If you want to remove the escape key without disassembling the board, I've found that using a piece of floss or thin wire like a standard keycap puller works wonders.
I wanted to get o rings to dampen my keycaps but I’ve found that cutting up the foam into small pieces and sticking them in the corner of the keycaps it works pretty well. 2xkepcap seem to be the sweet spot of feel vs sound.
Im getting a Keychron C1 tomorrow. I think all this stuff is silly - the lubing, the foam paneling, but i can almost bet that within a month ill be doing it too lol.
FYI the stock Keychron Brown switches are most likely made by Huano. They have very high tolerances, and as such they have a great deal of stem and housing wobble. While the Gaterons aren't as bad in this regard, switch films are also very helpful in this regard should you stick with the stock switches.

Nice, I did the EXACT same mods to my k4 last year. Ghetto foam and super lube lol. But I also added PBT keycaps which makes the typing experience way better imo. The stock black and whites are clean though
How did you get those switches off so easily? Even with a switch puller, flathead screwdrivers, tweezers, and curette, mine feel like they're glued on. (And yes, I got the hotswappable version.) I am chewing up the very flexible switches with these tools.
hey that's a good comment, I'm not exactly sure. it does sound like something that could happen but so far I've been using it like this for 4 months and it's still ok
This is, but you don't need to be hot swappable to do these mods. Hot swappable just means you can change the switches from brown to another switch if needed!
I'd say the lubing does a lot more for the sound than the foam. lubing helps make the sound less clicky, foam just removes a tiny bit of hollowness from the board, but idk if I could tell the difference with just foam
@@Dakun Foam doesn't just remove the hollowness, it makes the keyboard quieter and a bit thockier. yeah I thought about lubing the sides but I didn't want any to spill onto the board so I did corners but sides may be better like you said to get all corners, agree 👍

Hi I'm a new keyboard enthusiast and I just bought this board with gateron browns. Do you think the lubing was worth it? Did the browns feel smoother but still have a tactile bump or did it feel like Reds
Hello, lubing the sides of the switches will help, and as long as you dont get the lube on the legs, it it will keep the tactile feel. The way the switches are lubed in the video may or may not get lube on the legs because it might run down the switch in that direction. If you are able to get a keycap switch opener, that is the safest way to ensure you are lubing properly. If you do lube the legs, it will remove a little of the tactile feel but I personally like how it feels I have some browns that are fully lubed and I really enjoy those switches. Best of luck and in the end, you can always experiment with a key you never use ;)
