Thanks for uploading, makes me really miss mine had a 97 also but dually, wish things weren't so tough when I parted with her back in 2009 with high fuel prices then, I had 5" pipe but ran the stock length, I also had my timing bumped up to 16.5* so gave it a nice bark at the 2250 mark when rollin, along with all the usual basic 12v mods, nice truck man hold on to her!
Actually, the mechanical trucks with the Bosch p-7100 pump which was the 12v Cummins ended in 98 and the newer "electronic" 24v Cummins with the vp44 pump was from 98.5-2002.

Learning stick in a diesel truck is probably one of the easiest ways, I say go for it. You can practically put in 2nd and dump the clutch on an incline and she'll scoot right up haha

I'm a commercial driver and have experience with sport bike transmissions up to semi tractor 18 speeds. I'm not saying it can't be done, just that if it's not done right it can ruin the syncros. At the end of the day it's not my truck and you should drive it however you like.

Dodge Forever not a blow off valve. Not even the wastegate. That’s just the turbo simply spooling down rapidly after you let off the boost. If you have an automatic floor it then let off it’ll do the same shit but louder. It does it more when it’s warm. Some truck do it more than others. Prob has to do with the condition of your turbo
SaltyBro actually no. A wastegate simply opens up at a certain boost psi to stop the turbo from over speeding or creating too much boost. People make them stay shut all the time to get more boost.

It all depends on the quality of the build. You can go and just throw the motor in and let it run a muck of the front end of the truck or you can build everything nicely and get a nice final project. If I’d take a guess a shitty job would probably be around 2-5 because if you find a junkyard 12 valve and all that and high end can be however deep your pocket will reach.
What exactly is it that gives 12 valves that awesome surge sound when they release the throttle like at 0:55 and 2:16? It’s not compressor surge, at least not the kind you hear on cars. The 24valves and common rails never have that awesome sound

Neutral with clutch engaged -> rev match -> clutch in -> downshift. Synchros will last forever if you do their job for them. Clutch will live for a good 200k+ before needing replaced if you know how to drive. 'Just drive it normal' is the recipe for a trans rebuild every 200k and a new clutch every 100k. That dont fly in the trucking industry

Really high relative diesel prices. 70 cents per litre is quite expensive here.
Smallfrie1996 wastegates only regulate exhaust running through the turbine. No boost pressure goes through the wastegate. Diesel trucks dont have a throttle body
Why bother, just shift it like any other syncronized transmission. If you want to drive it like a big rig, get rid of the small pickup and get in a big rig.

SRT-4 Guy The overdrive gear on NV4500 transmissions cannot be ran under 55 Mph, As lower engine vibrations, and more backlash in gears cause the bolt which holds 5th gears main shaft will rattle loose. It’s very common, and is easy to fix with a wrench set, but sometimes it can cause the 5th gear synchros to fail, rendering it useless for someone who doesn’t know how to “float” gears properly, without having a transmission rebuild. I had it on a used 2002 2500ram with a 24v and the same, 5-speed transmission. 5th gear was non existent, it was another neutral position. Sometimes, the gear teeth would catch and it would grind if you were going up or downhill, as the shaft was able to slide. Was a simple set-screw fix, Took me a day to pull the tranny out for it, and bolt it back in, but cost nothing, as long as the set screw did not get caught in other gears, and such.. it’s often in the bottom of the transmission, or partially in the main shaft.
obviously you don't understand what double does, and the benefits... your young you will eventually learn... reason being is that you don't have to fully push in the clutch all the way in order to shift...

J Pea most of them are. 5th gear isn’t fully splined and neither is the shaft it slides on. That’s why they back off because they vibrate and almost “wobble” on the shaft.

No it is a wastegate, when you let off the throttle all that compressed air has to be released. You either hear a wastegate or compressor surge.
