As always, extremely informative and balanced... having sold all my Nikon dslr kit, Curious of your thoughts on X-T4, vs R6 (with adapted L glass), and Sony A7III. Love the Fuji's, but with 6 children high performing AF is key as is the price-point lol. Sony with the Tammy glass or the R6 with RF adapter/control ring and used L glass all come out near the same cost. Aside from family and daily shooting I'm an Americana landscape guy. Thanks again... what a beautiful place you live in! I got to live in Europe for a few years and still miss the landscapes there (and the food!).
Thanks as always for a wonderfully detailed and unbiased review! I rate your opinions highly. I'm slowly building my Fuji system on the side. My main set up is A7iii 14-24/4, 28-75/2.8 & 24-240. X-T2, 10-24/4, 16-80/4, 50/2. Just waiting for the X-T4 prices to drop lower before I get one! 🙂
Love your reviews. I am trying to get into mirrorless and was waiting for xt4. I am beginner photographer and looking for 2 to 3 must have lenses. I mainly take it on vacation - street photography, and take pics of my wife. You have any recs - one prime, one zoom, one tele?
Thanks alot for this real-world usage review of the X-T4. Lots of work went into this video. May I know if the dials are easily knocked out of place? I had that issue with the X-T2, sometimes when just taking it out of the bag.
The Shutter and ISO dial have locking buttons. The Exposure comp isnt really prone to getting knocked, the only things that is sometimes prone to getting "out of place" may be some of the looser Aperture Dials on the lenses, some lenses are really a bit loose, but usually, not a dramatic issue, generally also easily avoidable. Additionally, if you stick in in A and use the body controls (custom wheel for example) to set the Aperture. The A position is usually slightly more "clicked and locked" on some lenses. But i guess, you already have an XT-2 and probably know most of these workarounds. I always found the dials on the X-T4 to be really solid atleast in my experience.
I totally agree regarding the screen. A6500 or XT3 screens would have been a better fit and more convenient solutions in my opinion. Even A6600. For people not vlogging, it´s much quicker to make videos or photos below eye level
Love your reviews. Thanks so much. Also watched your travel recommendations. Starting in 2021 going to do some serious travel. Considering the XT4 with 16-80 a the base kit and build around it. Wide Angle, small prime and telephoto as needed. However, the Sony A6600 with 16-55 seems killer. I also have a EM5.3 with 12-40 2.8. I also have some Canon M gear, lenses are not up to it, I like the EM5 better. My FF gear is too heavy to pack. So a direct question, if you were heading the pyramids, Paris, Australia what system would you take? Not a video shooter.
Switched entirely from Nikon full-frame DSLRs to the X-T4 and a few lenses several months ago. Couldn’t be happier with the quality and performance combined with the far smaller size.
@@AlexCruzHaha Coming from contrast based AF on Nikon DSLRs, it’s leaps and bounds better. But the continuous AF could benefit from a reliability boost.
thank you for this review. I bought it a week ago but its good to get a refresher. That gimbal you had, can you stick a mic on it and still make it free in rotation? Also, what's the max weight for that gimbal? I have a sigma 18-35 lens, its VERY heavy. I dont have money yet to buy a more light weight :) I need a gimbal first.
50mm 2,0 for me, i dont need any other lens for what i do. For other use cases it could be the 16 or even 14mm prime. Some would suggest a 35 or 50mm equivalent - i always found them useless. If i'd add a second lens it would be the 16mm 2,8. But i know what i want, some feel they need to be able to cover every possible situation and well, then you'll end up with the trinity of 16-35, 24-70 and 70-200 zooms plus macro, fisheye, a portrait prime and so on.
Another good and detailed review. I have a Sony a6000. Do you think it worth to upgrade to Fuji? The G9 also seems a nice option too. I am not very happy with low light capabilities of the Sony and the sensor needs cleaning all the time. I also need better video quality.
Thank you for the very good video. Hope your x-t4 cinema video for the smallrig cage etc. is coming soon 🙂 Have you btw. used the Freewell variable nd with the xt4 for the video. How much colour shift you are getting?
Why do people complain so much about the rotating screen? You can’t argue that it goes against the “vintage style” but that a regular, non-flip LCD doesn’t. Vintage cameras did not have screens at all and no one complained that the previous X-T cameras all had LCDs…
Can you elaborate on why are you pissed with the tilty-filippy screen? It seems like a very effective option. Maybe it is contradictory with the vintage look of the camera. But the option of having a rotating screen serms very helpful to me.
@@TheHybridShooter Just checked it. Your explanations are actually make sense. Why can't the camera companies make a screen which has screen that could do all tilt, flip and rotate separately(like Canon+Sony+Fujifilm altogether)? That would be a game changing thing.
Hello bro.. What is the difference between fuji 18-55mm kit lens(comes with camera) and 18-55mm lens the one we buy separately with box? Is there any difference??
Thank you. How is the build quality of the X-T4? I found the build quality of the 3 not as robust as the 2, especially the top dials. I had several X-T3 that had lack of resistance consistency across the top dials, with one feeling very cheap. How is the 4 in this regard and in general?
Not issues, but the display rotating mechanism doesn’t feel very solid, plastic texture on the back of the display feels cheap, plastic on the bottom of the camera and hanging port covers are also downgrades, so it definitely feels less robust than X-T3 to me.
@@TheHybridShooter I agree about the port covers. Plus their design is a bit annoying as they aren’t removable plus when a mic is plugged in you can’t rotate the screen which is irritating. The body as a whole lacks that hollow feeling of the XT3 and previous XT bodies though so feels better to me.
Nice video. I am not a fan of the camcorder style rear screen so if I was to switch, it would be for the XT3. It seems that for anything other than extreme professional usage, this camera line has it all, from ease of use and ergonomics to lens selection, within the APSC envelope. I am not a fan of the Fuji/Sony menu system. Too complex for me. Canon and to some extent Nikon do a much better job of this. It remains to be seen if Fuji can sell enough cameras and lens to justify staying in business. That is the only risk in my opinion. You really seem to like the camera and that is a good recommendation in itself. Stay safe.
Think it actually is the best APSC. I'm not in the Fuji system for some reasons. Fuji is doing well: hearing what people want. So they are strong involved in APSC. Hope they survive. Think there are only Sony and Canon in future - others are in a niche, some die like Olympus and struggle like Nikon. Pentax... who is Pentax...oh yes they are in the niche of a niche with DSLR anachronism. So good luck to Fuji.
Fujifilm is definitely the third safest brand and the moment. They have their niche and relatively lean organizational structure, so I am not worried about Fujifilm’s future.
Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts. Did you prefer the xt4 over the Z6 for video? I have the xt4 but having been thinking about switching to the z6 for better low light capabilities?
@@TheHybridShooter I see. The x-t4 is great for video and stills, but with low light shooting I do, noise has started to become an issue. Therefore I thought the z6 maybe a better option. What were the main issues you had with the z6 for video?
I generally don't recommend Z6, there are better option if you want full frame, mainly Sony A7 III. Video processing of Z6 is far behind A7 III, autofocus as well, there is a lot of moiré, there are banding issues and so on.
Man you got me there with the 1.2fw. I jsut jumped into fuji website and i thought there was an update, but still 1.10. Btw can you please tell me your af settings with the viltrox? that looks really smooth
Does Fuji or 3rd party make any lens like sigma 16mm F1.4 which is only for Sony and canon ef m, cheaper and great quality for every day use, It seems Fuji wide lens with large Aperture is very pricey. Thanks.
Can you hear die IBIS in silent environments? I currently own a X-H1 and the IBIS noise is really annoying (sounds like a loud PC fan as soon as you switch the camera on). In the city with the background noise you barely hear it but when doing landscape photography without tripod it is horrible. The Z6 for example is much quieter.
@@TheHybridShooter that's strange. But I know that the noise is "normal" because other X-H1 models in the camera store had the same. And there are some comments and discussions in forums about it. Maybe not everyone hears that noise frequence or whatever ... thanks
im very curious about zooming with video on other brands, just wondering if you show zooming with sony/canon? quick question - regardless of price which is faster to focus? the 56mm f1.2 or the viltrox 50mm f1.4? thank you. here's to fuji hoping they push the video design forward with the X-H2.
@@TheHybridShooter oh i thought it will be comparing the 16-55 f2.8 with other brands zooms (24-70 f2.8) and see yes fuji have an issue that when zooming in while recording video the exposure will shift around. im just wondering if thats the same for other brands cause i never heard about it nor other people prove it to not happen.
No it isn’t, that creates a new problem of not having a tilting screen. Rotating screen has no advantages over tilting screen unless you are filming yourself. It has nothing to do with age.
Awesome Video! I just don’t get why you are so hung up on the screen being flippy and that for not matching the “vintage” style. As long as it’s not flipped out you wouldn’t even know if the screen is flippable or not? But having the option to do so when needed is ALWAYS good. It would be an absolut embarrassment for Fuji NOT giving the camera a flip screen in this prize range:)
Thank you! It is explained here: ruclips.net/video/lWzkQER21RE/видео.html 2-way tilting screen (from X-T3) is a much better choice for a camera such this one. Rotating screens belong on camcorders, X-T4 isn't one.
Very good and comprehensive video! Since the introduction of the X-T4 there's a suprisingly amount of backlash against the camera despite a number of improvements such as the IBIS and new battery. Two points are always repeated: the autofocus and the price. I can't say anything about the autofocus, but I can understand the price issue when you see that the new Nikon Z5 is released for a price below the X-T4. I'm a stills shooter and I'll stay with my X-T2 for the moment. When it comes to image quality there isn't a significant improvement over the previous generation of sensors.
Thank you! I haven't heard any complaints about the price whatsoever. $200 increase for IBIS, larger battery and other improvements is more than acceptable IMO. Feature set of the X-T4 is much better in comparison with Z5, which has larger sensor, but it is an entry level camera in all other aspects. There definitely is a significant improvement in image quality between X-Trans 3 and X-Trans 4. Dynamic range and ISO performance is much superior on X-Trans 4, due to latest BSI technology. All of the de-mozaique issues were also fixed with X-trans 4.
Can't wait for XH2 with full sized HDMI, hopefully ProRes RAW, better IBIS, same sensor and maybe upgraded processor, better AF and no record limits. The XS10 on oct 15 will be interesting too!
@@TheHybridShooter The X-T4 was released at CHF 1'999,- in Switzerland - and only now it has dropped to 1'710,- which is still more than the US release price of $1699. I have picked up a new X-T3 for 1'006,- shortly after the X-T4 release.
The Hybrid Shooter Very specific indeed . But usually consumer electronics are cheaper in Switzerland as in surrounding countries as we enjoy a far lower VAT and nobody lobbies for import taxes on this kind of goods.
I don't think so to be honest. If we take the equivalency into account, a lot of FF lenses are much cheaper. Fuji makes some great lenses but I wouldn't say that they are particularly budget friendly.
Fuji 56 F1.2 is more expensive than Sony 85 F1.8. Even more than the RF 85 F2. RF 35 1.8 cheaper than Fuji 23 1.4. RF 24-105 cheaper than Fuji 16-55 2.8.
U are just too old for a flippy screen.... go to the xt3, if u want a vintage film cam go get on on ebay, don't complain about innovation, its not just u that will use it, they added it for the ppl that requested it, not to menti3u can get more angles🤫
It has nothing to do with age or innovation. Rotating screen is 90' technology and has a lot of disadvantages as I explained here: ruclips.net/video/lWzkQER21RE/видео.html Rotating screens are being forced on every camera by "loud" vloggers. Tilting screen is still more useful and practical for majority of users.

salut de France. i have seen your first review of Panasonic s5, and i wait for a long review like this!!!!!! thanks for your work.
Unfortunately, I don't have S5, so there will be no S5 long term review.
@@TheHybridShooter can you compare the DR and Low light of S5 and XT4 ? Is it much better on S5?
@@ProSpeedflying It is the same as with A7 III vs X-T4, I have talked about here: ruclips.net/video/xcndnKHx7us/видео.html
@@TheHybridShooter Thanks!
Hello my friend, I am looking forward to see a X-S10 review in near future from you 😊
Unfortunately, I have no information about availability of review units, so I don’t know if or when I will be able to make the review.
Me too
Diky za vyborne zhrnutie.
Otazka:
Pri natacani videa v plne manual mode (tzn. manualne nastavena clona i cas) umoznuje pouzit Auto ISO?
Ďakujem pekne, áno, to samozrejme je možné.
Stay safe.
I'm not worried about Fujifilm. They have their niche and relatively lean organizational structure, so I am quite sure that they will be OK.
What is your opinion on this camera vs the Panasonic S5 for video? Both cameras with their kit lenses are the same price currently
I prefer X-T4. I would only get S5 if you can take advantage of the video specs. If you want full frame, take a look at A7III instead.
@@TheHybridShooter thanks William! I appreciate it. It is a shame that Panasonic isn’t listening to their customers about the autofocus
@@Alexrocks1253 Yeah, that is a shame, they ran out of time to fix it.
Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts. Did you prefer the xt4 over the Z6 for video? I have the xt4 but having been thinking about switching to the z6 for better low light capabilities?
I much prefer X-T4 for video, but I am judging that based on my experiences with Z6 from 2018, which were not great, I don't how much did they fix.
All of my AF samples are shot with default settings.
Does Fuji or 3rd party make any lens like sigma 16mm F1.4 which is only for Sony and canon ef m, cheaper and great quality for every day use, It seems Fuji wide lens with large Aperture is very pricey.
Thanks.
Yes, Fuji makes 16mm F1.4 ruclips.net/video/Odjut_L8OtY/видео.html
Can you hear die IBIS in silent environments? I currently own a X-H1 and the IBIS noise is really annoying (sounds like a loud PC fan as soon as you switch the camera on). In the city with the background noise you barely hear it but when doing landscape photography without tripod it is horrible.
The Z6 for example is much quieter.
No, I have never heard loud IBIS in any camera.
@@TheHybridShooter that's strange. But I know that the noise is "normal" because other X-H1 models in the camera store had the same. And there are some comments and discussions in forums about it.
Maybe not everyone hears that noise frequence or whatever ... thanks
@@patrick.771 I have never used X-1H, but loud IBIS definitely isn't normal in general.
From what Country is this Dude?
Looks Beautiful!
Slovakia, although these videos are honestly better than reality.
When you be able to talk about the battery charger?
Hopefully end of this month.
Add a smallrig L bracket and it will be perfect! Cage is nice if you do video and needed to mount more accessories!
What kind of camera cage are you using with the X-T4?
It is linked in the description.
How do you like the xt4 compared to the new Sony a7c?
I have never used A7C, but it will probably be similar to A7 III - bit.ly/SonyA7IIIvsFujiXT4
Have you compare the video dynamic range on fuji xt line vs the sony apsc camera?
No, I haven't it depends on the settings.
Awesome camera, could you tell how much you paid for it? Just looking to buy it as well.
How do you get the exposure to not change with video focusing?
By using manual exposure mode.
What about the xf 23 1.4 compare to the viltrox 23 1.4 ?
I have never use that one.
Do we get a X-S10 vs X-T4 video? :)
It is not on the schedule at the moment.
im very curious about zooming with video on other brands, just wondering if you show zooming with sony/canon?
quick question - regardless of price which is faster to focus? the 56mm f1.2 or the viltrox 50mm f1.4?
thank you.
here's to fuji hoping they push the video design forward with the X-H2.
With Sony or Canon it depends on the lens.
I have only tested 50mm F1.0, so I can't answer that.
@@TheHybridShooter oh i thought it will be comparing the 16-55 f2.8 with other brands zooms (24-70 f2.8) and see yes fuji have an issue that when zooming in while recording video the exposure will shift around.
im just wondering if thats the same for other brands cause i never heard about it nor other people prove it to not happen.
xt4 vs xt2 is there improvement in AF speed/accuracy ?
Yes
Waiting for that 18-55 f2.8 review. If possible please compare it to 15-45 optical performance. 🙏🏻❤️
And any lens suggestions for astro photography?
I don't have much experience with astro photography, but 16mm F1.4 seems to be obvious choice for X-mount.
fuji 16 1.4 or samyang 12 f2
@@TheHybridShooter any advice on pairing a speedbooster and using full frame f1.4 lenses?
@@Hornbauer2010 any advice on speedbooster?
I have never used speedbooster on X-T4, so I can't tell you much about that.
That damn flippy screen is stopping me upgrading. Damn videographers obsession with filming themselves has ruined a great photography camera.
I don't understand why there are two buttons to alter to go from single shot to continuous. Why not one switch?
There is just one dial for that on the left side.
I’m happy with my X-H1.
Pekny zaber z Oravic :)
Ďakujem!
Why this video is without subtitles?
I don't know.
Was thinking about upgrading from my X-H1, but ima skip this one :D
@Me Myself No, both use the same but X-processor 4.
Can't wait for XH2 with full sized HDMI, hopefully ProRes RAW, better IBIS, same sensor and maybe upgraded processor, better AF and no record limits. The XS10 on oct 15 will be interesting too!
Very comprehensive
Nice..
It was the steep price hike over the X-T3 that scared me away from this camera. We will see if Fuji ever makes an X-T5 with a tilt screen.
I don't think 200€ over X-T3 launch price is a steep hike. Especially with IBIS and new battery.
@@TheHybridShooter The X-T4 was released at CHF 1'999,- in Switzerland - and only now it has dropped to 1'710,- which is still more than the US release price of $1699. I have picked up a new X-T3 for 1'006,- shortly after the X-T4 release.
I understand, but Switzerland is a specific market, so you can't really judge global prices based on that. US prices also don't include VAT.
The Hybrid Shooter Very specific indeed . But usually consumer electronics are cheaper in Switzerland as in surrounding countries as we enjoy a far lower VAT and nobody lobbies for import taxes on this kind of goods.
Nevertheless, the increase of price in the rest of the world was very acceptable IMO.
hello friends!
“A couple of months” qualifies as a long term review !!
Yes
Native lenses are a bargain compared to the equivalent full frame offerings.
Flippy screen is right for x-t.
I don’t think so.
@@TheHybridShooter I know you don't, the market disagrees though. Personally i wouldn't have bought it without the flippy screen.
How do you that the market disagrees? A lot of people haven’t bought it because of the rotating screen, according to the comments.
Rotating screen is 90' technology and has a lot of disadvantages as I explained here: ruclips.net/video/lWzkQER21RE/видео.html
Rotating screens are being forced on every camera by "loud" vloggers. Tilting screen is still more useful and practical for majority of users.
