    I have been using the XL2546 specifically for it's DyAc. I had been searching for years looking for a CRT-like experience, Then in 2017 I finally found it! It's important for your fps to at least nearly match the refresh rate for that amazing clarity though. I found that DyAc works perfectly all the way down to 100hz (double strobing below 100hz). So if 100fps is all you can muster up at 1080p, set it to 100hz. You will be in CRT heaven! I can live without single strobing down at 60hz because that is when the strobing flicker actually becomes noticeable anyway.

      @notblazedfordays9536 2 года назад +1

      If you’re playing 1080p and can only muster up 100hz it’s time to upgrade your GPU and CPU lol

      @@notblazedfordays9536 ahah yeah that can be the case if you don't play just e-sports titles,, What I mean is - depending on what I'm playing, sometimes I wanna turn up graphics settings where having the best input lag is not important. Zero motion blur is my main priority. Also some games just don't do high fps even at 1080p. btw i'm using a 5700xt paired with a 5600x.

    • @BlurBusters
      @BlurBusters 2 года назад +3

      framerate=Hz during strobing looks great, if your priority is CRT-like rather than lower esports. 100fps 100Hz strobed can look visually better than 500fps-240Hz because it's perfect Nintendo-smooth pans, especially with Razer 8Khz mouse (set to at least 2KHz), because with DyAc, the 1000Hz mouse pollrate jitters too much. With 2000Hz+ (on Razer 8KHz) mouseturns is as perfectly smooth as keyboard strafe left/right. Strobing amplifies jitter visibility so much, that further improvements actually become visible.
      Also, consider trying the XG2431. Perfect zero strobe crosstalk (no trailing double images even for top/center/bottom) for a custom 100Hz QFT mode (latency-reducing 100Hz via transmitting a 100Hz refresh cycle in a mere 1/240sec over the video cable), and re-tuned via ViewSonic Strobe Utility windows app (developed by Blur Busters). It looks even clearer than DyAc if you hate strobe crosstalk. Another perfect-zero-crosstalk is the VR headsets of Oculus Quest 2 and the Valve Index -- they are pre-tuned CRT-clarity LCDs that are even better than XL2546.
      Long term, strobing will become obsolete with blurfree sample and hold (e.g. 1000fps 1000Hz), but for now we're stuck with strobing as the method of blur reduction, rather than brute framerate. (Double Hz and framerate without DyAc = motion blur is only halved. So you have to keep doubling Hz and framerate, until the blur is gone without needing strobing. 480fps 480Hz will have half the motion blur of 240fps 240Hz without needing DyAc)

    • @adamochi854
      @adamochi854 2 года назад

      @@BlurBusters That's interesting about the mouse polling rate having jitter at even 1khz. It's totally noticable comparing strafing in-game to mouse movement, or even using a gamepad. Just as it is noticeable stepping up from lower polling rates.
      Would you say it could somewhat be related to the refresh rate of the screen not being an even factor of the mouse polling rate? Like how capping the frame rate to a factor of the refresh rate is smoother? I have been playing fps games at 200hz because its much clearer than 240. Perhaps 200 being a factor of 1000🤔or just this xl2546 barely has the response time for that refresh

    Great vid!
    One thing worth mentioning is that pixel response times are most commonly measured with GtG (grey to grey) averages, however cranking the overdrive up can show the monitor do fine switching from one colour to another (say GtG), but horribly with a different transition.
    HUB has good graphs that show the transitions ranging from 0 to 255.

    Glad to see you're still on it! Great content with a lot of useful information. This will be one of the reference videos i'll keep saved for when i need to give buying advice. (Which happens a lot with monitors.)
    There are other high-end VA panels that can hold up with IPS in terms of response times. The Asus PG35VQ and Acer Predator X35 also have very fast average response times, albeit while still suffering from slower dark transitions. But these two monitors are the only ones i know of that use that particular 200Hz VA HDR panel. To my eyes it looks as good as the LG 27GN950-B / LG 27GN850-B in terms of motion clarity, which says a lot. And the games that need good response times are typically bright enough to mostly eliminate dark smearing (excluding Tarkov).

    I think VA is a solid buy if you care more about picture quality than motion. While smearing can totally be a thing, it's not that bad and other than the contrast, you also have the lack of IPS glow that can complicate the contrast issue in IPS display even more (although most seem to be decent these days)
    Totally agree about the compliance and response time though, which is why LCD still has its place even compared to OLED. I sometime found Tim from HUB's claim that OLED with its 2 ms response time is 'twice as fast' compared to LCD Neo G7 4 ms to be quite ridiculous even though they are technically true. You really don't need a response time faster than 4 ms for 144hz and 6 mis for 240hz to have a clear motion.
    It's the sum of all of its advantage that makes OLED great as a gaming monitor but the gap is smaller than most people think (because you also have some trade-off to deal with as well)

      @@BijanJamshidi Mostly the stuff i mentioned above is what put me off. Color fringing (because of the subpixel layout), fan noise that varies a lot across different units, color accuracity falling off significantly at high luminance in HDR, flickering in some games with G-Sync enabled (Only a small problem from what i've seen and in very few games.)
      Currently i'm still set with my PG35VQ and i'll wait and see what LG's 42" C2 and Sony's 42" OLED will bring before i'll decide to upgrade to OLED or stay with my LCD for another generation.

    You have come a long way since I last commented on one of your videos, well done. It is a shame to see so few views on such an informative and well produced video but unfortunately the reality is that the same reason that boxes saying "1ms response time and 100000000000000:1 contrast ratio" sell monitors is because people consistently will not commit to learning the details, even when presented like this. And Samsung was able to get away with jumping on the 240hz train using the same VA panel tech they had been using and selling to others for several years prior (and measuring terribly) then exit the LCD industry altogether as they have just announced.
    Your visualizations are pleasing to look at and effective, honestly great work. The only thing I can add (which you partially covered) is that every pixel will reach compliance at a different rate depending on what state it was changing from and what state it is changing to, overall you could definitely measure and possibly perceive a difference between a monitor where 85% of the pixels were reaching compliance after 1ms vs a monitor where 85% of the pixels were reaching compliance
