- Yet another version of Classical Gas by Tommy. Found this on the internet recently. I'm guessing it was filmed early-mid 2002 at Sierra Nevada, Centre Stage.
Great version this, inluding segments of "Walk Don't Run" by The Ventures and "Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting)" by Elton John.

How could anyone possibly dislike the way this man plays ? The man is just incredible, there's no other way to describe it...totally amazing.
This video means so much to me. My grandfather introduced me to Tommy Emmanuel and showed me a few songs, including this video, and told me some of his history and what made him such an amazing fluent musician. My grandfather lived on the other side of the country so I hadn't seen him for a couple of years after that. When my dad told me he had passed away due to multiple brain tumors, I struggled for months wondering why dad never took me to see him when he was sick, I felt like I had been robbed of a final goodbye. Now looking back on it, my final memory was watching a passionate and gifted musician do what he loves. My grandfather played, my dad played, and I play, so he guess he left me with an inheritence that I will never squander.
Thank you Tommy, whenever I want to feel close to my late grandfather, I will always have this performance.

Tommy is the epitome of what EVERY acoustic guitarist hopes for. He is without doubt a grand master of the guitar. His joy in playing is inspirational. Roy Clark is another under-appreciated master. Thanks to them we have even more beauty in our lives
I play live fingerstyle acoustic regularly. Sometimes people ask me to play this. Watching this I have to laugh. Like giving a kid finger paints & saying here, do a Rembrandt.
I've always liked Classical Gas. I should learn this... well, maybe not this exactly, I couldn't do it justice. I like Tommy a lot though. I like when he put "Walk Don't Run" and "Saturday" in the middle. That's just fun stuff!
Mason Williams is the original..we all respect that..this is Tommy Emmanuel doing his version / interpretation,,and superb it is...lets be glad the music goes on....
He is just so ridiculously talented. Saw him the other night in Canberra and if anything he’s better than ever. Play forever Tommy!!1

Having the GREAT pleasure to be a part of the "Sierra Center Stage" crew, doing this series.... Tommy is with out a doubt, the greatest performer I have ever seen or worked with. Must have seen him perform about 20 times now... and never gets old!!!
Thats insane,should take me at least 20 years to emulate this guy,still its great to watch a talent like this,

Went and saw him live in Arkansas, the MC said" folks, if you play guitar, this show will make you want to do one of two things......either practice like mad, or burn your guitar when you get home. He was right, the performance was electric and riveting. Tommy is in a class by himself.
Been a musician for better than forty five and this stuns me everytime......I agree with the guy who said"there must be some magic in that old guitar"
@gangsterthomas1000 In an interview with Tommy I read that his goal is to entertain people, and that is exactly what he's doing. He makes it more theatrical so it's great to listen to and on top of that there is something to look at. That to me is the big difference between a musician and a performer. Tommy is a great artist and performer. Sometimes performing helps an artist to get more into the gig also.. .........................(just an opinion)

I've seen just about every great guitar player over the past 40 years (acoustic and electric) and I have never enjoyed or been more amazed by a guitarist that Tommy E. He just exudes fun, intensity and technical mastery. I actually saw him play Classical Gas in front of Mason Williams who wrote this song and he couldn't believe what he was seeing either! WOW, what a player.
was looking for this exact video for 3 YEARS NOW. It only appeared again today! I first saw this in 2008. I am bit ashamed to say I even have a downloaded mp3 of this video. For years it was the only thing I had relating to this video. And now, here it is again! WOOOOOOOO!!!

I think it's because what Tommy does is too hard for stupid people to appreciate. They would rather have a Beeber,Cyrus,Rhianna that they know they could emulate,cause,really,it takes no talent. To approach Tommy's level takes dedication and hard work,something those people can't comprehend.

When I used to work at a local guitar shop in Northern California, my boss put this on alot... No matter what day or time... The mood always changed when T.E was put on... Everyone went quiet and admired his talent. I always loved hearing his stuff. I had been playing for about 2 years at that time and this song always pumped me up to push myself more with the guitar. Tommy is on another level.
Everyone can see this and be impressed, even amazed. But the only person who can ever TRULY appreciate what this guy on guitar is the person who, at some point in life, picked up a guitar and thought, "Hmmm...I'd like to learn to play this..."

I've been able to play Classical Gas in the style of Mason Williams for over 10 years now -- but I wouldn't know WHERE to begin learning this version. Kudos!

Had the priviledge of watching Tommy live twice. Definately more than worth it; I'll take any chance to go watch him again for a 3rd time.
All the aficionados will cite others as being better but Tommy's the one you drop everything to watch.
Guitarists like Tommy Emmanuel are not given the respect they deserve simply because of the mindset of the listener who thinks the original artist is the best...I love the innovative style of this guy.

He does, but having met him in person (and had the honor of jamming with him many years ago) I can tell you he is one of the humblest musicians you will ever meet.
If I even attempted this, even if I learned guitar for the next 15 years, I doubt that I could get this close to his awesomeness...

My wife and I saw Tommy at the Liverpool Philharmonic on 4th Dec 2011.
He's the most fantastic guitarist we have ever seen.
