Thanks for such a GOOD video! Nothing was more overwhelming than going to Joanns and needing interfacing and not having a clue what I needed or WHY. When I asked an assistant, they had no clue either, so i bought several and did several experiments on my own! But this was so helpful for my bags. I am venturing into leather bags in my shop. I now do furniture refinishing and upholstery so I guess its a natural progression…lol ..Again, thanks I love watching your videos all the time!
ikr? you'd think working in a fabric shop they'd have some clue, but the assistants are often useless, and you end up buying expensive crap you don't need as it doesnt suit the project. im doing the same project with leather quilting, so im glad I found this vid..
great news! Yes, you can apply interfacing to leather on a heat press. I started out low temp, around 250, and experimented from there. The time I kept very short when I was testing too. If I thought the heat was too much I would lay a flour bag towel on the mat as well as the plate side. I came out great. Another thing to keep in mind is the type of interfacing you're using. The thicker the interfacing you would want to add more time.
Quite a demo!! Thank you. I’m glad to see that I’m not the only one with PelTex issues. I only put it in bottom of crochet bags now b/c I can invisibly sew it in. Definitely going to order some Deco lite!
Another thing that helps with interfacing is that you should wait until it's completely cooled down before you use it or manipulate it. While it's warm, you can still peel it off the fabric or vinyl but when it's cooled down, the adhesive is no longer pliable and so will stay in place.
I just found your channel and I LOVE IT!!!! Where did you get your heat press? Also, do you have a video that answers questions about where you find your fabric, etc? I have subscribed and look forward to learning from you--thank you so much!!
Thanks for the video. Very informative. I haven’t used Decovil yet but I was wondering what I would use it for because of the texture and thickness of it - light and heavy. So now I have an idea lol! I’m starting to like vilene interfacings and stabilisers more these days.. I love the g700. It makes fabric feel so much more expensive. Anyway, thanks again for the video. Bless up ❤️💋
Finally got my first order of Decovil Light and I've never been so excited to open a package of interfacing! Had to order directly from Germany because there seems to be a shortage in the states but I think it will be well worth it. Apparently Pellon 520 is also Decovil Light and 525 is Heavy but I wonder if it's the same quality as Vliesene's. As soon as I use up my bolt of SF, I'll be ordering Woven Fuse and (hopefully more Decovil) from Barb's Bags. Thanks for all the tips!
Aww..what a cute, pretty face, thanks for the useful info, I am planning to make a mini quilted leather flap bag (chanel) and been researching which interfacing I should use on the gusset and also to give the bag structure, your awesome advice on what interfacing to use, for which purpose was really helpful, thank you! I am all the way over here in crap-ville, Austrealia, hopefully I can still find these different backings online. ❤👝
I was having a heck of a time with 809 with my regular iron. I have a Cricut Easy Press that works great for fusing it but I didn’t want to always get it down bc I have the large size one. But I did notice after I fused the 809 then set it aside to “cool”, it fused a lot better. It was almost like the heat was melting the glue (lol obviously) and after I let it cool down the glue was able to set & stick. Idk if that will help anyone but it’s worth a shot. I know it sounds like common sense that the glue melts and needs to cool to set. But it’s not like Decovil Light or Woven Fuse where the glue sticks right away.
Thank you so much, I was having hard time finding fusible interfacing, every time I finish my bag and turn it , I see wrinkles and I get frustrated,: Decovil I m going to try it.
Thank you so much, I want to make a bag out of faux leather, whats the best interfacing to stiffen it a little more. could i add fleece to it. Thank you again.
I love your videos!! Can you make a video on tips and tricks on making more professional looking bags? I’m new to making handbags and would love to hear what you have to say!
@@LaurenMormino thank you!! Also, I know some of your prints are exclusive to your shop but are you able to share your printer for our own designs if at all possible?
My question. On Amazon if you search for heat presses, they bring up tons and they are all for t_shirts, mugs, etc. will they work for what you are doing?
Hi Lauren, I have a 3 oz leather that has a metallic floral design on it but it is very soft leather and I'm making a backpack diaper bag so, at what temperature would you fuse Decovil on leather and for how long? Would you use the Decovil light or heavy on a backpack? Thank you for your help. Tammy
I haven't been able to get Decovil light. I use Pellon 809 or woven interfacing (depending on the thickness and stretch of the vinyl) and Satin ribbon either glued or taped down the center of the vinyl before folding over the edges.
lauren, got a question on decovil light and vinyl I have been watching your how to video here and the 4 secs on vinyl, is all types of backing on vinyl? , I have canvas and some kind of stretch woven backing on my vinyl, and was wondering if you have issues with the stretchy vinyl, with adhesion.
I wish you had shown interfacing on cork too! I am biting my nails over that!
Parchment paper from the baking department in the grocery store, works great too if you don't have a teflon sheet. Nothing sticks to it!

This is a great video, I'm now using my heat press for interfacing and its so fast and easy! Thank you.

I agree, especially when the fabric is expensive lambskin leather@@LaurenMormino

Excellent presentation and information! Thank you

Thank you for all the tips with using a heat press😀
Very helpful, thank you Lauren.

Thank you so much, Deborah!
Great and very informative!!!! Thank you!
So much great info, thank you so much!!
Thanks. Very helpfull. Would you recommand to fuse cork and Decovil light ?
I believe so!!!
Thank you! Lots of great info.
Hi Lauren, where can I get one of those large TEFLON pressing sheets? (love your most informative videos)
I believe I grabbed mine through amazon!

Now I know how to use my heat press! 😊
Thank you 😊
What interfacing should you use with cork fabric if you want the fabric to have a bit of structure?
Where do you purchase decovil heavy and light?
Where is the cork? learned a lot, but wanted cork for a project.Thx!
What temperature do you set your heat press?
Thank you so much, I was having hard time finding fusible interfacing, every time I finish my bag and turn it , I see wrinkles and I get frustrated,: Decovil I m going to try it.
Decovil still leave wrinkles, just iron it when finished
Thank you so much, I want to make a bag out of faux leather, whats the best interfacing to stiffen it a little more. could i add fleece to it. Thank you again.
I would definitely add Decovil Lght!!
Thank you.
Do you ever use sew in interfacing? Pros and cons? I often see bags (mainly project type) that have so many wrinkles on the outside. Hate that look...
I love your videos!! Can you make a video on tips and tricks on making more professional looking bags? I’m new to making handbags and would love to hear what you have to say!
I can definitely add it to my list!
Interfacing demystified! Thank you
Thank you for doing the video super informative 👍🤗
Thank you for sharing. This answered lots of questions for me.
What temperature should I put my heatpress on for marine vinyl fusing to decovil light?
On that note. How do you interface pebbled faux leather without affecting the print?
Definitely with the vinyl face down. May need to do it in slow spurts letting it cool inbetween
@@LaurenMormino thank you!! Also, I know some of your prints are exclusive to your shop but are you able to share your printer for our own designs if at all possible?
do you do this in for bags reinforcement or you just place the EVA FOAM?
You are using a heat press to apply to DECOVIL heavy to leather - can you use an iron?
So helpful, thank you
My question. On Amazon if you search for heat presses, they bring up tons and they are all for t_shirts, mugs, etc. will they work for what you are doing?
Yep! That’s actually what a heatpress is mainly used for :F
Hi. I want to add decovil to the base of my bag, which is cork. Can I glue it in place? Would love your feedback
Yes or you can fuse it. Just use a pressing cloth and have you cork touch the ironing board - not your iron
Love Barb’s Wovenfuse!
Tammy
The light absolutely! You shouldn’t need more than 6-10 seconds at 149 Celsius
Thank you so much for your help, appreciate it very much. Tammy
What are alternatives for Decovil to prevent vinyl..cork or leather tabs from streatching? Thanks so much for your help.
I haven't been able to get Decovil light. I use Pellon 809 or woven interfacing (depending on the thickness and stretch of the vinyl) and Satin ribbon either glued or taped down the center of the vinyl before folding over the edges.
until i get my decovil, is there any safe way to fuse leather to peltex? i only have an iron, not a press.
What temperature did you fuse the decoville light onto the vinyl?
I have my machine to 149 Celsius
Thank you beauty!
Very nicely done. Thank you
Which interface is waterproof?
can you bond resin crystals to fabric with a heat press and special silver or color treated leather
I think you can use them for rhinestones yes!
The leather I’m not sure and would test!
Still confused so what would you use on leather
You could really use any interfacing but do not use any steam
What about pellon thermolan?
How do you fuse interfacing to leather?
Leather facedown pressing cloth. No steam
lauren, got a question on decovil light and vinyl I have been watching your how to video here and the 4 secs on vinyl, is all types of backing on vinyl? , I have canvas and some kind of stretch woven backing on my vinyl, and was wondering if you have issues with the stretchy vinyl, with adhesion.
I can’t say I’ve tried with them but it never hurts to just to a quick test piece to make sure!
Thank you so much
Do you have a discount code for gotinterfacing?
I do not
Does fabrics matter when making bags
does peltex hold wrinkles?
It can. They can be steamed out but not as easily as decovil
What kind of interfacing for suede?
Depends on what you’re using it for but Decovil light would definitely fuse well.
Do you use foam
Thanks
the woven fuse is there a number?
There isn’t a number for wovenfuse. It’s available at gotinterfacing.com !
How do you organize all your different interfacing?
I have large shelves I store them on!
Hi !i am Jamal are you know about any gents basepoke tailoring channel plz forward it's link
Gosh! You have a lot of stuff.
