That was classic.
So glad more people are reacting to this masterpiece. Historical inaccuracies aside, this is truly a brilliant movie. Great reaction!
Like every movie who is "based upon" is inaccurate.
it NEVER had anything to do with history, it was movie made to let rest of the world know who William Wallace were
The only thing that wasn't inaccurate was how cruel Nobility was back then.
It had few accuracies though. Like how the battle at Stirling. It was the first battle where the English lost a battle with heavy cavarly.
Why do people have a strange OBSESSION with going on videos and pointing out "inaccuracies" in this movie. It's very bizarre. Never seen people say that about all the other "Historical" movies.
And this movie was actually relatively ACCURATE. All of this really happened, they had to fill in the gaps to make a story for a full movie though. It is still a movie, not a Documentary, you can only make it so accurate.
Ahhh it just hit me as I was typing this, this movie doesn't make the English look very good, so probably lots of butthurt Brits trying to tell people it's "innacurate". It all makes sense now.
"Historians from England will say I'm a liar" was the opening line of the whole movie XD. Oh the irony
I'm sure others have mentioned this already, but the "crazy old man" that you love is played by James Cosmo. Fun fact, since you are also watching Game of Thrones, Cosmo also plays Lord Commander Jeor Mormont - the commander of the Night's Watch. Great actor who plays awesome characters.

Lets not forget how inaccurate it actually is. For example William Wallace was actually born 300 years either after/or before Robert the Bruce or the fact the both the English and Scottish soldiers wore near enough the the same armour during battle. Just to name a few. It's just a another Mel Gibson English hate piece same as The Patriot.
It really is actually quite a bad movie and I say this and I'm not even English, in fact I'm Scottish and yet this film offends me. Maybe I just don't like Mel Gibson?
As a Scottish person, this is easily one of my favorite all time movies, and now you know why we have a great rivalry with the English. Also Robert the Bruce was actually a true Scottish hero, he never sided with the English.
I always love all the movies that show clan squabbles but when it's time to come together, just like family, they unite.
It's historically bollocks though
@@lukeempty3386 lol, yeah it certainly is, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great movie. Mel's accent is also pretty awful. It is a movie, if you want historical accuracy go watch a documentary on the history channel or the BBC.
@@daveaglasgow I dont agree, if you make a movie on a historical subject you should at least do more than just run with a name alone and fuck everything else. A little change here and there, compact it is fine. But this was pure fantasy

Leo is innocently hilarious. He's like a tall hobbit.
The best film reactor for sure.
Wasn't "Leo the Innocent," actually a king of some forgotten dynasty?
Mel Gibson knows how to make a movie. This one played for 2 years straight in the theaters in Edinburgh, Scotland. All of the extras were Scottish.
I remember watching this in theaters as a kid. It was the first movie that ever got me choked up at the end. I never heard of William Wallace so I really don't care for the inaccuracies people complain about. MOST people didn't know about this historical character if it wasn't for this movie. There is kind of an unofficial sequel to this called 'Outlaw King' it follows Robert the Bruce. I would say it's a little more "accurate". It came out in 2018. I'd add it to the list if you haven't already. It definitely takes pages out of Braveheart, but then again MANY war movies that came out after did. Braveheart may have not been historical accurate, but it redefined war on film.
Honestly as inaccurate as the film is it’s still fucking brilliant
Braveheart wasn't Wallace, it was Robert The Bruce that was known as Braveheart, imagine getting that wrong!!
Film set hundreds of years before the Scottish were wearing kilts and tartan, and they never painted their faces, imagine getting that wrong..

@@worthlessdollar1 hatred??
Do you have problems with the English language?
What hatred are you fumbling to include with your nonsense?
Do you not agree a film called Braveheart should make some attempt to get the correct character? Robert The Bruce after his death was called Braveheart because his brave heart was carried into battle, Wallace was never given that name ever, the only people calling Wallace Braveheart are the people that don't know about the history of that time that have seen this rediculous film..
And why set a film in this timeframe and put actors in tartan hundreds of years before the Scottish were wearing tartan, same question about the wearing of kilts, it's like some kind of sad joke no one understands.
Wallace was never married... He definitely didn't have a relationship with the French bird, she was only 10 years old at the time Wallace died.

@@s.b.907 THAT is unfortunate, but I would hope it makes viewers interested in learning more about this period and the real William Wallace, the real Robert Bruce.
I'm tired of seein this sort of comment on this movie. That's great you're a historian but lets be honest how much of the "real" history is accurate as well, this literally took place back in like the 1200's. So none of the history is entirely accurate
@@1ButtonDash I praised the film as pure film making and referred to Mel Gibson as a genius. I praised the film despite its egregious historical inaccuracies. The film is based more on fantasy than facts, and that's fine. I like historic fiction. My man didn't watch this film to become a historian. He watched it to be entertained. It's not like I came in here and told him he should be embarrassed for liking this movie and then dump a whole bunch of facts on him. Since we're here though, and since your comment about historical facts is nagging at me, here are some basic facts about the real William Wallace that can be corroborated with empirical evidence. These facts we know to be true. The rest is fiction or conjecture. 1) William Wallace was the son of a minor nobleman, not a common farmer. 2) There is no empirical evidence confirming the practice of Prima Nocta. 3) No evidence Wallace ever married. 4) The Scots did not wear blue war paint nor kilts in this period. 5) The battle of Sterling was fought on a bridge and the Scots wore actual armor. 6) Wallace never got anywhere near York. 7) The Bruce never betrayed Wallace directly. 8) Princess Isabella never met Wallace. She was also a child during the events depicted in the film. 9) Wallace's execution was far, far worse than what's depicted in the film.
@@danielflynn9141 yes I get all that what you said and is the historical evidence we have. But again, this happened when in the 1200's right? Just how accurate do you think things are from that time, not just William Wallace but anything in general.

Life back then was tougher than we could ever imagine and William Wallace was actually a real person
And he really did die in the most horrible way a person could conceivably die, the height of insane medieval torture & execution: hung, drawn & quartered. Someone that went by the name RightlyIndignent wrote this masterpiece that fits perfectly with this movie. (Had to adjust it though.)
Men who wanted to be left alone are the most terrifying force of death. They try very hard to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love. They refuse every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know, that the moment they fight back, the lives as they have lived them, are over. The moment that the men who wished to be left alone are forced to fight back, it is a small form of suicide. They are literally killing off who they used to be, or wanted to be.
Which is why, when forced to take up violence, these men who wanted to be left Alone, fight with unholy vengeance against those who murdered their former lives. They fight with raw hate, and a drive that cannot be fathomed by those who are merely play-acting at politics and terror. TRUE TERROR will arrive at their door, and they will cry, scream, and beg for mercy . . . . but it will fall upon deaf ears.

I saw “Braveheart” in the theatres when it came out. It was the single most unique experience I have ever had going to the movies. Dude, you don’t know what it’s like being in a cinema house full of men, and they’re all crying. Yo, when William calls out, “FREEEEEDOOOOOM….” the whole theatre burst into tears! Grown-ass men crying like this had just happened to them personally.
Yeah, “Braveheart” is about as historically accurate as “Star Wars”, but it’s still one hell of a story, and a great movie!
I had the same theater experience but along with the sobs and tears when William yells "FREEEEEDOOOOM" there was applause and people shouted out in support that he refused to beg them for anything. As much as I love sitting in my comfortable leather couch, munching on my own snacks to watch a movie at home, there are just some movies that need to be seen on the big screen with big screen sound.....and Braveheart is one of them. Not just for the picture and sound, but for the community of it.
This movie was apparently writhed with historical inaccuracies. I love History Buffs review of it, but I still like watching just because of its dramatic portrayals and directing. The soundtrack was compelling too and still affects me when I hear it. I remember watching this when I was younger and it was such an emotional roller coaster. For that I say, 👍
as a scot i can say its inaccurate to the nth degree...but its a bloody great watch.
People can’t just let a movie be just that
@Republic of Texas true
As a kid I used to have this movie as a double VHS and wore it the hell out lol
@@mediumvillain ah VHS I remember those. Funny though I don’t remember braveheart being a two tape. I know Meet Joe Black and The Titanic being a two tape. Hmm now imagine the lord of the rings extended version on VHS. Those things would fill up the whole shelf. 😆

SCOTLAND FOREVER!! 🏴
“Humans can be such assholes sometimes”. As long as I live, that will be a quote I will never forget. Such truth. Especially nowadays. Thank you for the reaction and the commentary. On a side note, venison (deer meat), is really good. I remember when my sister was 16 and my brother shot a deer. We had a cookout, she said she only wanted beef. That was a mistake. All we cooked was venison. She ate it, then was asked how she liked bambi. She was pissed at first but admitted that bambi was good. P.S. I was born in Scotland. Scottish don’t play. We live up to our word.
My great grandfather Clark was an immigrant from Scotland!
Robert Bruce eventually became King of Scots, and one of his brothers even became high king of Ireland. The old Bruce supposedly had leprosy, thus his bandaged appearance in the movie
In actuality, the English and the Scots were wearing a similar kind of armor during that AD period. The only difference was the Scots were a more infantry focused army as shown whereas the English have a mixed army of infantry and cavalry.
Another point that the movie got right was the Scots were the first to break the monopoly of the armored knight based armies, more than 300 years of complete dominance since 1066 AD. This was possible when they implemented the long pike, as you have seen in the film, which are long wooden spears that easily took out the cavalry.
It is also because of this strategy that was first used in William Wallace's armies, that under Robert the Bruce, that Scotland finally overcame the English and sent them packing.
This is correct. The Scots - Wallace - created what became known as the Schiltron. These were long pikes often more than twice a man's height. This temporarily switched the advantage back to footmen from Cavalry. However, these large formations were vulnerable to archery and in the 14th century onwards the Bowman would become far more critical in medieval warfare.
@@AppleMak2010 Thanks for your input. Indeed as you say the Schiltron was a game changer, a medieval rendition of the Greek/Macedonian phalanx.
The English actually consolidated their experiences with the Anglo Wesh and Anglo Scottish wars and formulated the near perfect composition of superior archery with anti cavalry tactics, all in one army.
If you have seen how the English King, Henry V utilize the armored bowmen at Agincourt against a massively large formation of French knights and armored French men at arms. The bowmen modeled after the Welsh bowmen with high powered longbows with bodkin arrows for long range combat and they also carried wooden stakes which they learned from the Scots, to create a line of pikes to deter the knights.
So it was thanks to William Wallace again, that he actually was more than just a hero of Scotland, leading the nation, both physically and spiritually, he also formulated a new fighting system that the English copied and innovated upon, so that they themselves had become a continental powerhouse by being predominantly in the upper hand during the 100 years war with France.
The Pikes not only remained with the English army through the longbowmen, they were also used by the Swiss pikemen who defeated a supremely capable army under the Duke of Burgundy Charles the Bold, a man exceedingly rich and had possibly the most impressive army in Europe.
Lastly, the 16th and the 17th century saw the usage of Pikes as the main infantry weapon in the Spanish Tercios formation of a fighting combat square formation filled with pikemen, arquebusiers and cannoneers. The Tercios were dominant for a good 7 decades.
So in general, William Wallace really went outside the box to overcome the monopoly of the medieval knight and on top of that defined the next few hundred years of combat from the high medieval all the way to the age of enlightenment.
@@ConstantineJoseph Yes indeed. The high point of the "Pike & Shot" era was probably the 17th century with the Thirty years war and the various "English Civil Wars" (although we joke that the wars were not actually "English"- also Scotland, Wales and Ireland were involved- and they certainly were NOT very Civil!). Once musket men became better equipped with bayonets, the Pike gradually disappeared.
Well in general, no calavery would charge into pikes like that. That movie don't have a lot historical accuracy, no matter what you look like (the battles, the outfits, the language spoken by the king and the nobility, or the life of the historical characters). Still, it's a fantastic movie, really. The music, the characters, the tension, the emotion, it was great.
This movie and Empire Strikes Back are my two favorite movies of all time. They bounce back and forth between the #1 and #2 spot. Both have everything you can ask for in a movie - Action, comedy, romance, great characters, betrayal, and high stakes. Great reaction!!
Those were the two at the top of my list for a lot of years also lol
@@mediumvillain What are your current top two?
Excellent taste 👌
@BattleAngelFan I've started it, but haven't had a chance to fully sit down and watch it yet.
Just a heads up from the time Wallace took the first town in Scotland to the time where he's taken as a prisoner is about 7 to 8 years. As always Love Your Content and Reactions! Keep bringing That 🔥🔥🔥🔥!
What a wonderful reaction.. a real reaction...
you’re brilliant. My favourite moment was when you said you wanted a love like William had with his woman. My heart went out to you. 😍
Leo, I'm completely certain you're gonna make some women very happy on day, and she's gonna be lucky to have you
You're the man Mr Video. I've seen this movie a million times, but i had to watch again to see what you thought.
you do live in the AD times bruh, this was 1280 AD, you live in 2023 AD
“You could mess around, and her husband could be a William” that right there is a quote Leo.
At 40 seconds you got me laughing my guy! 🤣
14:50 "I need to go to her dentist"🤣 This dude got the Martin Lawrence vibes. Crack me up with his reaction..lol
Nice reaction man! Don't get too tangled up in people being upset that you don't know everything about something you've never even watched yet! One love brutha! Keep up these awesome reactions
Great choice Leo! Braveheart won lots of Oscars and well deserved. On top of that based on a true story. William Wallace is a hero to his people. Mel Gibson at his finest.
That first 40 seconds? Reminded me of Abbott & Costello. You, sir, are Lou Costello. LoL.
They guy he had the rock throwing contest with was Hamish, the little red haired boy he threw rocks with in the scene as children. When you assaulted Englands soldiers they treated it as an assault on the King himself and punishable by death. The kings son looked uncomfortable in the wedding because the man he turned and looked at was his boyfriend.
Ngl, I was just waiting for you to get to the battle scene where they all waved their... *ahem* "spears" at the English, then their bums. You falling out of the chair was worth the wait. 🤣🤣 This is a fantastic movie that I completely forgot existed! So glad you brought it back for us!
The Last Samurai, the Last of the Mohicans, The Revenant, Dances with Wolves, Brotherhood of the Wolf, or Django Unchained would be cool to watch with Leo.
I love the story of Braveheart, and come to find out, my family traces back to his brother! We are Wallace on one side and MacPherson on the other!❤️
Love, love, love, your reactions!!!! On the music and the movies!!!!!🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻❤️❤️❤️
Hey, Leo - loved this reaction! ❤ Braveheart is one of my favorite films, but I fast forward through 95% of the battle scenes. William and Murron is one of the best tragic love stories.
My kid (autistic teen who asks me the same questions he has his whole life) asked me today what my top 5 favorite movies were...this one is in my top 3. I hope you're doing well. I can't wait to see you going through the journey!
Ok. Way to spin your kids condition for some RUclips likes. Solid. Just keep your account hidden from your kid because if he/she finds it, they won’t understand.
@@Gnossiene369 how about you shut up bro or i make you regret not using a VPN in 2021 when you try to offend someone. I mean do you even realise black mirror is based on reality yeah?
Especially when you try to insult and offend a person who is just spreading their joy telling Leo about a coincidence they experienced regarding this movie today.
You are a horrible person and you didnt even make anything you said funny so you are just a straight up bad person.
Which is why i wont regret putting your information on the dark web.
Cool Karma Bruh. Imagine being you
AmberC My son is 25 now, I get it 💓
@@Gnossiene369 I don't need to do anything for likes. I comment my truth and let me take a moment to educate you on autism and the spectrum. They are all different. He's the smartest little human soul I know. While I understand that my child can read, write, and be verbal (because some can not)....not every child on the spectrum can and it's simply ignorant to assume that YOUR idea of autism, is exactly what is...very different from reality. So, please, be a kinder human and honestly, learn about the spectrum. My son repeatedly asking questions is apart of who he is and I have ZERO complaints on that. No one else asks me what my favorite movies; and I never tire of hearing it asked. I hope you have a great rest of your day.
@@Elphie204 Thank you. Genuinely, thank you.
*Me seeing the video is 59 mins*
Me: “Hell yeah!”
*After seeing him fiddle with the arm rest*
Me: “Fuck me, he’s gonna mess with this for 30 mins 🤦♂️”
😂
There's a world of historical dramas to watch, Leo! Apocalypto for another Mel Gibson masterpiece. Last of the Mohicans and The Outlaw Josey Wales are classics too.
Unforgiven too
Mountain men and Jeremiah Johnson are good too
Apocalypto is a nice movie but like this, a historical mess
historical dramas, its Hollywood made up crap. Oh and the kilt came hundreds of years later, introduced by a German King sitting on an English throne.
