You should not , it ain’t broke don’t fix unless you need a bite in some tournament maybe try something else but absolutely do not , been using same method as you for over 25 years or more an same stuff still work , the other baits aren’t not an will not catch any better quality fish than you already catching , you are one of the best now pro fishermen I ever watched an you should be making getting money an donations cause this is the most valuable information that Iv seen in over 30 years , way back when no one ever shared info an you do , wished you fish some bfls an FLW events you got the basic fishing 101 down to the T don’t change it cause it’s working , most fishermen try to much an lose since of basic fishing 101 an so to speak forget how to fish nice work on all your videos thanks again.

I recently gave the jig a shot for the first time on Lake Ray Roberts in Texas during a six hour effort of getting skunked. I could definitely benefit from you making a video on how to fish a jig, how to rig it, trailers, colors, weights, types, etc. I know it's incredibly versatile, I just have zero confidence in what I'm doing with it.

Jonny, you have a gift my friend. Nice video and my son and I learn so much from you. In a sport where so many only tell you part of the "way", you actually go out of your way to teach and explain. Here in SC, we are blessed with some nice lakes for sure, but we have learned the hard way that bass don't just jump in the boat. LOL! Breaking down a lake, understanding bass behavior with seasons and water temp and weather and depth and cover and current all can make or break a day. Each time out we learn a little more. Learning our SI and DI electronics, how to fish different lures, leveraging Google Earth timeline, etc. You do a great job covering it all. Thanks and keep up the good work.

Being out of bass fishing for quite a few years and the endless cost of lures and techniques, I,m trying to stay focused on the ones I have the most confidence in. But new lures and techniques produce results. But jig and pig have been around forever. One that I haven't thrown enough to have confidence in. And that's one of your main big fish producers. Thanks, great video.

Interesting question! I got in my "way back" machine and realized every fish I have ever caught over 7 pounds ( and there are quite a few) have been caught on a jig. I'm 57 and quite some time back I realized that many many new baits will catch fish but are designed to catch the fisherman's wallet. To me it's like leaving fish to find fish.... why change what works for you. You might have that one day where the "squishy headed super ned rig" loads your boat and those 20 days where you pass over loads of jig fish and come up empty with the latest gimmick.

    • @davidcarroll7143
      @davidcarroll7143 4 года назад

I'm with you brother, Ned rig, double fluke, Senko, Yamamoto rig, finesse, chatter bait? Bass fishing is a multi-billion dollar industry and the lifelike colors and paint jobs are to empty our wallets not catch fish. I just thank God to have a boat to fish in and just love being on the water. And I will not be able to cast another line until I find Squishy headed super ned rig with built in side finding sonar. Lol

I am extremely comfortable using plastics but spend the first 2/3 of my time on the water learning other techniques. It has made me about where to use these other methods and how to do them. The last third of my time is coming back to the areas that I fished all day with something other than a plastic and using my go to methods. I am actually catching larger fish on plastics now because I look at each area differently than I did before. If you choose to stick with confidence baits you will only be a so-so fisherman. If you choose to learn, you may become a great fisherman!

For 2019 I will be focused on swimbaiting, jerkbaits and finesse baits like drop shot, shaky head, Ned Rig because I am not super comfortable throwing these baits. Love the idea of this, but agree that it is skewed by your preference for certain baits. In other words, if I never throw a jig, I’ll never catch a fish on one. If I spend 90% of my time with a jig, probably 90% of my fish will some on it. Great use of data!

Very interesting video! I really enjoy JS’s enthusiasm and dedication to the sport of bass fishing. That said, I think as anglers we all have our go to baits, confidence baits, baits that day in day out we catch bass with. Time of year is one thing, but location ( by state ) is huge! As we fallow the feeding habits of bass, let’s not forget to intensely study their forage. As for sticking with 4 baits or experimenting with new ones, I’d have to say both. One shouldn’t limit themselves in the ever changing sport of bass fishing. Thanks for the insight Jonny, keep up the good work. Cheers.

Jonny, supposedly, fish get used to baits and don't bite a bait that has gotten them before. The more they see a bait, the less likely they are to bite it. So you may want to try to find some new baits that catch fish and just filter them into your fishing . The other thing is that you can go back to baits that were popular and catching fish say 5 or 10 yrs ago. Keep up the good videos. Really appreciate it.

Great video as always. Great analysis - as noted, grain of salt due to sample size, lure selection bias, but very interesting! Just got a fishing journal to start tracking my own stats for similar analysis.

You sure keep a lot of records! Dedication what a learning curve . Very good video..New baits? Remember the old saying A BIRD IN HAND IS WORTH TWO IN A BUSH. Use what you use the best!!

I would like to see a jig fishing video with explanation of colors with certain water colors and ski conditions.

Great video. Give tutorials on how to use and where to on your top favorite baits first, then branch out on other lures.

Great information, I would like to see you fish the proven baits for an entire season and look at the data again. It would be interesting to see if your total number of fish caught in the season increased or decreased and whether the percentages changed. I would also like to see some “how to fish” videos for each of the proven baits.

That's an interesting idea! I'm working on a video on jig fishing after all the feedback in the comments.

Great video. The question I have is how much time do you give each presentation? By these numbers, I would assume the Jig is your confidence bait and therefore in your hand more often. Very interesting break down. Good job

Definitely try new stuff. It’s called fishing, not catching. If all I wanted to do was catch, I’d only use a senko and miss out on the fun of trying and learning new methods. With that said would love to see a jig how to video from your perspective.

Great video, I think you should do a half and half approach to trying new baits and refining known ones. Maybe a day of new baits then a day of just your fav.

This just shows your go to baits. It would be completely different for other fisherman but it was interesting.
