- In this video I run a series of latency tests on the new Yamaha DM3 digital audio console. These tests are all done at 48k and 96k. The tests include analog input to analog output latency and round trip latency using the Yamaha DM3 as a USB interface. Chapters below!

Great testing. One observation regarding the USB tests, the discrepancy between Logic's predictions and SMAART are probably due to the USB returns not needing to go through an extra A/D/A conversion that the analog mix out -to-2nd channel-in went through. The baseline you used for SMAART for a zero time, I assume, would have had the two A/D/A conversions. I'd guess the DM3 USB round trip is faster than the converters, which in itself is impressive. I have an idea if you want to test the USB latency that should give a level playing field against the analog so the Focusrite doesn't skew it.

Hey Jay, love your videos! Wondering how you were able to pair the DM3 with the Logic Pro X DAW. I can get mine to show up in the devices window, etc, but there are a couple of issues: Levels in Logic are extremely low, even the thought the levels in the DM3 very hot. Also there seems to be no binary communication between the DM3 and the Mac, the displays are not syncing. I've not found much help in the Yamaha docs, web, RUclips or elsewhere. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

No to mbcb, no to dynamic eq. You can use a ruio or vst rack and host plugins such as dynamic eq.
Hey thanks for that. I wasn't aware. When you do that say on the lead vocal will it introduce a ton of latency in the in-ears?
@@YannisFyssas no, it’s hardly perceivable. Also depends on your sample rate and routing.

I’m disappointed about the interface values. My RME interfaces have values around 3ms round trip latency…

Hello, I just got my DM3-D and I do not know how to integrate it with the Rui16-D . It could be a great tutorial ! I have not been able to make them work together yet and use the plugin from VST rack. !
What is your routing ?
Is that latency from source to mixer and then back to your ears? Or is it just from mixer to daw?
Using Dante controller I have ALL DM3 transmitters connected to the RUI 16 receivers and the other way around. I do not know yet how to insert a dante channel in the console channels??, or the main output per say. Any ideas how to approach that?, the DM3 came with a version of VST Rack elements so I think it is possible to use plugins.
Is bypass on the Ruio on/off ?

Extremly low latency, thats mainly cuz they dont have any insert point . Thats sucks. No dca, no groups, no inserts. Its just poor digital mixer. Change my mind?

Quick question: .. Which mixer sounds better, TF1 or DM3 for live band ? .. I’m TF1 user but I’m looking to upgrade my mixer .
Sorry I'm not sharing any insight but I am also deciding between getting a TF1 vs a DM3. I realized the TF1 is quite old compared to the DM3 but I can't help but feel I am not necessarily "upgrading" as you are giving up a bit. Less outputs, less combo jacks, less I/O over USB while you are getting (arguably) better converters, 96K and annoying power brick supply in order to get a very cool form factor.
That will be the one with the better Soundengineer behind it.
