    I went a slightly different route. My Autognome Battle Smith is named Tandem. His Steel Defender looks exactly like him. When people ask, they answer "We eventually had enough parts to make a spare."

    I love this concept. I'd probably take the INT bonus 2x instead of 1x and Fighting Initiate. +2 damage is tempting, but the INT bonus will give you +1 anyways and +1 to hit and improve your spells, and Flash of Genius. I'd save Dueling for level 12

    I'm currently playing an Autognome bard2/warlock 1 name Jyart, basically my undead patron is my past lover/creator who's trapped in a Phylactery, so my character has to find him a new suitable body for the Phylactery and write love poems to access warlock's power

    Truly awesome video.
    The concept is solid and fun (like a good robot should be) and beyond the flavor and coolnes, the way you explain the feartures, the level by level stuff its just perfect.

    Loving this build. Oh the flavor. And just the fun.
    Tho it did trigger a idea. But you would have to shave a pound off the Lance.
    Catapult spell the Lance. Lol because of the returning we apon feature. You would have endless ammo.
    11th level of artifcer can make a spell storing item so glove of Catapult to launch the Lance when needed and return.
    Just spitballing the idea here and havnt looked up the rules and mechanics.
    But that Ghost n' Goblins refrance triggered it.

      Thanks! That's exactly why I included the spear I originally started this build off as a Sir Arthur build BUT couldn't pass up using the Autognome instead of a halfling or gnome.

    i would make it a bladesinger, so i can use the armor casing boost instead of mage armor, and with a fun DM, i could heal myself with mending in my extra attack

    Another added bonus is as a construct, your steel defender can heal you 2d8+PB 3/day

    I'm currently making an alchemist as the campaign Is actually not as fight orientated and more role playing and story. I'm playing with a barbarian so kinda helps with that. We did some homebrew changes to alchemist cause it's kinda bad but the dm suggested it for campaign versus artilerist which I was fine with after discussing fair changes. So im focusing a lot on tools and skills with less combat also helps money making as well.

    I am trying to build something similar in AL. Unfortunatly I was told that the Steel Defender only acts AFTER the Battle Smith (RAW). You know, if your mount does not move before you, you cannot melee attack at the beginnning.
    There are two ways to solve it. One is to control Steel Defender as a controlled mount instead of independent mount (see Mount Combat rule). In this way Steel Defender is unable to attack, but works like other mounts. In this case 90% of the time the Artificer's bonus action will be wasted.
    The other way is to let the Artificer to use a Ready action to attack after Steel Defender moved. In this case Steel Defender cannot do the extra attack (RAW).
    This problem could easily be solved if your DM twicks it a bit. But in AL or with a lawyer DM that would be a problem.

    My Autognome is a Clockwork Soul Sorcerer. Looks like Tik Tok from Return to Oz. Voice sounds like a mix between Marvin the Martian and Kermit the Frog. He's the ship's navigator.

    What about mounted combatant feat at lv4? So the autognine gets attacked i stead if the steel defender. high Ac + disadvantage through the steel defernders reaction and with enlarge/reduce to the defender we get advantage on attacks?

    Not a build... but you could play the Autognome as Druid
