Something to think about on that first drain from the drain plug. After it stops draining from the drain plug react up with a small flat blade and push that blue fill tube out of the way and then most of the pan will drain out. As you said order a couple of the blue fill tube's, amazon has them.
if you were to monitor the temperature, what is the temperature you want the transmission pan/fluid at before considering it at temp for purpose of evaluating full fill?
Excellent, thank you. I have just done this job, and have been puzzled how, if they do, does the MB service garage change the Torque converter fluid? I looked all over, and the two coolant pipes to the front radiator are not removable, neither is there any drain plug accessible or visible on the torque converter. The MB dealer sold me 2.5 US gallons (10 litres) of fluid because he said the capacity is 9.5 litres so now I have 4.5 litres spare. The dealership quoted me £480 (I guess $500) to do this job, and the parts were £103. So this afternoon I saved myself £377. I never earned that much in that time ever in my life! What's more, no special MB tools are necessary. Good job.
Compared to my 2000 Ford E250 5.4L V8, the Germans made the Sprinter maintenance like a breeze compared to all the videos I had to watch for my Econoline. Taking off the drain pan for the automatic transmission and seeing the filter and the green tube reminds me of my 4R75W tranny pan. Except I have more bolts to remove unfortunately lol
I notice you didn't drain the torque converter. Is there any reason why or why not one would want to do that? It seems to me some do and some don't and I am just trying to understand the mindset for why or why not. Please advise, thanks!
I know you posted a year ago but I have just done this job. I was also wondering how you drain the torque converter. I have done lots of MB cars, old ones! with torque converters and could always just rotate the engine and undo the TC drain. You can't do that on a Sprinter. The MB parts department said it takes 9.5 litres (2.5 US gallons) but I could only drain out less than 5 litres from the sump pan. So following this video I can see that the correct level is when the new fluid stops flowing from the drain. Easy! So I have 5 litres of fluid left over.

If the transmission fluid was previously filled to the correct level (up to the top of the snorkel straw), why does a quart of fluid come out when you first remove the plug? In my case, it looks more than a quart came out with the vehicle flat (first service in 67,000 miles). Does transmission fluid expand when it gets old?

I got 2015 Mercedes sprinter with 2.1 diesel, how many quarts of transmission fluid it needs? Also my van has 81k miles, how often do I need to change transmission fluids on sprinter vans? And would you recommend doing transmission flush first?
The pump system listed is the Mityvac MV6410 Pneumatic Air Operated ATF Refill System. It's quite expensive and built for the professional. However, there are more economic versions readily available on Amazon.
@@nathansallee3662 You can also use a regular garden weed sprayer and make up your own method of connecting its pipe to the sump drain. These garden sprayers in the UK cost £12 in the DIY stores so you could just throw it away afterwards and not think it was a waste of money.
Hello. We recently purchased a 2015 Adventurous TS (2014 Mercedes Sprinter 3500 Diesel chassis with automatic transmission) with 30k miles on a trip from Oregon to So. Cal and noticed driving when driving usually 65 mph+, it downshifted by itself to 4th gear. Sometimes, momentarily shifting into Neutral and back to Drive, would fix the issue. But a few times it lost the ability to accelerate and we had to pull over and idle or shut off the engine for 10-15 minutes, presumably to cool down the transmission. Then it would run normally. Also, when driving 55mph lower, we didn't see the problem. Have you seen this before? If so, any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your input.
I do realize that the manual says 60k. However, this video was originally made for the technicians who worked for the company I was employed with at the time I filmed this. We serviced the Amazon delivery fleet. They had lots of Sprinters at the time. These vans were abused daily, thus the recommendation of servicing at 30k intervals.
Yes, to torque the bolts to their yield, that would be correct. Many people watching this video may not understand what torque to yield means, so I did the math and came up with 9 NM. Basically, follow your specs and then check the outcome torque with a torque wrench; what you'll come up will be pretty close to my results and I don't have to worry about getting nasty emails about broken bolts. Every 60 k miles, not 30

First Transmission oil change is at 40k and later at 60k. That's for diesel. ;)
