It's not really a surprise that he's writing a book as his sister, Evan, is a Pullitzer Price winning journalist for the Boston Globe in 2021. Which there's a Tweet from MrBallen himself about that. His father, Scott Allen, writes for the Biston Globe, as well.
John F. Kennedy didn’t want to be President. He had Addison’s Disease and horrible back injuries. His brother was the one Joseph senior had been preparing for it and felt was more serious. It’s very wild to think about fate and destiny.
He wildly overstates the importance and effectiveness of the German "Vengeance" weapons. They were an act of pure spite, with no particular military purpose, just Hitler pissing away military resources on ineffectual terror attacks. The rockets couldn't be aimed beyond the most basic "somewhere in this major city" kind of way, and could not be reliably targeted on military objectives because of this. These weapons killing 5,000 civilians over the course of the whole war SOUNDS impressive, until you realize that even a single major Allied bombing raid on the city of Hamburg in 1943 (the year before this story takes place) killed 20,000 German civilians in a single night, while the 1945 Firebombing of the city of Dresden would kill 25,000 civilians in a single day. As for grand totals, over the course of the entire war, German bombing of Britain killed about 60,000 civilians, while British and American bombing of Germany killed more than 600,000 civilians, utterly destroyed about 60 cities, and left 7.5 million civilians homeless. Even if the British hadn't already dealt with the problem, Operation Aphrodite was completely unnecessary. The rockets they were trying to destroy were useless for military purposes (actually, they were BEYOND useless, since they actively drained huge amounts of resources away from other, much more effective German weapon programs), and really only had value as instruments of German propaganda. And with the Normandy invasion already under way for more than 2 months by the time the mission happened, Allied ground forces were only weeks away from overrunning those factories and storage sites anyway, making the entire mission utterly pointless from the start.
A not-so-fun fact about the V2s is that more people died in their construction (Von Braun and the like made use of copious amounts of grueling slave labor) than they killed in actual military actions.
Hey so idk if you guys had this issue or not, but I know for creators Kidd and Cee, they also react to Mr.ballen, have said that his intro music is copyrighted. And they’ve been muting the intro ever since. And seemingly had no more issues. Just letting you know just in case.
