Give the guy a break he probably fought with that bolt for 4-5 hours before breaking it loose. Hes exhausted and probably drunk. Just be glad he decided to help the next guy and made this video
I used a 1/2" drive impact (Harbor Freight Earthquake) and a 3gal small porter cable compressor. It came off! Never thought this little compressor would have enough air volume to get this bolt out, but it did.
I have a 460 big block that was blueprinted and dynod at 600hp but it’s not connected rn and has all the belts and pulleys and balancers off it, the bolt is there tight but I can’t remove it without cranking engine. No pulley to ratchet.
New XT Earthquake harbor freight special rated at "1000ftlbs/90psi" didn't touch it. Even cranked the pressure to 120psi, still not even thinking about coming loose.
HolyCr4P thanks so much for the advice. I bought two impact guns and neither one did the job....until I brought out the old trusty heat gun.... that bolt came right off! Extremely hot of course 🔥😂👍🏾
Thanks for the video. I ended up using a crowbar between the balancer and a Jack. I had to heat the bolt up with a cheap heat gun from harbor freight. Whole process took about 30 min.
gooooooood lord man you talk so slow i thought you were Paul Harvey, but anyways,my 6.0 has been sitting since 2016 so its froze,i tried my impact and it didnt do shit,i got my heat gun because thats how i get all my bolts off but i was like no i better stop there might be a seal behind it,so i will buy a better impact, mine is a husky that came in a kit so it sucks and i knew it would be a problem i was right,so heat gun for 30 minutes haha and a new impact 400 or more if they have it,i swear i will be glad when im going in the putting it together direction instead of taking it more apart,i feel like i have parts scattered from here to dallas lol thanks for the video sir, good luck with your build.
Thanks so much! I really thought id screwed the pooch waiting until the last minute to try and get this thing out with no compression. A MAP torch and my old beat up 18V Dewalt and it came right out.
I tried my Makita 1/2 drive impact driver and it didn't touch it. Confused me a bit because this is my big dog tool always beats out my 19cfm compressor impact. Anyway I scratched my head figuratively and took out the 3ah batt and put in a 5ah batt. Zing came right out. Then I used a "Chrysler" harmonic balancer puller.
I recently had this issue on my wifes car. I used everything you did and heat, didnt budge. I tried 2 different air impacts. 1 was rated at 1200 lbs of breaking force and nope. I bought a 1/2" dewalt cordless impact with 1400lbs of breaking force and broke it loose in off within 3 sceonds.
@@SlaneVintageModern I had to use on my 04 mach 1 last week, spun it off even quicker than my wifes car. Sorry it didnt work. Try the impact with a weighted impact socket and least amount of extensions you can. Those weighted sockets are great for these.
I just used dewalts best & it's just under the Milwaukee which is an absolute animal & it didn't do shit. I just about threw that sob I was so pissed. If your mac took it off without heat then chances are that bolts been removed beford.
I just bought & used the biggest, most expensive 1/2" Dewalt impact Lowe's had to offer @ $350 & it did nothing to remove this bolt. This totally pissed me off as I never ever spend that kind of $ on a tool. Then I go to use it on it's maiden & sole reason for me buying it & it fails miserably. I guess I'll try adding heat before I return the pos impact.
As an update. Before using heat i tried an impact socket & the dewalt pulled through & no heat was needed. I have repeated this on 2 more engines & it works like a charm. Note to self, never ever use a 12pt standard socket with an impact on a 6pt bolt head. We learn something every day.
It's hard to remove that bolt even if you got an "Impact gun" some of them are so rusted on there you need to spin the impact both ways to loosen up the bolt than spin it off, I just did a video today on removing the lower Pulley!
Thanks for sharing your experience. There are two different types of tools made to hold the harmonic balancer pulley while you back out the bolt. One style bolts to your fly wheel and holds it in place, the other fits into the pulley and onto a breaker bar, I got mine from Schley Products, American made, good steel, but there are other tool companies that have a version of these. And I agree, a little heat on the bolt won't hurt anything. Again, thanks.
@@busch6062 I ended up using a 24mm deep impact socket with a breaker wrench and a 3ft galvanized cheater pipe over the end of the wrench. It came right off no problem.

Had to ask my buddy to borrow his heat gun and big impact. Got it off. Thank you!
Thank for the hint. Used heat gun and worked well. Really appreciate your tip.

Is there anything u should worry about when trying to get the bolt off can the timing get messed up or anything ?? I'm just changing seal
I bought a Bauer 8.5a corded impact wrench at HF. It worked. thx.

Good air pressure is the problem though if you don't have 220v available. I agree though.
