- I wanted a way to display a few collectibles and I decided to install some IKEA Besta frames w/ clear glass doors. This was a much bigger projects than I had anticipated but I'm pretty happy with the results.
The set up looks really good! Well done!
You're lucky to have an Ikea so close ;)
It is definitely nice to have IKEA close by.
So this video is five years old and prior to moving the whole man cave, just so you know. It was cool for it's time though!
So glad I came across this as I have a massive space over my PC desk and I forgot that IKEA have that rail system.
I must ask though which omlopp strip light size did you put inside the cabinets? As that will provide the right amount of light for my sideshow collectables stuff.
The strip lights inside the cabinets are 18"
Looks awesome I’m definitely do this for my display!
Great Video, liked the project very much. I kinda didn't want the project finished just yet :) lol but all in all, I enjoyed it.
Man, I was ready for it to end a couple hours in 😂.
Looks great
This video was incredibly helpful, thank you
Love the display man! I think Bestas look so much better with the glass door and LED on the inside. Without the glass door to me it looks unfinished.
Nice video.... was hoping to find help on the basic instal of the brackets. I need to mount some today for a customer and I find the printed directions that come with the units lacking in detail. I did find some help in a few of the segments as you worked with your lighting though.
Bracket install can be tricky where you're trying to make multiple cabinets line up. There are a couple of mine that aren't quite perfect 🤫. I find measuring off the floor and ceiling for bracket placement can help. Best of luck with your project!
Really nice job...But overwhelming to watch all of the wires made me nervous & the installation process was a bit confusing..tfs 😊
This project nearly killed me.
love the idea!! just one question i got the same light bars , but my led lights are yellow not white... please help i want the white ones
If you have the same OMLOPP lights then they will be the same color (3000 Kelvin). My guess is that they look whiter in my video than they are in real life because of the color correction.
Edit: I just checked and mine are definitely more yellow in real life :D
thank you. which do you like better?
Hue lights- 100%
Hey Cam, really nice job you did. I too have many Bestas in my room with the same Glassvik doors installed. I love the doors but the one thing that drove me crazy is how hard it is to clean the glass. It's like there is something on the glass that won't come off no matter how hard you try. Have you noticed this?
Yes! There's some super weird haze that's nearly impossible to remove (and I swear that even when they look clean it comes back!). If you end up finding a solution lemme know.
I was wondering how you got the cable from lights underneath the cabinets to go to the backside, but I think at 6:59 I can see you drilled holes in the bottom of the cabinet, like you did for the sides.
Nice collection btw!
Yes, you got it- I just drilled a hole.
Thanks!
Thank you. This video was helpful, but how are the wires hidden?
All the wires are run behind the cabinets- there is about 1/4" of space behind each one.
How much them shelves go for bcuz those look real nice??
looks like the omlopp is not availabe anymore. Do you have a video of the new man cave?
That's too bad- they were a good little lighting system.
At this point I have ripped all the lights out of my cabinets and used Hue lights to light the room. ruclips.net/video/0HKijOLG-do/видео.html
That diecast porsche u have inside the cabinet what scale is it??? I’m looking for something to put my 1/18 scale cars in.. great work btw
It's a 1/18 scale model 👍
When you mounted the lights in the cabinet did you drill out the back or through the slot in the top and how’d you bring it back in and over the rail for the center mounted cabinet with the transformer in it?
You're asking about the wires, right? I ran the wires out the back. I just cut a groove in the back piece. If you pause the video at 6:35 you can see what I mean (sort of- I realize that I didn't explain some things too well). The back piece can just slide over the wires that go to the lights. I'm pretty sure there's room in between the rail and the back piece (3:59) - you can leave the wire in front of the rail and it doesn't cause a problem. There's also a groove in the rail and you can run through there and drop it out of the center where there's a cutout.
Thanks for this but suggest next time (if there is a next time) do some research first and plan ahead...
Hey, great job! Did you end up adding the dimmer? I heard the one from ikea is making some noise.. not sure if this is true for everybody.
I didn't end up putting the dimmer in (I have also heard that they tend to buzz a bit). I don't have my lights on all the time so I just haven't felt the need to dim them.
Hi, can you let us know the interior dimensions for the besta?
I posted the model info in the video- if you look them up on the IKEA website and find the dimensions just subtract off about an inch on each side (to account for the material thickness) and that will be the interior dimensions 👍
do the lights don't connect to each other?
On the cabinets that touch each other the lights are all connected together. There are three separate cabinet groups.
no remote?
I should look into that 👍
your camrea making me dizzy buddy
