Just wow. No other fishing channel on here has ever broken it down like this. Thats some seriously amazing data and a lot of time and effort. I always learn something from here. Thank you!
I made similar calculations when I was about 10 years into tournament fishing. My interest was more concerned with number of fish per day and average size. I calculated the average size per fish and number of fish and average size per fish the top 10 over the season for the 2 Circuits I fished NY BASS Fed and Red Man (BFL). I found that most top guys caught limits every day but a few less consistent guys, the flippers, caught much bigger than average fish but fewer fish. Looking at the numbers I had an realized that I could only beat a couple guys by catching bigger fish since I was one of the guys catching limits almost every day. In 1990 I totally changed my approach and my average catch basically went from 5 for 10 to 4 for 12. I qualified for the BASS Masters Classic in 1991, math is good.
I cannot imagine the hours you put into this index, but I know it was a lot of work. What's great is how you so freely share it all. Thanks so much Jonny. I will definitely be watching this video several times.
I admire the heck out of your channel. You seem like you basically took your hobbies, used a free platform, and created a business and market for yourself. Incredibly impressive. The lures in this video aren’t really surprising, but it’s incredibly interesting to see the data behind it. Well done! I’m a huge fan of your channel.
Just like many areas of study, there are "opinions" and there is "data". Thanks for your thoughtful and objective approach to quantifying your fishing experience. I appreciated the seasonal approach and I think you did a great job controlling some of the variables with your methods as well as your explanations on how or why your data may vary from someone or somewhere else. Thanks!
If you use a spread sheet it's actually not much work at all- you just have to keep a journal and then key in your data- the spread sheet does the rest. Or- if you have a phone that can sink with your computer- you can download programs that will store your data and then export it to your spread sheet automatically- you do nothing but press a button when you catch one over 4 pounds or whatever your cut off is. The program records your location and all pertinent data like weather conditions, depth, water temp, etc. each time you push the button. Then it wirelessly transmits all that to the spread sheet and voila- it spits out your results. Technology is amazing nowadays.
Amazing content. Will certainly have these baits tied on along with my other confidence baits. Thank You for being a nerd; your research cannot be measured.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Years Johnny and all the FTM family! Thanks for all the great videos over the year. Wishing you continued success in 2021.
Thanks man! Super helpful! I don’t have a bass boat yet but I have a kayak. It’s hard to do a lot offshore fishing in a kayak so I do a lot of shallow fishing and typically stick within 100 yards of the bank. This will be extra helpful when I’m able to get a bass boat. Thanks again for nerding out and sharing. That’s how you stand out and create a gap between you and other fisherman!
Thanks for all the great content. One thing I would change about your Big Bass Index, instead of subtracting 14.5% - 10.4%, I'd divide 14.5/10.4. In statistics we'd call this an impact value, how much more impact than normal did using a football jig have. Think about this, if you used another bait only 2% of the time, but caught 6.1% of the big bass on it, under your method you'd have the same Big Bass Index, but they clearly don't show the same thing. The impact value for this bait would be off the charts at over 3! Thanks again for all the great stuff!
Wow Jonny! Tremendous amount of info al based on real life personal on the water data! Just incredible. Appreciate all that you pour into these for us. Going to have to watch it about 6 more times to soak in all the info. 😃👍🏼
Thanks so much. You definitely are a BASS nerd. But take it as a compliment. I just wish you were fishing near me on The Sacramento River Delta and sloughs because I feel lake fishing and tidal flowing river water is a completely different beast. All the best. Merry Christmas and thanks for the content!
I do the tackle warehouse . But I still have not figured how to get to the page . Yea I know , IM pretty dumb . Oh well . Still trying . You are the best . Thanks . You are changing my fishing
More great info Johnny! Merry Christmas! And I want to thank you and Randy for the hours of entertainment you both provide. Definitely helping me get through this ##%# pandemic! And making me a better fisherman too!
I just seen your video I love the mathematical viewpoint and love it . I have been fishing for 45 years and a business mathematics major. I seem to be doing everything right for the winter time but according to your mathematics I should be throwing a football jig a little more. in those situations I mainly use a ned jig. it has done well and I made a show using a jackall rhythm wave on a Ned Jig, in place of the football jig it is on RUclips. under the title Houston Parks fishing with Douglas Carr.
I have honestly learned more from 2 weeks watching your content, than the 25 years I've had a subscription to B.A.S.S. Thanks for all the info!! I hope to see you on the pro circuit soon. Also, what color chaterbait is your go to?
Many avid team sports fans can't handle analytics becoming part of the game..... I can't even imagine your average fishing crowd accepting results based on facts and numbers. But awesome stuff, I love it, keep it up!
I am a business mathematics major, I hope guys could keep up because those are great numbers when choosing the right Lures, the only thing I did find out was to throw my football jig a little more instead of my Ned Rig , but paired with some good swim baits the fishing is great For January. you can see my RUclips video Houston Parks fishing with Douglas for a review of the jackall swim bait
Great analysis. Thanks for repeating this and adding time spent fishing with each lure as a factor. I don't understand why the numbers change between slides for the same season. You may state the reason but I am not catching it.
The first set of numbers are for the top 5 baits I use in each season. Some are positive, some are negative. The second set of numbers are the baits with the highest positive numbers. Some bait stay the same, but some change
This is great information and very well presented. Unfortunately for me, I fish ponds from the bank with cold stained water and very few bass over 2-3 lbs. A lot of your research still translates though. Many thanks!!
Haven't even watched this yet but I know... This is gonna be good!! Update: I was wrong! It was awesome!! PS. if you were a bank fisherman I'd pay big bux for data like this! Bigger bux if you were near my area! (Ga.)
Great video I feel like I always learn something from your videos. I do have a question I purchased the off shore playbook and opened it on my iPad and can no longer view it can you help me?
Johnny do you think all your videos and info like this bait video will apply for blueback lakes in ga/sc for all the seasons? This is such great info and I worry it won’t apply to these unique fisheries. Thanks
Dude this is awesome. What are your numbers tho? Percents are cool but I imagine you’d have to catch a shitload of 4lb bass to get this kind of data. UNLESS you’ve been collecting this data for the 12 years you’ve been fishing...in which case, you’re a badass for doing so.
I applaud the use of data. Most guys don't catch enough to justify the time! However, I think the "index" is a misleading calculation. Subtracting the % usage doesn't account for usage bias. Instead, I think you should present a matrix of % 4lb+ fish vs. usage. That way we can see which lures catch the highest % while providing clear usage data. In your calculation, you could have 100% big fish score and only use the bait 1% and your index would be 24, while a more realistic 25% big fish score with something you use 25% of the time would earn an index of 0.
I was going to do something similar to that at first, but I found it was too hard to explain and visualize in a way most people would understand. This method was much easier to explain and was hopefully still valuable.
fantastic data! 7 losers voted thumbs down, i assume they are either jealous or just too stupid to realize how impressive this video is. well done sir!
This is the most detailed fishing video I've EVER watched! You're awesome for doing this. 5 years of info in a 20 minute video?! Wow. 🤯
This is insane amount of great information! I notice the AR hat! Woo pig! Are you fishing in AR?
@@chundle09 I'm in Bama
Thanks for doing all the data collection. WOW that had to have taken some serious time through out the year!

No one provides more info or works harder for the average angler than our guy Jonny

Bookmarked the Tackle Warehouse link. Superb content, Johnny, the first channel I share with fishing buddies.
This is phenomenal! An impressive amount of work for this, well done! Thanks for sharing!
Wow that was a tremendous amount of work to gather that data. Thanks for passing the info along.

Great data that was very well put together and explained. Keep up the great work in 2021!
Wow, this will require a re-watch!
Great job bro! Finally a scientific approach to fishing.
Just wanted to stop by and say thank you for all that you are doing.

I guess I need to learn how to use a jig after 25 years. LOL. My #1 is the good old original Swim Senko 5". Works so good here in FL.
