My best advise for tourists in these situations is to keep your cool, state that you’re a foreign tourist (make sure you include your country of origin), be honest and answer every question they ask you… most of the time these criminals just want to know that you’re not a threat to their territory and will either let you go through or make you go back. I live 40 minutes from the Mexican border. When I travel into Mexico, the farthest I go is three blocks from the border. Lots of tourist attractions and food; it's all I care to venture into Mexico for. My daughter and her family on her father's side travel deep into Mexico but always on main roads and they're natives so they're well versed on how to get along and how to go about their way. Not to mention, I pray for God's protection over them always.
I heard Mexico is basically ran by the cartel
God bless you brother ☦️ May Jesus Christ keep your family safe
God bless, may you and your family be kept safe.
I've driven from L.A. all the way to Acapulco with no problems. Maybe thats because I haven't driven through shady back roads.
It's not that bad. They drove AROUND gulf of Mexico to Yucatan Which is not known for cartels in that particular area! Took quite a while to get to danger!
The hand signal wasn’t a joke when they put the hand across the neck, it wasn’t a “it’s no good” they really meant the hand across the necks
No way!! The universal signal for “death” means is not good? 😧
@@ChillRichard In this case it literally meant they were going to be beheaded if they kept going in the wrong way
@@Tonyx4 no way! The universal signal for death meant death? Wow you’re a genius!
@@ChillRichard LOL
@@ChillRichard the dude doing that signal meant that quite literally
Luckily they weren’t confronted by heartless gunmen. They saw no threat.
Yeah, they got incredibly lucky. It’s a good thing they stopped too bc the gunmen probably would have just started shooting at them. I wouldn’t have stopped. I would be dead😵 lol
@@firstnamekaty8830 probably same😂😭
I lost it at 1:28 when he does the flying bird hand motion 👐😂
Looking for birds in remote areas of Mexico? Great idea!
Like walking through a landmine field collecting plants for a herbarium ...
Hahahah
This comment is so underrated
Like that white couple from North America that went backpacking through Afghanistan. I don’t get the appeal of playing with danger.
I know too much about mexico that im not interested in visiting there much less for birdwatching...simply unreal
Here before it Blow's up
They were literally almost scared to death... by people who helped save their lives! Glad they're okay!
Wimps.
you realize those guys were the cartel, just simply giving a "friendly" warning. The cartels don't just go shooting random tourists. They do make stops and checks though.
@@tylerm0089 how do you know?
@@GamesHochZehn I own homes in Mexico USA and South Africa and yes they don’t randomly shoot people and sometimes do stops to unknown cars. They don’t even stop me no more in the north part of Mexico sometimes in the south it happens more.
@暁アブラハム how come?
they more than likely thought they were their enemy cartel members, and rolled up on them assuming a gunfight. those men actually were friendly as hell
That’s right.
They were actually civilians that protect the area from cartels and gangs.
I too am a clams casino fan 🤝

As a Mexican I can tell you that. It could have been a lot worse.😬Americans need to stop being so careless when traveling to mexico

As a Mexican i hate hearing news like this but sadly this what reality is like in Mexico 🇲🇽
Like my old man always says, Mexico is no place for cowards.
Yup they're a militia for a village they protect from a local cartel.
It appears that luckily they ran into good guys with guns. Even though it was frightening in the beginning. The guys in the truck had no idea who or what the guys in the car were up to, don't be ashamed of this interaction Exile OP
If Mexico got rid of their corrupt government, Mexico would be an economic powerhouse.
They honestly dumb for choosing to do something like this in Mexico
My best advise for tourists in these situations is to keep your cool, state that you’re a foreign tourist (make sure you include your country of origin), be honest and answer every question they ask you… most of the time these criminals just want to know that you’re not a threat to their territory and will either let you go through or make you go back. Try to stay off of back unpaved roads unless you know where you going. Unfortunately this is also true for most city dweller Mexicans as well.
The cartels would want what they can get, they will take your vehicle your money this isn’t about if your just a threat
@@josecruz1975 cartels already have everything they want, all they need is to move freely without anybody getting into their business. Killing tourists isn’t really their business, on the contrary, that would just draw more unwanted attention to their illegal business.
But what if you're from the US going to mexico? Would it matter or just lie?
@@GrindyVine Mexico doesn't really want beef with the US so absolutely if you're from American, say you're American
Them breaking down is them being honest and what probably saved their life.
This is why when traveling to a foreign country, you should stick to the tourist routes or know someone who knows the dangerous areas

the people that stopped them were a civilian anti-cartel patrol. it’s a common thing in Mexico for civilians to take matters into their own hands since the Mexican government won’t do anything.
Dude that never happens, don’t you know the government always fixes everything?
Lol no
@@jesusguerrero439 People here in the states just call everything a Cartel.

good thing he drove back a little
Cartel was further up the road and would've probably killed them. These guys were locals who thought the bird watchers were part of that cartel.

What’s so confusing about that statement?
Sounds like a military base checkpoint.
