- In this video we're comparing Thin Lizzy and Space Elevator, and their renditions of Thin Lizzy's 'Don't Believe A Word'. We've been loving Thin Lizzy's music on this channel, and we thought it was about time we checked out Space Elevator's work. So, this is the best of both world's. This will be a fun one, for sure! Im a big thing Lizzy fan, but that space elevator version is absolutely spot on , Phil and Gary would approve guaranteed 🏴✌️
Hi, i also forgot to mention that the drummer on this performance is non other than the amazing COZY POWELL from Rainbow!!!!!!
Both great songs.
I have to say that Space Elevator is the greatest live band in the world that nobody has ever heard of.
I know these guys personally, and they're all wonderful people.
If you want to hear more of Space Elevator, I'll recommend more
I’ve never heard of them Col, they were all very proficient though
👍🏴
@jaymacgee_A_Bawbag_Blethering Eventually, they'll get to Scotland , when they do, go see them. I guarantee 💯 satisfaction
@@colrhodes377 respect to you Col and I will do mate 👍🏴
I have not heard of this Band either ! Proper brill !
Never heard of them until now....Will definitely be checking them out 👍
Gotta go with one of my favorite 70's bands Thin Lizzy 🎸 !
Ha ! This is a great slow version of " Dont Believe a Word " the Faster version is on the " Live and Dangerous " Album both Brill !
On the Live and Dangerous version , the two leads are B Robertson and S Gorham , Phil Lynot Bass and Vocals ,
Gary Moore and Scott Gorham are a Fantastic combination on this one . Space Elevators version is great , but Thin Lizzy for me .
Great reaction .
nope. that Lizzy version is some slowed down jazzed out version. When in doubt, always go to the version on the live album. Live and Dangerous. Lizzy is always best.
Hi, 'Don't Believe a Word' was written by Phil Lynott, and is a Thin Lizzy song (NOT 'Gary Moore's song') and was on Lizzy's fantastic 'Bad Reputaion' album in 1977, and of couse on their amazing double album 'Live and Dangerous' (BEST LIVE ALBUM EVER!!), which you guys MUST listen to!!! Keep up the good work
Agree !!
Sorry but you're wrong Don't Believe a Word appeared on the Johnny the Fox album not Bad Reputation
@@danielolson5378 OK , cheers for that
Hi @danielolsen5378 , you are totally correct, don't know what I was thinking!! My favourite band, and song!! Think I'd one too many when I posted my comment.. Just hope my mates don't see my cock-up!!!
@@danielolson5378 Hi, yes you are totally correct, Lizzy are my favourite band of all time, seen them 6 times with Phil Lynott at Newcastle City Hall, just don't know what I was thinking, must have had one or two too many!!! Apologies Dave
This is as close to a perfect song as has ever been written, but it has quite a complex history and a number of very good versions of it. I like Space Elevator's recording, but it was designed as a tribute and a faithful blend of Brian Robertson's original take on the song with Gary Moore's later version, heard here. Thin Lizzy wins this one, even if they weren't strictly in the building. For the record, the best version of Don't Believe a Word was recorded at the Hammersmith Odeon on the Renegade tour, with Snowy White playing the solos.
Next I'd like to see cleaners from Venus with only a shadow along mgmt's version
Real,proper rock n roll 👌both great.
It's a Thin lizzy song wrote by Philip lynott you will have to l play thin lizzy version love from Ireland
Yep ! along with the "Black Rose "
That mirrored scratchplate has a lot to answer for!
The back of my Retinas are still suffering !
You need to listen to the original version of the song, released as a single, and much better.
Since you two say you haven't heard much of Gary Moore's music, I'm repeating my suggestion for his song 'Business As Usual'. Unfortunately there's no video version, unless you opt for the 'Montreux 1997' live one. And I reckon Space Elevator did a pretty good job with their 'Don't Believe A Word' cover 😀👍
Ya!!! How is you squire ?? Yes more Gary Moore is always appreciated ,
@@ghichens3418 - To be honest, I do prefer Rock Gary over Blues Gary, though. Either way, I've always loved how he had been able to let his Soul speak through his guitar-playing, especially his solos 🤩 I remember not really believing the news of his passing; He'd been around forever and had seemed immortal 😌 And yes, I've been very well, thank you, Graham 😊 Currently in the process of reconnecting with someone dear to me 😁 May things be great also with you and yours! 😀👍
@@mightyV444 Oh yes ,all good here , may it go well with your friend , Cheers , have a grand day ,
@@ghichens3418 - Thank you very much, Graham! 😊🙏 You have a splendid day, too! 😀👍
Wow, they really had Phil out in that mix. It gave me the impression of a love and lost song, kind of along the lines of 10cc's I'm Not In Love. Always said, If you're going to do a remake, at least do it as good, if not better. SE did it better. Smooth and sexy, clean and powerful.
Just found your channel - some great stuff in there outside the norm. One thing however this version of don’t believe a word is an album version and the wrong one to compare with - the lizzy single is a fast only version - check that one out - much respect
Just remembered, for another Space Elevator comparison, try, Spirit of the radio, that is a real blast.
Also, try Space Elevator, The loneliness of love.
'Spirit Of Radio', the Rush song? 😃
@mightyV444 One and the same. No doubt most would go with Rush, but, Space Elevator do a great live version of it
@@colrhodes377 - They do, too! 😀👍 I just listened to it 😊 Amazing musicians, great vocals! 🤩
@mightyV444 If you ever got chance to see them live, you should do so.
An amazing live band.
@@colrhodes377 - If they ever make their way to NZ, I sure will! 😁
You played the Gary Moore’s version not Thin Lizzy’s version .Look up Thin Lizzy version on the Midnight Special
Yes, that wasn't strictly Thin Lizzy but still pretty good! Cozy Powell on the drums 🙂
It’s an honest mistake to make , you see Phil Lynot and the title Don’t believe a word which he wrote and it’s easily done . Gary Moore gets right up my kilt so in my head I’m transposing the genuine Thin Lizzy track which I hold dearly as the track I should’ve heard vs Space Elevator .
The Thin Lizzy version walks all over this contest . I’ve never heard of Space elevator ,I listened all the way through and to be fair this is actually more faithful to the track as it was originally intended to be played by Phil Lynot. SE version is perfectly alright , but I like to see something unique or with a twist if your doing a version of an iconic or really well known song and I’m not seeing that here .
Thin Lizzy for me 🎤drop…
👍🏴
Try Gary Moore, Over the hills and far away.
I liked both versions tbh, I cannot remember if you have reacted to Gary Moore doing a solo live performance of Parisienne Walkways especially if you like blues
We did a video for it. But, we were told it was missing a piece. A revisit is in order.
