I have a 35mm f2 and. 16mm 2.8 and 18-55mm kit lens. I find the 16mm lacking in terms of low light so I would replace it with the 1.4, however I am looking at a 23mm which would you recommend the f2 or the 1.4 ?
@@Watchthekettle late reply, but depends what you need it for, if you don't mind the size then the 1.4 is definitely worth going for due to the extra bokeh and low light performance. Personally, I own the 23mm f/2 and it is my primary lens, I use it for all my photography, family portraits, street photography, casual shoots with friends, and I absolutely love it, the size makes it very unobtrusive and the easy focusing capabilities makes it not only a dream to use for myself with quick action shots with moving subjects, but also leaves me at ease when handing my camera to those unfamiliar with adjusting manual focus as with the autofocus on, they simply just need to tap the screen to focus on the subject. If you have the money to spend and want to get the most bokeh and low light performance, the 23mm f/1.4 is the way to go but if you want just an additional lens to have fun with on the cheap, the 23mm f/2 is perfect!
Ive binged quite a few videos of yours because Ive been considering switching to fuji from my Sony a6300. While the Sony has great specs, I dont feel a connection to it. It feels sterile and clinical like an Iphone and there just something about the colors that leaves me dissatisfied even when shooting RAW. For comparison, my very old and sizable canon 6d brings me more joy when using it and with its dated sensor's color rendition. As a matter of fact, I think Sony is the Apple of the camera world atm. I've capture a few 'keepers' with the Sony but I cant explain it. Me and the Sony aren't in love, it is definitely a great and capable camera though. I haven't decided what fuji I want yet, only that Ill be making the move soon. I appreciate your no BS conversation like you're telling your friends about your fuji collection and the soul of the company itself rather than being overly-hyped to the point of coming off as fake and ramming promos down my throat. Thank you you for the time spent explaining the small nuances of each camera and all the other information. I hope your channel gets as big as the popular Sony and Canon channels. I can tell you enjoy the process of actually taking photos with tactile gear even if its a more involved process. Basically like driving a manual car because you feel something. You got a sub from me. My Instagram is @bhurnal if you'd like to see some of my work. The better(older) stuff is from the Canon.
Probably the best thing I’ve noticed about shooting Fuji is that no matter what kind of shooting you’re interested in doing, it seems like Fuji makes a spectacular zoom or prime to cover those bases. You kit examples at the end really drive this home…the Fuji system is extremely versatile and the lenses are really special.
Hi Andrew. I appreciate the humility you expressed at the start of the video. It’s refreshing in these times of self-promotion. However, in my opinion, you are truly an artist and a legitimate self-made expert in Fuji photography gear. Your videos are both informative, as well as inspiring! Keep up the great work!
Great collection. Thank you for video. After 2 years, that I started to use my XT3, I finaly concluded, that the most important thing is the weight of lens. Now I own 8 fujinon lenses so far. There are: 10-24; 16/1.4; 16-55; 18-55(kit); 35/2.0; 50/2.0; 56/1.2; 50-140 (+1.4 extender). My favorite lenses are: 10-24 (very useful for archtecture and interior) 16/1.4 (for landscapes, close portraits and stillife); 35/2.0 (for everyday use, portraits, street and scenes of life); 50/2.0 (pretty good portrait lens, razor sharp, fast and light, I like to take it with 35/2.0 together); and of course I like my 56/1.2 (king of portrairs). I almoust do not use 16-55 and 50-140 couse they are too heavy. If I need a zoom lens for travel, than 18-55 kit lens is a better choice because of its lightness (IMHO). In the future I want to try 23/1.4; 27/2.8; and 90/2.0. For macro I want to buy Laowa 65mm with X2 magnification. I also want to purchase fringer adapter to use my old canon ef lenses on my XT3. Anyway: I prefer primes over zooms and light lenses over heavy monsters. :)) P.S. sorry for my bad english.
Thank you Andrew! Your channel has been my source of review and recommendation since my Fuji journey began. My journey , in order, started with the X-T3 w/18-55 kit lens one year ago (sold my Nikon D810) then I got the 16/1.4...then the 80mm macro (but sold it)...I got the 16mm ext. tube...then I bought the 55-200. I have 2 third party macro lens, the Rokinon 100mm/2.8 macro and the Zhongyi 4-4.5X extreme macro...also got the 11mm extension tube. In between the buys, I rented the 56/1.2 and the 50-140 (just to experience them). I am now considering the 35/f2 and 90. I do not make money from my photography anymore, It's just a passion and have a personal discipline of shooting everyday in my retirement.
@@allencowley2112 I came to realize that for the amount of money I spent on this lens ($1300), I could get more macro versatility with extension tubes and reverse rings for a fraction of the price than a dedicated macro lens.... Also, It was a bit heavy to carry around outdoors for me and I was uncomfortable with the floating OIS...but that's just me, plus I had the focal length covered when focusing to infinity...so I sold it.
16mm F1.4 was the very first lense I got and I am absolutely in love with it! It was quite an unusual choice (as a starter lense) but I wanted to be able to shoot stars at night and it's fantastic for that. I was surprised by how much versatility I got with it being able to shoot details well too. It's a fantastic lense!
As a primarily stills shooter, my fuji kit consists of the X-T3 with 56 1.2 and 16 1.4 as well as the X100V (was the X100F before). For weddings and events I pretty much just run with the 56 and the X100V only switching to the 16 when the situation requires. Easy to switch between the two and covers well. I also have vintage glass that I use in my film kit that I adapt for certain scenarios like a Canon FD Macro and a Vivitar 135 2.8.
Steve Anderson hey I’m starting out with the x-t3 I’m getting the 18-55mm. Starting with the 23 1.4 and 56 1.2 a good idea? This is for kids portraits street photos and less landscapes
Hi Steve. Similar - XT1, 56mm and X100T with some vintage lenses for fun. It 2020 and I've done 100+ events with this set-up, including sports, and being published in the LA Times. This kit is absolutely amazing and so, so fun. For me, it is photography at it's best. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
I thought I was the only one who used the 90mm for street photography. It goes out with me all the time in my street photography kit. I love using this in the city for long shots, especially with hills. It's been a while since I lived in SF but I can see why you would love using the 90mm there. Great review!
Adam Muise, the long focal length let’s you stay anonymous, so I think it would work well. The closest thing I do to street is on West Cliff Drive in Santa Cruz, where I prefer my 55-200mm.
I enjoy landscape, travel, and street photography. My Canon was feeling too heavy to carry everywhere, so when I bought my Fuji, I made it a point to stay small and light. I have the 14mm, 23mm f2, 35mm f1.4, 50mm f2, and the XC 50-230mm. It’s small and light enough to carry the whole kit everywhere, including 58mm filters.
I had never been a FF 24mm guy myself, but then I had never tried it all that much. Your praises of the 16mm f/1.4 is what convinced me to get one, and damn do I love this lens. It isn't my number one, but certainly one of my top 3.
Dude thank you so much for every video you make. I’ve just paused after you talked about the first lens (50-140) and showed so many amazing sample shots! I love that you are a real photographer, not a gear-bro! Please never stop making videos 🔥
"Let me tell why this is the best lens that Fuji make", quickly followed by "Ok, onto the next lens, let me tell about how this is Fuji's best lens" haha
Andrew and Denae, I have been following you guys for many years since I first bought my XT2 years ago... You have been a huge inspiration to me and an anchor for me in my photographic journey. Not only do you guys inspire me to push my desires in my projects, but you also ground me in this crazy consumerism world we live. To see you guys stay consistent and to prove that the proof is in the pudding amazes me even now. Keep up the good work!
I'm in the same situation and the question is between taking advantage of the reduced price of the 16-80 kit (500 $) or investing it directly in a prime (16 1.4) or the 10-24 zoom for the type of family and landscape photography that I make. What do you think? Thanks for your wonderful work, greetings from Jerez, Spain.
Like you Andrew, I have several kits chosen with the task at hand. Here they are: Field & Stream (landscape): XT-3 + 16mm/1.4 and 50-200mm Event: XT-3 and a 2nd body, either X-T2 or X-Pro2 + 16mm/1.4 and 50-200mm or 50mm/2.0 Travel & Street (minimalist): X100V Travel & Street(expanded)l X-Pro2 + 16mm/2.8, 23mm/2.0 and 50mm/2.0 Special Circumstance (when in the company of non-photographers): Only the x100V and nothing more. Note: the Special Circumstances approach comes from my experiences. Non-photographers have no patience at all with photography, not even for a moment. Break this approach at your own risk: your friends will get irritated, and you will be frustrated and disappointed. Lesson learned, it's about the trip or event, not my images! Thanks Andrew, I always enjoy your videos. BTW, you have a lovely family. Cheers!
my favorite photos: 4:00 4:49 9:04 well composed! 12:23 yes, long focal lengths are underrated for street, see alik griffin's blog for his own take on the lens 18:15 20:21 the boosted colors bring out the reflections nicely 20:56 23:45
20:01 immediately understood why the romantic music...wow these images are on point. The ones that stood out for me are the 90mm, 23, 50-140 and 16mm images. I also do alot of portraits, headshots, family and street photography. Thanks for this review, I wish I can buy all these lenses at once.
Thanks Andrew. I find it very relaxing and enjoyable to listen to you talk about lenses and cameras. I like your explanations. You have made different choices than I, and that's okay. It makes sense.
Thinking about doing the same as well! There is something that makes me want to fall in love with the XT4, and it seems like it’s just a joy of a camera to use.
Here's my kit: - 16-80mm f4 for general use and for when I travel far away. Love it. Of course at f4 when light is low you're gonna be in trouble. I've tried the 18-135 but I was not very impressed, and I don't miss the extra lenght. - 16mm 1.4 was my first ever fuji lens. Insane!! I used to always shot with it before I got the 16-80mm, (which now made me a little bit lazy) but there's one big problem with the 16 though: it has terrible coma! I wish I could use it for astrophotography, but it forces me to crop a lot. (I'm considering the samyang 12mm f2 for that). - 50-140mm f2.8 which I bought for landscape and general telephoto stuff, and is of course the only lens I use when I do portraiture. It IS sharp. Also I'd use it for deep astrophotography some day. - 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 which I bought at a very affordable price only for those rare situations where I need very long reach. It is a very good lens, but I honestly didn't use it very much. I'd also try this lens for deep astrophotography. - also, I own the 2x teleconverter which is compact and can be handy sometimes. It does take away some sharpeness however, problably the 1.4x is the better choice. Used to have the 35mm f2 but I sold it in favor of the 16-80. I think I regret that decision a bit now, I'm missing the 50mm equivalent even though I'd rarely use it during portraits. I'm looking for alternatives, maybe the new XC 35 or the crazy mitakon f0.95... Also the 56mm is always in my head, I'd really like to try it out. p.s. the 50mm f1 is always in my head too ahah
I have and use most of these primes, and they're really great...but the one I get myself always going back to is the Mitakon 0.95...just gorgeous images...
I love my 23mm f1.4. It's my default lens. It's like putting my eyes on my camera lol Btw, my 2nd fav is 90mm f2. Really stunning image. Long focal length really helps in shooting stage photography
Excellent stuff. I have a very old and simple setup. I have an XT1, 18-55 2.8-4, a collection of manual lenses (12mm 2.8, 25mm 1.8, 35mm 1.2, and 55mm 1.4), and a Canon adapter and speedbooster for my EF 50mm 1.8, and 85mm 1.8.
@@nopunintended5096 I use the Viltrox EF-FX2. It works pretty good for me. Used it for pro work too. The autofocus hunts a little but I'm okay with it. Probably more to do with my aging XT1 than the speedbooster.
My kit: - Fuji xt-3 - fuji xf 35mm f2 I just rent lenses when I want to use them. Pretty affordable and when you don't use them every day it's a great alternative. I'm probably going to sell my 35mm and get a second hand 50mm f2.
You're very helpful. I switched from the XT-2 and some nice lenses to Sony's A7R3. I'm really thinking of switching back because of the weight, (though I'll miss the full-frame Sony).
Great content bro. Thank you. I’m just getting back into photography after a 20 year hiatus. After 3 months of watching reviews and such I decided on a used xt-1 and the “kit” lens to get started. You just gained a sub. 👍🏻👊🏻✌🏻
By far my favorite Fuji review video I have ever watched! Beyond helpful and inspiring. Your reviews/explanations on each lens REALLY helped me make decisions on future fuji purchases. THANK YOU!
Thanks for this, Andrew. I especially appreciated your comments on how well suited the 16mm is to capturing family. I also have the 56mm, and while there’s definitely some magic in it, I’ve taken my favourite pictures of my daughter with the 16mm, I’m sure. You’re so right that the way this wide angle exaggerates features just works so well with kids. I bought it after watching one of her earlier reviews of the lens, and we’ve since managed to get a few memorable pictures of each other that we’ll have for a long time, so thank you again for sharing your thoughts.
I got rid of my X-t3 and a lot of my lenses (that you had on the table) as I was getting paralysed in thought, trying to work out which to take out with me. Almost anxiety inducing. I use an X-E3 with cheap old vintage primes now. Usually a Pentax Tak 35mm. Enjoying the manual focus life for a bit! If you’ve not tried them already I thoroughly recommend trying adapted Pentax 110 lenses. So flawed and limited but I haven’t had so much fun with a camera in ages. They focus close too!
Hi Dan. I used Canon / Vivitar / JCPenney and Olympus lenses for 2 years as I couldn't afford Fujis. It's a challenge - Football, basketball, graduation, rodeo, portraits. But I grew so much and was hugely grateful when I could finally get the 56mm. I still use the short, manual primes for fun, just like you are. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
My kit: samyang 12mm, Xf16, xf35f1.4, xf56, xf90, xf18-55, xf16-55; adapted: Auto-rikenon 55f1.4, nikkor 105f2.5 ais, nikkor af 180 2.8 ed The lenses why I will always own a fujifilm camera are Xf16, xf90... Both are magical. Love your content and your vibe. Really looking forward to every new video.
My current line up: xf 16mm f2.8, Voigtlander 35mm f1.7 (M mount), xf 50mm f2. I've had my eye on xf 16mm f1.4 for a while though. xf 16mm f2.8 is wider like you said (my guess is because of heavy barrel distortion).
Love that line-up of lenses! My current line-up are quite similar to yours, only that I prefer Zeiss Touit 32mm f/1.8 Planar over XF 35mm f/1.4 R, based on my preference of AF speed and coming from a former user of Sony FE Zeiss lens (FE Carl Zeiss 35mm f/2.8 ZA Sonnar), but both are stellar lenses and produced beautiful images with different characteristic. My current line-up: 1. XF 50-140mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR 2. XF 90mm f/2 R LM WR 3. XF 56mm f/1.2 R - Agree with yours, I am tempted to see how XF 50mm f/1 R WR will perform and would love to shift over that new lens and sell my XF 56mm f/1.2 R. However, XF 56mm f/1.2 R is still a very decent lens. 4. Zeiss Touit 32mm f/1.8 Planar for X-mount 5. XF 16mm f/1.4 R WR - One of the best wide prime lens ever produced. Period. 6. Zeiss Touit 12mm f/2.8 Distagon for X-mount - I love that you brought up this lens to the viewer's attention. It's such an underrated lens. It's just because when it was produced to the market the price tag was so hefty people then choose XF 14mm f/2.8 or Samyang 12mm f/2 NCS CS as they're a lot cheaper. But since Zeiss doesn't sell this Touit 12mm f/2.8 anymore, we can get the lens in such a bargained price at the used and secondhand market.
I have gravitated to full frame for wildlife and landscape, so now Fuji is my travel and documentary system. Zooms went out the door yesterday to KEH. My major prime kit is 23mm f/2, 16mm f/2, and the low-profile pancake 27mm f/2. The 27mm pancake needs some love as an everyday, go-everywhere ultracompact lens. It only lacks close focus. Cheers.
Just rewatched this video as I get closer to switching over fully to Fuji. Really love your work Andrew, as a RUclipsr (pleasant presentation style and passion) and as a documentary photographer. Thanks for all the videos!
Thanks for this Andrew, going on a renting spree after lockdown here in New Zealand,2 weeks to go. I've only left my house once in 2 weeks for a supermarket trip. Crazy times!
You can never be too rich, too thin, or have too many lenses ;) I always enjoy finding out how folks make their equipment decisions, and lens choices are soooooo personal, that it can give a glimpse of the personality behind the decision. I think telling someone what lens(es) to have/use is like telling someone how they should cut their hair. Lol. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and use cases.
Andrew, I really enjoy and appreciate all the in depth you and Denae have put out over the years. It's helped keep me inspired. The sample shots here are absolutely beautiful! Dying to pick up the 16mm f1.4 and the 56mm f1.2 but I feel like I can't justify those purchases right now since I'm a full time student and not doing that many paid photo gigs although I'm always trying to add more work to my portfolio. When I do go out and shoot, it's mostly jazz concert and portrait photography (so lots of low light). I use the 35 f1.4 for most everything and then I have the 23mm f2 for slightly wider situations (and dabbling in street and landscape) and the 90mm f2 for getting up close. I'll very seldom take out the 18-55 kit lens for the 18mm f2.8 part of it and the helios 44-2 (which is like an 80mm full frame although it flares constantly and isn't very sharp which isn't always an issue but I try to avoid that). Which lens should I try to acquire next or rather should I wait patiently till more work comes in? I've also thought of trading some of my lenses for one of the two earlier mentioned but each of these serves a purpose (except maybe the kit lens) and I'm scared of "handicapping" myself
First off, thank you for your kind words! As far as fear of "handicapping" yourself, don't be afraid of that. Embrace the creative constraints. Some of my greatest growth is when I just stuck to one prime for weeks at a time.
I subscribed as soon as I heard you say you aren't that interesting as an artist. That kind of humility on RUclips is very rare these days so keep just being you dude.
I just added my first Fuji to my inventory a couple of months ago with the X-T20 and I absolutely love it. Long time Canon shooter (still have my 6Dii). The 90mm f2 looks fantastic however having just purchased a 55-200mm I will let my credit card cool for a while! I can understand why that lens isn't in your collection but would have loved to hear your thoughts on it. I also have the Canon 85 f1.8 and got a good deal on an active adapter so I think I'll stick with that for a while.
Gareth McFarland - I’m using a lot of my Canon L glass as well with an active adapter on my X-T2. It’s definitely hard to buy new glass for the Fuji when you have excellent Canon glass just sitting in the shelf 😊
Well, I just switched from Canon to Fuji, and the X-T4 should be arriving soon. I watched this video to get a sense of what lenses I should target. Thanks for supporting my gear addiction.
I want them all, for now I only own the "kit" 18-55mm, 50mm 2.0 and loving it and the fabulous (some may not think the same) 50-230mm, now this lens has been sticking to my XT-3 much longer than I expected, it's been doing great in studio with speed lights and outdoors as well, now I haven't tried the other long "better quality zooms" but for the time being this is holding up very well, very excited about upcoming 50mm 1.0.
Excellent reviews - I've got the Xt4 on pre-order and the lens you make me want is the 56 1.4. I have the 16 .14, 23, 35 f2 and 18-55 kit. Excited for these once the lock down is over.
Man, the 56mm and 50-140 are my favorite lenses. Loveeee them. Only have them with 18-55 and 35f2. I think that's all I need. Tempted to get the 90mm, but it would be too much for me. Love this vid.
Happy Fuji-versary!!!! 4 years! I am a few months away from my 4years and also still loving the system. I have the 16f1.4, 35f2 and 50-140 f 2.8 for all the same reasons as you have stated. All phenomenal. I had 56 and 90 at one point and loved them too but ended up replacing them with 50f2 and 80mm macro. Found the smaller size of 50 and wr served me better and it is no slouch. 80mm ..I just love the details and the ability to use the 1.4x TC makes it more versatile than the 90 alone, granted not the same level of bokeh. I also have the 27f2.8 cuz...love pancakes, love the near pocket-ability and also...that 40mm FF equivalent is just kinda special. I also have the 10-24f4 and that guy I waffle about keep or sell...a lot. It is nice to have it, but not often used. All these paired with x-t3 keep me excited about shooting and that is the biggest reason I love Fuji. Just the joy it gives me. Keep up the great Andrew work and be safe.
Man, I couldn't agree more with you. That 16mm is the reason I came back twice to the Fuji system. I have used Sony mirrorless and Nikon DSLRs and mirrorless for professional and personal work and even though those systems have their own advantages I never felt quite at home as much as I did every time I shoot with my xf 16mm. Also that 90mm made me put my 56mm in the bag for a long time(I know I know is not as practical as the 56mm but oh boy is it sharp and fast for focusing) thanks for the video!
Another reason why you should use the 16mm f2.8 WR is the weather sealing, which, combined to a weather resistant body, is a great solution for travel or photographers or the ones who don’t want to be caught unprepared.
Thank you for a great video! I almost bring 16mmF1.4, 35mmF1.4 and 90mmF2 with X-PRO3 for travel and street photography. I think the 16mmF1.4 is one of the most versatile lenses in FUJIFILM because we can shoot everything we see on tourist spots and show subjects really dynamically!
Thank you for this great video. It is invaluable to show your various kit configurations. As a Fuji newbie migrating from Nikon FF and whose primary purpose is dad photography at the moment, I love the rationalizations you gave.
Great video! I’d love to see that video of your “if I could only have” lenses. I just traded in my Sony set up to get into Fuji and I’ll probably be starting off with the X-T4 and 3 lenses but there’s so many that I want idk how I’m going to be able to narrow it down to just 3/4.
I'd recommend (and I bet he also would) 1. 50-140mm f2.8 2. 56mm f1.2 3. Either 18-55mm f2.8-4.0 OR 16-80mm f4.0 (both lighter and better for video than the 16-55 f2.8 without OIS) 4. 16mm f1.4 (or 23mm if you want a little less wide)
nofightsnecessary right now I’m thinking the 16mm f1.4, 35mm f2, and either the 90mm f2 or the 50-140mm f2.8. I’ll probably hold off on the 56mm f1.2 and wait for the f1.0.
The last lens I want to buy is the 90mm. I loved 135mm on Canon and thought I could do without such a lens on Fuji. I can't, I miss that focal length or it's equivalent. When people look right down the barrel on the street it's great.
Am now officially super jealous! thanks for sharing - it was great to see your kit but more importantly get your insight into why you have them. I've only got the 10-24, 16 f1.4 and 55-200 Fujinon lenses for my X-T3. But I also use an adapted micro Nikkor 105mm f2.8D and an old Canon FD 50mm f1.8. I'm really considering swapping out the Nikkor for the Fuji 80mm macro lens solely due to this lockdown. I was more than happy with the Nikkor as a casual macro shooter, but as needs see me get more into it I think an upgrade is on the cards. Be interesting to hear your long-term thoughts on the 80mm. For my GFX50R I use the 23 and 32-64. I might swapout the zoom for the new 50mm pancake but that's not for the right now.
Nice review from one who owns them all. Some cheaper options i would go with are fuji 18-55mm / samyang 12mm f2.0. And i really love Mitakon 35mm F0.95 MKII, that lens is on camera 70% of time. Looking to swap 50-230mm to 55-200mm as it's much brighter (very important for me) and price is really decent.
As always, very good video, Andrew. I use my Fuji lineup as a light and small alternative to my Nikon full-frame lineup, which I still keep because of the great ergonomics and image quality (D850, z6). Therefore I mainly use the light lenses, like 35 f2.0, 23 f2.0 and 50 f2.0. I sold my 16 1.4 a few months ago, because I rarely used it, although I always get sentimental when you talk about it. I'm thinking of trading my x-t2 for either an x-pro3 (what a beauty) or an x-t4, but I'm still very undecided. The x-t4 should bring real added value through image stabilization, but the x-pro 3 is simply... wwwwrrrrr. Keep up the good work and stay safe! Greetings from Germany.
Love this video! Everything is so clear now, I want to start with animal photography. But I don’t know winch one is the best for it… The lens, the body, but even the brand. I know that fujifilm is really good..
Agree with all of it. The 50 f1.0 will be great - some subjects prefer wider since it makes them look skinnier, where compression widens them out. And it will be just a bit more forgiving of tight spaces. Probably good for talking head videos from a tripod too, since you don't have to be so far from your camera as with the 56 f1.2.
Great video from coolest reviewer here on RUclips!! I have every fuji lens and i have tried to sell a few lenses so i can just keep a few but like andrew i have different kits for different scenarios!! This guy called Andrew with his gentle voice has made me buy nearly every fuji lens and half a dozen bodies... This guy is awesome ...
I actually sold my 16mm 1.4 (can you believe it??) because the 16 2.8 makes more sense for landscapes that are shot at F8 + anyway; and the 1.4 is just plain old heavier. If you get the 80mm you'll throw the 90 on ebay. The 80mm is so fast; and brilliant for portraits like the 90mm, and the best Macro I've ever owned in 35 years. Excellent video. I love lens reviews that are based on serious usage. I really would love to see a 180mm equivalent from Fuji though; in the meantime I shoot the Zeiss 135 f2 which is excellent adapted. Same goes for the Nikon 105mm 1.8, and the voigt"s 50 f1.2, 58mm 1.4., no reason not to shoot manual for paid gigs with that awesome peaking.
Great video! Ty! I just acquired a brand new GFX5OR & the 50mm 3.5. I did get the sales. I sold all my Nikon gear! I need the 110mm and the 45mm. The X-T4 was my 2nd choice with the 80mm. Hopefully the economy will kick back in. And can start my product photography business! Luv luv your videos!
My Kit since you asked: Fuji XT2 ( X-T4 on order) Lenses: Fuji 16mm f/2.8 ( Agree with you best Fuji Lens) if I could send you 2 photos of a Sunrise here in Australia with it?) Fuji 18-55mm and Fuji 16-55mm, Fuji 50-140mm and waiting to arrive in few days the Fuji 56mm f/1.2R.
This is the most comprehensive Fuji lens review I’ve seen. Great job - love the suggested kits at the end and your colour palettes. I’m assuming lots of classic chrome?
You’ve ended up with quite a collection but they all make sense to me given the variety of needs you have. I haven’t been through nearly as many lenses but have leveraged your videos to end up with a 16mm f1.4, 23mm f2, 50mm f2, 18-55, and 55-200. The only thing I’ve wondered about is swapping the 23 f2 for the f1.4 but do a lot of travel and street so not keen on the extra weight and lack of WR.
Great video, thank you very much! I pre-ordered X-T4 and was thinking which lens to buy. My initial thought was to buy the kit lens as 16-80mm f4, but after your video I am more inclined to buy 16mm f1.4 and 56mm f1.2 to start with. After some time also will buy 35mmf2. I know it may cost a little extra but it seems this way is more legit.
Very thorough video. About the 50-140, you mention f2.8 isn't ideal for low light on an APS-C sensor... but light-gathering is not affected by the sensor, so it's just as bright as a full frame f2.8 zoom. It's only depth of field that would not be the same, if you were to exactly match viewing angles with a full frame lens. Cheers man
Right of course not. But modern APS-C sensors are more noisy than modern full frame sensors in low light at the same aperture, so it amounts to the same thing.
Goran P. That’s true for exposure settings for sure. Pixel pitch and inherent noise is real though, which I’m guessing is what he meant versus using a brighter prime in low light. Otherwise the only difference between an iPhone and a full frame would be DOF. Although Fuji APS-C IMO has great for low light noise performance anyways.
Have you reconsidered the 80mm lens? In addition to ticking a few of your boxes (prime, weather resistance, OIS, close focus ability) it is also the only prime lens that supports Fuji's 1.4 and 2.0 teleconverters.
What a great explanation of why and how you use a wide range of lenses. Much appreciated! It gave me a lot to think about my own approach to equipment buying and use. Many thanks. Does your spouse know about your affair with the 16mm ;)
Great work sir! I shoot sony and just within my first year and it's great to know a camera company that tries to make the world better. I am looking to buy my first Fuji, my 2nd pro-consumer camera. Doesn't seem like they have many lens selections but I definitely looking at the Viltrox fast Aperture lenses.
*UPDATE* There is a typo on the graphics at the end. I do not shoot with the 35mm 1.4. That was supposed to say 23mm 1.4.
Great video! New subscriber and camera user here. I'm curious, do you not like this lens? And what do you like or not like about it?
we all think full frame, that's something that wont go away..
@@rajusenthilkumar2137 thank you I later got the 23mm 1.4 by viltrox
I use iphone but hate Sony.
I’m actually in the same boat. I’m tempted to switch from my Sony a6400
Probably the best thing I’ve noticed about shooting Fuji is that no matter what kind of shooting you’re interested in doing, it seems like Fuji makes a spectacular zoom or prime to cover those bases.
I use the 50-230mm very similarly. A good tip is turn off the ois if you're shooting above 1/500ss, greatly improves sharpness...
So why did you sell your Fuji 80mm lens? Thanks -
@@allencowley2112 I came to realize that for the amount of money I spent on this lens ($1300), I could get more macro versatility with extension tubes and reverse rings for a fraction of the price than a dedicated macro lens....
So many inspiring images. Much respect. Stay well during these times.
Thanks, my friend. You too
i take you seriously as an artist, your pictures i think are amazing. wow so many amazing lens 😍
Thanks Ashley :)
@Gamer TVG the 35/1.4
Dude thank you so much for every video you make.
I’ve just paused after you talked about the first lens (50-140) and showed so many amazing sample shots!
I love that you are a real photographer, not a gear-bro!
Please never stop making videos 🔥
Thank you for your kind works Isaac!
Andrew, you’re a legend. Very underrated RUclipsr who is from my home state. I’m holding it down in northern Utah no worries. Fuji!
Haha. Good to hear. :)
"Let me tell why this is the best lens that Fuji make", quickly followed by "Ok, onto the next lens, let me tell about how this is Fuji's best lens" haha
😂
Andrew and Denae, I have been following you guys for many years since I first bought my XT2 years ago... You have been a huge inspiration to me and an anchor for me in my photographic journey. Not only do you guys inspire me to push my desires in my projects, but you also ground me in this crazy consumerism world we live. To see you guys stay consistent and to prove that the proof is in the pudding amazes me even now. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Josh. All the best!
watching this because i’m thinking of picking up a fuji xs10! this was very helpful
@@j.durendez7725 I got mine yesterday. So far, so good. Fuji is a great company.
Like you Andrew, I have several kits chosen with the task at hand. Here they are:
Field & Stream (landscape): XT-3 + 16mm/1.4 and 50-200mm
Event: XT-3 and a 2nd body, either X-T2 or X-Pro2 + 16mm/1.4 and 50-200mm or 50mm/2.0
Travel & Street (minimalist): X100V
Travel & Street(expanded)l X-Pro2 + 16mm/2.8, 23mm/2.0 and 50mm/2.0
Special Circumstance (when in the company of non-photographers): Only the x100V and nothing more.
Cheers!

Because of you I'm spending my money, I got the 23 1.4, then 16 1.4, 56 1.2... I feel I need the 35 2 lol and the 90 2... Too many amazing lenses !
Glad I ended up subbing. You're one of the reason why I told all my Sony A6400 and switching to the XT4.
Currently thinking about doing what you did!
Thinking about doing the same as well! There is something that makes me want to fall in love with the XT4, and it seems like it’s just a joy of a camera to use.
Here's my kit:
- 16-80mm f4 for general use and for when I travel far away.
Bought it a few days ago. I think it’s really magic.
I love my 23mm f1.4. It's my default lens. It's like putting my eyes on my camera lol
Btw, my 2nd fav is 90mm f2. Really stunning image. Long focal length really helps in shooting stage photography
Im think about fuji 23 f1.4 for my vlog, now using 16-80 f/4 : ruclips.net/video/dTx7gYXlzgo/видео.html
A human perspective apparently would be equivalent to a 35mm
Loved the music and drama for the 16mm 1.4. Totally agree. I took more photos with that lens last year than any other. I love this lens.
Team Hazardous which speedbooster do you use? I would love to shoot the sigma 35mm 1.4 with speedboaster on my x-pro2, would you recommend doing it?
@@nopunintended5096 I use the Viltrox EF-FX2. It works pretty good for me. Used it for pro work too. The autofocus hunts a little but I'm okay with it. Probably more to do with my aging XT1 than the speedbooster.
My kit:
- Fuji xt-3
- fuji xf 35mm f2
I just rent lenses when I want to use them.
I cried, your relation with your 16mm f1.4 is just ... wow ... so much love
My kit: samyang 12mm, Xf16, xf35f1.4, xf56, xf90, xf18-55, xf16-55; adapted: Auto-rikenon 55f1.4, nikkor 105f2.5 ais, nikkor af 180 2.8 ed
The lenses why I will always own a fujifilm camera are Xf16, xf90...
Nice to have lens for every situation. This video serves as an inspiration for me to work hard to have all these lenses later on, thank you!
I guess. But this might be a bit excessive for most people. Unless you shoot professionally or constantly, there's very need for this many.
My current line-up:
1. XF 50-140mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR
2. XF 90mm f/2 R LM WR
3. XF 56mm f/1.2 R - Agree with yours, I am tempted to see how XF 50mm f/1 R WR will perform and would love to shift over that new lens and sell my XF 56mm f/1.2 R. However, XF 56mm f/1.2 R is still a very decent lens.
4. Zeiss Touit 32mm f/1.8 Planar for X-mount
Love the video. Thanks for trusting me with your beautiful 56!
Thank YOU! I look forward to sending you more lenses I mess up in the future! ;)
@@AndrewGoodCamera I count on it! :)
Thanks Keith!
Thanks for this Andrew, going on a renting spree after lockdown here in New Zealand,2 weeks to go. I've only left my house once in 2 weeks for a supermarket trip. Crazy times!
Hang in there!
@@AndrewGoodCamera thank you!! I needed to hear that. Stay safe and sane 😁
Thanks for making the overview. It’s a really useful collection review.
I wonder why so few people talk about 23 1.4.. it’s the best “one lens only” lens for Fuji system.
I subscribed as soon as I heard you say you aren't that interesting as an artist. That kind of humility on RUclips is very rare these days so keep just being you dude.
I am extremely humble about how humble I am. ;)
The 56/1.2 has to be my desert island lens. If I had to go out with only one prime lens, this is my favorite.
I have the same setup, couldn't justify the used market rate for the 90, though it's a lovely lens.
I'm so happy the 50-230 is still in your kit 😂
And again, more fuji videos to keep sane.
Thank you for your in depth reviews over the years. You and many others jump-started my Fuji journey 2 years ago. Thank you!!
Andrew and Denae where is that Home-Photo-Duel?
I approve of this!
Excellent reviews - I've got the Xt4 on pre-order and the lens you make me want is the 56 1.4. I have the 16 .14, 23, 35 f2 and 18-55 kit. Excited for these once the lock down is over.
Love your reviews and you have a lovely family! Congrats from a fellow dad.
Man, the 56mm and 50-140 are my favorite lenses. Loveeee them. Only have them with 18-55 and 35f2. I think that's all I need. Tempted to get the 90mm, but it would be too much for me. Love this vid.
Is there any reason in particular the 55-200 f3.5-4.8 wasn't considered, or was it simply too redundant after getting a solid deal on the 50-230?
👆
I'm pretty much covered throughout the prime range for my Fujis;

I could get by with only the 50mm or sigma 56mm. But the second lens i'd get is the 16mm. Not a fan of zooms.
Spoiler Alert: 16mm f1.4 😅😅😅
I'd recommend (and I bet he also would)
1. 50-140mm f2.8
2. 56mm f1.2
3. Either 18-55mm f2.8-4.0 OR 16-80mm f4.0 (both lighter and better for video than the 16-55 f2.8 without OIS)
4. 16mm f1.4 (or 23mm if you want a little less wide)
nofightsnecessary right now I’m thinking the 16mm f1.4, 35mm f2, and either the 90mm f2 or the 50-140mm f2.8. I’ll probably hold off on the 56mm f1.2 and wait for the f1.0.
Lovely tour through your lens collection. I enjoyed all the images as well as the thoughtful narration!
I'm mostly looking forward to the 70-300. Hope its smallish.
Really enjoyed this overview as I get into Fuji. Waiting for that XT-4 to ship!
Great video Andrew! One little correction, the 18-55 is 2.8 to 4 and not 5.6. Thanks
The last lens I want to buy is the 90mm. I loved 135mm on Canon and thought I could do without such a lens on Fuji. I can't, I miss that focal length or it's equivalent. When people look right down the barrel on the street it's great.
Very useful gradually going through these while transitioning to Fuji. 🙏
Well done. Very informative accompanied by some beautiful shots. Seriously considering the 16mm 1.4 for my next lens.
Just a. Quick pedantic point, but in the Family Portrait Kit, the camera is labelled an XT3, but is actually an XPro3.
Love this video! Everything is so clear now, I want to start with animal photography. But I don’t know winch one is the best for it… The lens, the body, but even the brand. I know that fujifilm is really good..
Well, I do love silouttes but that one with the kid holding the leaf was one of the best I've ever seen. That's a wall piece if anything!
:) Thanks!
Daaaaaaang - That Fender MIJ 60's Midnight Tele hanging in the background is a nice touch!
Yes! Now if I just could take it down and play it every once in awhile. :)
I've only held onto the 35mm and 90mm f2. I think with the 16mm 1.4 and a used xt4 down the road I will be set for the foreseeable future.
Great video, I reference back to it often. Would love to see an update to the kits shown at the end of this video.
This is the most comprehensive Fuji lens review I’ve seen. Great job - love the suggested kits at the end and your colour palettes. I’m assuming lots of classic chrome?
Yes, classic chrome.
Hey mate, I really like your "kit flatlays" at the end. Very interesting and usefull. PS, What strap are you using? E.g. as seen at 25:47
You’ve ended up with quite a collection but they all make sense to me given the variety of needs you have.
I'm in the same situation now with the X S10. What was your decision? 16-80 chipper as kit, but...
@@AndrewGoodCamera Gotcha. There have been improvements, but still valid point. Also forgot to mention, amazing sample photos
Thanks Goran!
Love watching your videos and see so many familiar scenes. I'm here in St. George and you capture it so well.
First person I've seen mention the telephoto converter! Thanks for the tips!
