  • In this VladTV exclusive, Canadian Reggae musician, rapper and singer Snow sat down with DJ Vlad and detailed his life and career. He talked about being born and raised in Toronto before beating two attempted murder charges. After dodging major prison time, Snow explained how he got into music and attended Reggae house parties. After recording "Informer," which would go on to become the biggest-selling Reggae song of all time, he had to witness the record's success from prison. Snow went on to discuss recording his first and second albums, as well as the issues and lawsuits he was faced with after his success. He also detailed his partnerships and collaborations with brands and artists, such as Yahoo!, Scott Storch, Cool N' Dre, and Daddy Yankee. To hear more, check out the full interview.

    One thing about us Jamaicans. We love when people from other cultures embrace our culture. We don't care if you're from Australia, Canada, Germany, where ever. As long as the art is good. We will show the support and give you the love. It's when you don't acknowledge that you're using our culture. It's when you don't give us our roses, we have a problem. Love it, embrace it, use it. Just acknowledge us and where it came from. Big up Snow for that. One song they forgot to mention that was remixed and re-released, became a hit was "The Train is Coming" by Shaggy and Ken Boothe. The original by Ken Boothe.

    I remember getting the cassette of 12 inches of Snow in 1993. I was about 8 or 9 at the time. I remember that I went to Puerto Rico for that summer. I remember playing it for the kids out there, and they lost their fucking minds. They wanted to play it all day. Someone eventually got me for my tape when it was time to leave.
    When I came back to the States, I started getting CDs as I had gotten a CD player. I bought this kid's CD book with a couple of CDs in it. 12 Inches of Snow was one of the CDs. Haven't stopped listening to that album for almost 30 years now. Cant tell you how many memories in my life are associated with Snow's music.
    The 90s were a magical time for hip hop and entertainment in general.

    I see Americans on here who say "I thought he was a poser" without understanding Toronto isn't a segregated American city, I was a white kid in a Jamaican 7th day Adventist church but when my mom got sick there was a meal train from the congregation, we all struggled but no one went hungry no matter what color your skin.

    Well said mate! As a musician / Music lover who grew up down the road from London, I have met and session’d with a lot of fellow music people from all over; I have found nothing but love and respect - as long as you are true and respectful to the culture and art that you are creating. I’ll always remember going to a place in Reading UK to see Rodigan vs Goldfinger with a mate of mine and we were literally the only white people there (except Rodigan of course) but we were there, just loving the music and feeling the vibes. It was one of the best nights of my life and I’m not really into Roots / Ragga / Dub etc but the vibes you get from these sessions is magical!!! Love from the UK 🇬🇧

    I had the pleasure of meeting snow backstage at a concert in Vancouver in the early 2000s. He was incredibly humble and kind, a truly warm and friendly guy, you"d never know he was a famous reggae star. He saw me and came up to introduce himself by his real name, not, snow. we had a short but pleasant conversation and kept it moving. His humble nice guy act isn"t an act, he"s the real deal, a truly cool dude. I wish him the absolute best and he richly deserves all the success he has had and will have in the future. Another great interview, thanks Vlad and bless you Snow!

    • @barryschalkwijk9388
      @barryschalkwijk9388 2 года назад

      no they didn't. He chose to come on all the same shows and shit because that's where the attention and money is generated. And even vanilla ice was actually respected for his underground work. If people felt a certain type of way that's on them. And both artist had to deal with that.

      @@barryschalkwijk9388 I'm not denying his accomplishments. The point I was trying to make was Vanilla Ice basically faked his backstory. However, to your point, he definitely has his place in rap history.

    • @RocStarr913
      @RocStarr913 Год назад +1

      Ironically, as much as Snow had way more street credibility and he was certainly more talented musically than Vanilla Ice, he had a similar problem ultimately musically like him. He couldn’t really make all his different musical influences his own. Plus, dancehall reggae is a very difficult genre to begin with to even try to maintain that kind of level of mainstream success in America.

      tricking my Gramma into buying me snoop and cypress hill and house of pain and Coolio and Warren g regulators was my first rap joints I was 8 when the chronic dropped in 92 so I jumped into hip hop cuz of MTV , 💯 my mom woulda been one of them moms burning huge piles of rap music on the street corners if she wasn't working 70 hours weeks.....u remember that shit on the damn news? them attacking rap calling it ALL 'gangsta rap' for shock value to scare mothers n grandmother's???? that was sum bullshit bro, it's like Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer bring rap to the whole world biggest selling rap artists then the chronic n Doggystyle drop and suddenly every mom in America is scared of their kids listening to rap😅 shit wasn't even bad back then unless u were listening to like spice 1 or too short or brotha Lynch or the bloods n Crips tapes. honestly. I mean yeah they said h0ez n btches n what not but shit yo, imagine them listening to some Chicago drill from 2014 when the war n disrespect was at its worst😅 or have em hear some YoungBoy lyrics😅 they'd have a damn heart attack or somethin😅
