they can if you let them. And once my dad died my own brothers were looking at me the same way. I did what you did and left them in the rear view mirror. Sadly you have to look out for yourself cause no one else will.
Wow, spending is definitely out of control if a couple, without children in the household, can't keep up or stay debt free even with a combined income of over $160k per year. Crazy! Grateful to learn from these two, what not to do!
Initially, I felt bad because I thought the debt was going to be due to losing the job since that's how the episode started. But all of this debt was willing and intentional purchases that were almost all entirely unnecessary. I've never heard of such an insane car loan... 1k+/mo for SIX YEARS at 16% interest??? WHAT
Husband: "Don't get the BMW" Wife: Goes out while he's gone and gets a 6 year loan with 16% interest that's going to end up being over $80,000 He really needs to think carefully about this relationship
When I watch this video I see my mother in his wife, my mother does this the past 38 yrs they been together. She has shopping addiction and she swiped out everything we had to sell everything to settle payments. It is sad, I really hope this couple can go in family counsel and compromise half way. My mother doesnt give a damn, she lost me and my sister, she only have my dad she spend 3k 4k a month on credit and my dad makes $15hr. I wish my mother would open to therapy and turn herself around, her and my dad gonna be homeless soon bc he enabled her and let her run all over him. Rooting for this couple to make some good changed in the future, it's not too late
Hey Caleb, I just wanted to say that you have helped me out tremendously! Although I am just 17 years old, I discovered you this spring. I had a job and a car payment to my dad that sometimes I wasn’t able to make due to bullsh*t spending. After I continued to watch your videos I realized that I had to change. So I went over my bank spending and noticed that all of my money was going to food and stupid things and I only had $100 in my checking account. By watching your videos I was able to save over $2000 in my checking account and gonna move it over to SoFi when I turn 18 this fall. And I am able to make all my car payments to my dad. Along with this I was able to set up and start a successful, cash flow, business! I just wanted to say, if you see this comment, thank you so much for the help!! Planning on attending college next year for a degree I WILL USE!😂
For you to start all this at 17 is incredible. You’ll never end up in a hole that you’ll have to dig yourself out. I’m 32 and discovered Caleb this year and have been digging myself out of the hole I’ve been in my whole life. I was never taught anything about finances and I grew up in a house where everyone was always in massive debt. It was just normal. I learned from Caleb that it is not normal and I can be debt free. But you’ll never have to go through any of that because you started at the very young age of 17. Good for you
You are lucky to see this now. You should definitely also start a retirement account - then you’ll really be in a better financial situation than everyone else.
You’re starting at a great age. Make sure to take full advantage of an IRA. Lots of employers also have a 401K do matching as well. Want a new car or to save for a house? Start building a relationship with several credit unions, local or not. They offer great interest rates and will help you get the loans you’ll need. Invest in yourself and your future!
It blows my mind when these married couples aren't a team! That's what you signed up for! You're a team through and through. You can accomplish great things as a team.
It is a really bad idea to get financially involved with a significant other or even fiancé. So when you’re married it can take a while to wrap your head around it being the right call to merge your finances and I think that’s perfectly okay for that to be a slow process. Since merging your finances with a significant other is bad but not merging your finances with a spouse is more inconvenient (as long as your financial goals are the same). It’s hard to for from 0 to 60.
@@5daysofcoffee You shouldn't date someone that's financial goals aren't the same as yours. Let alone marry them. Talk about setting yourself up for failure.
@@prevaloir5362I believe I made it clear I was specifically talking about merging accounts together or making major purchases with your significant other who is not your spouse. You can still have the same financial goals, and talk about them. You should absolutely be on the same page financially with a significant other.
@@prevaloir5362 Bingo. Couples MUST be on the same page about finance, in-laws, raising the children, and faith before they get married. It’s mind blowing to me that people are marrying without discussing these things first.
I’m sorry, but I’ve been binging on Financial Audit for the past month or so and this is by far my favorite episode. I could really feel how much being there was going to impact their lives and the relief and hope was tangible by the end. Thank you Caleb and your team for creating this channel!
She knows exactly why she was fired from Apple, and I suspect that she is too ashamed to admit it. This is not a off chance situation. It’s either she did something egregious or was a repeat offender. There has to be a valid reason to let go of an employee that has worked at the company for “6 years.” I definitely sense some dishonesty, but pfft guess we will never know
I felt that too, she didn’t want to say much. She didn’t even want to say how much she actually made a month. No employer fires you after 6 years for nothing.
If she’s not working and she fully admits he takes on all of the responsibility of the bills, she should be out washing their cars instead of complaining that he only washed his car
Keep these couple audits coming Caleb . I've learned so much so far and it helps with the tough money conversation that need to be said in any relationship.
I am one of the many who watch you for inspiration. I'm not in a terrible financial situation, but there is always room for improvement. Watching you stops me from eating out as much and buckle down just that little bit more. THANK YOU to everybody that shows up, and reminds me I'm not alone.
More married couples please! Love these. Im trying to get my wife to agree to apply for the show. We (early/mid 40s) followed the Ramsey plan and are in baby step 7, which might be a slight changeup for the show.
A very specific benefit to viewers that she doesn’t seem to be thinking about or seeing: there are countless people out there considering financing a new expensive car. Any viewers in that position can see where she has ended up as a result and (hopefully) will start to really think about the impact that decision rather than the impulsive feeling of “I want the car”
Nah, people will still think that it can't happen to them. It's the side effect of optimism and a high in life to do something like that. There are those times in life when you feel like everything is finally going your way, and you cannot even comprehend that your quality of life would drop.
This is why I talk to my boyfriend about my finances openly. How do you get married to someone and have such separate financial situations? I’m glad they warmed up to the advice and seem receptive to it. I hope they can get out of this debt, benefit from counseling, and live good lives.
Getting fired destroys you mentally ... it's so hard especially when you gave your all to a company or employer and it still wasn't enough. I went through it and I'm still not 100 percent again and the anxiety in my new job is insane. I'm so afraid of it happening again.
I'm surprised she only applies for 4 jobs a week. I've applied to 5 a day minimum for months. Not only is that amount required by unemployment offices here, but the job market is insane, and there's always someone better than you or equally as good as you out there, so there's no time to rest. It is soul crushing, so I hope she finds strength and keeps pushing, being unemployed is awful.
Job hunting is literally a full-time job. You have to allocate many hours to get one. It's depressing and soul crushing. Pray and don't give up. God will open doors. Good luck all! I've been through it. It was tough 😢.
I think you are both so strong for coming on here and with humble attitudes. Your audit informs and teaches people like me who didn’t get financial education growing up or in school. Americans are constantly trying to keep up with each other but majority are in debt and these interviews helps break through the facade. It helps a lot! Sending hugs and love
That’s harder than it seems when she’s got so much in collections, so much student debt and got fired. He was in a previous long term relationship as well so I’m sure that also affects him. Marriage doesn’t just magically get rid of those insecurities.
This is the first audit I've watched where Caleb doesn't get too squeaky high pitched. I really appreciated this couple. They're screwed now, but they have potential to get out of this and be the best case scenario follow up episode.

The wife buying a $60k BMW against his advice is probably the exact reason they don’t have a joint checking account, and I don’t blame him.
This was my exact thought. And now he's stuck paying the payments for a car he was against from the beginning because she lost her job

That wasn't the first thing she's done against this man's advice.
Also. Don't be a doormat like this fella.

I thought the same thing! Let’s bring these people back
Honestly. And their situation sounds like a lot of peoples situation. This really could happen to anyone. I hope they’re doing better as well.

Except her obsession with the but we move excuse. That’s the bit I can’t stand.
I appreciate Fernando's honesty when he says "I was not managing my finances correctly". He didn't put the blame on anyone but himself. That to me is the mark of an honest and humble person.

You’ll get out of that in no time. So people are more aghast at her car payment because it was almost triple the recommended income percentage for over double the recommended term while his is about at the max recommended income percentage for just under double the recommended term.
Are they both bad? Yes! But his is a reasonable percentage of his income. Hers is insane in every way.

Her not selling the BMW sits so absurdly wrong with me. Once she gets a job and they pay off all the non-BMW debt they should reevaluate their budget so she bears more of the burden of that decision.

While that’s an ultimate goal for couples; commitment, trust, responsibility.

@@SoahkGnik216 yeah... and Apple didn't do a layoff. This was targeted or performance-based firing.
Maybe she just quit and doesn't want to admit it to him 😬
I feel like she’s not only being dishonest about her firing, but also her decisions and her income to her husband. Pretty messed up.
The fact she didn’t get severance from Apple was pretty telling. She was probably a low level employee that wasn’t doing a good job. If her husband was able to float most of the bills without her income means she probably wasn’t making much.
@@butlerbees6639who gets a severance when fired?

@@TsundemoI mean when she was talking about her retirement she sounded like she was on the brink of tears
Honestly, context matters. For example, my husband and I have no debts and both save our own money.
She’s definitely hiding something, it’s makes no sense.
Why does it matter?
I agree with you. Apple will have security escort an individual out of the building for egregious behaviors (threatening coworkers, theft, drugs on the job, etc); otherwise, before firing someone, there is prior documentation to support this action. Normally, it is not possible to receive unemployment when fired by an employer, so that’s why she was hesitant to apply; however, during times of heavy layoffs, Apple tends to not fight with a fired individual who is filing for unemployment benefits.

Yeah, just goes to show it’s not always about how much you make but how much you keep.
He has a kid.
@@robertsprague3981I totally missed where he said it. I don’t think it was covered in the first section?
@@dm96177 he make $2k a week (after taxes)…They didn’t get into the income part until later in the video
WHAT
Husband: "Don't get the BMW"
Wife: Goes out while he's gone and gets a 6 year loan with 16% interest that's going to end up being over $80,000
He really needs to think carefully about this relationship
Thing is, they could’ve just sold it immediately after the loan. There’s no reason to still keep it!
@@LaSombraa You're not going to get the value on it. It's not a Honda/Toyota. Cars like that sink money very fast.

With the right guidance I feel this couple can clean up this mess and have a bright future together. They clearly respect each other which says a lot.
She was upset about a carwash and has a 1,150 car payment.
Right ??!! lol
Notice she kept bringing up how HER car wasnt being washed? She clearly loves that damn car more than her husband.
Bruh, you’re wrong. She said she was willing to get rid of her car. She clearly isn’t willing to give up her husband.
You go!
But I'm worried that kid paying off their parents debt. It's awful 😢
But you will be in a better place, I believe ❤
Good shit bro I could say we in the same boat brotha 👍🏽Also what business are u looking into getting into bro
That was my first thought as well
It is a really bad idea to get financially involved with a significant other or even fiancé.
There has to be a valid reason to let go of an employee that has worked at the company for “6 years.”
I definitely sense some dishonesty, but pfft guess we will never know
I felt that too, she didn’t want to say much. She didn’t even want to say how much she actually made a month. No employer fires you after 6 years for nothing.
Considering she bought a bmw for over 1.1k/mo I believe she was sniffing her farts waaaaaay tooooooo much
have you heard of the gift of desperation? these tight spots can humble and change people (happened to me lol)
Stay tuned. Maybe on the next episode we will have an opportunity to dive deeper into what we didn’t during this episode. Thanks for watching!
Why is it relevant to the video?
If she’s not working and she fully admits he takes on all of the responsibility of the bills, she should be out washing their cars instead of complaining that he only washed his car
nah she too busy throwing their life away for 2020 BMW's while also claiming she'll go "cook and clean". yeah sure you will chica

Keep these couple audits coming Caleb . I've learned so much so far and it helps with the tough money conversation that need to be said in any relationship.
He looks like such a cool guy, you can see he’s a good soul in this world.
I am one of the many who watch you for inspiration. I'm not in a terrible financial situation, but there is always room for improvement. Watching you stops me from eating out as much and buckle down just that little bit more. THANK YOU to everybody that shows up, and reminds me I'm not alone.
I really hope this couple returns for a follow up! I sincerely hope they are doing better and have a chance to report back.
More married couples please! Love these. Im trying to get my wife to agree to apply for the show. We (early/mid 40s) followed the Ramsey plan and are in baby step 7, which might be a slight changeup for the show.
We’re mid-30s and also in baby step 7. I’d love to see a “financially free Friday” once a month or something!!
I love watching your videos as a 19 year old college student, I feel like I’m learning so much about healthy spending habits!
Thank you for sharing!
Nah, people will still think that it can't happen to them. It's the side effect of optimism and a high in life to do something like that. There are those times in life when you feel like everything is finally going your way, and you cannot even comprehend that your quality of life would drop.
$1200 car payment is fucking crazy. Those guys at the dealership where probably laughing all the way home.

This is why I talk to my boyfriend about my finances openly. How do you get married to someone and have such separate financial situations? I’m glad they warmed up to the advice and seem receptive to it. I hope they can get out of this debt, benefit from counseling, and live good lives.
Good girl - money problems are one of the top reasons for divorce.🤑
4 a week is the unemployment minimum so that’s why
Job hunting is literally a full-time job. You have to allocate many hours to get one. It's depressing and soul crushing. Pray and don't give up. God will open doors. Good luck all! I've been through it. It was tough 😢.
This was a heart warming episode I think you could tell Caleb really cared about them and you could tell they were really thankful for him. 🙏
As a partnership, how can you win when you are this divided? This is so concerning.
This audit is helpful but they need to go to marriage counseling now after it.
I think they took "divide and conquer" the wrong way 😅
It appears he was married before and has trauma from it. Which is understandable, I’m divorced too and it’s hard. But marriage is a partnership!
@@amyk.2500 Yeah ,he shouldn't have gotten married again until he was ready
That’s harder than it seems when she’s got so much in collections, so much student debt and got fired. He was in a previous long term relationship as well so I’m sure that also affects him. Marriage doesn’t just magically get rid of those insecurities.
This is the first audit I've watched where Caleb doesn't get too squeaky high pitched.
I really appreciated this couple. They're screwed now, but they have potential to get out of this and be the best case scenario follow up episode.
