    Hey great video, I just got my Keychron C1 and currently enjoying it on stock but after watching your video I'm really tempted to make those changes. However I have no clue what most of the lingo keyboard enthusiasts use means, like Switch Film and Stabs (stabilizers I'm assuming) and PBS keys. Is it possible for you to make a video that sort of introduces people into the terminology and common practices a keyboard modder would use?

    • @its_jeyem
      @its_jeyem  2 года назад +3

      I'd love to make a video that introduces common practices and terminology used by modders/enthusiasts. However, by the time I'd release one, it would be already "too late" as I have a bunch of videos lined up - a very popular keyboard enthusiast, Teaha Types, has very beginner-friendly videos that explain everything is to know about the hobby. I'd recommend watching ruclips.net/video/1NpNygIrnaQ/видео.html , ruclips.net/video/usNx1_d0HbQ/видео.html , and ruclips.net/video/44Wv4OGdmu4/видео.html Happy modding :)

    I got the C1 pro today (keychron pro red switches instead of gateron) and will look to mod it with foam and tape (I like the switches) and change the OEM keycaps with XDA minimalistic ones.
    Comparing the stock sound of C1 pro to C1 (C1 pro comes with PBT keycaps), it does sound a lot better (the stabilisers don't have the glue issue and they already kinda thock)

    • @its_jeyem
      @its_jeyem  Год назад +1

      It’s more of a one and done process from what i heard- krytox (according to them) doesn’t dry out. I guess you’d only need to reapply the lube if it gets really really dirty and the places you’ve lube has been affected.
      But to play it safe and save time it’s just a one and done thing. No need to open up switches and stabs to reapply lube

    Yo great vid! Do you think just having a foam and tape mod will do the trick to make the board sound better? I wanna do it but I wanna see what others know on the mod.
    P.s, foam mod as in the one where you fill the bottom of the board to make it less holo.

    • @its_jeyem
      @its_jeyem  2 года назад

      It would be a difference in sound in comparison to stock. In the video, foam modding the board took out the “hallow” sound of the keyboard

  • @timhill1196
    @timhill1196 Год назад +2

    How big of a difference does the tape and foam make? I just got the c2 and might mod it eventually. I came from a 10$ Logitech k120 so its quite the jump

    • @its_jeyem
      @its_jeyem  Год назад

      From my experience, it changes the sound of the keyboard a whole lot compared to having no tape or foam. It gets rid of the hollowness the stock keyboard has. Some people do like that sound though.
      IMO it's the most beginner-safe mod you can do for a keyboard as long as you know how to take it apart and put it back together. You'd have to make sure the foam isn't too thick or too dense, just enough to screw everything back in place without forcing it.

      Definitely, something can be broken if you're too careless. I would recommend watching a breakdown/walkthrough of how someone might take apart the model of keyboard you got. That's how I started out. It'll be intimidating, but the more you do it - the more you'll get a feel for it!

    What does the PE foam on the PCB helps with? Reduce high pitch?

    • @its_jeyem
      @its_jeyem  2 года назад

      In a way yes, the foam mainly prevents the sounds of the switches from going into the case. It flattens/deepens the sound signature (basically thocc). It also provides extra security by adding a bit of friction to the switch and PCB, less wobble. There are different methods now with different materials that can go all the way with rubber-like pads or mats to get unique sounds out of your keyboard.

  • @daneblackburn2803
    @daneblackburn2803 Год назад

    so the pe foam goes inbetween the foam in the case and the tape mod?

    • @its_jeyem
      @its_jeyem  Год назад +1

      Good question, the pe foam (the very flat/thin looking foam) goes ON TOP of the keyboards' board to be sandwiched down by the top plate and switches. It does not go behind where the tape and case foam are at.
      The order should be - bottom case - case foam - tape mod - board - pe foam - top plate - switches

      @@thesocker7920 I heard from others that they didn't get their C1 stabs glued - I think it's overall a mixed bag. From what I learnt was that when you try to use acetone for the glue - try to pry carefully or go under the tab where the stab sits on the plate. Once you're able to pry or push through, you can apply more acetone (it'll spread) so it'll just shimmy right off. It'll save you a lot of time and avoid scratching the plate like I did. Goodluck!

    Why my keyboard c1 cant pull the switch? To hard to remove it.. one switch got damage already

    • @its_jeyem
      @its_jeyem  2 года назад

      Sometimes keyboards have really tight tolerances - that's really sad to hear that your switch got damaged. There are also times when there would be some sort of factory lube creating a suction with the switch to the plate (with another keychron keyboard). I suggest to work into the tabs of the switches slowly. It'll take some time but it'll be worth it!

    • @MohakNarang07
      @MohakNarang07 Год назад

      There are two versions of C1, one if hot-swappable while the other is not. Please make sure your C1 is hot-swappable before you try to pull the switches out. You can read the description on the backside of the box your keyboard came in (if you still have it) or check the product page of the website where you ordered your keyboard from.
      Another giveaway is that a hot-swappable keychron keyboard comes with a switch puller. If your keyboard didn't come with a switch puller then most likey your keyboard isn't hot-swappable, in which case you'll need a soldering iron to change switches.
      If your keyboard is indeed hot-swappable, then it could be the case that you're not pulling the switches correctly. There are two 'tabs' on the top and the bottom of a switch. The trick is to place the switch puller correctly under these 'tabs', pinch the switch puller, and gently pull the switch out. You'll need to pull a couple of switches to get used to this but once you understand the technique, it'll be easy to pull the rest of them. I'd recommend watching some youtube video on replacing switches just so you don't damage the switches.
