Season Two, Episode Three - 15 Mar. 1981
Whilst Granville moans about the shop opening at dawn Arkwright bewails his inability to sell a load of fig biscuits and toilet rolls imprinted with biblical texts. The opportunity arises when regular customer Mavis mistakes the sepulchral voice of Granville in the cellar for a ghost advising her what to buy but sadly for Arkwright he falls through the open trap door and breaks his leg.

Kia Ora - me too! My parents used to love this show (and others of the era), and as a young kid I just thought was fodder for "old people". As an adult I realise how incredibly well-written these comedies were. It's great to be able to come back and watch them again... I appreciate the comedy itself and also the time in which they were written. There's nothing like nostalgia with a good laugh attached!

I love love love dry witty humor, sometimes I think I was born on the wrong side of the pond. I also came across tv series My family, loved it, all of the DR Who series, well all but the last one,Red Dwarf, Top Gear, Are you being served, Keeping up appearances, Last of the summer wine, As time goes by, MI 6, also Man about town, Mind your language ect there is a phrase I believe is british when I first heard it, I laughed my "arse" off, and have used it multiple times here, "somewhere some village is missing its idiot" oh that is funny, anyone remember when Del boy was dealing with a rude cashier and asks "did you sue them" cashier she asks "sue who" answer "the people from the charm school"

It doesn't advertise itself with over the top effects and try too hard with relevant talking points unlike today's popular shows. I watch this to relax. It's just a quiet and entertaining tv series. It must be nice when corner shops were the norm, they have a cosy feel about them.

Apart from loving this series i love spying out the old brands of foodstuffs & the prices are gobsmackingly cheap compared to what we pay now.
Also the cigarettes with their own brand packaging!
It made getting your correct brand 95% easier.
Since they have been in the same dark Khaki brown packs for the last half a dozen years i still get home & find my newsagent has given me the wrong brand.
Its so hard for him to read along the numerous same colour packs trying to read the brand name when the shop is full of customers!
Why they had to change the packs mystifies me.
Oh for those simpler days when we had a chance to buy food, heat our homes & have the night out once per week!
Things in Britain are dreadful these days, were the poorest nation in Europe!
    Sigh!
    Thank you for the video

I love all those people that come in through
through the door, coughing and spluttering
on the comestibles in the shop. They are
      hilarious, especially the man who
coughs all over the bread display.
I also love the "Dulux" Dog that comes
in. carrying a big basket with it's order
      in. Hilarious. !!!!!!!!!

I love it when Arkwright falls through the trap door - hilarious !!!
Mind you, doesn't David Jason do something similar when
he was in Only Fools and Horses as Del Boy, when him and
Trigger (Roger Lloyd Pack) were trying to impress a couple of
young women at a local bar and he fell through the space that
was left after the barman opened the top of the counter he had
      previously been leaning against !!!??!!!
This was equally hilarious and also one of the most famous scenes in
it. The other one being the episode where they are cleaning the
chandileir, and it crashes to the ground.

      I love that Sheepdog.
      How they got it trained
      to carry a shopping basket
into the store, sit down and
      wait whilst Granville went
      through it's shopping list,
      and then carrying said
      shopping home again, I
      will never know.
      Brilliant !!!!

There are no situation comedies that come close to this today. The true test is the test of time. This, Porridge, Fawlty Towers never seem to age. Only Fools and Horses came close on times.

One of the classics why can't they make sitcoms like this anymore? Only fools n horses' Rising damp, Porridge, Steptoe and son, Till death us do part, Last of the summer wine and Dads army. All we get now is never ending cooking programmes and so called celebs dancing on ice rubbish.
