This song resonated with me. When I was a senior in HS, 1984, I had a girlfriend that took my heart. It was the best time of my life and like an ass, I ruined it. I was honest about it as the guilt was overwhelming. Things were fine for a couple of months but when Christmas came that year, she came by the house and gave me my HS ring back. It was over and I was crushed. This song and Careless Whisper by Wham were my songs to drink and sob to. It was a major lesson and I would never be that stupid again. This song is a perfect example of where I was hoping to redeem myself.
They are underrated in terms of accolades and awards, you always see articles written about who's the greatest rock band ever or top 50 or 100 I never see them even mentioned.

38 years of listening to this masterpiece. I was 16 years old when this song debuted and it was written and performed for my generation and the one's that followed. At 16 it would bring tears to my eyes over the loss of my first love. That love still burns brightly after 38 years as does this song.
