- This Plant Based Cabbage Soup recipe can be a big time saver when you have a busy week ahead. No kind of medication could get my legs to go down. They were very swollen and hurt so much. I fixed her cabbage soup for dinner. Last night I had to go pee a lot, but most of my swelling is gone. I believe Jesus told me to fix that soup. It was delicious. I didn't even miss the meat at all. I bought the salt free diced tomatoes, like she did! She has lots of wonderful recipes. Be sure and buy Mrs. Dash or Dash salt free or make your own with your spices you already have.
You would really enjoy Mc Dougall Starch Solution....you would do great, your legs will love you for it!!!
Wonderful idea on changing the spices. I do that with pasta sauce. I make huge batches to freeze while tomatoes are fresh in the summer but keep them fairly plain and then spice each container differently as I reheat it.
I did try this recipe and and found it to be very customizable. I didn't have celery and I added frozen sweet corn. It was great. FYI I purchased your cooking made easy cookbook and am enjoying that also. Thanks to you and your family for making these recipes so accessible.

I just made a cabbage/veggie/wild rice soup in my normal pot. Love it so much. I don't have an Instant Pot. I put some zucchini in mine. Very nutritious soup!

It is similar to the cabbage borscht thst I make but I add three mashed potatoes and three diced potatoes, one beet and maybe a half a cup of almond milk. I also added one diced jalapeno to it to give it some heat.

@@wholefoodplantbasedcookingshow the beet that I use, half is shreaded the other half is cubed. Also I sometimes like to throw in a couple of whole medium onions, they sweeten up after they are cooked, it is like the prize in the package .
I like the way you do your show and your recipes. This is not a criticism of this recipe, I am just wandering if somebody else here feels, too, that we seem to be obsessed with usage of tomatoes. It appears that hearty means lots of tomatoes, and I disagree. Tomatoes add sourness to it. When I read the title of the show I had a different idea what that soup might look like: no tomatoes involved, nothing sour in it. But, of course, that just me and my thoughts. Anyway, thank you very much for your excellent show. :)

Loved this recipe. I added some sweet potoates and cut out the bell peppers. No salt needed. Makes the house a little smelly but that's ok. Love all your recipes.

I make a similar recipe but I add chopped red potatoes and a can of drained kidney beans. You should try it!

Nice recipe, thank you. I am originally from Ukraine, and there similar non vegan recipes, and there people always add sour cream in bowl after plating. I think this could elevate flavors even more, if you want to add cashew or tofu sour cream. The same goes with your vegetable soup. It is just a suggestion.

Hand is recovering very slowly. =( We have nick-named it - my mannequin hand 😂😂😂😂😂 . My fingers just don't really bend very far yet. It is pretty humbling.
You can just throw a tea towel over the Instant Pot vent when releasing the steam early.

The recipe for the Cabbage Soup in the Instant Pot says to set the timer for 35 minutes but the video shows 15 minutes. The latter seems more reasonable but would appreciate confirmation.

Hi Jill, Did you veggies come out mushy at a 15 minute setting? I set mine to 5 minutes and it came out just right and my veggies weren't over cooked. Just wondering because the pressure is still cooking the veggies after the timer goes off. Please let ke know. Thank you

I didn't use any on this recipe but if you would like a flavor you could add italian spices like basil and oregano or tarragon =)
What are your thoughts on snacking? It seems that Dr. Fuhrman recommends against it but I've heard you mention snacking on popcorn in a few of your videos? Do you and your family still snack? My husband wants the answer to be "yes", lol.

Question Jill! You mention in this video that the IP Duo you are using is 8qrts. Did you mean to say 6 qrt? I followed your advise and bought the IP Duo. I am assuming it is 6qrt. Anyway inside the pot there is a line showing the maximum to load and wondering if a whole cabbage will go over my maximum if in fact you did mean to say 8 qrt. Thank you. Laird
I have the 8 qt size. If you have a 6 qt you might have to use less cabbage just so you don’t overflow it 👍
In your recipe you list 3 - 15 oz (1275g) cans chopped tomatoes, no salt. I can only find 14.5-ounce or 28-ounce cans of Organic Diced Tomatoes No Salt Added. How close does need to be? Which would you recommend? Also is that a white onion? Thanks
The 14.5 ounce cans are fine and yes it is a white onion but yellow also works 👍
HI Jill I only have 1 small red cabbage, to use for this recipe, if i make this recipe in the mealthypot pressure cooker how long would I cook it for? and do i need to decrease the ingredients?
Hi Christine, yes you can use diced tomatoes and I would add 1 cup of broth to them. Cook in your pressure cooker for 11 minutes
Just seeing you for first time. I did not hear what you used to sauté the onion in? If there was no oil, what keeps the veggies from burning while you talk before the water is introduced?
They are fine and even if they start sticking a little, once you add the water for sautéing they stop sticking. ❤️

Can this be frozen, or how long would it keep in the fridge. There is only me and I live in the uk , you can’t buy the instant pot mini here so I’m going to be getting the larger one
This does really well in the freezer and can be kept in the fridge for about 5 days. =)

How long should I cook in a slow cooker,don’t have instant pot
4 hours would be my guess or you can make it on the stovetop and cook it for about an hour.

You don't need one to make this soup. Just add it all to a large soup pan and cook on medium high for about an hour.=)

I think 15 minutes was way too long. The carrots and cabbage were completely mushy.
I would not recommend this cooking time.
