  • Tommy playing all of "Classical Gas" on the Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour Show No. 245! This is one of my favourite versions that Tommy does of this song! Little bit of "Walk Don't Run" by The Ventures in the middle! Awesome!

Tommy plays this hands down better than anybody else I can find , I’m in to extreme thrash metal, I never thought classic guitar could make me feel the same excitement as this does , what a genius

This video changed my life. As Tommy heard about Chet in the radio, I first heard about Tommy in this video and since then I've been playing his music. Usually when you discover a guitar virtuoso you just give up trying to learn what you've seen, but I saw it and so far I'm still learning this song; and of course every one of him. That's my story, I had to tell you ;)

@corny I'm seeing this comment two years later, sorry for the late reply haha! During this time I've been doing my own stuff, kind of a rockabilly-psychobilly (always fingerstyle, that's where Tommy comes) and suddenly this quarantine has made me take the acoustic guitar again and here I am re-watching all my favorite videos of Tommy and playing again all of his songs ;) Greetings from Spain and I hope everyone is fine!

corny What a great opportunity we’ve given to pick up again our instruments and study and practice as we used to do before! I can’t open my bar so what better could I do? Love Netherlands, I’ve been some times to Apeldoorn, Den Haag, Rotterdam and Amsterdam, would love to come back but this time on tour! We’ll be playing in a festival in Germany (not sure if this summer or next, it depends on the situation) so if we stop by your country I’ll let you know just if there’s a chance to meet haha how legendary that would be? All the best and thanks for your comment of Dazed & Confused! Cheers ;)

Tommy is absolutely without a doubt the greatest and most wonderful guitarist on the planet. Everything from his playing, his original songs, his magical performances and his beautiful, generous and humble spirit. Love this man ❤️
Also, some of the really negative comments on here are freaking hilarious 😂 I'm still laughing at the " (knowledgeable) listener" who thinks this is junk.

2.- Keep going and be "A Better Guitar Player... "
*I've chosen the SECOND ONE !! Guitarists Please DON'T GIVE UP!!*

Satisfied ears, dropped jaws and dry, wide open eyes - well worth listening to.
Bleeding fingers, countless hours with a guitar on your lap, knowing you have this skill - well worth learning.
They sure don't make good music like this anymore.

***** Don't misunderstand me!!! I'm not saying he's the crappiest player I ever heard---I'm the worst I ever heard trying to play this. I meant to say this particular version doesn't get me going. Like the old saying says, 'Diffrent strokes for diffrent folks.'

    • @kennethlyneham138
      @kennethlyneham138 9 лет назад +2

Scott Johnson Probably the quintessential version of this song is that of it's writer, Mason Williams. THAT'S the version most people relate to and the one that evokes memories.
But, when he cut that tune, he had a 30 piece orchestra backing him, I don't think he has ever done it on his own.
Also this version, fast as it is, works because TE slots in 'Walk Don't Run' into it which wouldn't sound so good slow.
It's not so much ones ability to copy another, rather to put ones identity into it that counts.
      This version screams, Tommy Emmanuel.
The beauty of TE is, I doubt there is any genre he is not capable owning.
I've seem him play classical, all kinds of modern jazz, Gypsy jazz, flamenco, rock & roll, blues, ballads etc.
He has played along with a huge number of different artists aged from 8 to much older than himself and all of them he gave centre stage.
He loves his audience as much as they love him and it shows.
