    We lived in an Arch A Frame. Think like an upside down boat. One possible idea for you. If you are going to redo your “roof”, think about popping out the kitchen. It will square out the kitchen and by doing that you could work in your dishwasher!!
    Isn’t it heart stopping when the snow slides!! 😂

    I feel you have to live in a space for a while until things fall into place. Usually 3-5 years.
    I have renovated multiple small homes and currently live in a 500sqft converted garage that I gutted and redesigned.
    Here are my recommendations.
    Buy 24” appliances, 18” dishwasher or install a dishwasher drawer, can be pricy but worth it. I put 18” dishwashers in all my properties.
    Replace hot water tank with tankless and put in laundry room.
    Keep laundry room and turn into pantry storage and add a window and perhaps buy a small upright freezer is nice to have.
    Convert downstairs bedroom into office space and move upstairs until you build your office shed.
    When replacing your roof, keep existing one and sheath it with metal, definitely cut in sky lights.
    Before you start any projects I would definitely work on what brings you in income first like building RV hook ups for tinies.
    Place looks awesome, don’t be in a rush, best of luck to you both, can’t wait to see the progress.

      Fantastic recommendations; thank you!! We were thinking of adding insulation on top of existing roof then the metal-seems like it wouldn’t hurt. I think you’re so right about needing a generous amount of time in your home before diving into big changes. 😊 Definitely curious to see your garage conversion! I like A frames, might consider that the extra upstairs bedroom is actually helping your heat to be more easily regulated just by how much heat you alow upstairs. It is really practical, and allows an extra room for office or creative space. looks like an enjoyable space.😊 sounds like you two are having fun figuring it out.

      Had to watch(parts) twice, just to observe and see it all! I'm so glad you A, C, got this plot of land! You are super creative and resourceful, that I am sure you would come up with a solution. My option would be to add a 2nd A-frame perpendicular to the bedroom/living wall and put the w/d in it/ mudroom entrance. Then have the office above that space. Great ad A, as usual a good sales person 😁.
      🥶🖤👍🏻👍🏻🥰🥰

    I LOVE the A frame! Always have been a fan of them and actually have a couple family members who have built and lived in them for many years. One about the size you have and another about 3 times the size of your current! Best advice is to build for YOU as I am sure is no surprise and what you do! Best is to think about your future in the plan. Do you plan to stay in that house forever? Live your life in the NOW but in the future can you adjust anything so their are no stairs to climb other than on occasion? Apparently there is a downstairs bedroom now that can become one again. I think your laundry/mud room is a must! Rebuild it properly. Bring it up to that window. Regardless I love it they way it is honestly. Just give your future a little thought and what will make sense now also!

    • @TinyHouseExpedition
      @TinyHouseExpedition  Месяц назад +1

      It’s so cool what you can do with big A-frames! This is truly excellent advice. Longterm planning is absolutely the way to go. Really like your thinking about how the downstairs bedroom can always be used like that again, so would be worth thinking on keeping the wall up. Thank you very much! 🙏✨

    I think the house is perfect, I would live there and in that property happily. Here are a couple of tips: 1) I would not paint the living room walls in dark colors (green) because the limited amount of light you have. I would paint them white so that the light can bounce of the walls making it seem brighter. You have beautiful dark woods, let them be the focal point. 2) I would get rid of the big water heater and install an on-demand unit, they are way smaller and gives you room for some storage and saves you water.

    • @TinyHouseExpedition
      @TinyHouseExpedition  Месяц назад +1

    Nice fixer upper. I see lots of ideas of my own. The living area, I'd leave the floor joists exposed and paint or cover the ceiling in between a light color. Put a skylight/ window near the coat/ shoe area. Under the steps in the kitchen. I'd put a full length door where the spice rack is and make a pullout pantry behind it. If there's enough room to utilize it as such. Make the downstairs bedroom into an office area for both of you together. Put the washer/ dryer on the perhaps outside wall. In the same room. That would give you a larger deck area outside. Put the mini-split above it as it is now. Or put it in the master bedroom upstairs. If it's a dual zone type. You could do both bedroom and office/laundry room. I don't know how big the downstairs bedroom is. So that would be the deciding factor on that. Just ideas I thought I'd share with you. All and all, it's your baby. Be the creative couple that you are. Good luck, can't wait to see the dreams you have for it come true.

    I don't know how this took me so long to see/watch, but here I am! 😅 I loved finally getting to see where you've been emailing me from for all this time 😂.
    What a great tour and quirky home! I didn't realize that there were so many structures on the property. What a great buy! I, of course, have a million suggestions for everything, but it might be too many projects on top of what you already have planned.
    I will however suggest that if you do get rid of a bedroom, maybe it could be the downstairs one and you can rework that space ( and the laundry room into a kitchen/bathroom expansion and still have room to put Christian's office there as well 🤔.
    I'd need some some measurements and a floorplan, but there's lots that can be done with that cute house! Also, I'm personally a fan of keeping the floor above the living room open and just painting/insulating the ceiling and staining the beams rather than closing it in with sheetrock.
    Just some food for thought. Thanks for sharing!❤

    You asked for ideas. 🙂 I would break down the wall between the linving space and the ds bedroom. That way you get more light and a spacious living room where you can create a dining/working (Alexis) area. In the future you could break down the add on and make a sun room at the back. Great for passive warmth in the winter, plus you can use it as a mud room or build out the kitchen.

    I think if you paint the plywood black and leave the 1x4s natural wood, the contrast would look very nice and the black plywood will disappear if you paint it matte black.
    Just an opinion 😊

    Here's a suggestion purchase a portable saw Mill and Mill your own wood or purchased whole trees and cut and dry it yourself there should be considerable savings in lumber and you can sell any excess lumber you don't need

      Yes!! We would very much like to get a portable saw mill; had to cut down a couple trees last fall that are just waiting to be put to use 😁

    I was a little girl when I discovered A-frames, as well! I love the snuggly feeling of the wood and rafters, but skylights will be a great addition. The propane lr stove looks wonderful. Maybe your new stove/oven could make use of that. The woven baskets really match the aesthetic. So sorry to hear about Winnie😢. I might make the upstairs bedroom office a nice sitting/reading/meditating area for you both. Thanks for the tour!❤

    I like A-frame camps, but never wanted to live in one full time. But your A-frame is wonderful. I think part of what makes the homestead so usable is how many outbuildings are used for things that most people shove into their houses. And I love that you hated that half-moon builders’ special door! When rebuilding my house after a flood, my contractor saw the look on my face and asked what was wrong.
    Me: That door. I hate the door the last contractor installed.
    Contractor: Not a problem! I know what you like now. I’ll be back in a bit.
    Later: A gorgeous half window/half panel door appeared. The half window has four glass panels that let in tons of light and are definitely not builders’ special. 😊

    Love how you’ve made your A-frame cozy. It definitely feels like home. It’s exciting to dream about all the renovations and improvements. I look forward to seeing it all come together. Not sure the kitchen sink space is large (wide) enough…but that sink that has the dishwasher space included would be awesome. I wanna say it’s by Fotile or something similar. I’ve got it pinned. 😇 I’m so sorry to hear that Winnie passed. She was such a cutie. Love and hugs. 🥰🥰

    LUV IT!!
    Perfect land, A frame home & all the buildings!
    The quaintness of the A style shouldn’t be ignored but embraced. I’m torn with keeping the liv rm ceiling and the bedroom vs vaulting it up like they were designed. And a wall of glass if it will benefit you with natural heat and light. We can see the view there! 💯
    What direction will that wall face, south 🙏🏻?
    I like the idea of bumping out the kitchen but that’s quite a bit of $$ and I’m not sure of bumping out the roof line. They look kinda weird imo when you change the outside structure lines.
    Do you plan on having many family gatherings/sleepovers? Having that extra bedroom comes in handy. But if it’s 10% of the time I would consider removing a guest bedroom.
    And I truly LUV the idea of adding a few tiny rentals! I’ve never been to PNW but I have some family out there that have invited me out!
    I know I luv the THOW I just got and look forward to at least a couple moves! Blessings to you both! {{HUGS}} & 🙏🏻 for the loss of your pup. 🌲🏡🌲

    • @TinyHouseExpedition
      @TinyHouseExpedition  Месяц назад +1

      Thank you so much! Excellent feedback. It is important to think big picture about how much the room gets utilized for guests. 🤔 We’re torn on the living room ceiling too! Maybe getting a contractor or structural engineer out here at some point to take a look and get an estimate of cost would help us decide. We absolutely want to get a metal roof with more insurance & add skylights throughout, but that will definitely require a chunk of change 😅

    • @RockchikPaula

    I always loved Frames. Lived in one (rental) in Georgia, near a town called Harlem while I was stationed at Fort Gordon, GA (Army School).
    Anyway, I'm wondering how the validity of Tiny homes as a core of your future videos will feel authentic. Would you now consider going to small homes too? You now live in 850SF, which is greater than the sub 400 SF of some larger tiny homes. Maybe 850 SF and Below?

    • @TinyHouseExpedition
      @TinyHouseExpedition  Месяц назад +2

      That’s so great! We are interested in filming more small space homes but will continue to focus on tiny houses.
      The validity of our tiny home videos is not an issue from our perspective. We built one, lived in it for almost 7 years, traveled the country numerous times with it, actively advocate for legal acceptance as part of the Tiny Home Industry Association, advocate locally, are creating a mini tiny home community-among other things including converting a shuttle bus into a camper. 😅 Suffice to say we have been immersed in the tiny world for over a decade and continue to support & participate it, even if not living tiny full-time. 🙂🍻
