Just a tip to anyone who is installing Besta wall units! turn the unit so the holes for the legs are facing the ceiling and not visible from the ground.
I think your voice is lovely. I imagine you are in Scandinavia. I enjoy your videos because you go into great detail and show a true step by step. Thanks for posting!
Damn!! I thought I was the only one with the wall issue. It’s so annoying having to try adjust furniture because of the wall not been flat. Thanks for sharing this video and showing us the process of your installation.
I’m amazed with the besta rails. It can actually hold more weight than advertised. All my screws were in wood studs. I secured the console cabinet between two besta floating cabinet and it holds well!
@@DIYable Your voice is VERY unique and awesome! Yes, you sound like Dracula, and YES, it is fantastic! Loved the video and you definitely helped me with my installation! Thank you, keep it up!!
Wow! So awesome. I felt like I was taking a course. Very thorough. Loved the samples! Ikea should hire you to do instructional video instead of those manuals👍❤
Thanks!!! If you like DIY and technical side of it, check out other videos on my channel. I am glad it helped. If you like IKEA products, I did another video on Ikea Sollerön outdoor patio set, check it out: ruclips.net/video/sq_w6TgE6jE/видео.html
I was looking at painting rooms a few months ago and came across your video on how to use the Shur Line... and then I bought some Besta frames and wanted to see tips on how to mount them to a wall that's not level, and bam! You have a video for that too. Thank you from a fellow Canadian!
Really helpful video, thanks. I installed these units but could only find two studs, which unfortunately were not at each end of the unit, I used two toggles on one side but two studs on another. I hope the weight distribution will work!
Very informative and easy to follow. So! I'm hoping you can also explain how to *remove* these from the wall. I haven't been able to find anything on that. I maybe shouldn't have put one up in a rental, but now I'm moving and need to take it down... Help?
You are the one of best DIYer in whole RUclips world!! Would the screw into the stud break the vapor barrier? Am I too crazy about it? I am always so nervous when I make a hole to exterior wall....
The plastic corner anchors connected to the frame are the weakest link in the system. How did you manage to mount the cabinets without flexure? I had to use the old ikea metal mounts, they are much more rigid.
Hi, can you tell me the minimum clearance I need above a cabinet, so that it can 'drop' on to the rail? I have 64.3cm space to the ceiling, wishing to install a 120x40x64 frame. Is it possible?. Fabulous video and voice over :)
Using 3 1/8" screws, are you not worried about hitting any electrical or plumbing that may also be run through the studs? Perhaps it is different in the US.
Indeed... yes and no. The Romex cable and PEX running across the studs won't be at this height horizontally generally speaking, at least for me.. also this is a wall facing outside and there is no bathroom above the room. But you got a point, I wouldn't say it will never happen for someone else.. In Canada/US, some building code requires to install metal wood studs protector plate... you know if right away after drill passes the drywall.
For the units on the wall, you level it. For the units on the floor, it really depends how bad the uneven is.... if it's not too bad, I would put some composite shim on one side to make it level. Then cover the front with some decoration.
What screws you recommended when installing on concrete walls. Meaning that the unit is installed inside of course, but it’s an exterior wall; which is concrete. Thanks 🙏🏽
Tapcon is the strongest, but you need to practice if you never used it before. if you drill the hole too big, it will fail very badly. The other option is to use a concrete drill bit + hammer drill to drill a hole on the concrete, then insert a plastic anchor. After that, you can use the screw to secure it. The 2nd method is more forgiving IMO. You can find those masonry plastic anchor in your local hardware store.
Thanks!!! The one I was using was DEWALT DW088LG 12V Cross Line Laser, Green laser. There are 2 things I want to share with you. Green laser is very powerful, remember to wear the eyes protection glasses comes with the tool, there was one time I didn't wear and my eyes were hurting for the whole night. The other thing is, if you use it outside in bright sunny day say you are building a deck, it's not easy to see the line. Wait for cloudy day or do the work at dawn or dusk LOL... Hope that helps.
That's a very good question. I would say it's risky. Certainly it will hold the empty Besta unit, however if you put a lot of heavy items in there, or if someone climbs on it (kids may do, you never know).. the whole thing has chances to fall and can cause injury. I really would not recommend that for safety reasons.
Very good video. I will be hanging the IKEA TV stand but people are saying the attachment brackets do not line up to the studs and the suspension rail doesn't work with the TV stands. Do you have any experience with these?
I realize this is 2 years old... But in case someone is wondering this same thing: The IKEA Besta TV stands hang on the wall slightly differently. You install 3 metal brackets on the cabinet directly and then screw it into the wall directly. Only one of the 3 brackets will line up with a stud. My recommendation is to attach the middle to the stud and use anchors for the other two. If you're installing a combination of besta frames (what's pictured in this video) and besta TV cabinets, you'll want to hang the frame first and use its position as a guide for where to mark holes for the TV stand.
That works great for the first one in the chain... But when you're hanging multiple cabinets, side by side, the next one will only line up with one stud. You will have to end up using drywall anchors.
Just hired Task Rabbit to mount this as I'm actually using in my office and the brackets don't match the studs for me either. I have toggle boots and wondered if they would be appropriate for this project. I'm guessing you bought the rail separately.
If you’re going to fasten screws that long into a stud, you need to be sure that there aren’t electrical wires or plumbing pipes running through the studs at that location.
By design.. it's not possible.. it's not designed like regular kitchen cabinets. The back panel is a thin particle board, IKEA wants you to buy the hardware...
I doubt the anchor will holds 200 lbs weight common bro if I put a screw in the wall and hang on to it a chunk of dry wall will break.. just screw then to the studs is enough
LOL.. COVID time, I can't.. Believe it or not, I did have an old article on my blog (if it's still working), check it out: www.diyable.com/diy_lcd_tv_above_fireplace_patching_the_niche/
Great video, but your voice seems unnatural. It's like you're forcing pronunciations and tones on certain words. But all good though! 3 inch long screws allow for screwing through electrical wire, conduit and plumbing running through the center of studs!! Use 2 1/2 inches in length.
This just saved my brain from exploding. Thank you. And made me chuckle too! Thanks for sharing!

For 6:38 how would it leave a gap on the sides?? I can see how it would leave u a gap on the top but how would it on the sides.

Would there be any concerns about splitting the wood if I don’t pre drill before screwing?
The plastic corner anchors connected to the frame are the weakest link in the system. How did you manage to mount the cabinets without flexure? I had to use the old ikea metal mounts, they are much more rigid.
Those plastic corners are okay, not the strongest material. But that is part of the design of their system, I just have to trust IKEA

If I don't have studs, will two of the FlipToggle anchors on each bracket hold the besta units?

Can you use GRK Multi Purpose Screws just the same?
Hi. How did you manage to put the cabinets one next to the other with the rail ? What is the distance between the cabinet and the second rail ? Thanks

If the rail is 20", why not just use the holes on the rail 16" for the studs?
What if your unit needs to be off center or away from a wall by 2 inches?
That works great for the first one in the chain... But when you're hanging multiple cabinets, side by side, the next one will only line up with one stud. You will have to end up using drywall anchors.
