Maps stayed too true to the OG, but everything about echoes was top tier. Game play was fine, but just map design. Only thing that most players probably have a problem with.
I think the Awakening Einherjar art portraits are based on generic outfits of the class they appear as when you get them (most obvious are Bride Eirika, Marth wearing Lucina’s Lord class outfit etc). So that could factor a little into why stuff like Palla, Celica and Micaiah’s designs look weird or unfitting. That said I really like some of them like Hero Roy, Dread Fighter Alm, Trickster Leif and Grandmaster Katarina
yup, that's exactly what happened to the DLC-reward Einherjars in Awakening. They got put into their new base-class' oufits. The Whitewings all got put into the Awakening Falcon Knight outfit iirc (or was Catria a Dark Flier?), Celica became a Sage (although the short pants and bare torso under the middle cloth were definitely a creative choice made by the chosen illustrator Masatsugu Saito who generally has a more bright futuristic style), meanwhile they made Micaiah a Dark Mage, may that just be because Nosferatu was Light Magic in RD or because they wanted to represent her being not just a regular mage with the only other option Awakening had or because of her taking a somewhat more antagonistic role for parts of RD (although rather than the choice of outfit I generally see more people dislike either her pose or the way her eyes were drawn, which... the eyes are mainly artstyle and in terms of the pose I'd say she held back, unapologetic pervert(affectionately) she may be). Roys Einherjar-outfit is him as a Mercenary btw, Ike was the one wearing the Hero-outfit. Also interestingly enough, pretty sure the only DLC-Einherjar aside from the Whitewings (and Elincia) that share the same base-class are Seliph and Lyn, both as Swordmasters, which was definitely a... unique choice for Seliph, I can see how they got there but it's a bit weird when either Myrmidon or Paladin were available.
I really like the art style of Thracia 776, a lot of improvement from the character portraits in FE4 with a much cleaner, neater design. One example is Seliph and Ced who get an extraordinary glow up and look cooler and more handsome in Thracia than in Genealogy due to the difference in artstyle. Nanna, Mareeta, Eyvel, Altina, Linoan, Julius, Reinhardt, and Ishtar all equally have good portraits in Thracia too!
The first thing that hit me when I tried Thracia was Raydrik's portrait. I don't know why, but it's just perfect. I hate the guy, but his portrait is honestly my favourite in the game, something about the colours and textures maybe?
Another thing to note is that New Mystery Marth’s artist, Daisuke Izuka gave Marth an earring in more recent versions of his designs Also in context to the Awakening resdesigns, they were heavily restricted to resemble the classes they were given. Thats why Awakening Leif looks like a Jester as he had the trickster class
New Mystery is absolutely Marth's best design. His body proportions are just right, his tunic drapes longer than other Marths and the collar is popped... And the shades of the colors used are my favorite of all the Marth designs. Those extra details just do it for me. Kozaki's Marth is a close second.
Not going to lie I love fire emblem echoes shadows of valentia art style it's definitely different from what we've got now but honestly I wouldn't mind that type of art styles if they were to do another remake like let's say genealogy the holy war for example
Hidari is the GOAT such a talented artist he also did the art for Brave Alm and Celica for CYL in FEH which is his more modern redesign of their original outfits from Gaiden as well as fallen Byleth too. 11:21 in the words of Bismix: “Th-th-There’s no floof they removed the floof”😅😂
Because Awakening 's Celica is exactly designed by Pyra's designer, and Awakening definitely came out before Xenoblade 2 ,so you could say Pyra resemble Celica Lmao.
My favorite Minerva design is the one she gets in awakening, great black outfit, nice scaly black skin, and also a surprisingly nice relationship with cherche.
I really like Celica's original design, but in her CYL artwork. She looks like much more of a scrapper, like she's starting out her journey to becoming who we know her as now. The transition as a child to where she is in the main game is very stark in Echoes, and her CYL artwork kinda gives you the middle ground. Sure she's a priestess, but if she's learning swordplay then she's likely not wearing any delicate fabric that a priestess would wear.
Honorary shoutout to the Three Hopes Ashen Wolves. Their Three Houses timeskip designs were already great but Gremory based Constance (because no Dark Flier in the game) has zero right being so perfect. Oh also Metal Gear Solid Balthus.
3 Hopes really got the audacity to make the great Constance look even more fabulous (and more hilarious contrast in her depressed state) Coco and Hapi Hopes redesign ftw
I think that Navarre's nickname as the Scarlet Sword originally was more related to the fact that he was a strong swordsman, manking his sword red (thus scarlet) with blood
Last bit at the end, Mercedes had her hair color changed from brown to blond. Its possibly a minor change but significant depending on character's personalities. The hair color either signifies ethnicity or simply character archetypes. Blonds being more extroverted and Blue haired people being more reserved. Possibly outdated for sure. Yet, FE3H had that in mind with Lysithea and Edelgard. Rare opinion but I like the hat. Understandable for not enjoying the hat since it does look too generic for a playable character. I think it connects to her occupation with being a merchant post-time skip. Also, Koei always is amazing with revamps and designs for their own characters and their guest characters.
7:25 considering character design, motivation and personality, maybe luthier was trying to appeal mire feminine to the Duma Cult so they’d avoid his sister but it backfired
If we ever get Roy's game remade I hope to Mother Mila we get his awakening design as a promoted outfit. Or if not that make it an alternate outfit, it looks too good to ignore. As for Mercedes, personally I love her Fire Emblem Three Houses Time-Skip design but I cannot deny her Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes design is peak.
I don't think it'd fit Roy as a promoted outfit, considering it's basically just the Awakening Mercenary-outfit, it'd be a literal downgrade for him, but it'd still be pretty cool if, should they add a base-camp like the Somniel in a remake, he had a casual outfit inspired by this.
1:05 i guess they took some inspiration from romans/gladiators, thats the first that comes to mind when i see it :D 5:04 huh some people in the dev team where gundam fans it seems I think a LOT of 3Hopes designes are so much better then the 3houses ones. I didnt like edelgard that much with the hornet crown, so i love her 3hopes version a lot more
Definitely agree about Mercedes. Did not like her war phase design in Three Houses. I haven't played Three Hopes, but she looks much better there. It was cool to see comparisons of all the other past and present character designs too!
"Celica's artwork from Awakening looks like a gacha game had a child with Pyra with Xenoblade". ...uh... that artwork was done by Masatsugu Saito, who, afterwards would make several character designs from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 & 3, like all the major playable characters of those titles. Which INCLUDES Pyra and Glimmer. Oh... and Summer Laevatein in Heroes was also drawn by him. I can take criticism, but watch what you say.
Whoa why the hostility? Also just because someone is a professional doesn't make them immune to criticism I mean look at Resplendent Lucina or Hot Springs Camilla, Great artists but poor look of the character.
Lol he literally didn't say anything bad, he was actually too nice I would say. That art is objectively horrible for Celica, and the only good thing I can say is that it came out before Echoes, because if it had come out after it would be insulting to her character. Regardless of the artist, it is not at all disrespectful to criticize their art, especially if that criticism is well explained.
Nah I like Ingrid's short hair as it fits her personality and occupation as frontline knight (even when I have a thing for braids on female knights trope). It's maybe the hat and the short hair AND the earrings on Mercie that makes her look too cluttered and not too pleasing in the eye. I probably would've liked Mercie's wartime looks in 3 Houses more if she didn't have the dang earrings. Let my eyes focus on trying to make a pleasing image with her cute hat and short hair. That being said Hopes Mercie is just too perfect tho 100/10
Echoes is the goat when it's about character artworks
FACTS
Maps stayed too true to the OG, but everything about echoes was top tier. Game play was fine, but just map design. Only thing that most players probably have a problem with.
Echoes and Path of Radiance have the best character designs imo
Bro how did you forget Nuibaba's redesign? She's possibly the only character who literally changes genders in between games

5:14 but thats not camus, thats sirius, also that pose is dope, it says no fucks given
why does it look like the morbius sweep pose?
New Mystery is absolutely Marth's best design. His body proportions are just right, his tunic drapes longer than other Marths and the collar is popped... And the shades of the colors used are my favorite of all the Marth designs. Those extra details just do it for me. Kozaki's Marth is a close second.
Compared it to shadow dragon yeah...
7:06 Still as beautiful and handsome as he is in SoV! ❤
(Btw, this is actually NOT a joke. I'm dead serious.)
Oh Celica, my beautiful NTR queen. My only complaint is that is I wanted some NTR with her Awakening design too.
you forgot about Rebecca's amazing Heroes redesign
Eliwood and Athena got those big ol eyes.
Echoes character design is insanely good
Not going to lie I love fire emblem echoes shadows of valentia art style it's definitely different from what we've got now but honestly I wouldn't mind that type of art styles if they were to do another remake like let's say genealogy the holy war for example

Celica's Echoes redesign actually debuted in Warriors. Echoes was in development at the time and Celica was added to promote Echoes.
Honorary shoutout to the Three Hopes Ashen Wolves.

Coco and Hapi Hopes redesign ftw
If they count as "glow ups," I would talk about some characters going from Path of Radiance to Radiant Dawn!
Like Tormod! lol
GOATs back at it again
I think that Navarre's nickname as the Scarlet Sword originally was more related to the fact that he was a strong swordsman, manking his sword red (thus scarlet) with blood
Echoes has spoiled us with it’s art so much that in heroes many were shocked about seeing mila.
5:04 - CHAR AZNABLE ALERT!
I’m glad I wasn’t the only one
Since this is October could you please make a Fire Emblem video on the Monster Enemies please.
Last bit at the end, Mercedes had her hair color changed from brown to blond. Its possibly a minor change but significant depending on character's personalities. Say what you want about the engage art style (I dislike it as well) but Sigurd looks sooo good in it
Definitely agree about Mercedes. Did not like her war phase design in Three Houses. I haven't played Three Hopes, but she looks much better there. It was cool to see comparisons of all the other past and present character designs too!
Not sure I agree with you on alot of what you said for Shadow Dragon characters
Camus is pronounced Camoo btw

FE community should talk more about hot characters and less edelgard discourse
Try to pronounce Camus French, so Camoo
Edit: 11:25 Based
Also Marianne went from great to great to great
Why do some straight men have so much against female characters having short hair? The Mercedes and Ingrid "controversies" were genuinely unbearable.

Most Males like Females with long hair.
This sounds like the Queer element of the fanbase got mad about it and decided to project it onto the normal people so as to not look stupid.
It's pronounced Kam-U
Thank FEH
Also, it's French so some syllables are silent consistently unlike English.
