You sir are a badass! I’m 32 years old and I’ve been fishing since I was old enough to hold a rod and reel but I’ve never taken it serious. I’ve always been under the impression that catching fish was mostly based on luck and I would get skunked more times than not. It wasn’t until recently that I decided to become a serious bass angler and I bought a really expensive fishing kayak. I’ve been watching your videos and learning so much. This particular video lead me to finding a good point yesterday evening and I landed 16 bass within an hour. Hands down the most informative fishing videos on RUclips! Keep it up!!!
Ok, there is no way I can only watch this once. I simply do not have the memory to cram this much information into such a small brain and apply it with just one viewing of this video. Lol!!!!!! This video is the equvilant to going to your favorite restaurant, ordering the most delicious meal on the menu and getting a portion so huge that you have left overs for 3 days all for a modest price! Lol!! Jonny, you are on fire! These videos are so packed with great information and very well organized and thought out! Keep up the great work brother. Congrats on tipping 100k subscribers, you deserve it! The work you and Randy are doing is really top notch and I appreciate your willingness and ability to share and teach so well.
My only regret is I have but one like to give. Such a incredibly informative vid. Such a incredible job of phasing contour and real map pics of the same area. Props to you man on the outstanding job
Jonny, again you keep knocking them outta the park with your comprehensive videos. This is the REAL Bass University!!! I love your enthusiasm and passion on bass fishing and your explanations are far exceed any others I have ever seen. Thoroughly enjoy what you and Randy are doing!!!👍😃🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣
Wow, wish we had this when we were kids. We didn’t even have depth finders. Well informed YT video. Just wow, kids this content is years of on the water experience condensed into short 15 min vid. Well done Sir. 👍
Never cease to amaze! The amount of info you pack in but still keep it clear and concise boggles the mind. The quality of your graphics and examples are the best out there. Thanks as always Jonny. Great stuff.
I rarely understand how some others explain about this the contour maps stuff. But i really understand yours. Now it made it way easier for me to put it into use to find other species of fish other than bass. Thanks so much!👊🙏
I wish I would have known this 50 years ago, I would have caught some fish by now. If only I had a boat, I could really catch some fish. As always a great, super easy to understand video. I wish you the best and thank you for sharing your time and knowledge.
YOU ARE THE BEST AT EXPLAINING A MAP. I LEARN SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO MY HEAD IS ABOUT TO EXPLODE WITH KNOWLEDGE AND CURIOSITY AND EXCITEMENT. THANKS A LOT YOU THE MAN😍🤩.
I'm from Melbourne, Australia and although the waters mentioned are in the USA the method of using contour lines on maps is relevant and very informative. I'm looking forward to using this information in my next fishing outing. Thanks so much for sharing FishtheMoment
What a beast brother! It's amazing to see how far you came in your RUclips. Been learning and watching your vids when they were still low key. I knew your channel was going to blow up! Awesome work brother!!
Great video Jonny. Being a land surveyor, reading the topo maps are easy to read, but relating them to fishing terms helps a lot. Well thought out and put together. Thanks!
Thanks Dude! I know how to read contours but the jargon surrounding structure confused me as too what people were actually talking about. This cleared it up as well as gave me some ideas of new places to try on my lake. You really have some of the best instructional/informational videos out there that address the hidden secrets surrounding how to catch fish. Your structure and sonar videos have taught me a lot of the “hidden” secrets I was struggling to figure out
Thomas, I don't want to bother Randy with this, but, perhaps you know the answer. How do you identify the creek channels on the contour map? I could not see how Randy was identifying them.
This video is one of the best update explanation since I followed you for a year or so. It would also be informative to add the type of basic bait to use for each different area to the newbies. Keep up the awesome work and videos.
Great video, its very hard to find good quality detailed information like this amongst all the other channels. We have nothing anywhere near as good for free in Australia.
My 83 acre reservoir doesn’t have a creak. It’s a flooded coal mine from a spring somewhere. It’s 50 ft deep in places. Nice spotted bass, and I’m trying to master it. Lots of grass mats in deep water.
Doug, you have to use Google Earth Pro. There is an item you select that gives you a sliding bar to pick one of many years when the Google satellite photo was taken. Just slide around and look at various years until you see a low water image.
@@leakecoservices1749 yes, you have to do it on the computer but then you can mark them with waypoints and save the .KMZ file, email it to yourself, open it on your phone, and pin it to the google earth map on your phone, there is also a way to save them and put them directly on your graphs electronics but I haven’t tried this yet
Man that was helpful....! I have new hummingbird graphs, and a lake master chip, I was wondering how to get the Creek/river channel highlighted better, so I can see it. I’m having a hard time seeing the river channel oh my graph.
Just cause I am confused, how are you lowering the lake levels on google earth? I know how to adjust the time stamp and go back in years, but not how to simulate the lake level with the contours. Great video as always!
This is the video I have been waiting for !! Awsome job !! Only thing I want to learn on more is oxbow lakes or horseshoe lakes that have depth changes but where to concentrate on. Like my home lake false river in New roads louisiana . Im looking at it now wondering what the fish would use to relate too because there's very little drastic changes..but there are enough to make differences. Btw What do u use to highlight everything ? I'd like to do the same .
I love fishing offshore and study all the lakes I fish on my mapping and also Google earth, my question would be how are you "taking it down" the water level on Google earth?
Hey jonny don't you have a video about detecting the jig bite? I seen the one about the 3 mistakes of big fishing but I thought you had a video just about detecting the bite
Could you do or have you do a video on how to fish a flat bottom lake with a slope to a deep end? Think of the letter P turned 90 degrees this is a man made lake. Thanks
Can you do a video of this for leesville lake in ohip I have tried to figure it out with contor map and when I on the lake my sonar is saying I m wrong
Could you explain or show how you use google maps for showing lakes at normal pool vs 10’ low. I have tried to figure this out but not seeing where you can adjust pool level. Thank you
How do you overlay the Navionics map over google earth? I spend time finding structure with drawn down lakes, but have no idea what kind of depth I am looking at.
Don’t know if I’m doing something wrong, but it seems that all google earth images and their history are not created equal. You and Evers have clear images of when the lake was low and I can barely get a clear present day image of my lakes. Wonder if it’s size and how popular the lakes are. In any case, nice video.
I’ve found that to be the case too. I think it just varies lake by lake. Johnny and Edwin are probably choosing the best clearest examples for their videos as well.
Have they came out with an AI yet that can identify all these spots on a map? I feel like it would be pretty easy to program something to highlight spots similar to how you were.
I'm starting to come to the realization that ohio bass fishing is different than anywhere on the planet. No matter what you think is normal everywhere else. Doesn't apply to ohio water. You give me a break down on alum creek near Columbus ohio and tell me what you think lol
Here’s a video on how to take the lake level down on Google Earth:

I was just about to ask this question and saw the top comment!
Thank you.

@Fish the Moment Sorry brother. I’m a 60yr old schooler so I have no idea what that is. Did I miss something?

Most important video i've ever watched on youtube great job!
How do you not already have 1 million subscribers? This information is amazing.
Great video with good explanation of the different structures.
Re watching this to brush up! Thanks again!

Fantastic information for all anglers.
Thank You Johnny for sharing your Experience.
Great video, its very hard to find good quality detailed information like this amongst all the other channels. We have nothing anywhere near as good for free in Australia.
These videos help me so much thanks for making them, keep them coming 👍👍
This is an awesome video. Just started learning my depth finder.
What a great video. I new to fishing on a boat, and so far it has been a big mystery out there unless I'm fishing the shore.
My 83 acre reservoir doesn’t have a creak. It’s a flooded coal mine from a spring somewhere. It’s 50 ft deep in places. Nice spotted bass, and I’m trying to master it. Lots of grass mats in deep water.
That was an extremely well put together video my man! Your video on google earth and humminbird was VERY helpful. Thanks for the great content!

Nice work, thanks sir
amazing man , Just want to know how contour line could tell if there is a reef under ,we are talking about sea and lake also
When you refer to "shallower water", is there a depth range to which you are referring? Or is it just relative to the surrounding depths?
That's a lot of great info
Great breakdown. Thank you.
Very helpful vid
Man that was helpful....! I have new hummingbird graphs, and a lake master chip, I was wondering how to get the Creek/river channel highlighted better, so I can see it. I’m having a hard time seeing the river channel oh my graph.
Awesome video as always jonny!!
Great video thank you Jonny tight lines buddy.
any knowledge about the HydroWave? I'm thinking in deeper water it might work?????? not sure
Just cause I am confused, how are you lowering the lake levels on google earth? I know how to adjust the time stamp and go back in years, but not how to simulate the lake level with the contours. Great video as always!
