Installed a smartcan system with D-4's, Sound Bomb and Tail light on a '17 GSA. Found the install to be pretty straight forward and the Denali wiring harness was first rate - plug and play. The bracket for the horn made hanging it a breeze. The bracket for the D-4's is also perfect and strong. Very high quality hardware parts to assemble. Very happy with the finished product - I CAN BE seen and heard now.
IMHO, For the slight difference in the two I would save a bucket of cash and have the EZcan, oh, wait.... I’ve had the EZcan for a while now. 😏 Wiring this in is as simple as the Denali. Denali lights alone are a small fortune and cost more than my whole set up added together. (additional lights, 120db horn, additional brake lights, turn signals and position lights on the hand guards plus an extra lead for power into the top box or to power a rear facing camera). That said, if money was not a factor, I would have the Denali lights. 🍻
My thinking, too. I feel the Denali approach, while convenient, locks you in to their brand, and that's a cute business model that costs us, the end Users, quite a lot.
Thanks for this comparison. Question I have a brand new KTM 390 Adventure and want to hook up 1 set of mini fog lights 1 set of driving lights A better louder horn Unfortunately the Daneli doesn’t seem to have the CanSmart Controller for my KTM model listed, so what should i buy in your opinion to make the installation of what i want as easy and painless as possible?? Note, I do see that the Denali has both lights and a horn ( not yet seen video of how the horn sounds or if i actually can install that on my bike 🤷♂️) anyway i hope you have some suggestions for me that might do the trick...i really like the CanSmart Controller idea, but seen a few complaints for failures after about 1 year after installation...can you comment on this issue to clarify if that is a known issue with the CanSmart controller or have Daneli fixed that issue of “apparently” something to do with either poor soldering or an issue of the actual connections.... I hope you can help
Do either of the manufacturers make cans for smaller displacement bikes, like Duke 390 or Triumph Scrambler 400X or himalayan 450? Is it possible to strobe the aux lights using pass light switch only not the horn?
Hi, I just got the new GSA & also the Denali Cansmart. However i don,t need the horn; but decided that I needed an extra charging point for the rear for the pillion or tire pressure pump or as a camera battery charger whilst on the go. So picked up a charging port with two wires. Into this port goes the male of my camera charger etc. Was wondering how to go about this! Thanks
Hello dear team ! was checking back here. Since last time, everything got installed pretty easily ! configured two sets of different aux lights, and few more accessories. Actually using horn high amp for the heating gloves ;) and the rear brake circuit for two embedded dashcam recording every second of rid (security ones). I was wondering if the release date of the new version / firnware was already known :) ? Thanks again, enjoy the day ! Ride safe
I bought the rigid dss pro lights and a hexEZcan. They haven’t arrived yet. Will I have to change any wiring around, if so any ideas? BMW 1250 gs 2021.
Denali is definitely the best. On a bike like the bmw gs wiring into that could present huge problems. Denali take that worry away by making every so simple to install and connect. Hardest part is removing the body panels.
The CANsmart is compatible with the ADMORE light bar. Reach out to our Customer Service team if you have specific questions about installation: twistedthrottle.com/contact-us/
Hello gents ! and ladies as well ! Quich question : would it be a good idea to introduce a small settings like power on delay ? or is there already ? Given the fact that the Cansmart is used to enlight and make it all easier, the idea would be : detecting engine on or off, and adding power delay. So as long as the engine is not running, the lights and others equipments that are power consumming would stay off. I've a camera as well, and starting shutting down starting again (on, engine on) makes it crash. And of course, i'd rather keep my 50W x 4 light off when i start the bike ...Any thought ?
Can this can smart be compatible for a 2018 Ducati multistrada enduro ? If not which other solution do you have to use my pre equip auxiliary light switch ?
Does anyone know when Denali or KTM will make clear whether Denali lights can be successfully added to KTMs, particularly the 1290 SA and RS? I have managed to fit D7s to my 2017 1290 SA via a Cyclops CANBUS Raider but it is very temperamental and has to be frequently reset.
Help needed! For 2 years had Denali Smartcan on R1200RS with no issues. Now all accessories fail to turn on with ignition. HOWEVER when I connect laptop to check, they all turn on and are configurable. Within seconds of disconnecting the laptop, they all switch off and do not return after ignition switch cycles. Have checked connections, updated firmware, selectively unplugged accessories but no go. Ideas anyone please? Rich
I have emergency lights front and back with different programs for patterns and a mobile radio that i wanna transfer from my Kawa C 14. Is this a possibility?
Great info video, I looked at both units and I decided to go with the Denali cansmart unit. But after installing it on to my BMW GSA today I discovered that is unit lacks the setting to turn the front D4's aux lights off when the turn signal is active. Can you tell me if you know if this setting will be added maybe with a warmware up date anyday soon? thank you, Dave.
Hi, Dave. We don't anticipate adding that feature to the CANsmart. That's because the CANsmart uses the four circuits differently than does the ezCAN. We felt it was more beneficial to be able to control two sets of lights. In order to have the "aux lights off" feature with the turnsignals, we'd have to split each light onto a different circuit and then we'd lose the ability to control the second set as effectively.
TT, Thank you very much for your reply that very helpful, What I have done to help so the Denali D4's do not obscure my turn signals is...mounted the D4's on a Denali light bracket under the beck on the bmw1200gsa. Also, i have fitted an extra set of turn signal indicator lights on a set of Bark Busters hand guards, so with that my turn signals can be well seen. Thank you again from Dave ...uk.
Hello TT. I Have the denali CanSmart end it is very nice. But i just use it for two front lights because i dont want more them this (probably a horn in the future). My question is: do i need to buy a extra brake lights or this system works and comand the original brake light? Thank you.
You caaaannnn, but you shouldn't. Not only are HF lights copies of someone else's research and development, but their lights also don't perform very well. DENALI lights have been tested to insure optimum performance under extreme conditions. We have only tested the CANsmart and ezCAN to work with high-quality, 3-wire lights like DENALI. We can't attest to how cheap lights will perform. Also, dimming functions will only work on 3-wire lights. Typical HF lights won't dim using these controllers.
So with the Hex ezCan is it possible to set the four power outputs to accessory modes where they each receive 12v like you can with the Denali Cam smart?
Hey Dan, There is currently not a CanSmart available for the S100XR. We imagine this will not be available for the S1000 series until the next generation is released.
Is it possible to install the d4 + dr1 on the same smart can? I have already the dr, sound bomb and tail light. I still have i lead available on the smart can. I would like to add the dr1. Is it possible? Plug and play as well?
You could run two lights per CanSmart lead. So, if you have one lead left, you could put a pair of lights but we suggest only doubling up on the lower powered lights as the D4 or DR1 could trip the circuit. Another option would be to run two of the higher powered lights on one circuit but set the intensity lower, so it isn't using as much power.
@@twistedthrottle so in short, i can run my d4 on one lead and use the second lead for the dr1, yes? The dr1 will be set to sezo intensity during day and dipped. Only high beam will be 100% , while the d4s will have 10% for day and maybe 20% for night time. Does that sound ok? Also, please confirm if the dr1 are plug and play with the smart canbus.
They are plug and play. Like we said above, you can only double up the lower powered lights, unless you plan to run them at a lower intensity level. They will not work doubled up at 100%.
Hello, Is there any way to use the CanSmart with two wires LED ? I've been looking at both devices, and went for the CanSmart. Now that i have it, i can see the three wires for lights sets. I was wondering if i can pilot LED lights with two wires, without using the "switched 12V Circuit" option ? I guess the Red and Black are carrying power and the yellow is the "pilot" for dimming ? Any way to use the CanSmart with Dimmable two wires LED ? It's pretty explicit that Denali CanSmart will only work with Denali Lights sets and three wires dimmable LED. but still a bit disappointed here ;) Thanks for the info
Hi, Arno. You're right that the CANsmart is designed for three-wire dimming. The entire dimming signal is run down the yellow wire, with red providing power and black being the ground. As the system is currently configured, there's no way to control dimming without using the yellow wire. However, good news! There's a software update coming very soon that will allow the CANsmart to dim lights with just the two wires. In case you didn't know this, each time you connect the CANsmart through the software and your computer is connected to the internet, it'll check for new device firmware and prompt you to update. The ability to dim with just two wires is scheduled for the next update.
WoW that's an amazing update. I've already had one, last time i connected the CanSmart (yesterday actually). Fingers crossed then. I know that't not pretty the place to ask, and you don't have to. A question out of the blue btw. Let's say everything is connected, solid green, canbus catched. I've tested the different wires. Got 12V mostly between red and black. But no intensity, meaning i'm not able to power on anything, even not a simple led bulb or dashcam. Would there be any reason for that ? I 've tested with an "external battery" (still 12v motorbike). But no current was available at the end. The bike was on, the engine not running. Maybe that's the reason why. But even when starting engine, could not light anything on the lights sets nor on the 2 others channels in switched 12V circuit mode. Sorry to ask and bother. Last question : is there any page on the website where updates are announced ? ;) Thanks a lot for your time ! Amazing support
Hi again, Arno. It's possible the circuits you're trying to use are turned off through the switches on the BMW. (By default they should be on unless you somehow changed them in your own troubleshooting.) To check that the device is working properly, connect the CANsmart to your computer and run the software. As a test, turn the circuit you're trying to use to the Simple Switched mode. This will put power to that circuit any time the bike is on. If you still don't have power at the accessory, it's probably best to give us a call at 855/255-5550 and we can walk you through some other diagnostics.
Thanks a million ! You rock. All good now. Issue : dead aux. battery, showing 12.3V, no capacity. Clearly stated on the software. Advice to all "newbie" like me : configure the CanSmart ON the bike, computer next to it. So you can check any error. Hope the release of the new firmware will happen soon. I'm delivering software as well, and users are always hurry to get new versions. I know it's hard to commit for a date :) A suggestion : on the website, an "idea" box so that "registered" users could let ideas / improvements for future releases and discuss it. Might be useful. Again, thanks a million for your support !!!!! Really greatly appreciated. Cheers !

Is the Denali system set up for BMW only?
Hi, Carl. Currently the CANsmart is for BMWs only, though we're working hard on expanding our application list.
2 years and haven’t seen an expansion 😔
Will it work on a 2015 indian Roadnaster
The CanSmart is currently only available for select BMW's.
I was looking for a comparison, not a sales pitch for one over the other...
Get the Hex Ezcan. The others copied these guys.
Hex manufactures both products. The CANsmart has slightly different features over the ezCAN.
