Geddy Lee looked like he'd died and gone to heaven. A true fan boy. Which is a GOOD THING...we need to honor those who came before us, who paved the way
I am 61. We were privileged to have the greatest music ever!
Wtf, imagine being geddy Lee, listening to your heros and inspiration for decades, making your own way to be a legend in history of rock, and then, not only induced them to the hall of fame, played with them at the ceremony, and have the joy and sadness of take place of your inspiration, but he's watching you from heaven. That take some steel balls not to cry at his place 😮🎉😢❤
I can't imagine being Geddy, period. 😉
My two idols on bass. Chris Squire and Geddy Lee. Watching Geddy play with YES was a mind blower.
Geddy was totally rocking it. He looked so freaking happy
Geddy's idol is Rick. Two iconic bands.
Geddy was the only person deserving to take Chris’s place on stage during this performance.
And on the last song 'Owner' it was Steve Howe rocking with a Rickenbacker bass. I didn't know Steve played the bass, and it was the most I've ever seen Steve moving & rocking.
Yes it was
Its amazing to me that Jon Anderson as old as he was here could STILL hit that note...Rock on Yes!!!!
Saw him in June, he's even better ,. if that's possible. If you have opportunity, see Jon and the Band Geeks.
OMG Geddy playing Chris' part. What a performance! Have I died and gone to heaven? Two of the most influential bands in my life.....YES and Rush! Absolutely AWESOME!
I coulda used a little more bass volume actually..
@@drrjim listen with a decent set of headphones.
These guys went their separate ways and continue to tour playing this music. I've seen both versions and neither are as good as when they were still all together.
If you look closely you'll notice Geddy went back to being 18 when he was onstage with Yes.
His idol is Rick. What a performance!
Incomprehensible Roundabout is over 50 years old. What a masterpiece, still gives me goosebumps after all these years. I knew the first time I ever heard it that song would resonate with me for life, I'm 63 now, I called that one right!
Same experience for me. I'm 67 now.
@@wimkleemans 🤘🏻
Agree, I'm 70 and feel the same way., fortunate to have been there when this music was happening. What a great backdrop for coming of age. Saw Yes live in Tampa/St Pete in the early 70's. Great concert
@@Alan-ii5gs That’s awesome! Wish I could have seen them. Roundabout never gets old. RIP Chris Squire.
I am 63 now also, and YES has been my favorite band since 1974. YES is the soundtrack of my life.
I am convinced that each of Rick Wakeman’s hands contains its own independent brain.
Agreed! His solo on "Close to the Edge" has always been my favorite, makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. 🤯
actually he wears the cape to hide the other 4 arms...
Well, as is well-known nowadays, each of the hands of all of us is CONTROLLED by an essentially independent brain-the left and right hemispheres of the neocortex. There is, of course, communication, mostly through the corpus callosum, which, studies have shown, actually increases in size with early musical training. So, as Joe Biden might say, no joke, man.
@@GlennStanton 😂LOL
🤣
The talent on that stage is bursting at its seams. Not many bands, if any can sound the exactly the same many decades later.
My friends from High School would get together at one of each other houses on the weekend and listen to Yes, and other Prog bands, and rock. I was usually the only girl there but I loved music. I did get a chance to see Yes at Cobo Hall in Detroit in the late 70's. They had big blown up mushrooms on the stage that they came out of. Back then, Rick Wakeman had long hair and wore a shining cape. He was surrounded by key boards. I had never seen this before and it was Amazing watching him and the band. Their all Musical Geniuses.
Wakeman is legend...from the time I was a youth to now, his talent and skill musically was evident...and his sense of humour is equally as brilliant...✨🤙🏼✨
One of the greatest jokes I've ever heard, I actually told it to my doctor just prior to an exam. 🤣
Jon Anderson has been my angel voice for 40 years...❤
Oh man, that was so good. The two versions of yes coming together. Gave me chills.
Amazing. YES was on my turntable, then in my cassette deck, CD player, and now streamed but always in my heart. And Steve Howe has been on my list of top ten guitarists forever. Pure talent - raised the bar for all rock and roll.
YES pretty much defined prog rock for me. Truly amazing musicians.
I too love Yes, but the band that originally converted me to Prog as my favorite genre was ELP (there's a performance of "Hoedown" here on my channel from 1997, if interested). As a drummer myself, Carl Palmer was my hero back then, which had a lot to do with it.
That is, until my first Rush concert in 1979, instant fanatic for life. Over the years, I was fortunate enough to see them live 16 times, including 1st row seats in front of Geddy during the Clockwork Angels tour and 2nd row on the opposite side of the stage with Lifeson for R40. Best of both worlds and nearly religious experiences, totally incredible. 🤘😎
YES Music is Timeless It was great 50 years ago and will be great forever in the future 🥰😍🤩🥳❤💯💢💥💫👍👍👍
Without doubt one of the seminal bands of ALL time, sublime then and now.
This brought tears of laughter and joy, also some sadness, to my eyes…
I was a Yes fan from as long as I can remember, but, back in those days, it got me labeled as ‘odd.’
But my ‘eclectic’ taste in music brought me through some seriously hard and lonely times, out in the wilds of Alaska where I ended up, off the grid, and my some of my most beautiful memories are accompanied by the music of Yes…. Now brings my memories back to northern lights, biting below zero temps and ice covered ‘faerie feather trees’, and moonlight nights in a seemingly alien landscape…
Yes is a large part of the soundtrack of my life, and I will always love their music!!
I get it back in the day people used to think I was odd because I loved Yes and Asia. And the funny thing was I'd always ask "well do you like Rush?" And of course they'd say yes and I'd look at them and say well there ya go. Lol nobody ever understood untill now that we don't have it as we did the but we will rock on....
@@judymusselman567 , right??!!!!
WE WILL ROCK ON!!
Riot and be eclectic until the end of my daze!!
"OK I'M STEVE HOWE" so badass haha
Saw them in Tucson, Arizona, 1973. We were lucky to get them. Played their songs to perfection, as always!
Pretty much perfect everything, except for Anderson's vocals...which are fucking spot on/note perfect. What an extraordinary voice he has - I could listen to it all day long.
Thanks for the standing ovation after Roundabout. Well deserved. I respect all of them so much.
YES!!!!? ABSOLUTELY!!!!! 💯 LOVE YA!!!!!
LISTEN TO "YES" MY FIRST APARTMENT!!!!!!
In the early 80's going through a divorce, what kept me going was that song ... "OWNER OF A LONELY" HEART" THANK YOU.....
Congratulations!!!!?
Don't leave out Alan White THee bestt!! What band heaven has unfortunately its only gonna get better as the years roll on!
Alan White's performance on John Lennon's Instant Karma is unforgettable. ruclips.net/video/xLy2SaSQAtA/видео.html
So cool to see Steve Howe playing bass on Owner of a Lonely Heart.
No doubt, but I think it's even cooler to watch Geddy standing in for Chris Squire on "Roundabout". Sounds just like him, the guy can play anything on bass. 😎
Yeah and a Rick no doubt!
@@nickavenoso7851 Yepper! I was kinda disapointed that Geddy didn't play his too, but he's been pretty much a Fender Jazz man for years now.
@@cygnus-studios Yeah. I have only seen Geddy play a Rick on songs that were played with a Rick and need a Rick to match the original sound of the bass, but he mostly play Jazzes now.
wow I thought he was just backtracking guitar didn't really play close attention, was wondering where Geddy was
Yes, I love Yes. All so talented. Omg, Steve Howe killing the bass on Owner. Much love to the band that changed my world in a most beautiful way ❤!
Glad I got to see them live in the 70's In the Round (Cedar Rapids, Iowa). What a concert and The Wizard behind the keyboards blew my mind, Steve on guitar and Chris on bass, together pure magic. Alan White on drums, well, what more can you say? Jon Anderson hitting notes still today is unbelievable.
THE GREATEST BANDS ON EARTH & THIS UNIVERSE - YES, RUSH, KING CRIMSON.
Without a doubt, you’ve got some of the best Progressive Rock bands ever listed there. I’ve been a Rush fanatic for over 40 years now, and have been to 26 of their concerts. King Crimson has also always been a favorite, especially when Greg Lake was in the band.
As far as Yes goes, the death of Chris Squire was a huge loss for the band. In my opinion, he was one of the best bass players in the history of Prog. I think Geddy agrees, since he stands in for Squire here during their live performance here and does an awesome job.
A few more Prog bands I’d add: ELP, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, and Dream Theater. 😉
Forgot to mention, Wakeman's acceptance speech is ball-busting hilarious. Be sure to watch that section if you haven't already, it's about 09:45 in.
@@cygnus-studios Chris and Geddy are my two favorites bass players ever. Rush and Yes are my two favorite bands. Progressive Rock is definitely my favorite genre of music.
Da gebe ich Dir sofort ein "Ja" oder "Yes" !
Don t forget huge Genesis
Jon sounds great what a voice..
legends! All of them!
Holy shit!!!🤭 ~ this is progressive rock at its absolute peak 🙌🙌👏👏 ~ what a treat to have grown up experiencing the talent of these magnificent people who are 💁♂️YES!!❣️
At the 20:09 they play a song that will ever be in my mind because "Owner Of A Lonely Heart" was the main reason I purchased a disturbing the peace fine from our police force for playing my car stereo so loud it could be heard two blocks away.
Are you deaf now???
LOL 😆, the car is sometimes the best place to hear music. I will not buy a car unless it has a kick ass stereo.
Melissa from ohio❤
So great. Every time I watch it. Never again will this trio exist.
Somewhere in the pantheon of musical gods Motzart is there along with Bewethoven and the gang rocking out and giving a huge thumbs up to this epic band.
What a honor for Geddy Lee to be chosen to play Chris Squire bass parts. Sad that all of the other remaining members alive like Tony Kaye, Patrick Moraz, Igor Khorochev, Geoff Downes and Trevor Horn, were not there.
I love that whoever edited this cut Jon’s little tangent about little Richard and bill haley 😂 that moment was and will continue to be awkward as hell, love Jon tho
That would be me, and actually I wasn’t even aware it took place. The main edits I made (sourced from the original HBO broadcast) were to remove everything not having to do with Yes. So, I’m guessing they must have deleted that blurb before airing it.
As far as their speeches went, Wakeman certainly stole the show there, so I’m surely glad that didn’t wind up on the cutting room floor. 🤣
absolutely fantastic!!!!!
I wish that Alex had mentioned Steve Howe.
Not only is Steve Howe the greatest rock guitarist who has ever lived, but his kinship to the lead guitar is apropos and therefore, noteworthy to mention!
Howe is way up there on my top guitarists list, although I wouldn't say "the greatest". However, the arts are probably the most subjective thing on earth (especially music), so never be influenced by the tastes of others and enjoy whatever trips your trigger! 🤘😎
@@cygnus-studios
There is wisdom in your words; and I've always stated that people's choices for "Bests" and "Tops" will always remain subjective.
But, I must take a stand and declare, without any doubt whatsoever, that Steve Howe IS the greatest rock guitarist ever! 💖
Wakeman is also a standup comedian - excellent timing
STILL. SO. AWESOME. ALWAYS...
That boy, Geddy Lee, plays a good Squire-like bass to Fragile. He should start a band or something... 😁👍
Damn...Wakeman...still...🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
thank you for posting this. my first time to see. wow! Yes has been my #1 since teenage years.
so many great songs, great performances over many years.
Glorious.
That brought tears to my eyes.
Weird seeing Alex on the RRHOF stage actually saying legible words
Rick wakeman...who knew he was a comedian 🤣 😂 .
I used to have all their records on vinyl ...
Uma das melhores bandas progressivas no Rock , que eu amo e sendo agraciada pelos gênios do Rush.
steve howe!!!
YES !!!!!!!
Never seen or heard Steve Howe play bass before, probably Chris's Rickenbacker I'd imagine...
Geddyyyyyyyyy.
Fucking Rick Wakeman killed 😂😂😂
I dont have words...❤
Thank you.
I MUST HAVE THAT CAPE.
It should go into the RRHOF museum.
I wonder why Alan, Trevor and Bill didn't give acceptance speeches. And even more so, I wonder what Chris would have said.
IKR? It's so sad without Chris there, to me he was the heartbeat of the band. :( What an awesome tribute and performance.
The listed reason was the length of the program and they wanted to keep things moving. If Rick hadn’t gone on his tangent then we likely would’ve heard a statement from Chris’ widow, but things happen
Alan and Trevor did give speeches during the actual ceremony (I was there). They were cut out / down for later airing, unfortunately.
Sucks that Tony wasn't there
9:50 Oh shit, here it comes!
Totally hilarious! I always keep this joke in my back pocket, even told it to my doctor who couldn't stop laughing. 🤣
Bravo!!! :)
Rick Wakeman is God !
agreed he is so good; truly gifted keyboard player/pianist
I never knew Jon Anderson was Scottish.
He s not he comes from accringhton in the north of england
They had to wait years to get in while bands like Green Day get in their first year eligible. Who votes for these acts someone tell me. I can imagine more then half the voting by members ask who the hell is Yes but hey we know Billy Joe he is a cool guy.
Exactly my friend Musical geniuess like Yes Rush had t wait forever Iron Maiden arent in it also Jethro tull and others .But the thing that matters is that they are in the true HOF wich is their fans hearts and to triue artists thats the only thing that matters i believe
I think Steve Howe is the best guitar player on the face of the e
Steve Howe seems to have appropriated the Yes name. But I wonder about a band featuring Jon Anderson Rick Wakeman Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson. With Bill Bruford on drums if he can be persuaded to come out of retirement
Steve Howe looking solemn while Rick was bringing the hose down:)
@@Isleofskye quite so. If I understand correctly Jon and Chris made an agreement that the Yes name would belong to both or the one who survived. And this appeared to be confirmed by Chris wife after he died. So IMO Steve ha no right to call his band "Yes".
@@andymeal8279I assume that Steve Howe will use the “YES Music Plus” phrase from ABWH. Assuming that they don’t kill the lawyers and let multiple incarnations of Yes exist simultaneously (like before Union, but without lawsuits).
That's also my understanding of the "ownership" of the name Yes. Now that Chris and Alan have passed then I don't think Steve has any claim to it. I listened to a few new "Yessongs" and to me they do not represent Yes music. So Steve should call his band something else. Unless of course he reunites with Jon and Rick 😉
6:55 shortened here - why?!?! 🙄☹️
Geddy talks about the Rickenbacker bass then plays a fender. Nothing more to say
Geddy played Fender Jazz basses on some songs as far back as Moving Pictures, as well as others over the years including Steinbergers and Wals. He found the Jazz could reproduce the top-end of the Ricky well, yet was far better in shaping the bottom. Because of that, beginning with the MP tour it's been his #1 ever since.
Gee.... What a gig Lee!!! Did you earn the union fee?
How bout Steve Howe's harmony on Roundabout...
Free Will! Is Free! PTLord
They shouldn't have let Steve Howe on stage for the a-hole he became and the way he treated Jon. He's getting his now, though -- his version of Yes sounds like a Karaoke version simulated by a bot. Pitiful of Steve,
RIP Alan, Chris, and rock on Jon, Rick, and Trevor!
beside bass, Chris added so much in terms of the overall vocals and energy. truly missed.
I love Yes and still amazed that Jon sings so well (even in 2024) but his stage banter is just sooooo painful. Only Paul Stanley is worse.
Cant believe the trash Rolling Stone Mag put in Hall before so many absolute legendary bands in the Hall and still waiting to be in Hall. Trash STILL goes in and makes it difficult to appreciate the Hall. Yes should have been in decades ago.
That's because there's absolutely nothing to appreciate about it, or Rolling Stone for that matter.
Free , Bad company should be next . All right now!
@@stewartmcmurry2452Good Calls:)
The list is too long to list here and they should be renamed the rock and roll hall of shame.
My first mention would be joe cocker followed by the black crowes.

See who's playng the bass. Wonderful!
Bloody Steve Howe is so sour faced.
No Anderson.No Yes.
I love Anderson as a singer, but Chris Squire was the key element of the band, imho. Without him it isn’t Yes.
No Tony Kaye on the keys?
Over Wakeman? 🤨
Why is Geddy Lee singing without a microphone 19:39
A Canadian in the USA without their "free" health care are completey lost! 😂
Bill bruford is so pompous . He's good but I hate listening to him talk. I just watched an interview where he was talking about playing drums with genesis when Peter Gabrielle left and he was almost saying it was beneath him. I went to his page and some of the interviews were the same with everyone he played with. Phil Collins in also a great drummer.
El unico que se acordo de peter banks fue jon que gran ser humano ,no como el cara de vinagre de steve howe que esta arrastrando el nombre de yes con discos que abuurren a un muerto
Was Steve Howe a member when Peter Banks was? Too late to look it up, now.
Oh t
Y ahora viene lo bueno...🤔 25:00
Too long coming.
John Lord of Deep Purple is the GOAT of keyboard players.. but Rick Wakeman is a close second. IMO
Oh no, you have GOT to be kidding me? 😪
I wish Ranin never joined the band.
Wer ist Ranin😢😮
@@jobstludwig6197I assume that it was meant to be Trevor Rabin. It only requires one mistyped character on a QWERTY keyboard.
