Every Christmas now I have a load of comedies such as this one, and countless others from 60's 70's 80's on DVD which I watch instead of current TV. I basically pretend it's the past and really rather enjoy it!
I do the same but all year as TV today doesn’t have the same class or quality as shows of yesteryear. We don’t have comedy’s like this or entertainers presenting shows either. It’s seems as longs a face fits and can do a job like your told then you’ll be on TV. Nothing naturally written by great men like these two Ronnies any more. Shame and a sad sign for human race as most couldn’t understand anything like this as it’s too complicated to understand. They class Tik Toc and being glued to games consoles as entertainment. It’s all down hill from here.
I am saying this many years later, brilliant humour, now dead. In 2023 Xmas, I am celebrating the Two Ronnies as being among the last of English humour. I will miss you, fellas...
It became a tradition for my brother and I to wake up early in Christmas morning and watch re-runs of these before our parents woke up. Great comedy, great times
Not true. I'm 67, loved these two (didn't get Morecambe & Wise), but there is good stuff now. With just 3 channels then, talent was more concentrated and selective of the cream. But there was rubbish then
I watched this when it originally went out as "Christmas Night with the Two Ronnies", the centrepiece of the Beeb's Christmas Day schedule. The last series had ended in early 1986 and it was known at the time that this show would be the duo's last. Watching it 35 years later, you can see how the BBC of old could pull out all the stops and make something very special for the whole family.
Hmmm... I sort of agree with that. I'm sure a lot of what is shown now and considered good now was thought of as crap when it was shown for the first time, and I'm sure that'll be the case for some of what we consider crap today. There were many people in the 1960s that thought The Beatles were awful
Man this took me back pure comedy genius the saloon sketch had me almost wetting myself laughing there's no so called comedy nowadays that could hold a candle to them comedy giants
great family viewing at any time but great at christmas, , these 2 and M & Wise, nd many others, the days when we had great writers, and comedians to put to the screen, great writers all gone nothing to compare, thank goodness for youtube,
Rob Adams if you've only three times in 2 minutes will you better catch up on that and increase that to about 10 times in 2 minutes I'll feel much better about that! I've got my laugh meter up about 20 times every 2 minutes so see if you can play catch up okay? I'll wait for you, now hurry along! 😁😹😬😳😂😜
Every Saturday night after a long crappy week at school, these two guys always made me cry tears of laughter after crying from the 5 bitches who were busy bullying me during the week. THANK YOU To the 2 Ronnies R.I.P
This just proves what I've been saying all along British comedy is some of the funniest comedy on the Earth I would put it over American comedy any day
I haven't seen every British comedy sitcom on the planet but I have seen enough of them to know they are the funniest in the world I've seen variations of different comedy from them and absolutely amazing and I love the dry sense of humor since that's what I do here in the United States I like what they said about shaking Stevens how he's old enough to shake by himself! 😂😳😬😹😁
You’re not wrong there, it’s a shame we don’t have the likes of the 2 Ronniesv& Morcombe & Wise . They, along with the Queens Speech is what Christmas was all about !!!!!
I can recall watching this as a kid in 1987. By that time their series had ended, the previous year I believe, and the BBC had been showing compilation series 21 years of the Two Ronnies. This was a chance to see a new episode, and it was great, especially Pinnichio 2. Little did we realise this would be their last ever.
@Peter J Mallia right , mate , as dear Georgie ( Harrison ) used to sing ' All things must pass " Pitty realy but have to prepare for much worse - BLIMEY !!!! Unfortunately I'm bloody old fashion white hetero devoted olde lad ( should me be ashamed ????? )
They are one of the top greatest , always a joy watching . I remember when this came on originally , really priceless . Grew up watching them and all the British great entertainers and comedians , Cannot beat British entertainment not saying that because I am from there . Bred not born .
What a classic. I remember watching them as a young teen. As a young adult I remember borrowing the cassette from the local country library (yes that long ago) and listening to it. The real magic of the two ronnies is that the word pictures came alive - no visual effects needed, you could visualise everything and if you'd only saw the show once you could insert the vocal format. That's how good they actually were.
In America, Monty Python is very well known and popular, Benny Hill, Are You Being Served, and Last of the Summer Wine are also. But some great British comedies aren't well known, unfortunate as they are great as well, such as 2 Ronnies, Dave Allen at Large, and No, Honestly! ! And of course 2 of the greatest American comedies are based on British shows: Sanford and Son (from Steptoe and Son) and the Greatest tv show of All Time - All in the Family (based on Til Death Do Us Part) !
Nonsense. You are giving your subjective opinion. 99.9 percent of Americans have never heard or seen AYBS or Last of the summer wine. Benny Hill had a smattering of fans on late night or early morning tv for a short while. Monty Python was a cult following in the 70s and is known only by some Baby Boomers now. AYBS, etc were a small following and only broadcast late night a few times weekly on state PBS. I know because I had to sneak out of bed at midnight to watch Benny Hill. None of these were ever broadcast on regular television that I'm aware of. Sanford And Son is definitely not considered a great sitcom and All in the family is not considered the greatest sitcom of all time by the rankings.
Mind you, in the last 20 years, depending on your local PBS channel, some of these classic British comedies have been broadcast on Saturday night prime time in a two-hour schedule called "Saturday Night Britcoms" from 7pm - 9pm in half-hour segments. In the past their selections included AYBS, Yes Minister as well as Yes Prime Minister, Keeping Up Appearances, As Time Goes By, Last of the Summer Wine, Mr. Bean and The Vicar of Dibley. I watch them every Saturday night on my local PBS channel here in South Florida. They need to bring more of these classics including the Two Ronnies and Open All Hours into the mix.
I have to say that the evil Pinocchio sequence was very well played. I've seen movies that were billed as horror that were less scary. Yeah, okay it was rather B-movie, but still...not bad in the scares department either.
Timing- the comedians art- the 2Rs were the masters of their craft, Ronnie Barker was a top character actor. The timing was often slowed down in the old days-probably due to audio in the music halls and possibly also due to the fact that the audience had been in the pub and were well lubricated. ruclips.net/video/LLQZBNcGPTA/видео.html - an old act here but still stood the test of time. The team in only fools and horses were also top of their game in delivering the brilliant scripts.
I love how the other person always tries to guess and figure out what the other one is trying to say that can't seem to get it out! And then what's funny to me is the other person gets upset when that person gets it wrong of what they were trying to convey and then corrects him and then they both have a laugh! First time I've ever seen these two gentlemen I'm so glad I got to see them! 😂😬😂
Every Christmas now I have a load of comedies such as this one, and countless others from 60's 70's 80's on DVD which I watch instead of current TV. I basically pretend it's the past and really rather enjoy it!
Hmm
Nostalgia you can't beat it....im the same....nothing today can compare with shows like this
Great idea!

Hope you're still enjoying these programs. Happy holidays! I never watch anything new.
Can't beat the Ronnie's Loved watching them as a child and love watching them now, endless proper English humour. .Love them
ronnie C is Scottish, you english prt
They kept me sane during my teenage years in Dundee, Scotland in the 70’s. God bless them. X
June 2023 they were absolutely wonderful!!!
Can’t get enough of these old videos. Thanks for sharing.
The Shakin Stevens gag was priceless.
Nothing and no-one will ever come near to these two. British Comedy at it's best along with Eric and Ernie of course.
Absolutely brilliant! We shall never see those days again ... too true!
Never fails to make you laugh. Better than all the tv they put on nowadays
fore sure
yes Ronnie Barker was a once in a life time genius. How I miss this genius comic.
Not true. I'm 67, loved these two (didn't get Morecambe & Wise), but there is good stuff now. With just 3 channels then, talent was more concentrated and selective of the cream. But there was rubbish then
@@cuebj Yes, not sure I can recall any "good stuff" nowadays. Can you name some?
@@Mrfairchap of course.... When it turned off
.
Watching this is a reminder of just how good British television was in those days,,
Thirty years on, this is still fabulous entertainment!
This was recorded in the times that the BBC licence was worth paying!
Good Old' England !!!!!
These 2 never got knighted, yet jimmy savile did, what a cruel world we live in.
Utter disgrace !!!!
"The matches strike back"
Man, that was the longest prelude to a pun ever.
Ronnie B’s last TV show before his retirement, went out at the top
Ronni Barkers timing is impeccable!
Ironically John Cleese is on record as saying he learned more about comic timing from Ronnie Corbett than anyone else he worked with...
i think Ronnie Corbett makes it look so easy and natural we dont notice..@@duncanholding7636
Now 2022 Xmas & just watched this video which has brought me the humour & warmth of this time of year.
The Pinnocio sketch has Nurse Gladice from Open All Hours. Awesome. Loved this in the 80s. Never notice she was in them.
Still good wholesome entertaniment from two Perfect STARS!

they were great together both sadly missed
My Godfather's favorite. Thank you Two Ronnies for years of delightful British satire, humor, and wit.
British comedy as it was then and, still should be, in 2022!
Always watched these with my Dad. Loved the news items.
Classic Two Ronnie’s , always a great laugh to be had
Will always miss the comedy greats, true masters of their art. RIP Ronnie B, Ronnie C.
Wonderful thanks for the memories RIP
I don’t watch live tv anymore because I prefer all the classics
My TV went in the skip.
Yay he got his chip back
Those shows, those evenings, those occasions, such better days.
The two Ronnies were very clever with comedy absolute legends both of them are now together RIP Ronnie B and Ronnie C x
ABSOLUTE LEGENDS
love the why big Ronnie try's to fill the gap in what the little Ronnie's trying to say.
just brilliant!!!!! thanks so much
Christmas Day ,The two ronnies, Morecambe and wise. Would bot be Christmas without them.
True comedy, there is nothing today thast will be watched and still enjoyed in 2048.
Hmmm... I sort of agree with that. I'm sure a lot of what is shown now and considered good now was thought of as crap when it was shown for the first time, and I'm sure that'll be the case for some of what we consider crap today.

I agree, unless the word "Feck" becomes the height of humour in 2048.....which given the way we're going is entirely possible sadly.
Man this took me back pure comedy genius the saloon sketch had me almost wetting myself laughing there's no so called comedy nowadays that could hold a candle to them comedy giants
Just the one candle? :-)
@Lee Clarke brilliant response, sir. i tip my hat to you, brilliant
Or four candles? Or even fork handles?
Hard to believe the BBC ever had such talent on their books.
great family viewing at any time but great at christmas, , these 2 and M & Wise, nd many others, the days when we had great writers, and comedians to put to the screen, great writers all gone nothing to compare, thank goodness for youtube,
Comedy at it's best 😂
Two minutes in and I've already laughed out three times.
This has made me laugh this evening, hilarious. Such great childhood memories.
Every Saturday night after a long crappy week at school, these two guys always made me cry tears of laughter after crying from the 5 bitches who were busy bullying me during the week. THANK YOU To the 2 Ronnies R.I.P
Siobhan Cosgrove I feel you more than you know girl 😘
I can relate to this post.
one of my Favourite Xmas special when I was a kid, a real classic
In the pub, supplying his words, that’s me I’m afraid, until one of my friends looked at me and said ,”lm going to hit you in a minute “

When any Era is truely gone & it is made available again, people seem to feel similarly - that those were more innocent times.
That Watt and Wright sketch reminds me of "Who's On First."
Great to see more of Nurse Gladys , literally in fact, absolutely lovely.
I miss them every christmas on tv 😢
OUTSTANDING , GREAT , PURE ENGLISH , CREAM OF PERFECTION , LOVED THEM , OLD 'YE ENGLAND !!!!! RIP
@Peter J Mallia right , mate , as dear Georgie ( Harrison ) used to sing ' All things must pass " Pitty realy but have to prepare for much worse - BLIMEY !!!! Unfortunately I'm bloody old fashion white hetero devoted olde lad ( should me be ashamed ????? )
Irreplacable !! Both !! Pure genius !!
Thank you so much for posting, really needed the nostalgia boost today! Missing the old family.
The pub scene is brilliant !
Love the two Ronnie's pub sketch ! classic comedy.
They are one of the top greatest , always a joy watching . I remember when this came on originally , really priceless . Grew up watching them and all the British great entertainers and comedians , Cannot beat British entertainment not saying that because I am from there . Bred not born .
Somebody would take offence today and the BBC would take them off air. Legends though
The good olde days! So true those words!!
Can’t beat these two 😀

No comedians like this nowadays
Not many comedians left at all.
I liked the twoo Ronnie's short films bestest 😂
I have to say that the evil Pinocchio sequence was very well played. I've seen movies that were billed as horror that were less scary. Yeah, okay it was rather B-movie, but still...not bad in the scares department either.
I agree - Ronnie C playing it straight and playing it really well - his whole demeanor was different, he seemed like a different person altogether.
R.B. was also excellent in Open All Hours. I pull up my britcoms all week on my phone, I haven't watched regular TV in years.
I love how the other person always tries to guess and figure out what the other one is trying to say that can't seem to get it out! And then what's funny to me is the other person gets upset when that person gets it wrong of what they were trying to convey and then corrects him and then they both have a laugh!
