Path of Radiance was my first fire emblem game back on the gamecube and Soren has been my favorite from the start because he's honestly just really well written when you start diving into his supports and hidden lore. He's also really sarcastic, which is my brand of humor. It was nice to know that so many other people acknowledged how great a character he was too despite the fact that a lot of newer fans probably have not even played Path of Radiance given that it's probably one of the less accessible games now a days. Also, it's nice to know that the developers acknowledge his popularity too since he was one of the few chosen as a dlc ring in Fire Emblem Engage that same year.

My first and immediate thought when I saw he and the others were added to the ballots, "Memekeeper's going to win CYL, isn't he?" So it's not as "out of left-field" as you'd think. At least I don't think he was. The sheer fact an unplayable NPC was made votable. The masses of 3H fans, where he hails + newest game on the scene at the time plus all main house lords + Lysithea won last year, almost instantly jumped on the bandwagon. "Wouldn't it be funny if Gatekeeper won CYL?" The final results showing him of all characters having 2x the votes of *THE* definitive face of Fire Emblem (Marth) basically forced them to re-evaluate CYL winners not all receiving prf skills, like how Lysithea & Claude were denied ones despite being part of the biggest new newbie boom to the franchise and those excited for those winners were heartbroken that Golden Deer Rule would never exist to co-exist alongside the other 2 sitting in 1st place. Hence, CYL5 onward gave everyone prf skills as it likely could've been seen as an insult to not grant Marth one. This of course lead to the other side of the winners, Eirika now also getting one to replace the non-prf Near Trace they were likely ready to shove on her to be upgraded or face backlash over selective treatment. Lastly, while I'd love to see "Brave Fae" in the game, I've resigned myself to know that it's never happening. It'll continue to be bandwagon after bandwagon of either newest game, game that is projected to get a remake, hottest OC, or some combination of the 3. Or maybe none of the above, I won't know. Actually if the community voted for only TMS units it would be a big service to us all given how non existent they are yet they still matter for game restricted modes. Eventually they will be utterly useless unless you unreasonably dump resources into them.

Sadly, the only antagonists who get the special attention are the women with big boobs (Gullveig, Freyja, Loki/Thorr, etc). Hel hasn’t had an alt yet (trust me I WANT a Hel alt), Surtr BARELY got one and hasn’t had one since, Fafnir hasn’t even had his base unit introduced in the game (and missed his window last year) and only has the obligatory New Year’s alt, and King What’s-His-Fuck from Book 7 doesn’t even have a base unit in the game AT ALL.
I will never understand why byleth is so popular they are literally just another player insert protagonist with the personality of a wet paper bag. Someone make me understand why people love this character
Here's a hot take. No more feh antagonists are going to win again. The community has already learned its lesson after the last two times. We never got og Veronica as planned, who would need a massive buff to be modern, nor did we get interesting in plot interactions with brave gullveig as planned, i still question why people thought anything would come of that.
That implies the community learns from their mistakes, like at all. Baldr is going to win with like 3x the votes of second place and I'm gonna be pissed about it.

Going to vote for Zelkov and ismaire again this year. Zelkov was a sleeper favorite for me. I was sure I was going to hate him. However I needed a thief and Yunaka outward bubbliness turned me off hard. So I tried him out and after a few supports he quickly climbed to be my favorite engage character.

The fact that everyone's votes only count once means it's very unlikely we'll get both Baldr and Eik as meme picks in, people will have to choose and if they split the vote it might even cost both of them a placement. Just like with engage last year or even byleth losing potential voters to felix and bernadetta instead.
I mean, I've long accepted that some of my favourites would never win unless the game lives for an absurd amount of time I guess. But as brought up, do already got some favourites that have. Adult Tiki, both Robin, Marth, Chrom, Claude, Dimitri, female Byleth, Lysithea. Male Byleth seems like an inevitable one sooner or later. But aside from that, already accepted some remaining favourites of mine that would probably never win. Dorothea, Nerthuz, Panne, Cordelia, I don't got high hope for any of them.

The past year I voted for Ogier and a few months later he was added to the game at the end of book 8. Now I want the Saiyan Deer as another winner. If not, then I would like they add unit from FE6, I think that we don't have much of them if we remove the alts, even some of them appeared once just for a special or seasonal event, and that game has many playable characters yet to add (Please Nintendo, add at least Marcus or Elen or Jahn as buildable units).

Eh I feel like a lot of contextual aspects of game design concepts like power creep get ignored and we get people just talking about power creep like it's a self evident concept instead of a specific concept that refers to direct upgrades that are just better in games.

Yeah I know she won't likely win. But I still got hopes for my wife, Soleil. Hell it was only up til the last CYL that she was consistently in top 100.
The fact that everyone's votes only count once means it's very unlikely we'll get both Baldr and Eik as meme picks in, people will have to choose and if they split the vote it might even cost both of them a placement. Just like with engage last year or even byleth losing potential voters to felix and bernadetta instead.
I mean, I've long accepted that some of my favourites would never win unless the game lives for an absurd amount of time I guess. But as brought up, do already got some favourites that have. Adult Tiki, both Robin, Marth, Chrom, Claude, Dimitri, female Byleth, Lysithea. Male Byleth seems like an inevitable one sooner or later. But aside from that, already accepted some remaining favourites of mine that would probably never win. Dorothea, Nerthuz, Panne, Cordelia, I don't got high hope for any of them.
Dorothea i think has hope after a good while, if another fe game doesn't slam dunk before then. Pray for more games that land like engage for that then. But i want better fe games soo i won't he joining yo there.

The past year I voted for Ogier and a few months later he was added to the game at the end of book 8. Now I want the Saiyan Deer as another winner. If not, then I would like they add unit from FE6, I think that we don't have much of them if we remove the alts, even some of them appeared once just for a special or seasonal event, and that game has many playable characters yet to add (Please Nintendo, add at least Marcus or Elen or Jahn as buildable units).
I don't know if she won already but I'm kinda hoping Nino or delthea does win, they're one of the few with few/outdated stuff(if I remember correctly)
