- Open All Hours
Season One, Episode Six - 26 Mar. 1976
Arkwright has bought too many apples and desperately tries in vain to persuade each successive customer to buy some. After raising eyebrows around town after finding a pair of shop window dummy's legs, Granville tells his uncle he should adopt the personal touch in his sales methods. Arkwright, however, plumps for self-service and then suspects everyone of trying to shop-lift. - Развлечения
My comfort blanket
One of the finest comedies
Shame British TV and film has gone downhill, they don't make TV shows like this anymore 😂🎉😂❤
PC, the downfall of humour.
The opening shot of the milkman reminds me of those cold, early mornings when I was a kid getting ready for school
I get these feelings when I wake up to a wet day. The smell of air especially. Can’t say I like it, it only takes me back to a time ehen I was young and much less on mind.

Something just timeless and special about this and the pair together. Was so sad to hear nurse Gladys passed away not long ago too. They didn't even dedicate an episode to her though or said something about EastEnders but she just disappeared. She was very good and hope she's resting in peace seeing this and knowing she's still appreciated too. Watch this late at night sometimes and takes me back to childhood in England. So comforting though much has changed. Thank you for sharing as BBC disowned as not politically correct now. We have lost so much of this and things like Fawlty Towers (liked Sybil). Laughter is really what we need in hard times.
Yup she was in a episode of doctor who too Matt Smith era I miss her too 😭
@@MrVavant she was in that episode as a wink to the fact she was in it a long time ago, a lot of the older characters got that treatment in newer episodes, love it
You’re absolutely right.
Agree totally even though I'm not from England. We have seen drastic changes in the US too, and it's horrible. I'm glad we can look back at some of the entertainment from happier times.
😉😉😉
I'm 57 remember good old days when everyone could have a good laugh
British comedy is by far the best entertainment.
Brilliant so funny shame most of these brilliant actors have passed away,,,At least they have left us many many laughs....
"They're supposed to just walk in and bare-b-boom!"
"Bare b-boom?" 😄
Isn’t it more …. Bare b b bum?
@@forestdad well yeah, but to show Arkwright's northern accent.
1976.. really.. holy crap..its awesome even in 2016..

Wait until you get to 2022 after two years of COVID!
I'm watching this wonderful programme with two great actors..August 2022..never tire..of fun and laughter...
..."Two £ a week nothing to get down"😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
ILL SAY IM A PASSING OLD AUSTRALIAN JUST LOOKING UP A RELATIVE !! 😜 The best U.K. HUMOUR 😂😂😂 love 💕 from Melbourne Australia 🦘
That is pure genius .
Jason and barker are the best British comedy duo of all time
Watched this back in the seventies, laughed so much. Walked past his ‘shop’ many times when I worked in Balby and the scene of Granville riding his bike with Bon Marche in the background was filmed in Doncaster town centre market place. My home town
Hello from Australia 🦘. I loved watching this in the 1970s as a child, of course most jokes 😂 flew over the top of my head 😂😂😂 I bet all those Council flat got demolished after the show
This is the first time I've seen a Ronnie Barker's work. I've heard of him but never saw him. From here I went to Going Straight. It's amazing how dynamic he is! His characters are so different. A lot of actors can't change as well as he could.
You need to watch Porridge too
Can’t thank you enough for uploading these. You’ve brought all of us watching many laughs n a great deal of happiness. 😊❤
2 comedy legends together
Aahhhh the good old programs Happy days
I love open all hours it's the best ever. ..
Such great humour , such great comedy timing. Such a gift we all got .
Yeah from Granville
Does serve him right 😅😅😅
What a great show. Love Arkwright and the nurses back and forth every episode
You know what he'd say to that.
"That's just the puh-puh-p-p-puh-puh-problem! There's nuh-never buh-buh-been any buh-buh-b-buh-buh-back and forth!" 😂
This episod tells a story regarding how Little corner shops in UK died...😂😢
A great timeless program 🙏🏻🇬🇧💪💯💗
Very true miss
These are so fun. :)
2 absolute legends , my favourite comedy imo
Lockdown 2021. At least the Classics still give reason for a good laugh!!! Stay Healthy 😎
Not hard to when 97% of the globe never got it after 2 years.
great episode ... I laughed out loud twice ... 😅
'...Constable Bottomley...' Smut delivered with class.
british comedies are the best. david jason is one of the best too
jessie james So is Ronnie Barker.
He was good
I like David Jason as Inspector Frost a lot as well. I did not know he used to do comedy. Just a solid (and a jolly) good actor.
@@annasilverman7984 the comedies hes done are just great. Esp only fools and horses.
@@jessiejames7492 I have known the title for some time already. Must look into it. Thank you 🙏🏻
I like the part at 28:02 when nurse Gladys Emmanuel attack Arkwright with those apples
It was so funny and so hilarious
And of course the part 3:00 when Granville blunt that sickle acting like an honourable ancestor
Granville's like forty
Peace… Shalom… Salam... Namaste and Thank You for All that you are doing to Heal our Mother Earth 🙏🏻 😊 🌈 ✌ 🌷 ☮️❤️
I bet Arkwright would expect nurse Gladys to pay for the wedding.
He dies not believe a wedding is a must actually let alone a honeymoon 🙄 He’d probably take her out for cupcakes (gift from neignbors) to spend some time in the nearest park in their town with her bringing along her tea probably for an hour or.. less🙄 timing it with a cloudy day hoping it’d soon shower or pour down greatly and that’d be her honeymoon! 😁
I've been watching this for years. Granville and Legs are SO young in these.. I love the way these shows ALL tie in for several generations. I NEVER knew how much YOU TUBE truly have to offer.. TY-tubers!!
There is only 11 years difference inage between Ronnie Barker and Jason. They could be brothers....
that guten abend kills me every time.
Love being all the old prices and products. Memories.
Just found this series....what a hoot! Thank you!
Linda Kerr I reccomend "Allo Allo", "Are you being Served?" and "Keeping up Appearances" if you haven't already. The latter is by the same writer.
I agree.
Fe Fe Fe Fe Fe fetch your Barracloth
Enjoyed every minute ❤️🙏
love this series..thank you.
OMG the legs, hahahahahahaha
thesmf1210 I laughed myself silly , so much potential for silliness. We used to have a male mannequin rescued from a garbage skip, we cleaned him up, called him Roger, the French pronounciation, tied frilly maids apron round his waist and put him in the front window.. The neighbours were full of admiration for his feather duster. True story. Last I saw of Roger was at a friends house, I had donated his services for a house warming party, he was wrapped in twinkling lights and a long feather boa. My friends kids fell in love with him, so I left him there.😂😂😂😂😂😂💕💕💕💕💕💕
This is still as fresh as the day first shown
Thanks for your channel BTC! What with all the US gun nut stuff, 'wokeness' and brainless guff on modern media it's 'reyt' nice to see some classics from before the World was burning, directionless and shiftless. So warming.
I agree..great pity...,
It's open all hours and smooth radio for me tonight
3:25 Hey now listen Vanessa…
This is HILARIOUS!
Binge watching a week now
Good morning mrs frrrrrrrrrrr....jackson

You'd never think it was jolly Donny😁
I just discovered this show yesterday and have to thank you for posting these. What a hilarious program! I wish there were more like this today. (I hope the 2016 reboot has as much quality.)
silentscreenvamp
if you like this watch ronnie barkers older comedy 'Porridge', and David Jason's ONLY FOOLS AND HORSES.. VERY good
silentscreenvamp Watch 'Allo 'Allo and Are You Being Served? If you haven't already and like this. They are hilarious and clever
Sillentscreenvamp, also try Ronnie Barker in Clarence, and David Jason in lucky fella
@@versacegang4140 I haven't thought of Allo' Allo " in years, decades really. Thanks for the reminder
Can't explain it. I discovered this show last week
I've rewatched EVERY EPISODE at least 3 times. Why?
S se sa s St St St sto sto St STOP
It’s easygoing.. light. A breather. Best escape. I always rewatch my faves and am not counting and will keep at it as long as RUclips still run free.
It’s addictive ☺️
12:19 Arkwright should open a supermarket.
Great show laugh so much
The new look store looks like jumble sale.😂😂😂😂😂😂
Timeless and a classic. When british tv was at its peak.
Just reality tv tripe nowadays
This is my second time around!
24:23 always cracks me up 😂
Don’t make them like this anymore
They can’t.. different time, different generation. Everything has withered with time’s foam.
So true to the point I think modern tv is crap
They wouldn’t be allowed, sexist and semi racist, it’s comedy which needs to be current and today’s comedy is very different and not anywhere as good, it’s such a shame, at least it ca still be seen and hasn’t been take. Down yet like others.
2:49 We have forefather failed 😂😂😂
Classic 😆
Like the Village shops Disappearing Acts ....
😂😂😂"Come in and take the weight off your purse." Extreme honesty in public being offered is a so much more endearing set of business practices than pretending to be perfect. Like when offering limp celery for sale in public while saving the already well rotted grape and well rotted barley juice for only in the staff room.
"Come in and take the weight off your purse."
reminds me of the scene with the Inn Keeper in musical verson of Le Miserables. 😀
The blessing with having a stammer is that it makes you check your words before you say them but not Arkwright 😂
54p for bacon! Those were the days.
Jack Frost in younger years...
I used to watch this on Forces TV.
Oh th thank you widow twanky 19:03
that lady in green was from anothr great comdey...with hilda baker...nearest and dearest and not on your nellie..
jessie james she played Renee Roberts in Corrie too
Ronnie Barker's knack for diverse character roles (all of them witty and humourous) was a rare one for modern times. He said himself that he loved doing such roles. Who could ever confuse the indolent petty crook Fletcher doing time in 'Porridge' with the strap-cashed Lord Rustless of Chrome Hall.. with again, the doughty and mean (but randy) old shopkeeper that we see here? Some might have said that there were few credible roles for a fat middle-aged comedian ... who was pretty much unknown to most of us; before 'The Frost Report' (and the now legendary 'three tier' sketches with John Cleese and Ronnie Barker... and the laugh-a-minute episodes with the latter on 'The Two Ronnies' [So it's goodnight from me - and it's goodnight from him!'] - that a corpulent 50-odd year old comic would be limited by that in the roles which he could bring to life (and still be funny)? Here, as ever, Barker proves them all wrong!
Was hilarious wen first watched it , n still makes me laugh , but still open all hours is funny but not the same without arkwright
sooooooooo funny
that's our Lily from 'nearest & dearest' 😊
"It's not normally a powder" 😂
For a minute there I thought that mirror was a flatscreen tv🤦🏽♀️

Ronnie thought the foreigner's were bad then...he should see Britain today.. =/
Yep, the country is now over run with them. At least back then they weren't trying to blow us up....:)
Why do you always bring xenophobia into this...go away..
@@susansherlock7474 It is not "xenophobia" when it's true. Go boil your head.
It isn't xenophobic to want illegal aliens to stay in their own country. The UK is losing its history due to the wave of illegals surging their shores.
