Ultra Affordable DIY Tiny Home is Music To My Ears!

- This is a tiny house story which is close to my heart, largely because Chris’ journey into tiny house living closely mirrors my own. The amazing tiny home that he has constructed has given this talented musician a wonderful roof over his head which allows him to now focus his time on creating his music.
Music is more than just a job for Chris. It’s a passion and a calling in life. But as many artists will testify, it’s not always the most reliable way of making money and getting materially ahead in life.
Thankfully, this hard-working and creative soul thought outside the box, picked up a hammer and set about constructing his own tiny house. Built ultra affordably using predominantly reclaimed materials, Chris was able to put a secure roof over his head for an astoundingly low figure.
Now with his home complete and parked up in a great spot where he able to grow lots of his own food and live affordably, Chris can now focus his attention towards creating his music without the pressure of finding rent each week.
We hope you enjoy the full tour of this amazing tiny house. To follow Chris and his musical tiny house adventures, you can find him across all social media here: linktr.ee/carouseofficial, Instagram: / carouseofficial , TikTok: / carouseofficial & RUclips: / @carouseofficial

Chris’ story reminds me so much of my own journey into tiny house living. That he constructed this home entirely himself and from reclaimed materials makes it even better! - If you enjoy our videos and would like to support this channel, you can find us on Patreon: www.patreon.com/livingbig - With Love, Bryce & Rasa
Yes, I was kinda hoping for a bit of a jamb session at the end! Either way great video again... this one struck home though it was just so real.
@Living BIG in A Tiny House
Tiny 🏡 houselove!! Love, love love. The 🎶🎶music, the💕💕💕love and pride in ownership. How the 🌌 Universe conspired to connect him with everything. From the parking spot to the materials. OMG the timber used is truly magnificent, so rich, so warm and just perfect for his vision. Those floors have me swooning. Never heard of "Remu" before your show Bryce. It must be a local wood that we don't have here in the States, but I love how buttery brown it is. I think with the yellow undertones it makes the brown have a richness it would lack if it had red undertones.
The Universe 🌌 did some other conspiring tonight to bring me to this video. Like taking all the synchronicities that has happened for me this week and then wrapped this up with them at the end in a nice little gift. When it popped in my feed I first saw the wood in the thumbnail, realized it was you and Rasa, that it was a 🎶 🎶 musician (tying this to the 🎶music and musicians) of this incredible week of healing and growth....I couldn't help but click, and as always, you two never faill in the content you bring, making me inspired and grateful. Namaste 🙏
Awesome
Very nice ❤
Very cool house ❤
This is the kind of tiny house video I find the most inspiring. He built it himself with reclaimed materials. He learned as he was going and put so much of himself into every detail. I love the way it worked out for him.
I wish there were more nice and positive people like Chris in this world. His home is nice but he is the real inspiration in this video. Making due with what he has while carving his way forward. Truly a one-of-a-kind human being and the world needs a lot more people like Chris.
Thank you for the inspiring video.
My parents said tiny homes are for underachievers..
@@grilleFire you parents seem "lovely"
Greg, many thanks for your positive comment! It’s been remarkable reading the bursting positivity from comments worldwide. I did it & I believe everyone can with dedication & determination! Much love from NZ.
@@grilleFire I hope you didn't listen to them. 🙃
I loved that turn of phrase " carving his way forward" - so well said
$22k is jaw-dropping! Love that the materials were not only reclaimed, but incorporated with such love and artistry.❤The curved counters and shelf are especially lovely!
$37,000 in his country. $22,000 US dollars.
He seem genuinely happy with his space, well done!
His child-like excitement is wonderful!
@@blahblah4129 yes… what a cool guy… he’s very grateful and quite intentional in creating a lovely home while considering his impact on the environment. Beautiful.
As we all should be 😊
Looks like he's kept it real for this video. A home as lovely as it's owner.
Amazing gentleman
Now that is in the true spirit of a Tiny Home. I much prefer it to some of the albeit very beautiful ones that are basically a downsized version of a regular home. Good on him.
Neat
The fact that Chris used reclaimed materials is what warms the house and gives it such a charming aesthetic. The old growth trees are so rarely seen anymore, and yet he has been able to showcase them by reclaiming used wood. Having your own business (which I did for twenty years into early retirement) is very freeing, and he has freed himself with this tiny home. $22,000 USD is an amazing result. Stunning, actually. This video was so happy and warm despite the cold weather they had going on. Chris's upbeat, can-do attitude and his guitar skills brought an extra element into the video that I really enjoyed. God bless you, Chris, and thank you, Bryce and Rasa for choosing this build to showcase!
This episode was my favorite. This man’s creative heart and soul and inner joy radiated beyond the screen. The courage to take on his dream never having built before, combined with his gorgeous taste and style with the gorgeous woods and his wise practicality in seeking recycled materials, demonstrates such verve and creativity. I only wish that he had been given a minute or two to really sing for us with his guitar. Thank you for utter inspiration.
This made me want to start building my own place sooooo bad … What a nice chap.
This guy wins Tiny House! He is the epitome of how it's supposed to be done. Well done champion!
very good on the price... he is right where the universe wants him ,,everything just fell perfectly in his lap
I miss those type of videos. DIY, reclaimed elements, truly low cost and creative builds.
Bryce, Thank you Soooooo much for showing these types of episodes. They are not just about tiny "Houses", but about people with inspiring dreams who make these places "HOMES" and help make their dreams come true. Which are Priceless! Thank you again!
I really like the music he was playing at the end.
I have to say that the tiny houses built by people with very low budget are always the most inspiring : you have to be very daring yet mindful AND creative when you are broke ! Moreover, these people always have a human warmth, a spirit that always touches me. Something very authentic, in short ! Just like their home :)
Chris's house is so inviting. Bravo and thank you for sharing this beautiful story
Very true😊
I LOVE the staircase in the corner - feels so safe and hidden.
What a lovely guy! He is happy and that all matters!
Wonderful accomplishment, and artist! Nag Champa incense in abundance. Keep meditating. I still use it after 51 years of meditation practice. I'm age 80, healthy and happy. Meditation works indeed. Blessings to all.
A very cute tiny and Chris nailed his t-shirt choice, classic! ❤😄
Love to see a more rustic tiny home instead of the ones many can’t afford.
Me too!
A lot of tiny houses look like an extended piece of IKEA furniture.
But this looks so warm and original. That is art!
This is what a tiny house should look and feel like, not a condensed overprice version of a bigger house. I absolutely love everything about this home and homeowner
No need to be a "starving artist." What an inspiring build!
A beautiful home for beautiful music. Thanks Bryce and Rasa
Thanks Andy!
What an inspirational guy! Sometimes I feel like the tiny house movement has gotten too far away from its roots of simplicity, minimal footprint on the earth and self-sufficiency with the "mega" tiny houses and the super-luxury tiny houses...
Chris' accomplishments in building his lovely space with his own hands and brain and creativity (as he so aptly said) reminds us that the foundational values of tiny house living still exist -- and so successfully, too!
To be happy and content is what people want in life and he’s achieved it!!☺️
His enthusiasm for his house is amazing love it such an amazing space and a creative spirit
Yes…the world needs more people with his type of “energy”.. his positive attitude is beautiful
This is a wonderful story of Chris' talent, hard work and the generous support of the landowner where Chris is parked.
THANK YOU for using REAL furniture pieces! I get so tired of all that plywood - I don't care if it's "cheap & practical." It's still plywood. This is gorgeous!
What a unique, handsome, intelligent man! His tiny is full of surprises everywhere. So very nice!
Was lovely to see your genuine appreciation for all the quirky and inspirational elements in Chris' wonderful home. I love the warm and creative aesthetic and Chris is a gem . Ask and you shall receive - his story of acquiring materials and land is what I enjoyed the most . ❤
The house he referenced as an inspiration is one of my favorites too: "Super Affordable Off-Grid Tiny House Built With Old Fence Palings." Such a great layout!
Thank you for sharing it! I couldn't quite hear!
Exactly, it is one of my favorit layouts too!
Especially the bathroom! Never understood why so many people are wasting so much place in their tiny house for a big bathroom, a space you use just a couple of minutes per day!

I love seeing tiny homes like this. So cozy and actually looks like a real home that is lived in. Well done Chris. You're truly living the dream.
❤
The exterior is beautiful and the interior is pretty quirky. But you can't make fun of people who choose to live in a tiny house, because us tiny house people are very intelligent like this man here.❤
He really scored big time on that old native wood. It gives a lot of character to his tiny home. I also love the copper pot lamp. I have a copper strainer that I want to make a lamp out of now lol he did a lot with such a small budget too!
I always find these DIY projects made with love are so much better than people with big budgets, some fancy architect and expensive piece of land. When its reclaimed materials and made with love, theres something so special about the project. Someone living within their means, it might not be perfect and polished, but to me thats what tiny houses were all about when this movement started. Not these 100K plus soulless modern kit home looking things, but each to their own of course
To take on a project like that being a first timer is certainly commendable. Love what Chris did - very comfortable and homey and its his. Kudos!
Back to basics👍 After a lot of perfect and professional built homes( which are often beautiful- don't get me wrong) it is very nice to see someone who did it all by himself with materials he looked for everywhere. This is how the tiny house movement started.😊And His home turned out so well. Like it 👍👍👍
My goodness Bryce..almost 5,000 views in 30 minutes.. your channel is so awesome.
Wow, amazing what we humans can create when we really want something. It’s like he manifested this whole home. 😊
I find I really like the homes that were built with reclaimed materials much more to my liking. His house has so much character and all that gorgeous woodwork ❤
This tiny here, IMO, is the way the tiny movement started. Using the reclaimed materials doing it yourself, keeping the cost at such a super savings!! WOW, all that beauty for such a fantastic price tag!! A home to be very Proud of to be sure!! It's truly a beautiful home Chris!! ✌️❤️
The look of pure happiness on this guy's face. May we all strive to be as happy with our homes and lifestyles as he is
Lovely home built by this man. He should be proud of what he has built for himself. Awesome human being. Wishing him continued happiness in all he does.❤
Living the ordinary life in an extraordinary way. Artists are lovely people. Loving it.❤
The most beautiful part about this video is Chris. What a lovely human being and what an amazing achievement. He seems genuinely happy and that’s all that counts. He has built and created a wonderful place for himself. He can and should be proud!
I LOVE this guys core values and how he's living his life. This home is so true to the spirit that birthed the ... TINY HOUSE MOVEMENT.
I love this home. Tiny living as it was used to be long time ago. No luxury and no phrases like "big fridge, dish washer...no compromise to that!". He is really living a simple live. ,👍
This home has the tiny house spirit and soul that now so often is missing. Absolutely wonderful, well done Chris!
The tiny homes made from reclaimed/recycled materials are the best tiny homes. Can't beat their charm!
"A labor of love" can definitely be felt here !
Christchurch, NZ seems to host many wonderful tiny homes. 🏡
These are the tiny houses that I really love - full of gorgeous reclaimed materials, creativity and imagination. Each one is filled with personality, charm and love. So beautiful.
Genuinely love the layout and wood working on this one. Perfect size for a cozy atmosphere and great acoustics too! What a wonderful artist and home :)
So so cool one thing I dislike about so many tiny home vids is how unrealistically clean they look. This actually looks lived in and a home. Can see all the energy he put into his home and he has a lot to be proud of.
Such a sweet man in his lovely home. He should be genuinely proud of this accomplishment. I love that he saved the edge of the work surface by cutting a slot into the door jamb. I hope his musical career gives him success ❤.
I totally agree. Building your own space is really an achievement. I built my own studio in lockdown and building something that so much bigger than you, to your own design, breaking down the big problems and reducing it down into small projects. It’s just a great achievement. And even if you sell having done it can’t be taken away from you.
Probably one of the best videos ever in this channel, with the music, the ambience Chris has created around his home. Great work
This is the type of tiny home I admire the most, recycled materials, self built and lower budget. Beautiful
I officially dub this the "Tasteful Man cave tiny house"!! Well done! The money Chris saved, with recyled materials! 😳 And the US price...unheard of here!! I'm just green with jealousy, this is the kind of place my husband and I would feel at home in!! Warm regards, Northern Michigan USA 😁
This house is like a lovely patchwork and feels so warm and Chris seems a wonderful guy.
These are the stories & videos I’m here for. The AirBnB’s are cool to look at & definitely provide great ideas, but these videos are the ones that make it really feel like anyone can do this. Especially in today’s housing market, to build a house for less than half an average annual salary, this is a story that could change a lot of lives
I love that Chris was inspired to build this home-despite not having previous building experience. But what I loved most was the absolute joy in his voice and expression as he talked about having built his own home and how much he enjoys living there. Another great episode! I'm more inspired than ever to go tiny.
I love that he did this. It just goes to show, your home does not have to be showroom perfect, , just a safe, warm comfortable place to live. I’m glad he’s happy with it. Well done! ❤
I can relate to this guy, in times of hardship you have to resource and make the most of what you have in life. This vid is pure inspiration dude.
I love it when you showcase these DIY recycled material tiny homes, they always seem to be more my style and very homely, most of the commercially built tiny homes lack the charm of homes like the one featured here, and the old timber makes the interior look like it's 50 years old like a classic home, Chris seems a wonderful person too and I love what he's done here with his tiny home.
❤️😍❤️😍🥴 spotted
He has freedom, power of choice and happiness. 💖
Now listening to Chris (Carouse) on Apple Music - wow! Love his music! Would be cool to hear Chris and Bryce collaborate 🌟!
I like seeing this tiny house so much, it harkens back to the old days when so many of them were done like this, on a budget, totally unique, made by the owner and absolutely beautiful ❤
It's such a story being unfolded 🙂🙂
He creates, his own songs, inside a house of his own creation. Wonderful, a truly great role model.
Yes I agree… it’s comforting to know there really are some good, kind, respectful and sweet in this angry world. This video made my evening….he is a gem and his home is as unique and lovely as he…♥
I do not want to read yet the other comments , til I express my feelings about this home and his owner .... I got a very cozzy feeling of peace and joy , to watch a simple , but joyful guy having fun on his own creating his arthome and music ... This is more than enough for me ... And makes me happy , beside the architectural resolutions ... I am an architect and value good solutions ... In this case the amalgam of owner and product , is the best of all I have seen . Chris is a very special guy !
nice camera work and editing, love the bicycle scene, captures everything this tiny house is about
When I saw his T-shirt I knew I would love him! What an amazing young man who should be very proud of his accomplishments 🙏❤️🌺
Love how happy and proud Chris is. Lovely home. Cosy. And the price! Unbeatable.
So creative. For someone new to design, Chris did a wonderful job!
This man is showing us all how to live the dream!
Chris is so creative and sympathetic, a beautiful human being in a stunning space and place. Thank you for sharing!
Fabulous! I adore this warm, charming, cozy space, and the fact that so many of the building materials were reclaimed/recycled. Extra marks for photographing with "magic hour" exterior light. This one is what tiny house living is truly about, IMO.
He was inspired and now he’s inspiring others! ❤
Lovely home, Chris! Lovely feature as always, Rasa and Bryce. 🥰
Thank you!
Chris's Tiny house is very cosy and lived in. I like the rustic look and the mish mash of Chris's belongings on display throughout the house. This house is so full of love and Chris must have some lovely evenings when writing his music and have that beautiful scenery surround his house. This house is much better than the 'showhome' type of houses usually featured on Living big in a tiny house. and many of the other Tiny house videos.
Now there is a happy man with a vision, one of practicality and common sense...did I mention what a lucky man as well to have crafted his dream life...a beautiful human being...!
I love the warm, homey feeling of this house. The shape of the exterior is unusually attractive. So cool that he could do all this with recycled materials.
This is so warm and beautiful, the fact that he was inpsired by creating a pedal board and this channel is pretty rad. I recognize all his incense too, my faves as well! This is more what I envision when I imagine myself in a tinyhouse. Something with character, rustic and warm, how it works specifically for him with all his decorative touches. Great video! He seems like such a sweet creative guy.
This video brought such a smile to my face…lovely home…friendly and very interesting guy. He would be a cool neighbor. That he created this warm cozy home completely with repurposed materials is commendable…clearly he respects this earth ♥🙌
I love how everything has been recycled. A lovely cozy, interesting home. 💕
Such an inspiring man. He is creative in every way possible. Everything fell into place for him and I think his positive attitude to living made that happen. It reminds me what is possible. Thank you for this one ps that cat door needs a furry room mate 😁🥰
I'm only 2 minutes into the video and I already have a big smile on my face! His energy is amazing.
i love this guy and his home! The tiny house that originally inspired him is one of my all-time favorites, and I can see where he's used some of those great ideas, too. His entire home, and everything on the grounds, is just absolutely wonderful! I'm happy for him, and I wish him the best. 🙂
Fall in love-episode! With the lifestyle... the episode... the channel.... gorgeous Bryce... this cool sympathetic dude... art and life! 🌸🍀🌸❤️🔥🌸
I love these videos and seeing especially the people that have built their house with her own hands and the joy and sense of accomplishment that radiates when they talk about it, brings me so much joy makes me smile. I love living big in a tiny house.
Love this cozy space! I think that is the dream for a lot of us: to build a tiny home from reclaimed materials crafted into wonderful furnishings. Also, love that last shot of the little house & green house glowing light in the night.
This tiny house looks like someone really lives a good life there! I love all the reclaimed material! Aspirational for sure! Wishing you many good days and years, Chris!
What I really loved about this video was that it proved you can build these houses in NZ for a reasonable amount of money. Prefab tiny homes here don't sell for less than $100,000. It made the option of even owning a tiny home here seem unobtainable. My husband and I are thinking about building a shipping container home ourselves. I just found this so inspiring and hopeful. I'm from North America and I feel like I have to choose saving up for a house or saving up for flights home to see family, both didn't seem possible. This gives me hope.
Kudos to Chris for this amazing achievement and hats off to you Bryce for inspiring yet another individual to build their own 'tiny'. And... nearly 4.5M subs now - You and Rasa should pat yourselves on the back!
I don't know if I've ever seen anyone as down to earth as Chris. Well done in what is an amazing and truly inspiring Tiny Home build.
I just came from a video with ultra expensive tiny lifestyle. Thank goodness this came up my feed.
Finally a home that actually looks lived in ❤ and not the usual super curated minimalist look . .
This musical. Background makes everything nice
My favourite tiny house ever - love the aesthetic and the fact that it's all made from reclaimed materials makes it even better. And it even has a greenhouse!!! Thank you so much for sharing your home with us.
Definitely my favourite video so far. Love how he got his inspiration and all the work he put in, true labour of ❤❤❤❤
Thanks Brice for doing this channel. So excited for the day I can build my own 😊
