Hands down the best version of this song by a mile. I'm a musician. I'm old. I believe I've heard every good song made. This song by this singer is among the best of them. What a crystal clear, beautiful voice.
I never understood why she didn't become an even bigger star. She's stunningly beautiful, with one of the best female voices Country music has ever heard.
I owned two of her albums, and she was a favorite. I couldn't hardly wait for her next album release. When it was finally released it was a dual vocal with Chet Atkins. Chet Atkins can't sing at all, he can hardly carry on a conversation, and his guitar playing is a pluck-pluck style that sounds irritating and boring. So I never bought the album, and Suzy Bogguss never again had a hit song after recording with Chet Atkins.
@@mikelawhorn1243 I bought the album. It's called Simpatico and there are some very good songs on it. My favorite is her version of the Johnny Cash song "I Still Miss Someone" which she also did live at The Grand Ole Opry and you can find it here on YT.

Love this song, and now that Ian Tyson ( composer) is no longer with us, I hope Suzy keeps singing this to keep his memory alive with you all. RIP Ian, you'll always be " Alberta's Child" , where the "Four Strong Winds" blow on the Canadian prairie.
She was (still is) an angel. I saw her perform live on a USO tour at Clark Air Base in the Philippines in 1989. I even got to spend some time alone with her and Ricky Skaggs as they cleared US Customs (I was working at the Customs desk as a drug dog handler). She was so beautiful and so gracious....even signed a shirt for me. To a lonely young guy so far away from home, she was like a living angel.
I met her in person at Michael Martin Murphy's West Fest in Red River, New Mexico sometime in the early 90's. She was shopping for a leather jacket with fringe. She was very sweet and gracious. She said she was sorry she had to start one of her songs over again, that she was nervous without her band. I told her don't worry about it, that turned out to be the best song you did. What a great performer but an even better person.
Simply put: a Beautiful Lady, with a Beautiful Voice!! A Country Belle, through & through. And her eyes - my goodness, have you seen any as expressive & lively as hers? They're Hypnotic!
Ian was attempting to become a pro rodeo rider when he suffered a serious injury and was told he'd have to give it up, or risk permanent disability if he suffered another such injury. While recuperating, he began playing guitar, singing, and writing songs. I'm guessing that Suzy's version would have peaked somewhere in the Top Ten or Top Five of the Billboard Country Singles chart, rather than at #12, if she'd been closer to the below-21 age the main female character obviously was, while waiting for her 21-year-old man to arrive and take her away from her parents' home, rather than the 36 or so years all country music fans knew her to be. And when he comes to call, father hasn't a word to say.

I have run into Americans from Minnesota who speak in sort of " flat tones" like Canadians . ( The guy who wrote this tune , Ian Tyson , is 85 years old but still alive and kicking . He lives somewhere around Longview , Alberta , Canada which is south of Calgary , Alberta , Canada in the eastern foothills of the Rockies . In the 1960`s and 1970`s he sang with his wife , Sylvia Tyson . They divorced long ago . I heard her a few months ago and even though she has to be in her 70`s she can still sing . )
I have listened to every other version of this song and there's not one that comes even close to this recording by Suzy Bogguss. Her voice is absolutely perfect for this song. I watch and listen to this video several times every day and I never get tired of listening to her. I can't wait to see her perform live in Buffalo next month!
A more beautiful song, there is not. But I respectfully disagree. My mother played Judy Collins in our families Volkswagen vanagon. Maybe when she was happy, or sad or just in the mood. I never bothered to ask. But I sure love Judy's version best. Maybe that's what my mom wanted to share with me and my sister.
Such a classic story song that anyone can relate to. I like this version but my favorite is the original recording by Ian and Sylvia from their1964 album "Northern Journey.
This is a pretty good version, better than most but nobody beats Judy Collins. Ian Tyson (Ian and Sylvia) who wrote the song does a pretty good version too.

Most underrated singer ever. Suzy was blessed with a clear, dynamic voice with a velvety, metallic edge that cuts through big time live when she belts from the diaphragm.. Her voice is LOUD and clear and she'd likely be ok without a microphone in a pinch. She is a very good example of a country singer with a dramatic soprano voice along with perfect pitch. She never sings off key. The edge, vocal weight and operatic power make her unique. There are others who deserve a mention.. Patty Loveless is my girl along with Suzy. Patty is the ultimate female country singer for me. Her plaintive, high lonesome delivery and George Jones influenced inflections are perfection. Can't forget these girls either .. KT Oslin, Matraca Berg, Alison Krauss, Emmylou Harris, Rosanne Cash, Kathy Mattea, Mary Chapin Carpenter and Pam Tillis. Tanya Tucker has one of the most unique and earthy, soulful voices ever.

She’s great, but I discovered Crystal Gayle’s cover a couple of days ago, and I believe your description of Suzy’s clarity applies with even more force to Crystal’s dulcet tone and achingly beautiful voice breaks. See what you think: music.apple.com/us/album/someday-soon/1445958334?i=1445958609
I saw Suzy this year at The Orange Blossom Opry here in Florida , Weirsdale . She was sounding fine and very gracious to stick around and sign autographs and photo ops
Yes, yes, yes, Susy is great on this song as is the Great Diva Judy Collins, but for me, I have to go with Tanya Tucker cuz she puts real country longing and pain into the song; as if she is a cute truck stop waitress waiting for her cowboy to take her away and go get married. Good job Susy but Tanya makes me want to go to that truck stop and eat a hamburger and wish her well in her dreams.
Suzy is a National treasure and will always be the queen of this song. Just listen to the voice and lyrics, I remain amazed as I was young when it was released… thank you Suzy !!
Excellent version. Her voice and beauty are tops, but the band is very very good, steel guitar and bass player are sending the song out to a high place. I never get bored of this song , but this version cannot be improved and a credit to Ian, the writer. Lou
I almost smiled at Bogguss' "Just out of the service" because this was at least 20 years when that phrase sent chills down a generation. "We KNOW what that means..." And now, 30 more years later, a couple of generations can only be curious.
Tony Smith lots of versions of this song out there without the steel guitar. Not true interpretations of what Ian Tyson wanted for his song SOMEDAY SOON. It MUST include the steel guitar.

Just saw her in concert this past Saturday night. Still sounds as good as ever!
Lucky you
@@suzieparis6821 I second that.
Nobody had a voice like Suzy
Arguably, the greatest female voice in country music history.....and that is saying something. Angelic.
I completely, completely, completely agree with you. Truly Angelic--pure, crisp, and beautiful sound. Truly magical.
stonewall73448 Huge fan of hers. For me, a toss up between her and Emmylou Harris.
One things for sure, she owns this song.
Ian Board Since I am the third person to comment, I get to comment..."me three"... Such a huge fan since the 1990s!
And pretty too.
Nah..Gary Morris....
Suzy, EmmyLou, Patsy Cline, Allison Kraus. Voices so clear and true. Missing in packaged female country singers these days.
When I was a kid (so many many years ago) I wasn't a country music fan but I fell in love with Suzy Boggus. I would say she was the first singer that got me interested in country music, and now, what is there really not to love...
Suzy sings sharper and crisper than Judy Collins ever did on "Someday Soon" Makes one want to visit Southern CO.
She’s great, but I discovered Crystal Gayle’s cover a couple of days ago, and I believe your description of Suzy’s clarity applies with even more force to Crystal’s dulcet tone and achingly beautiful voice breaks. See what you think: music.apple.com/us/album/someday-soon/1445958334?i=1445958609
Suzy and Emmylou.....The 2 best voices in country....And neither ever got the recognition they should have.....
joe shmoe For female singers at least.
I saw Suzy this year at The Orange Blossom Opry here in Florida , Weirsdale . She was sounding fine and very gracious to stick around and sign autographs and photo ops
Love her voice and country style.❤
She's a knock out.
Cutest little dimple in her chin
Goddess.
Yes, and she knows she's got all the guys smitten. Look at the bass player stare at her at 1:55
@@keythdanielsen8316 Pretty lady for sure. I never knew what the term "pub nose" meant until I saw her cute profile.
@@AttilatheHun576 - It's "pug nose" dummy, not pub nose. Jeeeeeesus..... clean out your ears and read a book once in while.
With all due respect to the sophisticate Judy Collins, this just rings truer when it's sung by a real cowgirl. Never heard it done better than Suzy !
SUZY BLOWS THESE IMITATIONS THAT CALL THEMSELVES SINGERS OUTA THE UNIVERSE !
Beautiful song, beautiful voice, beautiful woman...
love the hat!!!!
One of the best female country singers in country music,, she should have gotten more credit for her Beautiful country music talent 💗💯
Suzy's voice just puts a spell on me...!!!
The greatest song Ian Tyson ever wrote, by the lady that sang it best.
Excellent version. Her voice and beauty are tops, but the band is very very good, steel guitar and bass player are sending the song out to a high place. I never get bored of this song , but this version cannot be improved and a credit to Ian, the writer. Lou
this girl has one of the most beautiful voices
Suzy is soooo unpretentious and underrated, a world class performer of C&W!
I almost smiled at Bogguss' "Just out of the service" because this was at least 20 years when that phrase sent chills down a generation. "We KNOW what that means..." And now, 30 more years later, a couple of generations can only be curious.
The bass player and steel player are on fire.
Tony Sm
Tony Smith thanks for recognizing the “unsung” heroes. Pun intended.
Tony Smith. That's exactly right bro.!!!!
Tony Smith lots of versions of this song out there without the steel guitar. Not true interpretations of what Ian Tyson wanted for his song SOMEDAY SOON. It MUST include the steel guitar.
thanks
Beautiful voice
Big Thank You also to Ian Tyson, of Calgary, who wrote this. After getting many bruises in rodeos up north.
She has such a beautiful voice.
Suzy Bogguss doing Ian Tyson is as good as it gets. Oh yea, she looks good, too.
Reed Wate
Yep !
You guys mean Judy Collins, Right? I'm pretty sure she wrote the song, back in the late 60s...
@@yankeewatchdog7299 Collins version is my favorite but Suzy's cover was also quite nice...it was a treat to find her...
@@yankeewatchdog7299 No, Ian Tyson wrote it - Judy sang it.
Just decided to click and hear Suzy's version. WOW! Never heard her voice before. Don't listen to country much, but just beautiful. Your right she owns this song. I listened many times. Bravo Suzy!!!
Remember tht song..lving Kanoke marine Corp Air Station to mainland..dedicated frm marine buddies..1975..Semper fi
Song just brings back memories who I am. To the T.
Nobody has ever covered this Ian Tyson classic better than Suzy Bogguss!
Noah Count Judy Collins wrote it
@@edrosenthal7378 Judy Collins was one of the first notable artists to cover Someday Soon, but Ian Tyson wrote it, and he used the royalties he received from the Suzy Bogguss cover to build an arena for equine events on his Longview, Alberta ranch.
Lynn Anderson had a big hit with it back in the70's
Love her voice so pure and strong.
Stuart Fitzsimons y woo
best version of a beautiful song
+Evelyn Patterson Burke judy collins' version is even better.
Its a beautiful song.Chris LeDoux recorded it also but I like how Suzy does it.
agree this the best version
Oh, yes!!
@@johnjarou2357 - No, Judy Collins version is definitely NOT better.
Ian TYSON - Canadian Legend writes yet another classic for y'all to sing.
Suzy, you're an angel! Luv ya!
