Got diagnosed with Stage 4, efficiency was about 17% 20 months ago. Modified diet with your books' guidance. EFG is at 25% now. Went to celebrate with a restaurant meal. I could barely finish the meat because it tasted like PORK flavored Salt. Absolutely outrageous amount of salt in restaurants!

John - so very happy to hear this. It sounds like you have truly changed your buds. Its amazing how your tastebuds can adapt and change. Restaurants load their foods with salt to keep customers coming back. You are doing amazing work!!

Thanks for your guidance. Very helpful. I found a source that states that 28 research studies from 1975 to 2016 found no evidence that high-protein diets cause kidney damage in adults. As you say, the jury is still out.

The best thing I've done is find a renal dietician. She explained that we need to eat for our particular needs, shown by lab tests.

I was told at the beginning of the year that I have CKD. A few weeks ago they said is was Stage 2. Last week when I asked if I should see a Kidney Dr. I was told that their practice doesn't do that until kidney function starts to decline. My problem is that protein is overflowing into the urine. I have cut back on both meat and plant protein.
At the same time I was diagnosed with Peripheral Vascular Disease. I have already had a stent put in my left leg. And had an ablation done on it. Ablation for my right leg is scheduled for September.
In March we found out I have osteoarthritis in both my hips. I also have diabetes and high blood pressure.
So now I need to eat the following diets:
    1. Diabetic
    2. Low sodium
    3. Heart Healthy
    4. Kidney Friendly
    5. Arthritis Friendly
I 've been trying to find good, up-to-date information on my own. All the experts disagree with each other and give contradictory advice.
I have requested referral to a nutritionist but appointment hasn't come through yet.
To make everything worse I'm suffering from fatigue and have no desire or energy to cook even though I know how. Even "healthy" frozen meals aren't.
Situation has been made worse by getting COVID at the end of March. It took a month before I tested negative at the end of April.
Your 5 points are spot on, however.

Jacquelyn - I am really proud of you for staying on top of this. I know this journey can be difficult and finding good healthy food can be daunting (the frozen meals a lot of times can be loaded with sodium). I wish you all the best and hope you can get that appointment soon. A nutritionist can be very helpful in leading you through healthy changes. Stay strong and keep being very proactive in finding answers. You got this.

The good news is that I have lost 25 pounds since January 2023 putting me in the Overweight category instead of the Obese category. I would like to loose 23 more pounds by the end of the year.

I am so glad I found you on RUclips. I am at Stage 5 CKD cause by the excessive proteins from Cancer. I recently change my diet and supplement to fight Inflammation in my body. Once I did that the Cancer Blood Markers went down and they took me off of Chemo Drugs. Now I am concentrating on how to keep my kidneys from getting worse. I have been looking for more ways to eat a more kidney friendly diet. I am looking forward to getting your cookbook.

Scientists hve discovered now that ppi's do cause kidney disease but my GP in the UK has never heard of it. Do u have the Link for the Scientific studies please?

After getting a kidney transplant, you can eat anything but in moderation. Otherwise, the kidney will not last. Transplant from a deceased donor lasts about 7-10 years, but if you take care of it, the kidney might last a little longer. Transpalnt from a living donor can last 20 plus yrs. Make sure you take your rejection medication everyday otherwise it will be rejected. Those meds are a lifetime...

All doctors are supposed to tell you the stage your at, but if he or she doesn't. Look at your creatine levels. This will tell you what stage you're at.
