I'm 40. Most black people I know my age our parents were born in the islands. Even people my age were. Some africans too but mostly west indian/carribean. Immigration in Toronto started in the 70's big time. My generation are the first born here. My kids 2nd. Reggae arguably is just as big here as hip hop. In early hip hop you here reggae music from rappers in New york because they had Immigration in the 80s. If you go back to early hip hop from Toronto it sounds like new York hip hop/rap. Only lake ontario separates the two cities. I heard new york rap before west coast. Shout out Detroit too again not that far.
