Awesome guide. Thank you, and everyone who had a part in passing on this knowledge. If there is one thing in this game that confused the heck out of me (there's more than one) it was freighter and frigate missions. Getting the freighter is easy, getting the right freighter is not. Frigate mission was hit or miss, mostly miss. Favorite freighter is large Venator class, mine is only B class but it's black with an orange racing stripe.
@@SurvivalBobGaming Be glad to help you get one if you like. I know the system and went back for a bit better one. Same colors but A class with a few more slots. I found it on PS4 on single player mode, if that makes any difference.
Lol, I thought I'd have to pay all 178M units when I finally got the S freighter to pop. Imagine my astonishment when I found out I kept every single unit. Was enough to fund all my fleet acquirement and had plenty left over change. Big thanks Bob, have thumbs up. You earned it.
I'm new to the game, and was really excited when I knew I can have a bigger ship I can call home. These Freighters are really cool, but I wish I can also just use a Frigate instead of a whole fleet.
There was a missed opportunity to have clans in this game, and having capital ships be the home base. Similar to the anomaly. I understand that No Man's Sky is suppose to be a game that you can 100% play solo; but having the frigate be the current freighter capital ship, and having the new freighter be a common meeting area for your friends would've been the best way to form "fleets" with friends.
Been overwhelmed by the whole frighter thing...got my first one just yesterday after finishing artemis quest and didnt knew what was going on! This really helped a LOT... Great tutorials! Sub well deserved
Correct. Just did it myself and, up until that very last warp, all you're gonna see are the same garbage freighters over and over again no matter what. On that 10th warp that should all change.
@@AcidxAnarchy im new to game and this is exactly what im going to do. As far as all this stat stuff goes this vid was great but unfortunately im still confused af now lol. But im sure ill figure it all out :)
@@MadfugginMax it takes forever man, but once you warp in and see the one you want, head to the station or planet nearby and save before talking to them. That way if its not the right class like S or A you can just load the save and it will be a different class next time
Question about buying the frigates. At 14:25, when you're buying the S class frigate, it has a 33 Combat rating. The chart at 14:33 says Main state needs to be at least 27, so you bought it. Right under that chart it says "When looking at the stats subtract Bonus Traits and add Penalty Traits, but leave Primary Traits (+15)." Wouldn't that make the Combat rating of the ship 25 (33-4-4)? Making it less than the 27 threshold, thus be a bad S class to purchase?
According to the sheet, yes. I wouldn't call it a bad purchase but it could have been better. Honestly I'm not a someone who has to max out everything. I was getting so overwhelmed with info that I had to step back and ask what is the point. For me, I just don't want to repair my fleet and that 33 won't need it.
You got a sub for up-front naming your sources. Coming back into this game after a break when frigates were introduced and never looked into them much.
Great video and good on you shouting out the others who helped you with the info. I'd only say that it's not always about efficiency, it's about role playing too. I always send 3x whatever mission type it is (trade/industrial etc) plus one combat frigate and one support frigate, simply because I like the idea of 3 trade frigates doing the day to day work of the mission while the combat frigate provides security and the support frigate is on hand to do spot repairs etc. Feels like a real navy would do something to this effect. Anyway thanks for the vid, good stuff
I got the flat Freighter of the top tier thanks to your video and class A33/9 after the first free ship decline.Took only 5 jumps and about 2 tries, just jumped to a different system cause the ''fish'' is not my type. I mean 1 slot below max at 138mil is awesome. Thanks for the explanation and charts to all you guys making it happen, i would have lost so many hours and money without this.
I just accepted my 1st free freighter yesterday... today I watched this video & learned I shouldn't have -> & that is true pain (I just started playing the game a couple days ago, so these guides are great to have!)
Excellent video, very helpful! I wish I had watched this before getting my free freighter. I had no idea i could decline and get a better one than my dinky B class with 16/6. Oh well!
Settled for a free A class 34 slots after 5 hours of trying. Finally found a S class today and exchanged my A for S for 76 mil. Finally got my permanent capital ship to install my modules and fully build my mobile base. Thanks for the informative guide.
Great video. Love the content. I learned a lot from you. The most notable is the pirate battle after 3 hours of play and on the fifth warp. I’ve played for 32 hours, I’ve just made my fifth warp, yet I didn’t encounter a pirate battle. If history repeats itself then this is just another example of things going wrong for me 😕
It's supposed to happen on your 5th ever warp in the game and then again after three hours of uninterrupted gameplay and 5 warps. I'm glad you like the content. I hope you luck turns around though!
Sure, but if you buy the right C it will turn into an S as it levels up with missions and have the potential to have even higher stats than your purchased S...if you buy it right.

Hey Bob, would you be willing to do an updated Freighter/Frigate guide? Things have changed over the past couple of years. Especially with the introduction of the Normandy and the Living Frigate. I'd be interested to see how those two Frigates figure into these maths and formulas.
Bob! This is my first play through with the game, so, question: is it worth getting a freighter/frigates early in the game or is it better to play through some of the story first? I totally get that this an opinion-basex question. Just looking for your thoughts. Thank you for another great video!
I have an A class “Battle ship” type or whatever you have in the beginning but, I hate it because that antenna array blocks the bay and makes me crash into it coming and going
Literally the first time anyone's said that. It's a pretty complicated subject man. That's why I tried to simplify it at the end in summary, but if you don't show your work all the analytic types get mad at you. What are you trying to figure out exactly?
Plus the second free one might not work. Ive got 8h game play i know i was at 3h 20 minutes with the first battle and ive done 15 jumps stopping at the space station and 20+ jumps consecutively trying to get a battle and absolutely nothing. So.
Don't worry about it - this is how they designed the gameplay objectives: give you a small freighter to earn money and if you're still playing 5 warps later (having played properly, not just warping for a better freighter), then you may have sent your frigates on enough missions to buy a capital freighter. You're only spoiling your own game by short-circuiting their game design, being greedy and grabbing the biggest freebies.

Why I tell you this is because I wonder how many oldies are playing? Bob you are the best. I have one question I can’t get the blueprint for a sub and I have worked on it for weeks, please help. Hey Susan, Glad to hear yall are enjoying the game! The quest Dreams of the Deep should open random when you are finishing up the Artemis questline and doing your 16 jumps. It happens when you are a system with a water world. I can't remember if it is for sale in the anomaly, but I'm guessing you already looked there.
I'm 62 and just started playing this game and love it. And it's an excellent brain stimulation/challenge at our stage of life. Thanks to Bob for these great vid's!
Lol... I wish I known this before last night haha I'm a total beginner, and so I was basically winging it, and I got that first (free) frighter the game gave me... hahah
I wish i had watch this before I had claim a freighter. I claimed a b class with 19 slots and the next 5 warps I saved a freighter that was that was A class 33 slots and 8 tech slots and it was jet black😭😭😭😭😭
Get a grip on the freighter mechanics, save up cash and loot from frigate missions. Storage Units on freighter allows you to store in the same place as on a planetary base. I live on my B class freighter. Call Exocraft and the Mech via Titanfall during Nexus Missions. I have already saved up the money for an S class Dreadnought, but I might just hold on to my B class, until all freighter hyperdrive upgrades are unlocked and I stumble upon a S class by accident.
Been enjoying your beginners guide and wanted to thank you for the series. Why DO they put those THINGS in front of the landing bay on sentinel freighters so you hit them all the time? You are exactly right about freighter class not being that important now. You know, I'm not sure most people even realize they can warp with their freighters. But, with all the changes Hello Games has been putting into freighters in their last few updates, I would think twice about taking anything less than an S class now for your free freighter. Every update, freighters are getting more advanced, more technology required, etc. Used to be easy to change freighters in late game, but I think it could get to be more and more like tricking out a starship and you're not going to want to add all those upgrades to a low class freighter and maybe have to do it all again just to upgrade the class later on. Thanks for the videos.
Your guides have helped me out a lot since I started a few weeks ago. I finally got a freighter yesterday which I was happy about. Today my freighter puts out a distress call because they are being attacked. I show up, kill the pirates. The freighter gets stuck in hostile mode and proceeds to destroy itself with its own cannons. I then glitch into the freighter, I’m killed and most of my expensive upgrades on my shuttle are destroyed. Now my freighter is all blown to shit and I am supposed to just grind all this stuff out again? My buddy also got the game with me. He glitched through his freighter yesterday and lost all his stuff. He also had issues when he placed a save point in his freighter. I really enjoyed this game but probably won’t play it again after this. Edit: I discovered an easy work around for your lower class freighters getting damaged. Just warp the freighter to a new location and it will be fixed. I’ve gotten a large scale super freighter now and it doesn’t take any damage ever
Thank you! After reading this through about 3 times and using it as a reference when starting my frigate operations, it really made me feel comfortable and confident that I had some idea what I was doing. Kudos to you and to your contributors! Question: When starting out, it is hard to find frigates that meet the criteria you establish. In this time of generating money/units quickly and easily, does it make more sense to get the right set of ships that are close to the criteria, and then replace them over the next few days or weeks with better long-term candidates. It got a bit tedious looking for ships that meet the "minimum "criteria. Also, I know it was said, but maybe it wasn't said "loud" enough (or maybe it was just me), but adjusting the primary attribute down by the added primary attribute contributors other than the +15 before deciding if the frigate had a high enough rating to buy was not something I really figured out until I had bought a few that did not meet the criteria when adjusted in that manner. Anyway, great stuff. I had played 5 or 6 different times since the initial release. It is like a new game every year. And it does keep getting better. Your (and those of others) videos do make playing the game more fun. They helped me get more efficiently through much of the "grindy" stuff that would have been a lot more "grindy" without the suggestions offered.
Yes! I do the best I can and replace them as I find better ones. I really need to update this as the additional points given by the freighter now can help a lot.
Update from the future: There's a few guides on how to replay previous expeditions... if you follow one of them, can't recommend enough finishing expedition 2 as one of its rewards is the Normandy v1 as a frigate, sure, it's S-Class, but as it doesn't cost units to get and is available on all your saves (if you choose to redeem it from the quicksilver vendor) which means it'll be just a smidge easier to get invested into higher level expeditions early on. Just thought I'd put it out there.
I’ve legit finished your beginners guide n have billions of units n lots of nanites with s class freighter n ship n tools n great setup n now I have no idea what to do, like at this am I just doing the story aha
Yeah, just explore, do the stories, build some bases, keep hunting the perfect ship design, read the lore, get quicksilver and buy stuff with that. There is a lot to do still. It’s more chill now though.
I found a system with the color support frigate I like, however I can only ever find the explorer, industry and support frigates. Is it a thing that some systems do not spawn all the different types of frigates? This is my home system (because of the color and it is a tier 3 economy korvax system) so I have spent a lot of time in it, yet have not come across a single combat or trade frigate. What gives?
How does one use an exploration frigate to find ruins? Combat frigate with pirates is automatic. I don't recall seeing the explorer/ruins option anywhere

Nice! I’d like a black and orange one. Those are my in game colors!
@@SurvivalBobGaming Be glad to help you get one if you like. I know the system and went back for a bit better one. Same colors but A class with a few more slots. I found it on PS4 on single player mode, if that makes any difference.
Hello I haven’t played no mans sky in weeks which is why I haven’t showed up also congrats on 4K subs good job
Thanks Ivan! Good to see you! What have you been playing?
@@SurvivalBobGaming you have always deserves more. 10k at least for this phenomenal coverage of such a "niche" (now) game.
Wow, this is a lot of information about stuff I didn’t even know existed. Thanks!
Amazing video!
I'm glad you put this together, it really explains elements I've been curious about. Thanks Bob and Co.
i want to know what are the 5 white circles next to the Frigates because some times they are red but i don't know what they mean
Love the videos, Bob! I just started playing a few days ago and your vids are super helpful. Thanks!

Awesome! Glad you like them! Thank you
Amazing video loved it and helped understand freighters and frigates a lot better
Thanks! I’m glad it helped!
Great video has always!
Another awesome video.Thanks again!
16:45 lol nailed it!!!
Subscribed! Simple enough to cover all corners yet in-depth where it's needed.
So you have to jump 5 times, decline the first freighter then wait 3 hours and jump 5 times again. Is that correct
Correct. Just did it myself and, up until that very last warp, all you're gonna see are the same garbage freighters over and over again no matter what. On that 10th warp that should all change.
Or you could just build a save point on a planet right before the 5th jump, and just reload every time you don't get what you're looking for
@@AcidxAnarchy im new to game and this is exactly what im going to do. As far as all this stat stuff goes this vid was great but unfortunately im still confused af now lol. But im sure ill figure it all out :)
@@MadfugginMax it takes forever man, but once you warp in and see the one you want, head to the station or planet nearby and save before talking to them. That way if its not the right class like S or A you can just load the save and it will be a different class next time
@@AcidxAnarchy can we just like wait 3 hours and turn off the device running the game or do we have to PLAY for 3 hours?
owned this game for awhile and tried starting again this time following your guide and its a lot more fun! thanks so much for posting this guide :]
Question about buying the frigates.
At 14:25, when you're buying the S class frigate, it has a 33 Combat rating. The chart at 14:33 says Main state needs to be at least 27, so you bought it.
Right under that chart it says "When looking at the stats subtract Bonus Traits and add Penalty Traits, but leave Primary Traits (+15)."
Wouldn't that make the Combat rating of the ship 25 (33-4-4)? Making it less than the 27 threshold, thus be a bad S class to purchase?
According to the sheet, yes. I wouldn't call it a bad purchase but it could have been better. Honestly I'm not a someone who has to max out everything. I was getting so overwhelmed with info that I had to step back and ask what is the point. For me, I just don't want to repair my fleet and that 33 won't need it.
Also, kudos for being the first one to notice that in all this time!
@@SurvivalBobGaming awesome, thanks for the reply!
Me who just accepted my first c class freighter for free: I see..
Then you know exactly how i feel XD
wtf u mean for free it only cheapened it for me
So why is it so important to get a good freighter as first one?
Loving these tutorials really helpful thanks
Glad to hear it! Thanks!
Thanks! and I agree with the roll play idea, I've kinda gotten to this myself in my playthroughs recently. It makes it more immersive and fun for me.
Holy shit i just bought a b class freighter willy nilly cause i needed more storage...apparently my capital ship isnt too bad 😏
freighter.
I learned a lot here! Thanks so much for telling me about the glorious chart!
9:04 My gosh, I havent heard that in a long time...
👏👏👏👏👏👏💖 Standing ovation. Well Done.
Thank you KJ! I appreciate everything!
I just accepted my 1st free freighter yesterday... today I watched this video & learned I shouldn't have -> & that is true pain (I just started playing the game a couple days ago, so these guides are great to have!)
It’s okay. Get rich and buy another one.
Excellent video, very helpful! I wish I had watched this before getting my free freighter. I had no idea i could decline and get a better one than my dinky B class with 16/6. Oh well!
Right?! And if i had seen this video two hours sooner I'd have been good😒
hey! loved the vid. keep up the good work!
Thank you! Hope to see you in Stream again soon!
Ain't nobody got time for that meme means instant like and subscribe
Helpful and funny i appreciate you making this video!
Settled for a free A class 34 slots after 5 hours of trying. Finally found a S class today and exchanged my A for S for 76 mil. Finally got my permanent capital ship to install my modules and fully build my mobile base. Thanks for the informative guide.
That’s great. I still need to upgrade mine to an S Class. So I can pimp it out. LOL
SurvivalBob q
Do we have to fight the pirates to get a freighter. Am sulking at killing pirates :(
Virginia Vaughn you can buy any one you can land in. A good one is over $100MM
Virginia Vaughn you can just damage a single ship and run around until they die of npcs ( itll take longer so if your patient you can do that )
i know i’m extremely late, but i love your videos! they are so helpful.
Great video! I knew most of this but didn’t know about the frigate level system so I’ll probably need to trash some of them and get new ones lol
Found you a week ago, and these videos are helpful bro thank you 🤟🏻
Glad they are helping!
" I have very few original thoughts..." lmao too good, man.
3:15 That got an automatic like! lol...
Bob i have 1 s , a , b support frigates and yhey have really good stats better than any c or b ones at the very least
Sure, but if you buy the right C it will turn into an S as it levels up with missions and have the potential to have even higher stats than your purchased S...if you buy it right.
@@SurvivalBobGaming k oh and if you ar3 ever in euclid galaxy come to my active indium farm i have a 3 star economy that gives two types of exotics one is squid the other is the weird one with a single fin the one you sold the most when waiting in sace stations

It’s totally worth it. They will bring back so much stuff you wouldn’t/couldn’t otherwise get early game. And that a fact! 😂
@@SurvivalBobGaming Awesome! I'll give it a shot.

@@russiansleeperagent8249 Sure am!
wish i saw this before it took my free ship last night and sent one ship on a mission....lol
THIS is super helpful... thanks!
I have an A class “Battle ship” type or whatever you have in the beginning but, I hate it because that antenna array blocks the bay and makes me crash into it coming and going
I think it's so worth the small annoyance because the ships are sexy as hell.
This guy explains so complicated! I did not know anything and I search for beginner guide! This felt like not beginner at all!
Literally the first time anyone's said that. It's a pretty complicated subject man. That's why I tried to simplify it at the end in summary, but if you don't show your work all the analytic types get mad at you. What are you trying to figure out exactly?
I already took the smaller free one, guess I'll have to buy a large one now :(
who cares when you can do an economy crash so easily with cobalt lol.
Plus the second free one might not work. Ive got 8h game play i know i was at 3h 20 minutes with the first battle and ive done 15 jumps stopping at the space station and 20+ jumps consecutively trying to get a battle and absolutely nothing. So.
I just restarted lol.
This helped alot thank you I had no idea how to tell if frigates were good or not
Hello to you all, I am having a blast playing this game so is my husband, we do argue about who’s turn it is. To tell you a little secret I will be 70 and my husband is 68. Why I tell you this is because I wonder how many oldies are playing? Bob you are the best. I have one question I can’t get the blueprint for a sub and I have worked on it for weeks, please help.
Thank you so much,
Susan
Very usefull and informative video. Thanks bro.
Thank you!
I'm not a numbers guy, so thank you for you're easy breakdown of stats. Great tutorial!
Thanks man. I’ve been thinking the same thing...may have to update it again soon.
Just mind blown thx for info
Very Helpful. Thank you.
Amazing info thank you so much.
Great job. Thank you.
Ps. I liked the comedy add ins.... nice touch.
Good! I’m glad you like them. Thank you for letting me know. I’ll try that again if I can.
What do you use the mountain of Chlorine for?
I sell it at stations that also sell it. That crashes the market demand, then I buy it all back. I make about 100 million each time.
Why do I get 3 of 5 missions that are one star when my frigates are all S and A class?
Update from the future: There's a few guides on how to replay previous expeditions... if you follow one of them, can't recommend enough finishing expedition 2 as one of its rewards is the Normandy v1 as a frigate, sure, it's S-Class, but as it doesn't cost units to get and is available on all your saves (if you choose to redeem it from the quicksilver vendor) which means it'll be just a smidge easier to get invested into higher level expeditions early on. Just thought I'd put it out there.
I really don't understand how you are getting the base stats. Please help I don't get add theses numbers but minus negative numbers, just simple plz
Thank you for the video
Thanks for the info. My first freighter was a S class!
I just got into the game and I'm having fun simply discovering all life on a planet but we got pirates...in space. I'm sold :-)
What gives?
Some do not spawn all frigates.
What system was that earth-like planet located in at 9:10
How does one use an exploration frigate to find ruins? Combat frigate with pirates is automatic. I don't recall seeing the explorer/ruins option anywhere
