This came out only a year after his debut album and only three years after the end of his first band Bluesology - so its not as if he spent a great deal of his career without a hit. His work as a songwriter definitely paid off for his own work this hit single and the album, Honky Château, that followed. It also topped the charts in the UK the USA.
Yes he is on his last tour he is retiring..he has been performing since 1969 , 50ish years. And he has young kids .. ( he wants to spend more time at home)
Yes Elton had his farewell concert. I went November 11th it was off the chart great.. Elton is a proud gay man with the same man since the late eighties. He has two sons.. He was married to a woman in the 70s but for obvious reasons it didn't work out.. He has the AIDS FOUNDATION he has raised millions of dollars. He has so helped countless rock stars get sober as he he got sober to. He helped M&M get sober along with others.. I just adore him since childhood and I'm 58..
Still my favorite Elton song ever. First dance at my wedding 22 yrs ago. Second favorite has always been Harmony though. Doesn't get much love, but its a sweet little song that's the last track on an amazing album (its off Goodbye Yellowbrick Road). Heard him play it only once in concert, and I've seen him 6 times now, including just recently in San Antonio. Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me is creeping up there though, as is the live version of Burn Down the Mission. Take me to the Pilot and Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting are bangers for sure. Madman Across the Water is another classic that needs more attention.
Elton John was quite a flamboyant concert performer back in the seventies. For something different from back then check out a clip of him singing "Pinball Wizard" in the movie movie adaptation of The Who's legendary rock opera Tommy.
Thanks for the tune :) Oh, yeah, "Someone Saved my Life Tonight" was kind of a coming out song if not overtly so. Someone saved him from getting married which would have been disastrous.
Bernie is the man with the lyrics , Elton is the piano man that put it all together ..Elton became quite a bit influenced by Leon Russell and his style of piano playing also around the time he made this session for the first album .. WIKI -Your Song / The instrumental focus is on John's Leon Russell-influenced piano work, along with acoustic guitar, Paul Buckmaster's string accompaniment, and a shuffling rhythm section.
I think flamboyant would be a good description. Bernie's last name is pronounced like you would say talkin, but it's Taupin. Elton John is way up there on the list of faves for me. I could never pick even a top ten, but he's been in my life as long as I can remember. You should do something off 'Madman Across the Water" or "Tumbleweed Connection". There's some gold in those! Everything he touches turns to Gold! I love this man!
🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦 His best song ever PERIOD ❗️ is 🎵 Funeral for a friend /love lies bleeding 🎵🎵🎵 FROM THE ORIGINAL ALBUM Your gonna adore this song 🎵 ❤️ Keep the good work my friend Bizzz ✌️
I have to get to bed, but because it's you Biz... I squeezed it in!! YES!!!! GOOSEBUPS!! So beautiful!!! Love ya Biz, sorry for such a short comment but I felt it important to say.... I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your reaction. It touched my soul. BEAUTIFUL!!🥰 Please consider doing "Daniel" by Elton John. It's STUNNING and moving beyond words (it's about his actual brother!!!😉) Again.... do "Daniel" by Elton John.🙏
These lyrics may not be grounded in reality, but they are grounded in what many would want someone to feel about them. The essence of life is to love, and be loved.❤️❤️
So much to pick from. I d suggest you start with this album then go album by album. 2 sleepers for you from Tumbleweed Connection. Talking Old Soldiers and Love Song. His early stuff IMO was his best
To answer your question, Elton didn't come out as gay for a long time. First he didn't talk about it, then in 1976 when pushed he claimed to be bi. Finally he came out as gay in 1988. So he was either closeted or semi-closeted for years.
This was Elton's first hit. He did many great songs after it, but Your Song is still my favorite Elton John song.

You need to listen to some of his older songs. Burn Down the Mission. Take me to the Pilot. Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters. Rocket Man....
Mine too and I think of my late wife from years gone by every time I listen to this song which has been thousands of times!

I love how much he credits Bernie Taupin for writing his biggest hits!! Phenomenal talent!!

I’m my opinion the prettiest love song ever

I agree
Mona Lisa and Mad Hatters is my favorite think you would love it
This is the song for ALL sons too their father!!!
Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics. Elton put them to music and perfored
Try "Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word" for heartfelt emotion!
So much to pick from. I d suggest you start with this album then go album by album. 2 sleepers for you from Tumbleweed Connection. Talking Old Soldiers and Love Song. His early stuff IMO was his best
Masterpiece
Border Song! great tune.
You might try "Friends ". It's a poignant song about growing old. Very touching song, not played much.
Another Elton song with Eyes in is Blue Eyes that he dedicated to Ol blue eyes himself Frank Sinatra
Please listen to Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters.
It’s wonderful
Taupin (top-in) wrote the lyrics and then EJ wrote the music.
I think this was his first hit
Yes, it was
John Lennon and Elton John were very good friends. Lennon knew his Beatle manager was gay. Lennon knew who Elton was. Why would it matter...lol
There are a lot of crazy people these days who feel that a person's sexuality is THE most important aspect of a person.

❤😊
☮️💙💙🔥🔥😍
The single version is much better and was his first top 10 hit in the USA.
The studio version is way way better.
Rare earth?????
This is one indifferent interpretation. 😐
