This man does not get enough credit. He is an extraordinary guitarist with godlike skills. I bet there arent many people raising their hands if I asked about Tommy Emmanuel, sadly.
Flat out the most talented acoustic guitarist extant. Talk about owning an instrument. Tommy's technical skills, approach and creativity are unparalleled, at least in this world!
At least. He's playing faster than I can think! :) Every time I listen to him playing this, I hear something new, even though they all sound alike at first hearing.
I smile all the time because I aspire to get better whenever I pick up the guitar, which is why he smiles too. He doesn't smile because he's thinking "I'm the shit, aren't I?"
Truth teller You are correct. Playing, to the best of your ability, is pure pleasure. It does not matter if you are Tommy Emanuel or a beginner. It is the doing it that matters.
It never gets old. The best guitar player of all time. What dedication he has put into it. So sorry to hear of the passing of his brother, another incredible guitar player. I’ve been following Tommy for the last 20 years, I’ve been to several performances of his and met him in person. He gives so much to his music and others who love music. Play on Tommy!
I don't think I have ever seen another guitarist who so obviously LOVES what he plays. He's always just as into it as his audience. Such a feeling of sincere joy in everything he plays...
I can assure you Tommy Emmanuel is way more into it that the audience. He is obsessing over every note, and that's how he got That Good. I'm a musician on another instrument and I can tell Tommy could show me something about his compositions/arrangements that I didn't notice. He's at the very top.
WOW, I've never heard such fast playing on an acoustic guitar! Tommy's performance incorporates a variety of styles: rockabilly, swing, boogie-woogie, jazz & blues. An *immediate* Favorite !
Diverse Videos Enterprises You're welcome. I like 'The Song of the Golden Dragon' by Estas, too. Well, he has many songs. And sometimes he has incense burning from the neck of his guitar. I don't know why.
What a solid picking technique, so clean, never missing a note. I know from experience that getting a good picking technique is way harder than it looks.
I find something to help it get along - playing drums. It might sound strange at first, but trust me, once you get basic beat control down on a drum set, taking that action to the guitar is great.
***** Yeah i mainly play fingerstyle which in my opinion i am really good at, but playing more heavy death metal and Tool i wanted to use a pick to get that sound.
Just heard Tommy for the first time tonight on Iowa Public Television (IPTV) and was thrilled at his style, speed, and showmanship. Tommy is super outstanding! I just love the man. Go Tommy Go!
When I close my eyes, it's hard to believe that just one man can make all these sounds, simultaneously, and on one guitar! Wow! Would I love to hear Tommy play with Carmen Lien. What a duo they would make!!! She plays the viola!
Superb!!! Makes one guitar sound like a whole orchestra. 1 part inspiration and 9 parts persperation willhave brought him to be such a great player. A lesson to us all.
I love Tommy, that man is beyond a beautiful talent!!! And such a fun fact, no one taught him, just like no one taught me, but i will never even get close to his insane talent!!!
The man is great!!!! I am playingm nearly every day the song on my old piano. It is a great fun. Though I am sure playing it on guitar is 100 times more difficult. True Jimmy Page is a great guitar player; but he play's it on electric guitar and can add lot of sounds that make the job easier. This man is gifted by nature.
An entire world of guitarists have their own take on this, but I think Tommy´s done all us aspiring musicians proud! Matons sound damn good, too! I´ve both seen and heard many of them..
That was the most amazing display of playing I have ever seen! Simply awesome! You have a gift! That was soulful and inspiring and I'm thrilled I got to see it. Thank you!!
He is indeed a gifted and talented guitar picker..This tune is super saturated with Stevie Ray Vaughan "Rude Mood" the MTV unplugged version..Stevie is playing a 12 string..I am of the opinion that it is the greatest honor when other musicians sample..I am glad to hear that others enjoy listening to and try to master the legends that have made the art form of music so great...
This is 100% true. Everyone gives Sungha so much credit for being such a young player and being so talented. Yes, there's no doubt or question that Sungha is an INCREDIBLE player, but what many fail to realize is that there are players such as Tommy Emmanuel who were better than Sungha when they were like 12. Only if youtube was prevalent back then...
Tommy has been voted world's best acoustic player by Guitar Player magazine a few times, is rated by Guthrie Govan (probably the world's best electric guitar player technically) as the acoustic "God", and has won Nashville awards for his playing. Tommy is also phenomenal on electric guitar, which he played a lot more in his younger days in Australia in bands such as John Farnham, Dragon and Doug Parkinson, and as a session player.
Tommy , , your the best ,, , Ive heard them all ,, and your Guitar strings are Smokin ,, , I love it ,God has Blessed you , and your love for sharing it with everyone is wonderful , thank you ,, your inspiring many people ,, I myself used to play , , but i had an accident ,on my hands an can never play again ,, but your playing gives me hope to keep trying , your just so incredible ,, God Bless you always Tommy ,, ( just in case you happen to read this .. ,,
I'm just an ametuer, been playing on and off for 55 years, but followed pro guitarists all that time in blues, jazz, folk, classical and rock. No one i've ever heard has as much technical virtuosity as T.E. His brother, Phil, comes close. Style and feeling are very important but subjective. He has as much of that as most when he wants to display it. Remember, he works mostly on acoustics. It's a lot harder to be fast AND precise than on an electric. He's just got superior DNA for it and has worked hard to develop it. I don't think he is rich or even very famous, but he loves the craft. Let's all just do our best, as he does.
God people are stupid. Music shouldn't be about comparisons and who's better than who. Music is about the love of music. Do you think Tommy cares if he is better than Page or Hendrix? Probably not, but I guarantee he recognizes them as wonderful musicians.
daquan jones Luca Hulot Truth Teller Ya. I agree. The biggest douche in the world. Why don't you start being nice and stop being an ass just because your wife sleeps around on you
this is what playing at a young age and touring w/ his brother constantly will produce . and this is an old clip ! he tours the world pretty much non- stop . practices every day ! such passion ! they love him in South Korea . I've seen most of his vids . I love " tall fiddler " " the hunt" & " train to dusseldorf "
What is it about this version that makes it soo much better than any others on youtube? It is of course a brilliant show of Tommy's abilities in every case, but only this video has 9,000,000 + views! Performance of a lifetime...
Shiva Well, you're looking at one of the best acoustic guitarists in the world playing an extremely technically demanding song with maximum precision ^^
+Shiva You think he just picked it up and could play like this? Practice, Practice, Practice. I think the opposite. I am going to be able to play like this one day.
+Shiva That is the exact the reason i started to play... Not saying I am good at it, but I love it and enjoy every minute practicing... If you are not, maybe find something that you will enjoy that much. It is easier to do something when you are enjoying it ;) You actually can get the "boogie woogie" sound very easy and it sounds guite good... (not saying I could even think about playing like Tommy, but you would probably recognize what I am playing) tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/m/misc/boogie_woogie_tab.htm
I too just started playing a year ago. I look at things like this video in awe and a twinge of sadness knowing I will never come close 1/100th of the skill of this guitar god.
listen guys music is not a competition , why waste your time and energy arguing and slagging each other , pick up your guitars and play instead , and yes truth teller T.E. is one of the best but so was jimi , and why does a man of your age act and talk so rudely , I can only assume its a joke to you to rile people up , some of you guys act like 12 yr olds , grow up and enjoy the many talented players in this world ,
loo sur Truth teller No. You are a damn fool just like jimi hendrix and page. I am only 85 and I have my whole life ahead of me. Just because I have erectile dysfunction doesn't make me less of a man, at least that's what my $15 hookers tell me. Fight me. Anywhere in the world. I am a real badass because I have taken martial arts at the YMCA and I will kick your ass.
Jim Morrison inside a swamp (inside the water) surrounded by alligators. The loser will of course get eaten by alligators and winner gets to fight for his life against the 700 lb. surrounding alligators. Are you gonna chicken out or what?
people who dont understand passion in an instrument always say "oh wow, that looks so hard! you must be really good!" you watch him, hes not even trying, hes just letting his hands do the work and making it sound the way he likes. skill always leads to better playing, but passion and experience is what makes you effortlessly belt this sorta music out like you're blowing on a whistle.
the power of 240p can't stop tommy's quality of playing
Touche
Sounds just as good at 144p as well.
Sarah Shortt
This man does not get enough credit. He is an extraordinary guitarist with godlike skills. I bet there arent many people raising their hands if I asked about Tommy Emmanuel, sadly.
Agreed. Lucky to have seen him twice and he played this one both times, classical gas and tall fidler - perfectly - a month ago. He's a legend.
И, тем не менее, я поднимаю все четыре конечности, лежа на спине от восторга....!🎉😂❤❤❤
You're kidding right?
Flat out the most talented acoustic guitarist extant. Talk about owning an instrument. Tommy's technical skills, approach and creativity are unparalleled, at least in this world!
Yeah he got nothing on the aliens
You can watch each of the greatest solos, but you will always come back here. Inhumanly hard piece of work.
He seems to be having a better time playing it than I do just listening. If I could play half that well, I would smile all the time, too.
and he is playing 13s..
Still the absolute BEST example of how to play an acoustic guitar!! Period
It never gets old. The best guitar player of all time. What dedication he has put into it. So sorry to hear of the passing of his brother, another incredible guitar player. I don't remember ever enjoying listening to an acoustic guitar artist's technique as much as I do with Tommy Emmanuel's playing style. Just fantastic!
This was the first I heard from him and couldn't believe this was possible on Guitar.. He did ! Awsome , master on Guitar
One of the best of his generation, out of this world playing. Once you clicked and open, you cannot leave in midst for anything.
WOW, I've never heard such fast playing on an acoustic guitar! Tommy's performance incorporates a variety of styles: rockabilly, swing, boogie-woogie, jazz & blues.
An *immediate* Favorite !
This guy is AMAZING!!!! God gave him a gift that few have!! It is a true joy to watch him play!!!!!
Over 8 million views. Very uplifting to know so many can still appreciate beautiful music from the heart :).
I watched it twice.
Legend has it that the video had to be shot in 240p lest we go blind and deaf from this man's sheer brilliance.
Man Oh Man that guy sure can play! All it takes is a lifetime of dedication and a million hours of practice!! WOW
The best guitarist of all time.
R.Blackmore? G.Moore?
OMG !!! unbelievable. There are dozens of bands who wouldnt play this fast together but this guy does it all on his own. Respect! Love it!
Well. I think he is the best guitarist in the world out of all I've heard so far. Amazing talent. I loved it.
Have you heard Estas Tonne play? Listen to his guitar on 'Between Fire & Water.' Amazing.
I'll have to check it out. Thanks.
I'm watching Estas video right now. It's amazingly awesome. Thank you writerforlifeify for bringing it to attention.
Diverse Videos Enterprises You're welcome. I like 'The Song of the Golden Dragon' by Estas, too. Well, he has many songs. And sometimes he has incense burning from the neck of his guitar. I don't know why.
Incense might be for meditation, relaxation?
What a solid picking technique, so clean, never missing a note. I know from experience that getting a good picking technique is way harder than it looks.
I find something to help it get along - playing drums. It might sound strange at first, but trust me, once you get basic beat control down on a drum set, taking that action to the guitar is great.
bbkingzor Way ahead of you :D played drums for 4 years and some really intense bass playing for 1,5 years. Im getting quite good at picking.
MrHestichs Cool! Did you also find that the drumming translates into strumming, be it on bass or guitar?
*****
Yeah i mainly play fingerstyle which in my opinion i am really good at, but playing more heavy death metal and Tool i wanted to use a pick to get that sound.
@@bbkingzor Hi 7 years ago! Tommyt is also a drummer - really good one. It all comes together...
One of those very few guitar riffs that sticks with you, right from the first hearing!
3:47 - the dude clapping "I need to find another job"
lol
LMAO you can really see it in his face :D :D
i think he actually was just a kid from the audience who entered a contest, and he won that guitar and got to sit on stage.. if i remember correctly
Just heard Tommy for the first time tonight on Iowa Public Television (IPTV) and was thrilled at his style, speed, and showmanship. Tommy is super outstanding! I just love the man. Go Tommy Go!
I love that there's a rare cat like this walking around soul, passion, depth,incredible..
Just learned Guitar Boogie on guitar. Then I found this. And it reminded me how much more I have to learn!
Good wishes with it!!! 👍🏼 ❤️
I never knew a person this good could live..
Love how passionate and into his music he gets it makes me enjoy watching him play that much more!
When I close my eyes, it's hard to believe that just one man can make all these sounds, simultaneously, and on one guitar! Wow! Would I love to hear Tommy play with Carmen Lien. What a duo they would make!!! She plays the viola!
Fantastic, I love the way this guy performs.
Every time I hear this guy play it make me want to scream. How did this guy get so freaking good? Maybe he is not human....
I can have an awful day, but then come back to this.Tommy you are an inspiration!
It's great to watch and listen to Tommy Emmanuel playing guitar. He is amazing!
He ran that guitar like an admin.
I know what is it all about: as he's playing you can hear every single note and sound.
One of the most epic things to play the bass along!
His fingers actually look like they're dancing. He's truly one of the greats.
The most awesome guitar boogie ever, PERIOD!!!
Well, I'm thoroughly amazed. Whatever style you like to play, this is the excellence to strive for.
This is total mastery over guitar.
I hope he still exudes the pure joy when playing today as he does in this video from 2006. I'm guessing he does.
This man is gifted by nature.
no matter how grainy the video, every performance has some thing unique and priceless, go Tommy go go go
Sadly, this video has made me realize I'm not going anywhere with a guitar. Amazing.
Suerbe interprétation....Formidable..Heureux de découvrir cet artiste.
I see you tell a story with your guitar, and it's a beautiful one. There's so much you can give to the world, hope you live forever Tommy!
An entire world of guitarists have their own take on this, but I think Tommy´s done all us aspiring musicians proud! Matons sound damn good, too! I´ve both seen and heard many of them..
Incredible man, incredible technique, fantastic show
I saw Tommy play this live and it was God-like - I'm going to convert my guitar into a coffee table now.
one of the best guitar instrumentals out there, big thumbs up to Tommy!
This, in my opinion, is the essence of a guitarist.
That was the most amazing display of playing I have ever seen! Simply awesome! You have a gift! That was soulful and inspiring and I'm thrilled I got to see it. Thank you!!
The lick at 1:18 is jaw dropping.
Former sure is!
I had to play it quarter speed! On youtube that is haha
I just don't get bored pressing that replay button again... This dude's just MAD!

Agree! Tommy is the Guthrie of acoustic...or Guthrie is the Tommy of electric!

I had my guitar in my hand before watching this vid. Its back on the stand now, probs for a while
The guy clapping at the end is like, "Damn, now what am I gonna play?"
lmao🤣🤣

Never ceases to amaze.

i bet im not the onlly one jigging their leg up and down with the beat, smiling and dancing along with this awesome piece of genius
Watching this again after 13-14 years. Mind is blown - again!
His brother Phil is no slouch either!
Rip Phil
He has 6 fingers in his left hand, but the cam only can see five.

Tommy Emmanuel has the best feelings for music ♫
Это не он играет...это бог.
Ho Lee Phuk.
Remember finding this when youtube was young an my face melted.
Fantastic! What a brilliant piece of acoustic guitar playing.
