@@Racoldgin Yes, he certainly did! Any player worth his salt learns as much as he can about modes, because they unlock so much more of the instrument's potential. As a great player and even better teacher once told me, "If music really is a universal language, music theory is its grammar." I can never quite remember the names of all the modes, but I definitely put in the effort to learn them. Over and above the basic major scale, each mode is simply a related scale based around a given position *within* that major scale, be it 2nd, 3rd, 4th et cetera. For example, the intervals of a minor scale (based around the 6th note of the major root) will be 212-2122. More importantly, Gary Moore knew how to play very emotive passages, while making it look as easy as could be. That set him apart from a whole plethora of shredders, and made him a much-loved star. RIP, Gary...you were a true master.
Lots of guitarists had a very huge feeling on his playing. But no one comes as close as Gary did. He used more emotive and expressive resources than any other guitarist has done to this day. And lets not even start with his beautiful and intelligent note choice. He was the most soulful guitarist, at least in my humble opinion, and nothings gonna change my mind. Not even Gilmour, Friedman, Buchanan, Beck, even tho I love and admire their feeling and emotion, they cant touch Gary.

Gary was a man who explored every aspect of making a guitar sing, cry, yell and scream. Such a great influence for any guitar player who wants to play with emotion. Classy track.
This man and this song was the reason why I picked up a guitar. And thank you so much my master sensei, Gary Moore, you will forever live in my heart and soul...
Still the most underrated guitarist of all time. Gary god bless him, was unbelievable in his playing. I really miss that he is not in this world anymore. Rest in Peace Mr. Gary Moore, goodnight mate.
Gary Moore wasn't nearly as underrated as some incredibly talented players I could name. Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush were a massive big deal during the 1970s, but when the music video era came along, they just got lost in the shuffle, somehow, and its a darn shame, too. Some folks like to claim that Frank Marino was a "Hendrix imitator," but if you really check out his body of work, you'll soon find that he went very far beyond what Jimi did. "Dragonfly" was one of their biggest hits back in the day...check it out, you just might learn to love and appreciate them.😉
When I was 16, in the 80’s, I used to watch a programme called ‘Rockschool’. Gary Moore was on that show one time, and made the guitar sing. The very next day, I booked my first guitar lesson. And I had lessons for 2 and a half years. Because of Gary Moore. ☝️
Never forget the look my father gave the day i told him Gary just died at age 58. He was my dads biggest influence, And as my dad died at 55 almost exactly the same way as Gary. These songs mean more then beyond the grave would entail. And my path is clear. Rip the guitar hard, drink heavy and die before life gets unbearable

3:06 Oh my goodness..really sends shivers down my spine. Just unbelievable, you can clearly hear the guitar crying. Rest in peace Gary, such an underrated talent.
Gary is one of the few musicians who can play a beautiful masterpiece using only a small handful of notes. I've learned many songs on guitar and piano and I can say without a doubt that this song has a lot of feeling. As I play this song I am reminded of the most emotional times in my life. It's difficult to explain but this song feels very similar to the solo in The Embalmer by Buckethead Live Version(just skip the chorus and go straight to the solo) but also Lacrimosa by Mozart. I have the same feelings when I play these 3 songs.
It's so sad to see how music taste among society has devolved. Back then, you wrote music because your heart was into it, you wrote with emotion and that's what makes some songs so beautiful, like this song, The Loner. Today, people listen to rap with almost no musical and heartfelt sense and cheap remixes of "meme" music. Growing up in today's society is a pain to look at some of the old songs, knowing it will be even rarer to find people who can write and play this good. Okay, I have to hand it to some people, they *do* have the ability to make good music, but what it all lacks in the long run is emotion, and this song is pure emotion played through a guitar.
I’ve been listening to this song since 17, even played a part of it in school during graduation, but I have never realised what great emotional impact this masterpiece has. I am 23 now and I am weeping like a child of how amazingly this executed. This man was just something else, really. 😢
