Why not wait for the Peugeot GTI for this comparison? This way, it will be fair for all 3 cars. You make it look like the Peugeot lost here, but this is not true!
Golf slow steering ratio makes this car horrible to drive although it has a nice chassis. Maybe it is faster than the Alfa when you drive it on the edge, however the everyday feel is on a different level. Compared to Giulietta it feels like you race a dead pig. Golf is a benchmark only in sales, that should be said.
You can't compare this Peugeot 308 GT when there is a proper GTI coming out soon with the 270bhp RCZ R engine in it. Peugeot are also producing a 493bhp hybrid version of the 308 with 3 engines 😏
+rui518 A long time ago: 206cc was a prototype ... Peugeot did. RCZ was a prototype ...Peugeot did. For the 308 R hybrid, Peugeot is currently studying automotive market to find interrested customers and especially at what price. The prototype is fully functional and can be produced as such. We will have the final answer when the "normal" 308 will be restyled. But one thing is sure, Peugeot wants to produce this 308, because Carlos Tavares (the boss) wants a radical sport in its range.
I honestly think you can't go wrong with either the Alfa or Golf. I owned a Giulietta QV some years back - I havent driven a Golf GTI yet, but do now own both an Audi S3 and a Skoda Octavia RS245 (which is effectively a heavier, less aggressive GTI). I dont think the Skoda is any quicker then the Giulietta was - they are pretty close. Giulietta felt a bit more aggressive uder acceleration, but the issue with that Alfa motor is that it has a very narrow bandwidth - it's got very noticable turbo lag down low and it dies of very quick in the top end, so it really only feels like it's pulling from 2,500 RPM to about 4,500 RPM, and outside of that band if feels like its doing nothing. This means you really need to change gear a lot. I had the manual and found it quite frustrating when navigating carparks or when going up steep hills because of that turbo lag requiring you to constantly drop a gear. The Skoda feels much more linear in it's power delivery - it pulls fairly strong even from 1800 RPM or so and right up to 6,000 RPM. To be fair though the Skoda is a DSG also, so that probably helps - if I bought the Giulietta again I would probably get it in TCT mode because it would be more drivable in those low speed / high incline type scenarios. And it's a shame to say that because the Giulietta manual actually is really nice - quick, short throw shift and very precise. The clutch is a bit touchy/sensitive though and can take a lot of getting used to, especially for hill starts, etc. As far as handling goes I thing the Skoda is more stable in high speed bends, which seemed to be the weakness of the Giulietta (it would feel a but unstable in the rear end at times). With some light damper/suspenson mods and the TCT gearbox I could imagine the Giulietta being a pretty fantastic little thing to drive...and to be fair the Skoda I'm comparing it against is a 2019 model, so abou 5 years newere then my Giulietta was. One thing that the Giulietta did impress with was refinement. You dont really expect to hear this about an alfa, but it was actually a very solid feeling car. Very smooth, quiet and refined and it was pretty good over bumps too. I think it was just as smooth and refined in every way as the Skoda, though the Skoda does have some better build quality and material quality - albeit the difference isn't as great as some reviewers would like to have you believe. The S3 is obviously a big step up in quality and performance, but I won't even compare that because it's obviously a totally different class of car.
vvw golf gti : 220hp 33750€pug 308 gt : 205hp 30850€a giulietta qv : 240hp 34600€Considering price and equipment and timelap, the golf definitely lost. Save money take the pug, or pay for the winner : alpha.

So the alfa wins the lap tests...then the looks, power, noise, design,....what did the golf win....nothing......yet it placed first! The "decision" is frankly rubbish. I've a 2018 Giulietta Supersport in misano blue and a bmw 220 msport coupe in estoril blue...yeh i love blue...but i love cars that perform/drive/grab your heart/are exclusive blue......they are both diesel...but they absolutely fly with massive torque.......i pick one each morning.....no favourite....but no golf gti.....because gti is too generic, bland, lacking design or flair...yes its got a good engine but the rest is....yawn....and predictable. And i did have a passat 2.0t petrol turbo sport 197bhp 2006 that i loved...but it never pretended to be a great car but it was..... a wolf in sheep's clothing....golf.....blah! Buy a bmw 2 coupe for handling but love a giulietta for being that bit different with handling ....and fun....and makes u smile on the inside....and misano blue is just a great colour, dark alloys, red spiltter, super stereo, the cockpit.....be yourself and get one....who cares. BTW the 220d coupe is a complete cracker too. Grin........
Sure, the Volkswagen might be the cleanest of all these three. But that's the exactly the problem with it. It's too clean. Plus the driving assist can't be turned off to 100% like with the Alfa Romeo, Renault Sport, Peugeot, DS or Ford which is very sad. It's too smooth, there's almost no resistance you have to fight against, and that's the most fun part when driving a sports car. To tame the beast💯 While the Volkswagen is the cleanest, The Peugeot is the most nostalgic, The Alfa Romeo is as always the most emotional though. So everything is as it should be.
Very vw biased, vw are not the car brand they used to be!! They have become very unreliable in recent years. And you cannot compare the golf and the Peugeot when the golf has a much bigger engine, wait until the 308 GTi comes out and compare them. And in my opinion the golf is the most bland of the 3. It also has the worst quality interior of the three! I would take the pug over them all any day.
I have heard nothing but bad reports about new vw models in Ireland, I have owned 2 new 2012-2013 passats/ and a golf and had problems with all in the first 5months only one problem was covered under warranty, so I would not be recommending!... And lots of bad reports on car buyer websites etc..
+MrThePrivateer it's pretty well known by now that VW are chronically unreliable. look good when new but fall apart rapidly and expensive and difficult to repair.
MrThePrivateer That is just not true. The First Generation Touareg is one of the worst cars ever built. Every part can fail at any minute. Every single variation of the Passat is ticking time bomb. My friends 99 Passat has a new problem every week and he does all the servicing himself. Literally every part is prone to failure. My 1998 Alfa 156 V6 literally runs faultlessly in comparison and that is an Alfa FFS. My Subaru is utterly bulletproof. Our Landcruiser is nigh on indestructible. 2 of my friends had Gold Mk4s as their first cars in college. Again, every week they had new problems. My dads brand new Mk2 Golf used to regularly implode and he promptly sold it. Not one of those cars I have mentioned was "improperly" serviced. VWs are soft cars made from fragile components. Audis are more premium and even more fragile. Most VW owners seem to keep buying them despite unreliability. Cult of VW. I think people who have never owned anything else genuinely think that they are as good as any car when in reality they break constantly.
+MrThePrivateer the 2 wv's I owned got serviced by the main dealer every time it needed it and in some cases before it needed it as I thought it might make it a little more reliable but the engine was not the problem I only had one engine fault in my Passat and that was it! The engines are not to bad it's the electrics that seem to be the problem. I have rid of my vws and bought a 308 gt and find it a lot better. My neighbour bought a golf a few months ago and asked me why I had changed it after only 9 months. When I told him why I had changed it he told me he had lots of problems too, so defiantly not just my vw's. However I don't know about the golf gti etc as I don't know anyone who has new ones! The old golf was such a good car, it's a pity vw have let us all down!!
They have not given a single reason why the GTI should win except it is more spacious in the back. And yet it wins? Like wtf mate you are on some good drugs
MK7 GTI
Tambem o alfa romeo usa um Motor 1.7 Turbo com 241cv e ja esta no limite e n teria como chipar e se chipasse iria pra 250-265cv! o Golf tem um Motor 2.0 Turbo com "220" cv (240-260) que c chipar vai pra 300+!!

Calam Stuart hybrid R is just a concept/prototype right?
+rui518 Yes, but it will be produced in limited series! ^^
DurianObried
really? were did you ear that? lets be honest Peugeot don't usually make prototypes...
DurianObried
you could be right, Tavares wants a lot of things and he has vision but the board needs to back him...
I meant TCT gearbox!
the tamed racing driver part was hilarious, good job.
whats a kilowatt?
Golf looks very dated in terms of design :) Germans have never been much of a designers.
Fun fact, it was an italian that designed the original golf.
308 GTI?
+Manuel Camenzuli - the GTI wasn't available when we shot this. Stay tuned for a rematch - of sorts - coming soon!
I own a qv as well,we are now friends..
What's the song playing at the start and end of the video?
The alfa for me, I can agree on the steering wheel but fortunately you can replace it
The Volvo V40 T5 R-design is another alternative. The handling is not as good as the GTI but still fun to drive.
vvw golf gti : 220hp 33750€pug 308 gt : 205hp 30850€a giulietta qv : 240hp 34600€Considering price and equipment and timelap, the golf definitely lost. Save money take the pug, or pay for the winner : alpha.
so why make a comparison if the golf gti wins as always because arguably its the best for every day drive.
Alfa ❤
I would buy a golf but they're too common now, same as the fiestas. I've drove quite a few cars in my little time driving and the one that stood out to me the most was a alfa 159 even though it was 12 years old it drove flawlessly for it's size and weight, the only other car I'd say handled better was a mk7.5 fiesta, but that was practically brand new.
My next car will defiently be the giulietta 1750 tbi
Renault megane RS???
+alan jackson - shall we count its doors together? ;)
Guys were raving about the Alfa and how its the quickest and best looking and sounding then go with the Golf ??!
Alfa every time. 5 years in a 159 12months now in a phase 2 guilietta gv. Will never own another non alfa again. Alfisti forever
i think its time to compare golf gti to the real 308 gti isnt?
Good thinking ;-)
Why wouldn't you have reviewed the 308 GTI?
It wasn’t released when the video was made.
Golf allways wins. The best.
The 308 has got a gti version. This would have been the true match. And the 308 gti would have murder this vw
Grin........
volkswagen Golf number one the quality has no comparison with the peugeot and alfa romeo
To tame the beast💯
While the Volkswagen is the cleanest,
The Peugeot is the most nostalgic,
The Alfa Romeo is as always the most emotional though.
So everything is as it should be.
ops, giulietta wins...
That's good imm glad for you, many years of happy safe motoring!
The old golf was such a good car, it's a pity vw have let us all down!!
what about mazda 3?
+mystical902 - No sports version.
There's the Mazda 3 MPS, at least in Europe... don't know if available in all the countries, though...
They have not given a single reason why the GTI should win except it is more spacious in the back. And yet it wins? Like wtf mate you are on some good drugs
OK so alfa looks the best, sounds the best, it is fastest. why golf is the winner?
Still taking la Giulietta everyday.
golf is just boring to look at... you see them everywhere
I love these vidoes, alfa win all.. lets go golf...giuetlla qv wins it
How did the Golf win when it wasn't the fastest, it had fewer options and didn't sound as good as the Alfa...
I am a bit disappointed with Alfa time, should be much quicker than Golf GTi.
so how the golf won?!
Alfa 👍
Alfa Romeo is the best!
Just smoked the Alfa in me GTI. It is stage 1 though😄😄
Giulietta wins.
alfa all week, at least it looks interesting
Na Dúvida, Acelera! MK7 GTI TSI Sector me impressionei com a Giulietta galera, deem uma olhada!
Bala TFSI
Where is the 308 GTI?????It is not a good comparison
+Reeko1980 It was only recently released. It wasn't around last year.
FUCK VW! ALFA RULEZ! #forza
VW best car in Europe fuck Alfa !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if you review cars, you SHOULD know that ALL modern cars have adjustable steering wheels. You can move it up, down, in and out! wtf?
Sadly Philip, not all cars do which is why we need to make a note of it.
VW GTI what a boring car, still the typical Golf drivers will love it! its part of the uniform.
Lol. No reversing camera. If anyone driving a hatchback needs cameras - they need to be removed from the road as they are clearly crap at driving. Hatchbacks do NOT need cameras as they are tiny cars.
The Alfa is the best in styling including the engine's chrome but the Golf is the best in everything else!
