That is the problem with jiu-jitsu today, a majority of bjj/jj gyms focus less on the throws, takedowns, takedown defense and more on submissions, guards and guard passes. If they started on their asses most likely the bjj guy would win, problem there is how many fights start that way? Also in a real fight if someone came at me on the ground butt scooting towards me I would just walk away. I have a little insight, my gym I've been training at since I started Muay Thai has had UFC champions, adcc competitors, bkfc contenders. I have talked with many pros. This is what they have shared and I have seen personally. I've been training Muay Thai (13 years), BJJ (1.5 years), and Judo (4 years).

BJJ is just culturally appropriated Judo. That's why all the basic moves have Japanese names and origins. The reason why Judo faded out is because of their own initiative of toning it down for Olympics. And it still continues because just 2 decades ago Judo still had leg attacks like FS wrestling but they stupidly removed that too. That's like half of the Judo stand up game removed for a silly sporting event that's becoming obsolete anyways.

But what I consider the most impressive is that he can switch off the “illegal” techniques depending on the discipline he’s teaching.

This video aligns with my experience in Judo and BJJ. I'm 99% Judo in this equation. When I tried BJJ last year for a few months (i.e., not all that much!), I found that none of them were ready for anything that required standing up, regardless of their belt.
On the ground, they were phenomenal. But standing, even as a not-great Judo practitioner, it was pretty easy to throw them and get them in a position advantageous for me.
Which I found absolutely shocking. As long as I didn't go to the ground, I could take on anyone in the dojo. Of course, there are a lot of strategies to bring someone to the ground, but if I managed to avoid them (spoiler: I couldn't always avoid it) I could control the standing fight pretty easily as a BJJ white belt.
One guy in the BJJ dojo was a high-level Judo guy (I don't know where he was, he was a jerk and I never talked to him) and a blue belt in BJJ. He absolutely crushed everyone.
It always started from standing. He would throw everyone quite easily (and I would say, abusively, again, he seemed like a jerk) and then pin the BJJ person quickly.
Every practice has its Royce Gracies and I'm not saying every judoka will take out every Jiu-jitsu guy, but it seems, on paper, the Judo practitioner has some pretty significant real world advantages over Jiu-Jitsu.

I presume that you mean the competitional ju-jitsu. The "real" ju-jitsu precedes judo, or differently said, judo is a part of ju-jitsu (together with the punching part) - although if I remember the "stories", judo was invented as a separate type of fighting based on throws (and not strikes) and incorporated in the existing ju-jitsu arsenal of the time. But we're getting pedantic :) Simply said: ju-jitsu is (was?) a lot more complex/complete; judo as a separate "non-strike only" martial art appeared later. (And Aikido a lot later.) And all of them evolved (were simplified?) to today's competitional sports. Even today there are some parts in ju-jitsu that are not in judo, I don't mean striking but different arm or leg torsions (some of which may be found in aikido).

There are simply levels to this. It wasn't any surprise that a Judo Black Belt could easily do a throw on a BJJ Black Belt. While take downs and throws are certainly a part of BJJ my experiencing in observing training in BJJ schools is that 90+ % of training is inground fighting, What was really impressive is that the Judo Black belt was so fast in passing the black belts guard and submitting him.
If the match had started with both fighters seated it would probably ended the same way. BJJ is nothing more than Ne-Waza... The ground grappling side of Judo. The Judo Player was very adept at it.

Karate is real life self defense for warriors and is deadly. Head blows, throat punches and bone breaks are simply not appropriate for a sport and thats why Jiu Jitsu fighters have an advantage. All the Karate weapons are essentially taken out of their hands. Judo on the other hand is well defined to compete with Jiu Jitsu as a sport.

The guy in the blue Gi looks like a Hobbyist Black Belt & the guy in the white Gi looked like a Competition Black Belt. Idk the Judo guys full background but it's not uncommon for high level Judokas to add BJJ as a supplement to their takedown game. It makes sense, the attire and grips are similar. Just like Wrestlers preferring NoGi as it feels more natural to them.

    • @StanleyPinchak
      @StanleyPinchak 2 месяца назад +2

I would note that at the highest level both arts have very explosive black belts, but because of the time limitations that competition judo puts on newaza, even mid-level and hobbiest black belts tend to bring very explosive techniques. They also hone particular combinations off their favorite throws as seen here.
If they don't just yeet that arm the ref will stand them back up.
This leads to there being an intensity difference at the hobbiest and mid level of black belts that favors judo, particularly if the bjj player can not establish grips or guard.

The key difference is speed and temperment. BJJ guys almost always the more relaxed, slower grapplers. Judo competition is faster and you can't stall. This is the same pinciple that saw Ronda Rousey finishing (less) expereinced grapplers in seconds in MMA. Their mindset is to fight there way into a fight or graplle for position. Hers was to burst into the dominant position/finish as soon as possible. Each discipline has it's strengths and weaknesses.

I remember hearing during the Rondo Rousey era that Judo has submissions as well, and the arm bar specifically, is one of the more prevalent ones. The speed of a Judo match is generally faster than a BJJ match so the emphasis more often gets placed on throws and not submissions. But don't take my word for it; I'm a single-stripe BJJ white belt, lol.
