You know, fisherman come and go, and TV personalities come and go, and there’s countless anglers on RUclips now... But you sir, are still the very best of the best! Thank you, Roland for all the memories and for continuing to do what you do.
@San Diego Im not the one all goo goo about the old guys like you are in the comments. Dont try include me in your club. All that talk of old man wrinkly balls is working you up I think.
Speaking about memory lane....I remember jumping around on my parents king size bed when the shows intro would start. "Roland Martin shows you what he knows!" My father never fished but he would still take me. Usually dropping me off before work and picking me up after. He never understood how I got so obsessed with fishing. As a latch key kid, I had very little adult supervision growing up. I learned from watching you, Roland. Its the only thing I've continued doing throughout my life. (AND getting in trouble) Only when I'm fishing, does the world make sense. Thank you, Roland.
When I was a kid I remember my grandfather watching Roland Martin and Bill Dance. All the way back to 4-5 years old and I’m 36 now. Classic memories here
Thanks Roland !! I grew up watching you Saturday mornings , I’ve become a great fisherman, not to toot my own horn, but when I catch more fish than anyone else in the boat 🚤, they all want to throw me in the lake 😎
I look forward to his video updates. I am just recovering from a hospital stay from COVID 19. I am so glad Roland got through that himself. His fishing updates got me through in the hospital stay and kept up my mental health. Thanks, MR. Martin, you are a class act.
I agree Roland is a cornerstone in bass fishing and Bill Dance is up there as well the episode Bill does with Jerry Lewis is epic these guys are great entertainers and their fishing techniques are simple but effective
The first time I ever fished Lake Okeechobee about 10 years ago. I stopped at your place in Clewiston. Your Uncle George turned my friend and I on to the Sink-O lure and told us where to fish. We had a great day on the water. I bought a shirt from your shop and sent it to my girl in Sydney Australia along with a photo of George and myself. Thanks Brother
Thank you Roland for what you’ve given to the fishing community. I’m in my mid 40’s and couldn’t wait till the weekend to watch Roland and Bill. More to it than just catching fish, Roland is the whole deal.
Roland is the type guy you can talk on the phone for hours with. Don't worry about potty break. Go ahead set that phone down..... Y'all come back he'd still be talking . Could never miss his shows back in day. Heck we'd set timers on the VCR..Remember those days y'all??
Great to see you old friend! Its been a few decades since I've watched the dozens of VHS tapes I would record you and Jimmy and Bill and Hank on. I'm so excited to have found your channel. Keep 'em comin', son!
Roland, You are me and my dad's FAVORITE Professional fisherman ever. Thanks for years of entertainment, teaching, and is just a bank of bass fishing knowledge. Salute to the boss. Your our HERO FOR REAL. 🙌
I've been watching and learning from you since I was in Jr. High (1976). Glad to see you're still getting er done. I fished Okeechobee once. I got to fish a tournament there with Scott just before he went pro. We won by over 5 lbs. What an awesome kid and a memory that could never be replaced. The way I see it is, we were both taught by the best! Tight lines my friend.
I just enjoy Roland's special and endearing personality. I just enjoy listening to his infectious enthusiasm. And that is combined with soooo many y arms of experience. What a pleasure to listen to. Roland deserves whatever economic rewards he may receive.
Thanks so much Roland. I love ya man! I've been watching you fishing for many years. At almost 62 I can remember those early 70s years of the Rapala. Still to this day my favorite fish baits. Now I'm making my own fish baits and painting fish baits. It just adds to the fishing fun. Keep the videos coming man. Thanks so much.
I tell u what. I love how Roland simplifies everything and breaks it down into simple terms and exact explanations that are easy to replicate out on the water. This is great stuff. It's obvious, he has to have one of the greatest minds for 🎣.
What I wouldn't give to sit and talk with Mr. Martin and then go through all his lures!!! How many must he have accumulated over the years!!! Love the channel and the content!
You have such a truly awesome history in the world of fishing and have influenced the sport in a way most people don't even know. I enjoyed this video as I do all of your videos. Thank you for getting right to the point and keeping it simple. This approach to teaching makes it easier to recall information and apply the techniques you recommend. Looking forward to your next video.
Roland, I'm 3rd gen Japanese American from Ca. During WW2 my dads family went on a camping trip that wouldn't end. When I was in the 5th grade I asked my parents if I could write a letter to some guy in Florida and buy a pack of his plastic tube worms (Black/chart) I remember them looking at the ad. confused. They asked me what I planned on doing if I had these things? When I said "fishing" they were even more confused because I didn't go fishing. I didn't even have a pole. "Fish eat that?" If I got a dollar every time I was asked that question throughout life, I'd have more tackle. Anyways, I did get the pack of worms AND the rush of discovering it in the mailbox. And like a miracle, Santa had told my dad to take me to store to pick out a fishing rod that X- mas. I got a closed face, pistol grip, baitcaster and it was on like donkey kong! (Tho it wasn't invented yet) When I was much older I started to learn the irony of me always asking my dad to take me camping.
I love this breakdown and what i love the most is the side stories you tell us, it's so cool to see someone that has influenced the fishing industry so much
You brought back memories alright...I live about 40 miles from Lake Seminole and I used to fish all your old lures back in the 70's and 80's.....used to listen to Jack Wingate every morning on a local TV show and I sure do miss him too....thanks, Roland, for all the memories!
Man, ROLAND MARTIN! I stopped getting cable 15+ years ago, and man I sure missed watching Roland's fishing program! Great to see him here at RUclips! Liked and Subscribed!
Thanks, Roland! I love the double taps I get on my Green Pumpkin Senko. I have caught more Largemouth on a Senko than any other lures combined. Only the KVD 1.5 Sexy Shad squarebill crankbait. Has come close to the Senko! I am going to try The Devil's Horse next. Found one in my Antique lure collection. Roland, Keep going Sir! We need sound fishing advice. Shawn.
Again I have been rewinding this video to write down my notes from this master and right away I am going to make a neat copy of them. Not an information to be missed! My fishing wisdom is very limited but I would like to say that my number one lure is the Rapala Skitter Prop (blue color back and orange belly) and number two the Rapala Rattling Rap (Chrome blue color, 1/2 oz. size). Those two, together with the Zoom Trick Worm (watermelon seed color), are my favourite baits. I would also add the Rapala Shallow Shad Rap and the Rapala Original. I am about to start fishing the techniques wacky, drop shot (above all), walking baits..and many others, so I have a lot to learn and I greatly appreciate Mr. Martin´s videos. Back in 1972 (when I began to fish) we Spaniards imported those wonderful American black plastic worms from the Boone brand which I caught so many bass on. There was also the good popper Trouble Maker (Golden Eye)...:) and the rivers were pristine...Sorry.
I had no idea that you were involved with so many classic lure designs. The Rapala Fat Rap is one of the most underrated baits on the market, and one of my favorites. Gonna throw a BPS Stick-0 and senko tomorrow after work and see who wins. Tight lines.

One video I have been for looking but havent found is, how to adjust a baitcaster reel for different weights and exactly how to cast it. Thank you for your consideration and keep up the great work! Hey Roland, I like your style. Keep them vids rolling along son. Im not a Bass fisherman but the techniques you talk about are transferable into other species, in particularly Australian Barramundi. Seen an old vid on you tube of you back in 76 in a comp so busy fishing you had a half a sandwich in your mouth while you were working the lure...lol...dedication.
The master sharing more wisdom. Thanks Roland. You keep making them and we'll keep watching. I have only started using artificial lures over the last year or so and your videos have definitely helped me increase my catch.
Saw a video where you were using a devil horse!! Man, that brought back memories!! I grew up fishing Clark's Hill (you may know it as Lake Thurman) in the early 70's on the Georgia side! I still have a few of them!! The absolute explosion when bass hit that thing was madness!! My grandfather, father, and uncle are all gone now!! I'm 62!! Thanks for bringing back the memories!! That was fun to watch, love the heartfelt interpretation you give, proud to have a few on his list,( my selection wasn’t always built on the best decisions, bought many lures because cheap or I thought I would catch fish).I never get tired of the Senco lure story, it would have been easy to never admit you maid a mistake, but you owned, well done ,looking forward to more of your experiences and opinions!

Great Video: I liked how you combined the old lures with newer models. It shows that good lures are still good no matter how long they have been around, that is something many young anglers often miss. That goes for good older Anglers too, if you know what I mean. Remember the five basic lure groups for Bass fishing; Top water, Spinnerbaits, Jigs, Soft plastics and Crankbaits. Learn to use these five lures well and you can catch fish everywhere. I read that somewhere a long time ago, I can’t remember exactly where. My list: top water lures Zara Spook, Pop-R. Spinnerbaits Rapala Terminator T-1 Titanium, Bass Jigs. Stanley jigs. Soft Plastics Mann’s paddle tail Jelly worms, Mister Twister Sassy Shad, Rapala count down minnow, Shad Raps, and Fat Rat shallow diver in the craw color. Now my question is what about the list of lures that did not make the cut? For example, Roland Martin’s Helicopter Lures. There’s always a few lures you’d like to forget. That could be a good story topic for another video that you can laugh about now.

Roland, I couldn't agree with you more about the senko. I admit, I usually fish saltwater. but if I'm looking at freshwater baits I would probably look at the senko and pass right by. culprit worms, then give me salty lizards. but after hearing (and watching) you catch bass on the senko I might give it a try. I know it's not a sales pitch. you wouldn't use it if the senko didn't work. Wow that crawdad color crankbait with the orange belly sure does bring back memories. and the tiger colors! Soft baits sure have changed since the days of the purple worms with the hot pink tails.
Glad I found your RUclips!! Grew up watching you on tv and watch and follow your son now. Also heard stories how my uncle Bill Bucher worked with you back in the day. Would love to talk with you or even fish with you sometime

What a great segment, along with your channel! Roland, these are wonderful, as many people say below, it's nice to have someone who explains in such detail the approaches, lures and tackle in terms we can understand and most importantly, use! Thanks and keep it coming, so much to learn and apply.
Thank you for the tips rolling I've been having some tough times up here on Shasta lake and whiskeytown lake and I think you just solved my problem thank you 👍💯
Love this video. I guess I need to set up different poles for each of these lures...or at least some of them. 😊 if I can get that many rods in my car,I may try to set them all up- just to see if it would make a difference in the area I fish . It would be like moving day for me with all those poles and tackle but it's kinda like that now just with the panfish setups I have. Those rods I'm afraid are too lite for these you're talking about... What do you think? } mean med/heavy, lite/med rods. Some ultra lite (I know that one would be too lite) .also I have the spinning reels. I have one older open face(was father n laws) but havnt perfected it yet.

It’s great to be able to benefit from the vast amount of experience and knowledge a guy like Mr. Martin has...

What a great segment, along with your channel! Roland, these are wonderful, as many people say below, it's nice to have someone who explains in such detail the approaches, lures and tackle in terms we can understand and most importantly, use!
Thanks and keep it coming, so much to learn and apply.
Those 30 and 40 year old lure designs still work great! Those are mostly what my tackle boxes are full of!

Thanks for all the info @Roland Martin Outdoors !! I am reading your book it is helping me catch up as a green angler.
