      Harley may not have the best bikes, but they do have the best dealerships. Sure, you pay a little more and you may sacrifice a bit in performance... but you’ll have a strong dealer network to support your investment. You can’t say that about any other motorcycle brand in the US. I’d venture to guess that Harley has more motorcycle technicians in Texas than Ducati has in the entirety of United States. You can buy a triumph. You can buy a Ducati. But you can’t get them serviced nearly as easily as a Harley.

    Riding a Dyna is kind of like driving a '69 Chevelle. You don't buy one for no vibration, lighter weight or tech. But it's got the power and the "vibes" to justify the purchase.

      Maybe had aftermarket levers. My elite levers on my FXLRS don't activate the switch.

    One of the coolest things about the dyna is the ability to change the way the bike looks so drastically. You go go ape hangers, club style, fairings, or broom stick bars and it looks sick anyway. Super customizable, cheap, classic look and sound. What’s not to love

    I can't speak for everyone but the first half of my 30 years of riding was exclusively Japanese bikes and the second half was nothing but Harley. I moved on to Harley because it's the bike you keep for a very long time whereas the Japanese bikes felt more disposable. If you're a person who trades in their motorcycle every time the next better bike comes out then it might not matter but if you're like me who expects his bike to keep going a couple of decades then you might like the Harley.

      @@erisgh0sted961 it really depends on the model. My Sportster didn't cost any more to buy, own, and maintain than any Japanese bike that I've owned but if you're comparing to the bigger Harleys then yes you have a point.

    It's hard to compare a Harley because it is a different bike - how many bikes are air cooled? If you unlocked the rev-limiter, I can almost guarantee you'll blow a gasket - more power = more heat, and Harley already runs these lean and hot. I'm not sure what is hot for these bikes, but cruising in downtown San Diego, my heads got up to 320°F, so I had to pull over. They got more power out of the Milwaukee 8, but the oil cooler is so big it may as well be liquid cooled; reminds me of the Shadow 750.
    I started off on a 250, went to a Dyna Fat Bob, then traded that in for a Sportser Roadster, and at some point I purchased a Zero SR/F. It all comes down to character, the *feeling* of power, not that it is necessarily fast. While my Zero is stupidly fast (110 bhp, 140ft-lbs claimed), it's not the speed that does it for me, and I find myself riding my Zero like a Prius (but can actually merge on highway). I always find myself coming back to a Harley and it's the Sportser (and the Dyna before that) I ride like a hooligan. I love the vibration, I love the lazy low-revving engine, and I love the substantial feeling gear box. When I get on it, I ride the torque curve, not the power, so I shift a 4500RPM. I do slow but precise shifts, waiting for the RPM to drop to perfectly match the next gear builds anticipation for the next burst of power, and it belts a deafening roar, shakes, puts down enough power to feel it in my gut, and it's an assault on all my senses. I've pulled away from a Dyna on my Zero in Eco mode (power and torque @ 50%), but I don't want to go fast on the Zero - I can, it's effortless, it will turn into a corner nicely, but that's not the rider I am - when I ride for fun, I want a visceral experience, and most other bikes seem tame in comparison to either a Twin Cam or Evo Harley. I personally can't stand the Milwaukee 8 because of that issue you touch on precisely, other manufacturers do efficient and powerful engines better. So eeking some extra torque and power, with a smoother delivery and a big ass oil cooler feels neutered/sterile to me compared to the Twin Cam. If I wanted smooth downlow torque without any vibration, I'd take my Zero.

      Jeremy Garcia I went from a 16 dyna low rider 103 to a 20 eglide 114 and I will admit the m8 sounds terrible in comparison to the 103 but nothing about the m8 feels neutered compared to the twin cam or a sportster 1200 unless you dislike the lack of excessive vibration on idle with the m8. If you upgraded to the m8 you wouldn’t feel that after a week. More power and torque everywhere. And of course you still get your clunky Harley gearbox. Lol but I do ageee with you on the charm of the shittiness of our Harleys

      @@micc4044 I unfortunately traded it. They gave me $2500 for it, which was above market value - they really wanted me on a new Harley. But there is a certain fun factor small displacement bikes offer that big ones don't. I ended up really missing my 250, so I ended up getting a SR400 as a secondary bike once I paid off the Dyna.

      This is well said. I'm a radiator hater myself, that said Harley executed a pretty clean install of the cooler between the uprights. Most reviewers like the new frame and motor.

    Can you guys ride a modern soft tail bike? Like a Low Rider S or a Fat Bob? Would really love to see you guys ride a touring bike as well. I own a Honda CB 1100 but have had some fun on my buddies’ Harleys from time to time and would like to hear you guys thoughts

      Ride a 18 fat bob in the smaller 107. Love it. Has plenty of power and smooth ride. Limited out of factory at 115mph in 5th. 110 mph in 6th unless you shift into 6th over 110.

    I stepped up from a Sportster to a 2002 Dyna Lowrider and I love it. My bike is NOT the bike you rode. Mine is 1450cc and 660 pounds. I rode it 7 hours yesterday and it was great! It is responsive and never lacking for power! I’ll buy additional bikes, but I’ll never let this one go. The best part is that she’s drop-dead gorgeous. 😎❤️

    I have a 2014 Dyna currently. Ive owned and ridden all sorts of other bikes, from a ruckus up. Super sports, sport touring, sporties, sumo, vintage bikes, naked. The dyna is the heaviest one ive ridden/owned and its still my favorite. Great down the freeway, handles twistes as well as i need, and just makes me feel happy. Its not the fastest, not the most nimble, but just something about how i feel riding it.

    I’m a realist. I have a 2012 Street Bob, that’s basically that bike with a 96CI motor. Stage 1 with tuner and V&H’s short shots (Sounds angry when ripping) and it exhibits all those traits you describe. It vibs on road at anything less than 2200 RPM’s. Starts to be more happy at 2500 and up. Recently put on a set of Michelin Commander III cruiser tires which is a vast improvement over the Harley stock tires. Stock seat will go soon and not really happy with the Mids. So that self mind debate will go on until I decide what to go with. It’s quirky like shoes you like but never quite feel as comfortable as you hope. Ride on

    Unfortunately most guys can’t buy more than one bike, the Dyna does a lot of things very well. I’ve had an 09 sporty, a 16 Dyna, and now a 20 road glide. The Dyna manages to be more comfortable than a sport bike on longer distances, but has better hardly than most large touring motorcycles. The styling is what really ties it all together making it that bike is desired. I’ve also had a zx10 and Suzuki gr650 so I’m not a Harley snob just prefer the HD’s

    I ride an old Dyna and it is very "ok". It's slow - but doesn't stop well, it's not comfortable, it's clunky, parts rattle loose... but I love it.

      I'm with you. I loved my gsxr 600 and bandit 1200 but there's something about my slow lopey dyna. It's just fun to ride. First harley I've ever owned and it was instant love.

    HD owner here, Dyna was discontinued for a reason. It has a cult following that can I respect but definitely not the best Harley ever. I've had a few HD's now from sportsters, dyna to softail. Currently a new 18+ softail with the Milwaukee 8 (street bob) and it's hands down way way better than any previous Harley I've had. What people dont seem to fully grasp is there's essentially two types of riders: motorcyclists and Harley-ists. Apparently you love them or hate em. You do you and I do me should be where the conversation stops and just show respect to all types of riders with a friendly wave.

      Well said, same as you loved the sporty hate Dyna love the softail which still currently own twin cam 96b. The original lowrider and wideglide much better before the Dyna frame introduced. Love HD for the character engine and pipe noise totally different riding stance especially on the British roads it is challenging great fun.

    Ride the modern Low Rider S! Inverted forks, dual front discs, 114 M8 engine, monoshock rear suspension. I'd really love to see what you guys would say about it. Ground clearance still kinda sucks, but after the V-Rod, it's the best Harley ever made IMO

    I can admit as a Harley guy that the dyna does have a lot of hype around but they are more about what they can be built into than what they are. I know it’s expensive and there’s really not much you can do about that sadly

    Dude, of course it vibrates at low RPM. It took me a while but once I was able to always stay and shift correctly within the correct RPM band(generally 3000 and up) it smooths out like butter. Rev matching is a must to ride a Harley correctly

    Some people buy a bike just for the "Cool" factor. When I was 18 I had a 1968 Triumph Tiger 100 (500cc single carb twin) and for a young guy that was a cool bike. It was a piece of garbage that couldn't take the abuse a 18 year old lays on a bike, .. and a Honda 305 Dream (reliable bike) could have beat it, .. but because it was a Triumph I felt like I was a lot more cool than the guy with the Honda. I think a Harley has that same sort of affect on owners.

      Love the mechanical feelings of the motorcycle easy to work on Modern and my softail now is 9 years old and hasn't failed me yet keep it serviced as I always do with my motorcycles I've owned Honda suzuki kawasaki yamaha from 1987 onwards. Two stroke fun fun four stroke boring boring yawn intill got my first harley 2004 sportster never a dull moment full of character. Totally different riding style lot more engine breaking than brembro Cambridge lines brake setup. Now if yamaha reintroduced the RDlc 500 v4 or suzuki Rgv 500 v4 gammer two strokes I be having one of those but alas no again HD vibration smell of oil engine noise and pipe sound and reliable they are if looked after correctly great fun.

    Clutch safety switch wire might’ve gotten pinched when the bar swap was done. One of my friends has a dyna street bob that done the same thing

    That is definitely an issue with that bike specifically. I had two dyna street bob’s and both you can start in first with the clutch pulled in. Also it does have more to give with power and a few extra rpm with a tune. But the weight is more of a thing that you get used to, and when you’re confident with it, you can toss it around. If I can toss around my bagger, you can toss around that dyna. But it really does take time. It’s about the performance for that style. If you ride a vtx1800 or Vulcan 1700 than you’d understand the playfulness of it. They are faster in a straight line. But they aren’t as confidence inspiring. Like me personally. I weigh 280lbs. So me on a naked sport bike is like a bear on a bicycle. I had the same issue when I had a sportster. I loved it but it was just not meant for a big guy. I got on a dyna and instantly knew that was the bike for me. It was like a sportster without the training wheels. Meant for a big boy. The only reason I traded my dyna was because of my riding. I spend hours riding around exploring and the dyna just gets hard to ride after an hour. I checked out some metrics but just couldn’t find one that I got that instant yes! Then I rode the street glide and there it was. The one I didn’t think I’d like. But I fell in love instantly. I expected it to feel every bit as heavy as it looked but it didn’t. Out of all the bikes I rode I felt the deepest connection to it like it was a dressed up dyna. I could throw it around and it was surprisingly good at slow speed maneuvers. But best of all I could ride it for hours and never feel tired and beat up like I did with the dyna. Bikes choose you. You don’t choose the bikes.

    I had a 2017 dyna for a few years... decided to do what you suggest here and switched to a naked bike (street triple rs) for a year. and guess what. Im back on another dyna and no longer own that naked bike. why would i want to ride an uncomfortable bike that is boring to ride at any speed under like 90mph on the street?

    HEY! Im a Dyna Bro and I am upset by this video! 🤣 but for real...I traded an R1 for a Dyna and everything thats bad about it on the road makes me a way better rider. I love how it rides, feels like you are taming a wild animal which will never be tamed. Great video and love the comparison. Respect for all the 2 / 3 wheeled brothers and sisters out there. Cant forget the Reliant Robin brothers. They are always creeping 👀

    I started on a 2003 dyna super glide, loved that bike, since have a 1994 wide glide and a 2012 street glide with a 120r. I have to say the street glide handles way better, but I still love jumping on my super glide for reasons I cannot explain.

    what's the "can't start with first gear" thing? I think the manual also said it, I just bought 2010 dyna street bob and I have been starting it in first gear, so is it not supposed to start, or do I damage something when I do that and need to start starting it in neutral?

    The Heritage Soft-Tail handles like a dream and probably the most comfortable bike I've put my ass on and I have an 06 Wide Glide

    Obviously it is about taste, but just listening to the video you are in to high of a gear for the speed you are going. Also those bikes are geared to primarily be on the highway, if you want more grunt speeds under 60 a simple sprocket change.

    My guess is why the Dyna has a low fuel cut is for reliability. It shakes so much at lower RPM as it is (which both Yam and Spite said), I suspect that 7k RPM would severely impact engine longevity.

    Dynas are beautiful so that being said the new softail is very smooth i own the new softail standard love it mh dad owned a 78 shovelhead then a 87 fxlr and they have been getting smoother and smoother over the years the m8 has counter balancers and is very smooth

    I love my 2000 Dyna Lowrider. After a few years I put 10:5.1 pistons with geared Fueling Reaper cams, I think 545 and 535. Im not sure if that is an ideal pairing but with some carb and exhaust work she does pull.

    I didn't want to watch this for weeks cos I thought it would just aggravate me. But, to be fair you were honest in you're assessment of the Dyna.
    I've had my Street bob for 12 years after coming from a Honda Transalp. I've never ridden another Harley. I have upgraded the front and rear suspension, added dual disc brakes up front, changed the front pulley to 30T, added a 2-up seat with passenger pegs, cams, bars and still doing upgrades. I love my bike and would never get rid of it. You have made me think about how to increase the rev limiter to 7,000 rpm. I have a tuner I still need to put on my bike hhmmmm

    Ride a Heritage Softail and Road King next 👍. The softail has the balanced engine too so it doesn't shake. They are actually butter smooth which you will probably like. The heritage softail is basically a 1940 hardtail knucklehead with a modern engine, chassis, and suspention. It really is the definition of what a Harley is. The Road King is a 1955 Panhead with a modern engine and suspention. They shake at idle but butter smooth on the highway.

Crying about vibration and the bike being to expensive. A 2020 Yamaha V-Max will run you $18,000.00 and lacks the character and resale value of a Harley cruiser. People can ride what they like but don't beat up on Harleys just because he don't get it.

    Check out a dyno graph for a stock 103ciand tell me the torque is limited by the rpm ceiling. It's running out of air by 5k, even the super hotted up tc's and m8's don't rev to 7k.

    In the Dyna's defense, it sounds like you are riding it totally stock. You should perform at least a stage 1 or stage 2, ride it, then compare.

    I traded my 2018 mt-07 for a 2020 iron 883 and im happier. Yes the mt-07 performs better but it was just too easy to ride and felt like a cheap plastic toy bike where the iron is more mechanical and feels like it should to me. The feeling of the engine coming up your arm and thru your chest and down your body is what i wasn't getting on the plastic mt-07.

      I get what you mean. I have an 06 Dyna. I've test rode tons of newer "better" bikes, but they all lack soul. They feel too good. I want to ride a big, clunky thing that rattles itself apart. It makes me feel like I'm doing something. I really wanted a FTR until I rode one - it was too nice. I didn't feel like I was on a motorcycle.

    Hey guys, appreciate the video. I'm with you that I think the Dyna is probably a bit over-rated (especially in stock form) I started on a CBR 600rr. Loved it for about 1 hour then got super exhausted on it. Eventually went to a Honda Shadow 750 so I could get more comfort. Bike had no personality and was incredibly slow. I then overcompensated and got a Yamaha Raider sitting at 1900ccs. Freaking loved that bike. but again, I found myself uncomfortable after 100 miles, plus the gas tank only got me 120 miles. So through all that I discovered something about myself. I enjoy long ass rides, and being super comfortable. I've ended up on a Road Glide. For as big as the bike is, it's super enjoyable (for me) to ride because it placates to my riding style that I find myself doing most often. I am finally in a position where I can afford a 2nd bike. Don't know what I want yet, but I want a more performance oriented bike for short canyon rides and around town riding, then have the RG for my stupid long rides. Anyhow, my whole point of this is I agree with the fact you should ride other bikes first. And if you can, get a second bike! Keep up the good work fellas!

    I started riding at age 45 and even though I’m a large dude, my budget led to an ‘82 Magna 750cc V4. Exciting bike!
    I’ve owned metric exclusively and will ride off on anything with keys in it. I’ve ridden Harleys and Indians though never bought one. Anything over 800cc is just ego(and leg room) . Shopping currently for a SteetBob because it has legroom. At 66+ I’m not touring and I’m not carving curves (mostly). A 100 mile radius from home is a fun afternoon. Twenty minutes to a Sonic is cool too. I’m having fun anytime I ride and on anything. Love your insights though. Keep them coming!

    Hey guys. I've got a 2017 dyna low rider. I agree that it handles kinda like a tugboat, especially compared to my other bike a Suzuki 650 VStrom. However I don't feel any vibes over 2000rpms. Torque feels good and acceleration is fine. Anyway thats my take.

    I came to Harley from sports bikes ... if you ride a bone stock Harley then yeah I see what you're saying but a Harley is a blank canvas and you pay that extra money coz they are built to last , they are something you hand down to grandkids. My daily driver is a 1988 FXR and I love that bike like its part of my family and you just don't get that from other bikes

    I will approach it with an open mind, i probably can, i am riding motorbikes for about 50 years. What do you think will change? You assume, that people riding a Dyna didnt open up their minds . . . read my story and then think about who is not opening up his mind?
    I loved my first Norton 750 Commando (and a 1942 WLA Liberator), but hated the repairs and oil leaks i had to do.
    Same with the Yamaha XT500, I hated the kickstarter kicking back at my shinbone and never could get it started after. I loved my Buell, but hated the way the exhaust fell-of every 10th wheely, or the oval cylinders, or the gazillion other broken stuff.
    I loved owning and riding over 30 other bikes from all brands and types, including several Harley models. Been racing racetracks, enduro riding, and all different types of motorsports, and after almost 50 years of riding, . . . . this year i again bought an older 2002 Dyna with a stage 4kit with 107HP and 164nm torque.
    Why? cause no other bike I could think of, gave me so big a smile for the $. Can I tell great things about a Dyna? No. and I wont.
    I love brand new bikes and new technique to. When I had 250.000$ a year I would probably have my garage filled with them.
    Would i start tinkering with my brand new Ducati? no, do i tinker with my old Dyna? 👍😎 yes. Is this frame the best Harley ever made? HELL NO.
    Would i want this engine in a FXR frame ? 👍 YESS
    Do you get what motorbike riding is about (for others)? Probably not.
    My family didnt ride Harley. At my work they dont ride Harley, Most of my friends dont ride Harley. I am not riding Harley for what other people think of me.
    Maybe 1 of those reasons goes for some others. But I think, you dont get it why I ride a Dyna, and probably not why others ride what they ride. 😉
    How come? probably your perspective is to narrow? 😇

    I have 1995 xlh883. I've spent the last 4 years rebuilding it into the bike I want it to be. It's got brembo brakes, progressive suspension , s&s cams, and it rocks. I bought a dyna low rider because I needed a bigger bike for the kids to ride with me and for long road trips. I still ride the sportster for fun but I can do pretty much all the same to the dyna. That's why I got a dyna.

    I'm a Kawasaki guy but my Dyna run just fine, without excess vibes. Brakes are crappy but it runs fine. My Kawa Z900RS is my fave bike ever, not the fastest around but overall I love it!

    I drive a 100 hp sporty 1200 and it shakes like no tomorrow at traffic lights and makes my nuts tingly riding. Handles so well and fast but I would LOVE to have a Harley Deluxe. Or a big 1600 or 1700 metric. The Deluxe would be my dream bike if I only afford it. Bigger guys need heavier bike. 700 to 750 lbs woukd be good for me.

    I just acquired a 2003 Dyna Low rider (gift from brother) and this bike is everything you say, except you need to swap out your exhaust, (possibly mod carbs) and you have a unique issue with your start issue ( i can start in 1st no prob). Those pegs you have take away from the Harley experience. Harley's all about chill and cruise. Coming from a Kawa ZX6R / KTM 1290R boy here.

    Totally agree with you, loved my sportster and totally love my twin cam 96b softail. Never liked the Dyna hated it used to wish why couldn't HD have a street bob lowrider wideglide in the softail frame. Shovel and evo lowrider and wideglide much better than those Dyna. Perfect Dyna none the evo before the Dyna frame.

    The fxr is the best handling frame. The street glide is a departure from the fxr. The dyna frame sucks, but it can be helped with stabilizers suspension etc. Btw 7000 rpm the motor won't handle

      My fxdbd 1340 rev's to 11000 rpm runs on a methanol diesel mix and a 200 shot of nos, had it on the Dyno a month ago and got 247hp at the wheel.

    With you guys trying out some cruiser bikes try to rent a newer m8 soft tail bike. They don't shake near as bad and the frame handles WAY better then a dyna. If you can make it out to oahu you can try out my 2018 m8 124ci street bob

    The 99-06 Dyna is by far the best they ever made. The frame was smaller and the bikes overall were much more nimble. I have an 01 FXDX and I still haven't found something that makes me want to get rid of it. Try the older Dyna's. Specifically one that's decently built. Any Harley stock isn't great. The appeal is what you can turn them into. I've had a CBR, Love the MT07, the k900, just love my Dyna more. Idk man. Not everything is about performance and technology. The Dyna is just....better to me. Not faster, not better tech, just...better. I do agree though. I would NEVER in my life pay anything more than 7k for a stock Dyna.

      @@gunner799 oh for sure. They really only upped the ci on the newer ones. Still an unbalanced twin cam. Mine is an 88" motor. 06 got the 96" then they went to 103" but all still a twin cam same overall sound and feel. Rubber mounted engines all the way through the years.

    I mean I love the power on my 110cui low rider s, the handling is better on that dyna from the factory, but you’re right about the street rod. But for the most part a twin cam was a weak motor stock, the new Milwaukee8 has a lot more power.

    HD's are comfortable cruisers. That's all they are meant to be. If you just want to go fast for short periods of time then they aren't the bike for you. If you want to cruise and don't care about breaking the speed limit everywhere you go then you'll like them. HD's and sports bikes are two different animals that just happen to both have two wheels. You can't compare them.

      Harleys vibrate a lot. Most people don't think that's comfortable. Especially when you just paid almost 14k dollars for that bike. For 14k it better be an excellent bike. However, it's only a good bike. That's the problem.
