- In "American Booger Pickers", Taryl goes over the proper way to rebuild a Kohler Magnum 20 carburetor and also other issues to look for when doing the job. Before and after the tutorial, Taryl and Junior hit up local booger collector "Elk Skins" to see what rare and expensive boogers they can pick from his snot yard. It'll take some haggling and bargaining in order to get Elk Skins to come off the ultimate booger... but can they pick it? Check it out here and see. Now There's Your Dinner!

When the plague first hit and we couldn’t go anywhere I drug an old Huskvarna lawn tractor out of the woods to fix just so I’d have something to do. All I’d ever done to a mower before was just routine maintenance but I knew it had a valve problem when it was parked. I looked up some stuff on RUclips and found Taryl and I fixed the moved valve guide and replaced the push rods, rebuilt the spindles, aligned the wheels by adjusting the non adjustable drag links (I figured that one out myself), put new tubes in the tires, new wheel bearings, found and replaced a bad safety switch and tomorrow I’m taking the kill wire to Radioshack (I know, but we still have one in town) and get a diode to fix it. Then I’m putting this thing up for sale and buying another broke down mower to fix off the local radio swap shop.
Thanks Taryl.
Wow you have a RadioShack near you that's cool I'm miss that place I can't find one were I live. Anyway good luck with the build.👍
@@nateg5887 all the RS corporate stores died. It's only the few and far between franchise owned stores that survived.
Thanks! We still have one, like Erik said it was never a corporate store. Which is good because the guy that owns it knows all about radios and electronics so he can help with anything. Sometimes when he’s out of something it takes him a while to get it though because he says he has to order $700 worth of merchandise before they will send him an order now. I love the place, there are half fixed telephones and radios laying all over the counter.
We still have a Western Auto too but it’s mostly a straight up lawnmower shop now with maybe a few bicycle parts.
And that Sir. Is called capitalism glad to be an American! :)
I did something similar, except my fixes were doing engine swaps and tranaxles swaps... I also accumulated a decent amount of parts. The wife is real happy about it hahaha
We finally see Elkskins after all these years!
Love you guys. This channel Rocks!!!!! I do small engine repairs and I get schooled sometimes by you. Please keep the videos coming they never get old.
This is one smart dude. He's saved me so much money by watching him repair other things. Teryl is the man.
Anyone who ever said you rip people off, should go play in traffic! You are giving away tons of information about small engines, lawn mowers, lawn tractors and all sorts of gardening equipment for free! Step by step DIY guides on pretty much everything lawn equipment related for free!
If that's not the ultimate gift to all the people that watch your videos, I don't know what is. Your videos have helped me fix my dad's lawn mower twice! My dad is not interested in cars and engines, he can do lots of home DIY, but he'd rather have the dealer fix engines and stuff for him. I like messing with engines, I'm a car guy and I enjoy working on my 2 cars, doing maintenance, etc...
I said I want to give it a whirl, fixed the lawn mower both times (1st time it was the carburetor, 2nd time was the transmission) and saved my dad a bunch of money. All because of you! And for that I say thank you!
Business is business, but the videos you do are so much more than entertainment.
Those Roper/Sears tractors from the 70's are worth saving. Good machines.
Yup they sure are. I got a few of them
Thank you for shedding light on the fact that sometimes you go in to fix something based on symptoms, but it may be a combination of things. That happens more often than not. I learned a lot. Happy Father's Day!
I like watching you're videos I've learned alot from watching you.
I work on mowers as a hobby to stay busy since I retired.
Keep up the great work and crew.
Another informative video from a guy that knows his stuff, love ya work Taryl because it's real advice not just bullshit.
I like the brass filters, like the the ones used in old carburator, on cars that are made from tiny brass beads stuck together, then sometimes machined to shape, it has very tiny holes that filter the fuel , they are less common these days! They can be difficult to clean, if they get in bad shape, I had issues with the cheap filters on a scooter, they cause carb issues on about 4 carbs!! There is some things you shouldn't skimp and cut corners on! 😀
I used to go see Twisted Sister when they were an amatuer band when I lived on Long Island N.Y. many moons ago.
Me also Bayshore.
Good Rats...
I did rebuilt my carb last year. It ran great BUT, it's a different story this season. My engine runs great with a little bit of choke. The fact you mentioned the fuel filter makes sense. A carb doesn't start to run on "fuel starvation" mode out of the blues. Oh well, I just learned that, even small engine shops will, inadvertently, sell cheap filters. Good point Taryl and team.
Great video! Tones of valuable information in this one, loved the American booger pickers skit too , you have obviously watched the real show once or twice. 👍👍
I removed my Kohler fuel pump on my JD Lawn Tractor. I got tired of the check valves coming loose. So I replaced it with a Chinese POS replacement from EBAY. Big mistake. The engine started to fill up with fuel after 3 uses I had gained 3/4" of oil level. Luckily I checked my oil level and caught it in time. Thanks to Taryl's advice, I removed the lever actuated pump and replaced it with a B & S pulse pump and made a small block off plate with a hose barb threaded into it. No more problems. Thank you for saving me from a blown engine Taryl!
I love it! Your finger over the price because " Taryl, you are ripping people off. ". At some point in your videos, you crack me up. Not only am I being educated, I am being entertained too.
"thats what we call snotballin'"!! This skit was hysterical!! Well done.
Thanks Taryl, have a great Father's day!
I’m hoping to see more on that Magnum 20. I’ve got one on an old Gravely Promaster 50 that’s doing exactly what you said. I started with the carb, but it’s spitting gas. I really appreciated seeing that little tidbit of advice thrown in there.
Love your stuff gang! Keep ‘me coming!
Bryan Rizzuto Valve job video coming soon! 👀
Thanks again for another plate of Dinner!
Love to see you do a nice Taryl valve job on that Survivor. I always loved that style of twin Kohler. Hard workers, few problems.
Looking forward to the restoration on the sears suburban, I just redone a simplicity 6216, love the old garden tractors 🚜 also love the Deliverance shirt lol
From a keyboard cowboy. Thanks to you I was able to drive my mower around the yard last night. Going. WOOOOOOO FIXED LEAKING NEEDLE AND SEAT FROM A WALBRO CARBATRAITOR BY A KEYBOARD COWBOY WHOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Thanks again Mr Dactal. I'll be ordering my shirt as a thank you for serving me my dinner!
I use a little metal polish on the end of the q-tip to polish the seat and it takes the varnish right off the whole inside of the seat and it makes the needle seal if it wasn't before. I fix some pretty nasty leaky carbs that way.
I use valve lapping compound. Sometimes I even have to put a drill bit about the same diameter as the the float needle into my drill and run it in reverse at slow speed against the seat, then polish with the lapping compound.
Great video! I have a Kroler pro 25 that runs rich as can be.. even with a brand new carbitrator. I'll be searching your videos today to hopefully find the answer. Thanks for the great videos.
This guy right here has tought me how to work on mowers,I now own a shop making almost $450 a day
It's always better to teach a man to fish than to just give him a fish. Taryl has helped me out also he's a good man.
Stop playing
Taryl I watch y'all all the time. I mentioned this 1 time before but it would be cool for you to do a video on an old swisher.a friend of mine just got one with an 8hp vertical briggs.looks and runs good.blew his mind when I knew what it was. Local shop confirmed.a lot of people liked them.
He is a freaking library of knowledge !!
There used to be an insecticide sprayer called a Flit gun which uses the same principle of drawing liquid up and atomising it.
Nothing more satisfying than picking a good booger!!!....Love the skit!!!
Thanks gang!!! Love the extras you've added.
Interesting observation about those pleated air filters. I never would have thought about it. A couple of weeks ago I was looking at a John Deere that just wasn't running up to full power. I replaced the fuel pump and the pleated air filter, and that made all the difference. I'm thinking now it was just the filter.
Happy Fathers day Taryl!!!
When rebuilding carburtators decade's ago, I use to polish the needle jets with FINE (0000) steel wool. Idled and ran super smooth.
.... I'm watching too many of these videos, I nearly said 'Carbistrator' yesterday.
Well done Mate, your influence spans the entire globe !
When I recommend this channel to friends I describe Taryl as the love-child of Alice Cooper & Einstein.
Even tho I don"t own this particular "carbatraitor",I alway"s get great generic tips from these vids no matter what I"m working on,
Taryl Fixes All. Looks like the Kohler engine in the video has some similarities to the KT-17 Series 2 that’s in my Cub Cadet. Luckily my carburetor is gravity fed - And that’s fine by me. I’m looking forward to your upcoming video on performing a valve job.
I’m very much looking forward to Slippers upcoming videos as well. Speaking Of Slippers, I had a bad experience with a Briggs & Stratton aftermarket fuel tank/carburetor ensemble - So I am going to try the double gasket/diaphragm fix with the OEM gas tank/carburetor that Slippers performed in one of the previous videos. And There’s You’re Dinner From Central Kentucky.
Love the wheel horse stuff! Noticed that gas tank Taryl was holding!
Yup I have some parts. But tiller is not for sale. It's going to be in a video some day I hope
I’m excited about the upcoming restoration!
Taryl! Happy Father's Day!
Where did you get the " straw holder" is that DIY or available for purchase? I think I've never seen one before.
Excellent video,as always!! Keep them coming!!
Another great how-to! Love the outtakes at the end.
Go for it Slippers! Nice socks too.
I'm anxious to see that valve job Taryl. Happy Fathers day boys.
I believe briggs recommends the big side of the screen type fuel filter toward the fuel source. They work great and last forever.
I just want to say thank you Tarly for getting me into this trade thank you buddy
Enjoyed another great repair job, Thanks Taryl and crew! The nozzle holder on the carb spray can made my day! Nice rig Slippers, good luck with the restore!
Great episode as always Taryl, booger pickers was great, hilarious! I recently picked a booger, a hard to find antique Hoffco Brushette brushcutter with a West Bend 580 engine!
Carl Childers!!!! Sling blade! lol, Great impression Taryl!.
I think it would be helpful if you did a video only on how to adjust carburetors and fuel mixture screws and such.
Old slippers got him a nice old classic to work on yeah we'll look forward to that seeing that thing restored I love them old garden tractors and lawnmowers and those things are fun to work on fun to clean up get running and they won't dollar you plum to death like a big four wheeler or truck or something lime that will!
I'm going outside now and see if I can pick a big ole booger, so there yer supper!
I've got an old lawn beater witha Kholer 20 on it runs like a dream (when it starts)
Thanks for the content, learned about the fuel filters, thanks.
Thanks for the carb tuning review.
There was so much good useful info in there, and funny as hell! Great to see the whole team too. Thanks so much. Have to question slippers choice of socks tho' 😆 👍👍👏
Gotta love them bloopers. You know, under that masquerade, they're human too.
😁 I was having fun and had issues holding a straight face at times lol
Happy Fathers Day to you Taryl and all others that comply.
happy fathers day guys thanks this was a really helpful video
I have that engine on a 1720 cub cadet and I need to know how to set the governor. I guess I can just wait till you do the valve job to see how. Thanks for sharing the video!
Great video for Father's day. Also great teaching from Taryl. I'm stuffed from that dinner 😁
Great work ! Loved the skit,Just like the show ..Hop out of the truck and start yelling like mike does 😂

New York City National Institute of Dramatic Art never had graduates to compare. Fine work fellas.
Love these guys.👍
Really cute "Picker " parody-awesome!
Sling blad I reckon there there ain’t no gas in it give me some more mustard and biscuits great videos I love the booger pickers
As usual, I learned some good info & tips. Thanks! 😀
Is there any chance you could show us how the governer and throttle are hooked up on this bad boy? My gravely mower engine looks a lot like this one accept she got some coat hanger pieces and the choke and throttle are mixed up, no spring, probably missing half the brackets. She got boogered up pretty good before i got her!
The carb tips in this video were priceless! I popped mine apart and found some problems, but coulent have figured it out with out ya!
Thanks brothers!!!
Thanks buddy information is key
More American Booger Pickers! Serious brain scratching going on.
Happy Father's Day Taryl.
HAPPY FATHERS DAY GUYS!!! Thanks
Nice job, Happy Fathers Day, and thanks for the video's.
Thanks for the video on the Kroler Magnum 20 Carbitrater. I have a Kroler Magnum 18 on my old Crapsman Lawn Tractor. What is your opinion of the Kroler Magnum engines? Keep up the goo work.
at 1:57 i spot a snapper rear engine rider way in the back i hope taryl does a video on one
Thanks for the info on fuel filter recommendations.
Happy pappy day Dr taryl. Are we going to see a part two on the shop tow truck? Hopefully more booger picking!! Thanks Dr. Time to bust out the Hamm's!!
Hello Mow Tow :) Great informative video!
Kervin P.'s socks are priceless. Or maybe I can have them for 200?
Looking forward to the restoration!
In Virginia so many places have dozens of busted mowers laying around...and pick up trucks.
Great tip on the Fuel Pump swap TD. Thanks. When in doubt of flooding or spark, try Quick Start Spray.
Good evening guys
Thanks for the tip on float level have a rider runs about the same amount of time then dies. It has done it with two carbs? It will restart but has to set for a bit to run right again.
Great stuff !
sometimes check the vent hole in the gas cap for a stopped up fuel flow
Glad to see the slip man again 👍😁
Do a valve job on it tayrl love to see it love the video keep them come good job boys
hey Taryl i got my sparkplug and i love it and the stickers are cool love the videos lol
Taryl think you could show us more of the ramp on the back of your truck? Been thinking of building something like it.
, you guys are a fantastic
Nice bloopers funny as always 👍🏻
I’ve got the same engine on my craftsman garden tractor. Made a front end loader for it. Anyway I got 2 of the same tractors + an extra engine. 2 of the engines were junk. They dropped the little screws down the intake on 2 of them. Not good outcome the screws took a chunk out the head right under the valves. But I guess good for me are I would have never got them for free. Thanks for the videos buddy.
I've never seen a Craftsman with a Kohler opposed twin all I see is the ones with Briggs opposed twin that's neat is a LT1000 or is it a lt2000?
Dylan Hair I think it’s a GT 6000 It made a good candidate for my front end loader. That having 2 of them 1 being the donor. The transmission don’t have spider gears in it more like planetary gears. Flipped them over to lock it in posy track. It’s also the trans with a high range & low range.
Some good carb tips there !
Elkskin is a natural born ACTOR, MAn can he act- give him bigger parts or roles to "play", thanks.
Happy Father’s Day Taryle.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WOOOOOOOOOOooo #850 on the Thumbs Up poll!!!! There's my dinner!!!!!!!!
