      Why do people have a strange OBSESSION with going on videos and pointing out "inaccuracies" in this movie. It's very bizarre. Never seen people say that about all the other "Historical" movies.
      And this movie was actually relatively ACCURATE. All of this really happened, they had to fill in the gaps to make a story for a full movie though. It is still a movie, not a Documentary, you can only make it so accurate.
      Ahhh it just hit me as I was typing this, this movie doesn't make the English look very good, so probably lots of butthurt Brits trying to tell people it's "innacurate". It all makes sense now.
      "Historians from England will say I'm a liar" was the opening line of the whole movie XD. Oh the irony

There is kind of an unofficial sequel to this called 'Outlaw King' it follows Robert the Bruce. I would say it's a little more "accurate". It came out in 2018. I'd add it to the list if you haven't already. It definitely takes pages out of Braveheart, but then again MANY war movies that came out after did. Do you not agree a film called Braveheart should make some attempt to get the correct character? Robert The Bruce after his death was called Braveheart because his brave heart was carried into battle, Wallace was never given that name ever, the only people calling Wallace Braveheart are the people that don't know about the history of that time that have seen this rediculous film..
      And why set a film in this timeframe and put actors in tartan hundreds of years before the Scottish were wearing tartan, same question about the wearing of kilts, it's like some kind of sad joke no one understands.
      Wallace was never married... He definitely didn't have a relationship with the French bird, she was only 10 years old at the time Wallace died.

      William Wallace was never known as Braveheart, that was Robert the Bruce.
      He couldn't have worn a kilt, that would have been hundreds of years later.

      @@1ButtonDash I praised the film as pure film making and referred to Mel Gibson as a genius. I praised the film despite its egregious historical inaccuracies. The film is based more on fantasy than facts, and that's fine. I like historic fiction. My man didn't watch this film to become a historian. He watched it to be entertained. It's not like I came in here and told him he should be embarrassed for liking this movie and then dump a whole bunch of facts on him. Since we're here though, and since your comment about historical facts is nagging at me, here are some basic facts about the real William Wallace that can be corroborated with empirical evidence. These facts we know to be true. The rest is fiction or conjecture. 1) William Wallace was the son of a minor nobleman, not a common farmer. 2) There is no empirical evidence confirming the practice of Prima Nocta. 3) No evidence Wallace ever married. 4) The Scots did not wear blue war paint nor kilts in this period. 5) The battle of Sterling was fought on a bridge and the Scots wore actual armor. 6) Wallace never got anywhere near York. 7) The Bruce never betrayed Wallace directly. 8) Princess Isabella never met Wallace. She was also a child during the events depicted in the film. 9) Wallace's execution was far, far worse than what's depicted in the film.

    Someone that went by the name RightlyIndignent wrote this masterpiece that fits perfectly with this movie. (Had to adjust it though.)
    Men who wanted to be left alone are the most terrifying force of death. They try very hard to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love. They refuse every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know, that the moment they fight back, the lives as they have lived them, are over. The moment that the men who wished to be left alone are forced to fight back, it is a small form of suicide. They are literally killing off who they used to be, or wanted to be.
    Which is why, when forced to take up violence, these men who wanted to be left Alone, fight with unholy vengeance against those who murdered their former lives. They fight with raw hate, and a drive that cannot be fathomed by those who are merely play-acting at politics and terror. TRUE TERROR will arrive at their door, and they will cry, scream, and beg for mercy . . . . but it will fall upon deaf ears.

    “Humans can be such assholes sometimes”. As long as I live, that will be a quote I will never forget. Such truth. Especially nowadays. Thank you for the reaction and the commentary. On a side note, venison (deer meat), is really good. I remember when my sister was 16 and my brother shot a deer. We had a cookout, she said she only wanted beef. That was a mistake. All we cooked was venison. She ate it, then was asked how she liked bambi. She was pissed at first but admitted that bambi was good. P.S. I was born in Scotland. Scottish don’t play. We live up to our word.

    Robert Bruce eventually became King of Scots, and one of his brothers even became high king of Ireland. The old Bruce supposedly had leprosy, thus his bandaged appearance in the movie

  • @ConstantineJoseph

    In actuality, the English and the Scots were wearing a similar kind of armor during that AD period. The only difference was the Scots were a more infantry focused army as shown whereas the English have a mixed army of infantry and cavalry.
    Another point that the movie got right was the Scots were the first to break the monopoly of the armored knight based armies, more than 300 years of complete dominance since 1066 AD. This was possible when they implemented the long pike, as you have seen in the film, which are long wooden spears that easily took out the cavalry.
    It is also because of this strategy that was first used in William Wallace's armies, that under Robert the Bruce, that Scotland finally overcame the English and sent them packing.

    • @AppleMak2010
      @AppleMak2010 2 года назад

      This is correct. The Scots - Wallace - created what became known as the Schiltron. These were long pikes often more than twice a man's height. This temporarily switched the advantage back to footmen from Cavalry. However, these large formations were vulnerable to archery and in the 14th century onwards the Bowman would become far more critical in medieval warfare.

    • @ConstantineJoseph
      @ConstantineJoseph 2 года назад +2

      @@AppleMak2010 Thanks for your input. Indeed as you say the Schiltron was a game changer, a medieval rendition of the Greek/Macedonian phalanx.
      The English actually consolidated their experiences with the Anglo Wesh and Anglo Scottish wars and formulated the near perfect composition of superior archery with anti cavalry tactics, all in one army.
      If you have seen how the English King, Henry V utilize the armored bowmen at Agincourt against a massively large formation of French knights and armored French men at arms. The bowmen modeled after the Welsh bowmen with high powered longbows with bodkin arrows for long range combat and they also carried wooden stakes which they learned from the Scots, to create a line of pikes to deter the knights.
      So it was thanks to William Wallace again, that he actually was more than just a hero of Scotland, leading the nation, both physically and spiritually, he also formulated a new fighting system that the English copied and innovated upon, so that they themselves had become a continental powerhouse by being predominantly in the upper hand during the 100 years war with France.
      The Pikes not only remained with the English army through the longbowmen, they were also used by the Swiss pikemen who defeated a supremely capable army under the Duke of Burgundy Charles the Bold, a man exceedingly rich and had possibly the most impressive army in Europe.
      Lastly, the 16th and the 17th century saw the usage of Pikes as the main infantry weapon in the Spanish Tercios formation of a fighting combat square formation filled with pikemen, arquebusiers and cannoneers. The Tercios were dominant for a good 7 decades.
      So in general, William Wallace really went outside the box to overcome the monopoly of the medieval knight and on top of that defined the next few hundred years of combat from the high medieval all the way to the age of enlightenment.

    • @AppleMak2010
      @AppleMak2010 2 года назад

      @@ConstantineJoseph Yes indeed. The high point of the "Pike & Shot" era was probably the 17th century with the Thirty years war and the various "English Civil Wars" (although we joke that the wars were not actually "English"- also Scotland, Wales and Ireland were involved- and they certainly were NOT very Civil!). Once musket men became better equipped with bayonets, the Pike gradually disappeared.

    • @xenotypos

      Well in general, no calavery would charge into pikes like that. That movie don't have a lot historical accuracy, no matter what you look like (the battles, the outfits, the language spoken by the king and the nobility, or the life of the historical characters). Still, it's a fantastic movie, really. The music, the characters, the tension, the emotion, it was great.
