      I'm a gonna build me one (for exercise mostly as I'm a 68yr old retired cowboy) but the "cool factor" must be there in what-ever I drive around in/on as well or I'll just lose interest in even riding it! And so you have inspired me lots! As I wuz searching for just the right frame and most I saw were aluminum and I don't fab aluminum at all! And I want to build one that I can paint-up like first old Harley's and then in fancy gold lettering have.. "Hardly-Ableson" on the tank sides! and use a small motorcycle engine (125cc-150cc) because I want it to go.. Put-put-put, NOT Eeeeee-eeeee when it is running and it would be my get-around-small-town bike, Ya pedal until ya give out and then fire her up and motor back again!
      And yea I'd wear a modded helmet with leather glued over the top and old style aviator goggles and a brown bomber jacket, well you get the idea!
      Hey Thanks Man, I think I might try this frame out and of course build my own springer too! Yea a way cool ride for that environmental gas saver BS! Oh I also have several real Harleys iron-heads and one 1200 EVO so I'm not a "Girly-Man" Arnie! Hahahaha! which IMO are what those little 2-cycle Bike Motors sounds like!

      @@kennyh5083 Thanks again! I was in the same boat, I don't know how to work with aluminum or chomemoly so I was really excited to find that cheap steel frame at Walmart. I also have a drop loop frame from Worksman Flyer that I will be building on in the near future. I'd recommed taking a look at those! Lots of room in the Worksman Flyer frame for a larger engine. Thankd again for commenting and watching!

    It looks really nice. Great job on the fiberglass, something I've never been any good at. But you left the worst part of the Chinese engine kit on the bike. That chain stay mounted tensioner. I have built a couple of those Chinese motorized bicycles, and the first one almost killed me. That screen door roller on the tensioner broke, the chain and metal part of the tensioner got pulled into the rear wheel, breaking several spokes and locking up the rear wheel. I went down hard. I was riding in a bike lane, and fortunately I fell toward the sidewalk instead of into traffic. On the next one I cut the chain to fit and left off the tensioner.

    • @BIGFOOTBIKESANDBREWS
      @BIGFOOTBIKESANDBREWS  10 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the comment! It's been a while but I think I ended up using some metal roller bearings and washers for the tensioner wheel and tossed the one that came in the kit. I was going to use one of those engine case mounted spring loaded tensioners but, if I remember right, I was having clearance problems with the wide tires so I needed to have the tensioner back further and shim out the rear sprocket to make it all work. Thanks again for watching!

    I had the same idea of using floral foam and fiberglass to build my tank as well as it is how we used to build all sorts of stuff back in the day.
    Not sure why you would want to go through the trouble of building a steel tank to go inside that will just rust and likely leak anyways.
    Many modern motorcycles have fiberglass tanks and they work just fine..

      @BIGFOOTBIKESANDBREWS  11 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for the info Sean! I was thinking the fiberglass tank may break if I ever got in a wreck so I went with the metal. You are right though, It did start leaking :) I ended up having to use a tank liner to seal it up. Thanks again for watching!

    Little 'trick' about foam and fiberglass: If you are using styrofoam you can dissolve the foam with aceton after you have finished the outer layer with fiberglass.

      @@BIGFOOTBIKESANDBREWS Have you had any issues with the engine so far? (yeah i know its a 2 stroke tho), Can you elaborate on the head you installed on the motor (size, price, what to look for)? Do you think a 4 stroke engine can fit in the frame? Did you strip off the paint before prime and paint? Usually thats the usual prep but i just want to make sure. Love the tires but did you find similar ones that fit properly? Could you use a metal chain tensioner guide instead of the plastic guide? Last but not least..i have no welding skills or equipment to weld. Would the chemical weld work just as good (and that would go for making a large gas tank also)? sorry for the list of questions and any info would be helpful. That bike you created is just beautiful. It looks like old world handcrafted quality work. Something these days are lacking. I use your bike as a standard against other creations.

      @@0PsychosisMedia0 I haven't had any issues with the engin yet. However, I only have one summer of putting around downtown on the bike so only time will tell. I would think the 49cc 4 stroke would fit. I am thinking about doing a 4 stroke build in the near future and will check if I go that route. I had the entire frame sandblasted to bare metal. I used a couple of metal bearings and washers as my tensioner. I think I want to go back to plastic though, the metal one is awefully noisy.As far as the tank, I would use a real welded tank, don't want something failing and dumping gas on a hot engine!!!
