    totally agree with you on a lot of these. at the zoo i work at, most of our animals were rescued pets who were once kept as pets. alligators, caimans, birds of prey, venomous snakes, etc. all of these animals require specialized training when it comes to caring for them and handling them, it blows my mind that many people think they can be kept as pets by the average person

    • @JeremyGoneWildPets

      It truly is amazing how some people think they are entitled to keep any animal they want, no matter how dangerous or ridiculous it is. But I’m glad facilities like the zoo you work at are around to take in those animals that people made poor decisions in getting.

      My rule is: if it weighs more than me full-grown or may or may not be more intelligent than I am, it's not a pet.

      Jeremy's Wild Studio the amount of big animals that the zoo has that people gave up is ridiculous. The amount of retics and crocodilians they have is incredible. Same with venomous snakes also, despite a ton of those animals being illegal here, the zoo still ends up with tons of them

    Agree 100%! It is INSANE to me that some of these are kept in captivity. How some people can justify keeping them is beyond me.

    I was surprised to learn how many people are keeping marmosets up here. When I was younger someone was breeding wolf crosses like crazy, a lot of them were later rescued as they were hard to keep.

    I love alligators, I think they're gorgeous and incredible animals, but I also believe we can enjoy them in the wild or in a zoo setting without keeping them as a pet. Same with monkeys and (my personal favorite on your list) lemurs 😍😍😍

    Funny owl story my uncle works at a bird of prey rehab facility and he learned that owls can turn their heads 180 when a particularly angry owl he was retraining turned around and bit his nipple

    I agree with there on the Crocodilia and I've seen so many bad examples of owning them it makes me sad. One of the few channels I've seen kept them correctly was Chandler's Wildlife who owns thems for education to the public and keeps them outside for natural UVB.

    • @JeremyGoneWildPets

      Chandler doesn’t keep them as pets so that’s another story.

    100% Agreed. I don’t understand those who keep crocodiles. They don’t watch enough documentaries. We did have a hybrid wolf once but that was because we sort of rescued him from a bad situation. And though I loved him he definitely was a bit territorial then our normal dogs. Definitely wouldn’t do it again or say anyone should do it.

    Agreed!! So many rescues have to take on these animals that uneducated/unprepared people intend on keeping as pets. Huge agreed on the dolphin/whale opinion as well! Primates terrify me. We have a customer at our shop (with an educators license) that brings their spider monkey with them to shop and I have to hide in the back until they leave. They freak me out!

    • @JeremyGoneWildPets

      Obviously if you’re an educator things are a little different than just someone keeping a pet. But I can understand why you would hide in the back. Phobias are real.

    I think the only exception is snake discovery because they have a rescued crocodile or alligator I forgot which one and they take care of it in my opinion but I don’t know I haven’t done much research on crocodiles as pets 🙃

    Everyone I've seen in the US that has a bird of prey, they use them for hunting and don't consider them as pets. If they are wild caught, they are often set free after hunting season. It takes two years of training to get a falconry license and if your sponsor realizes you are doing this to keep a pet, they will probably stop training you.
    Now, that's just the USA. I don't know about everywhere else though.

    • @JeremyGoneWildPets
      @JeremyGoneWildPets  4 года назад

      There’s someone on the internet who has a vulture. I don’t know if they are a licensed falconer or not, but the way they present the vulture online looks as if it’s a pet.

    • @armoredwings4182
      @armoredwings4182 4 года назад +1

      @@JeremyGoneWildPets I don't think vultures hunt, since they are scavengers, but they are still big powerful birds that shouldn't be pets due to their size. They could really bully you around.
      Now I admit that I like vultures and did want one in the past, but I have looked into falconry to be responsible for such an animal.

    • @LadyVader
      @LadyVader 4 года назад +1

      @@JeremyGoneWildPets if we're thinking of the same person, that person IS licensed and has been raising the vulture in the house to get him accustomed to human interaction as an educational ambassador animal. He'll be moving to an outdoor enclosure when he's ready.

    Disagreed with both crocodilians and venomous snakes. Given proper care these animals can be kept as pets and actually thrive. Agree with the rest though, those almost never do well as pets.

      @@JeremyGoneWildPets Yeah everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Any crocodilian besides maybe a dwarf caiman is not a realistic pet for most people anyway. Same goes for massive lizards like monitors.

    I agree very strongly on primapes for 1 big reason most get them illegally or when they don't even know basic care I've seen very few people who keep meh care of primapes
    On apex predators yes and this is cause they are always taken at birth from mom and have over a 50% death rate because of this human make awful mother's for tigers for example we even make terrible mother's from domestic cat kittens and there is specialty care classes on neonate care
    I disagree on the foxes a red fox will almost always do better than a fennec as they need lots of sand to dig and their space needs to NEVER drop below I think 75-80 which most people don't keep their house 75-80+ all the time
